A word from The Montgomery Inn - Original
When we say our ribs are famous, we mean it. Enjoyed by actors, athletes, and every U.S. President since Gerald Ford, they’re hand-spiced and slow-roasted daily, then finished off on our custom broiler. But Matula’s secret recipe sauce is the real star, made with only the finest California tomatoes and a super-secret blend of all-natural spices. And don’t worry about wearing a bib. It’s a good look.

Our world-famous ribs are definitely a hard act to follow. That’s why we also offer equally out-of-this-world entrées and combos, signature appetizers, soups and salads, and seriously decadent desserts. And if you have little ones who refuse to eat anything that’s not a nugget, children’s menus are available as well.

Whether it’s lunch, dinner, or carryout, there’s always something delicious you’ll want to try. But if you always decide to go with the ribs, we’re fine with that too.

Diner Reviews
  • "Had a wonderful time meeting up with old friends who are from the area. Food, service and atmosphere was excellent!"

  • "Montgomery Inn has always been one of my favorite restaurants. I usually picked it as my birthday dinner location each year since grade school. However, I am concerned about the quality of the food the last few times I have been there. Don't get me wrong, the food is good, but I feel like it's not as good as in the past. The last few times I have been to Montgomery Inn the ribs have been rather dry and the fries have not been as hot and fresh as they should be. Is it possible that I happened to be there on two "off nights" for the kitchen? Sure. But for the prices I want my food to be excellent, not good. I'm sure I'll go back again, but I won't be rushing back and I'll have to hope that my next visit will not be another average experience."

  • "Since this place is raved about, I had high expectations. The ribs were very tender. Mine were barely warm when I received them, however. I ordered the Saratoga Chips as an appetizer and they were slightly burnt. My 5-yr-old son didn't even like them. We had good service. I would go again, but I'd not order the chips and hope for better luck with the temp of the ribs."

  • "Great service and great food. This is the perfect place to bring a family or group to celebrate a special occasion. Every diner is a special guest at Montgomery Inn."

  • "The food was all good and the service was perfectly adequate. However, for the prices they charge and the reputation of the restaurant I was rather disappointed. I'm positive I could get better ribs elsewhere in the city. The waitress spent as little time on us as possible just because we apparently didn't spend enough money to be worth her time. So while the overall experience was fine and it's hard to find anything that doesn't feel nitpicky to complain about, it did not live up to expectations."

  • "I've taken my international friends from all over the globe to the Montgomery Inn, both Original and Boathouse, and have never been disappointed. The food is consistently superb and the overall dining experience excellent. Highly recommended!!!!!"

  • "Montgomery Inn is a favorite when visiting Cincy and our recent experience did not disappoint. The service from everyone we met from the Hostess who greeted us, to our Server who was wonderful, to the bus staff that cleared the tables was professional, friendly, and welcoming. They provided the kind of service you always hope to receive. We started with crostini as a delicious appetizer. For our main course, I had a full slab of ribs with a baked sweet potato. The ribs were perfect. Slightly charred and fall of the bone tender with just the right amount of sauce. The sweet potato was tender & tasty. My son had a 14oz sirloin with a baked potato. The steak was lean and tender and cooked as ordered. A great night & dinner."

  • "Celebrated a birthday there on Friday night and it was unexpectedly low key. Good weather and local fish fry dinners were said to be the reason. Whatever, it was nice not to be rushed as is too often the case there. The food was exceptional -- try the Cantonese shrimp with its plum/mustard sauce, a great accompaniment to the ribs. And Graeter's ice cream for dessert provided the perfect finish!"

  • "The atmosphere was great! There were families of five or more and romantic areas for couples. The walls were covered with sports memorabilia and notable autographs of Presidents and Movie Stars. There was a separate area for sports viewing. The manager and server did an excellent job making sure my party was completely satisfied with the food and service. Great time and I would definitely return the next time I'm in the area."

  • "The food and service were good as always. Our server was a little slow to refill drinks and it was not busy. No other ribs taste as good!"

  • "If you love a tomato based BBQ sauce with no hint of smoke or wood, then this joint is for you. The food is always consistent from one visit to another - if you like the flavor the first time, you'll like it on every visit thereafter. The Saratoga chips are good with the BBQ sauce. The onion straws are another good option. Absolutely love the shrimp and the spicy plum sauce. Decent selection of beers. The interior of this original location is dark and some areas are clearly dated, but you're going for the food, right?"

  • "Service was terrible, had to ask multiple times for drinks in addition to waiting 15 minutes to be waited on once we were seated.."

  • "The server was excellent in years past servers were not friendly and rushed you through your meal. Not anymore and we love that"

  • "Very average and overrated. I ordered a greek salad with salmon and it was basically ice berg lettuce. Vegetables overcooked."

  • "I made reservations and received a confirmation. I arrived at the Montgomery Inn and went up to the male and female hosts behind the desk. The male host greeted me and I told him that I had a 6:30 pm reservation for 3. As he began to look for the reservation I moved to the side with my two children to wait. Unfortunately we continued to wait for 10 - 15 minutes. Finally, with my children complaining that they were very hungry, I asked the host if it would be much longer, since our reservation was at 6:30 and it was now going on 6:45. The host said that he never found my reservation, but that we could be seated now. How much longer would we have been ignored before something was done?"

  • "This is not an exaggeration out if anger, I am truly embarrassed that my girlfriend had to endure this dinner. We made reservations for Friday on Wednesday afternoon, that went well, cudos for the ease of their website. Friday came, we arrived early to the Montgomery location and valed the car. The hostesses seemed a little lost but that is pretty typical for a busy restaurant. We sat at the bar and had a drink. When we were sat, we ended up in a ridiculously small booth in the bar area. Is this why you make reservations?? To be sat in a bar area? From there it just got worse, waiter could not remember the lime every time we ordered, salad was pathetic and did not come w meal. Entrees took over 40 minutes to arrive and were to dry to eat."

  • "I had been here before but it had been many years ago. My husband had never been to Montgomery Inn before and I wanted to take him somewhere special for our night out. It was great. We got seated right away thanks to our reservation and the food and service were amazing. We both had leftovers and there was plenty to eat. The menu is reasonably priced and the atmosphere is nice. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to others and have already done so."

  • "While many places claim to have outstanding ribs, they all pale in comparison to the Montgomery Inn's ribs. Even Bob Hope used to have them shipped to him out in California they are so good! Using the old cliche, these ribs "melt in your mouth"; no toughness, no gristle; just all good, tender meat! Try it! I've been eating at the Montgomery Inn for almost 50 years; from back when the old Rib King himself was still alive; Ted Gregory was a supreme restauranteur - he always walked around and greeted customers and made you feel at home. I miss him....."

  • "Some of the best ribs that I have found anywhere. The food is always good. Presentation is good and service is usually pretty good. Only drawback can be the wait on busy nights. This restaurant is very popular in the area."

  • "It was all you can eat ribs for $24.99. This included Saratoga chips too. Thanks to you we had reservations and we were sitting immediately. The service was awesome and we didn't wait for more ribs to be brought to the table. It was a little noisy but we were seated in the bar area."

  • "The food was great as always. It was all you can eat weekend so it was busy but not too bad. We went at 630 and only had about a 10 minute wait with a party of 11. Service was slow after our initial order. It took forever to get our check."

  • "I've been to this location 3 times and is, in my opinion, the best one. The ribs are always very succulent and moist, and we've never had an issue with service. This is one of my girlfriend and my favorite date spots."
    Dined on 2/23/2014
  • "If you make a open table reservation it is not a reservation but rather a place in line depending on the level of business. They are very pleasant and work hard to get you seated. But open table is just a place in line here which usually means 30 minutes. But for that it would have been 5 star"

  • "It's been awhile since we've been back, but food is still as delicious as ever. With all the new restaurants opening around town, this place is still worth a visit, although definitely dated. At least they should have added more draft beers to the menu??? Nevertheless, this visit was extra special as there were few diners for Valentines Day as many people cancelled reservations due to the snow, and it was an unusually calm and quiet atmosphere for a change. Thumbs up for the 3 for $30 special menu as well!"

  • "It wasn't bad, but for the price, it wasn't great. The pulled pork nachos were fabulous and the ribs (though overpriced) were terrific. Brisket was tough and not edible! We prefer Smoq, if I want ribs and Rib City or Walts for pulled pork sandwiches, pulled chicken and brisket. Our first and last trip to Montgomery Inn. I know it's a Cincy favorite, but there are just better priced and better tasting places out there."

  • "We decided to give the Original Montgomery Inn a try after only eating at the Boathouse. We loved the ambiance and really appreciated it more than the Boathouse for the quiet and romantic atmosphere. Superb service and taste and love the alcove dining experiences. The new Pulled Pork Nachos are a must! Yum : ) The Original Montgomery Inn is now our favorite!"

  • "Don't ask for consideration on a seating choice on your open table request....they choose to ignore it. We specificall asked to be seated in the more spacious bar area at 6pm.....and it was fairly open...yet we were directed to a small dining room in the rear of the restaurant. It was crowded and the waitress rushed us throughout the meal."

  • "We came to this restaurant to celebrate a family members birthday and we were extremely pleased. We were in a small room which made it easy to talk to our entire group. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. The service was great! We will definitely return."

  • "Made reservations for two and got the worst table by the noisy kitchen. After we waited for 15 minutes, why even make a reservation then? My boyfriend talked the restaurant up because I had never been. Now I never want to go back. Even his good was ranked sub par from his usual."

  • "We have been to the Inn many times, as it is generally one of our favorite restaurants for special Occasions. It was our 16th wedding anniversary on the night we chose. Our children came with us for dinner. Three of the five of us had our food for ten minutes before the last two were brought out. The ribs looked like they had been sitting in the window for a while and our side dishes were cold. We have NEVER had this experience at your restraunts before. It was disappointing. For the money we paid for 5 of us it will be some time before we are back."
