A word from The Monarch

Elevated American fare and Midwestern hospitality collide at The Monarch, a lauded restaurant-bar located in the trendy Bucktown / Wicker Park neighborhood. While its name rightfully conjures up its sophisticated setting, The Monarch’s unpretentious dining experience celebrates American achievements with a royal twist. The casual, clever fare and hand-crafted cocktail menu pay tribute to the famous—and infamous—titans of American history.
Constructed of exposed brick walls, industrial oak floors, and 25-foot ceilings, The Monarch also features subtle heraldic symbols hidden in the walls, softened by the light of silver candelabras. The bar beckons upon entering, while an idyllic, newly renovated outdoor patio sits just beyond the dining space. Combined, these elements unite patrons of all ranks.
Ascend the throne for a regally relaxing dinner, and stick around for late-night revelry, as The Monarch transforms into a royally refined party well into the evening.

The food was outstanding and the $10 bottomless mimosas was a great deal. Unfortunately, they were understaffed for brunch and it was difficult to get a server to come to our table to refill our coffees or my mimosa. If they fix this issue, this place would be a gem for brunch.

We had a Groupon for brunch and our kids were going back to school, so we decided to try the Monarch on a Saturday. Typically, we like to dress up a bit for a brunch, so needless to say, we were a bit overdressed. Clearly a casual place (which is why I rated the ambience lower). We had the cornbread grits and sweet spiced pretzel to start. They did not disappoint. We had the chilaquiles, fried green tomato sandwich, french toast and scrambled egg sandwich. All were great and there wasn't a morsel left on a plate. The have a nice outdoor area, but not really suitable for big groups. We'll be back!

We go to Monarch quite regularly for brunch. The bottomless mimosas were what drew us in after stopping in for a night cap and seeing that special. It is now our go to for brunch. The French toast is delicious. The fried green tomato sandwich tastes like it was made in the deep south! LOVE! The Duck Confit Chiluaquiles is my tried and true dish. You can't go wrong for a casual brunch.

This is a bar, not a restaurant, so if you are looking for a quiet meal, you may want to go somewhere else or, if weather permits, secure yourself a seat outside. The food is more upscale than bar food. However, it was on the heavier side. They served breakfast items with french fries vs. a hash brown of some sort. Change is welcome, but there isn't anything unique about the french fries. I don't know about you, but when I invest in fattening food, I like it to be special. I also like to have healthier options, for those weekend mornings when I am not hungover. My recommendation would be to add some healthier options to the brunch menu and change up the fries- truffle fries perhaps.

We came in with a big group on very short notice, for a pretty late reservation (towards the end of the night / kitchen closure). The restaurant was able to accommodate us quite quickly and conveniently. When we arrived the restaurant (more a bar and restaurant) and bar area inside was mostly empty, but we were able to get outdoor seating in the patio at the back which was perfect for a large group and warm night. The food came quite quickly, and the service was great, but a few of us had some issues with excessive seasoning in the food. Particularly the brussel sprouts and the steak (the brussel sprouts in particular). One of the orders of the brussel sprouts we sent back and they took it off the bill without hesitation.

Okay so we had a picky eater with us and while she could have found something, the menu options were slim. The drinks were okay, not the best but good. The prices were not bad and some of the appetizers were good. Nice little patio out back. Place was nice. Staff was helpful. May go back some day.

Have been here for Brunch and a couple dinners. Food is good, not outstanding, except for the soup which is amazing! However, service is consistently not very good and the place is usually pretty loud. All in all it is not a great or terrible place, and just doesn't offer much to keep me coming back.

Man, what a letdown. We were peckish so went for the truffle fries as an appetizer. The fact they charge $6 for fries that are exactly the same as McDonalds fries, in a serving on par with McDs medium serve, was disappointing. We both ordered the pork breakfast sandwich. It became clear as we ate, that the sausage pattie and breaded pork pieces are pre-frozen. The egg was undercooked & I had to scrape clear egg-white away. The mimosas were pleasant and the staff were friendly and helpful. It was ok, but definitely not worth the Groupon. Won't be eating here again. Make some food to a quality that is commensurate with the prices you charge.

This place was very weird, first me and my friend walked in and the host wasn't that nice he saw us and didn't even say welcome and he suppose to be the first face at the rest. The guy passed by me and the only he said was excuse me. Later he finally decided to talk and tell me right away if i had reservation not even a hi first. because we got there at 1:10 and reservations was at 1:30 he told us to wait in the bar even though we saw a open. After 2 drinks they finally decided to give us the table witch was the same that was open all them time. VERY disappointing probably wont go ever there.

I went there with a group of friends for a "groupon" brunch and it was great! The owner was there and he was very personable and nice. Our server Austin was very attentive, personable and knowledgable about the menu. I had the chilequiles which were great, my husband had the french toast which he loved and our friends had the pork sandwich and egg sandwich. Definitely recommend going there.

Stopped in for brunch last minute on a Sunday afternoon. The place has a great vibe, like I definitely want to come back for happy hour. The food is good, dare I say great? Actually no. It could be great, it's creative etc but I thought my particular dish lacked some flavor (I got the biscuits and gravy). But I'd give them another try on the food for sure. Where they really win me over? The SERVICE! Saying it was outstanding would be an understatement. They were friendly and attentive without being annoying. Drinks were never empty and they entertained every silly menu question we had a smile. Host even helped my friend with her crutches without being asked. Would I dare to say best service in the city? I just might.

We found that the food was overpriced for the quality. Everything was a bit underwhelming. The fries were too salty and the pork shoulder had tons of gooey fat. The cocktails were actually the greatest part of our experience. We liked the ones with champagne and the tequila one. The service was really great which helped our experience a lot.

We came here for a birthday dinner. We had a fairly large group, but they assured us they would be able to accomodate us. We asked how we should separate checks, and our server said she would do it all. She then spilled all over her menu and lost our seat listings. We wrote out which items went on each check, but they they double charged us for multiple items AND added additional items after we approved the bill and gave them out cards. The process of paying took 30 mins and we got nothing for it. The food is yummy, if a little pricey. But they brought things out at different times and completely forgot one couples entree. This place would be good for a very small group and if you have a lot of time. It's pretty and the food is good.

For our first visit, management gave us a taste of champagne - nice start, Monarch! Food was well executed and delicious. Furniture was not very comfortable and there was cold air blowing. Loved the atmosphere and music videos; very narrow space so feels a bit jammed in. My drink was weak and big; my friend's drink was strong and small. Would stick to beer next time (or more of that champagne!)

The overall experience was great. Our waitress checked on us constantly. That felt good. One thing that my wife and I noticed was the chef/owner, not sure which one, was going around saying hi to folks himself. I'm not sure if it was because there were larger parties there or what but he didn't come by us at all during the night. It would've been nice. This could make feel customers feel included regardless of your party's size.

I went to Monarch with a friend and was surprised at the bar feel of the place. I was expecting more of a restaurant with a good bar. In terms of food my friend LOVED it and I was more middle of the road about the food. My friend could have ate the brussel sprout salad forever, it was quite yummy. She also loved the burger, which I thought was good. She's from the south and comfort food, American style is her food passion. We both thought the music was loud and it has a busy vibe (in keeping with the bar theme) which was not our mood for the evening. Our waitress was the best thing of the night. She was attentive, friendly, helpful and efficient.
