The Modern - Dining RoomGreat monday lunchWonderful meal. I took the rabbit terrine which was really fresh and tasty and then the squab with foie gras which was great! The dessert was a nice sorbet and my friends took the amazing caramel sorbet.
The service was impeccable and the cost relatively low for such a fancy restaurant!5/20/2013 12:00:00 AM"Once-in-a-lifetime"experience1)I was impressed by the service.I felt we were treated like "royal" .That's the kind of service you are willing ( not being "forced") to leave a generous tip;
2)Delicate food. Each course was beautiful and elegant like an art piece.Take you time to admire them.
3)Our seat is by the window-we had a good view of the sculpture garden .In a raining day it was peaceful and refreshing.
I strongly recommend it to people who are looking for a unique "food " experience, something beautiful, elegant and comfortable.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent all the wayI have had the best duck in town and was amazed by the quality Of the service5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellenteAn experience to be lived!!! Excellent food and ambience ... Service superb.,5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMNot to be missed! We heard great things about the Modern at the MOMA and thankfully, every rumor is true - this place is amazing. Have a drink first In the vibrant bar consisting of young professionals and perhaps a few tourists. The bartenders are very accommodating .
The dining experience is incredible starting with the pleasant and knowledgable wait staff and sommelier . The Chef and his staff create amazingly presented and delicious food. The pastry chef desserts are not only delicious but also works of art befitting of the MOMA. All this in a contemporary style atmosphere overlooking the Abby A. Rockefeller Sculpture Garden. What's not to like?!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMMemorable eveningThe total experience was awesome!
Thank you,
Penny Krell5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMVery pleasant lunch! It's not as cozy as Gramercy Tavern but it was a very pleasant place to have a business lunch. Portions are small but the quality is what you would expect from a Danny Meyer restaurant. It's never just about the food at his restaurants. I made the booking but someone else paid. :-)5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMMuch Ado about something!!From the moment we walked in the 3 of us knew this was more than just lunch. Attention to detail and service was immediately apparent from the moment we ordered drinks (a peach martini? I'll see what the bartender can do...and he did!) 2 first tastings on a spoon...explained by the waitress and down they went. Fixed price menu included 2 choices and dessert...nothing remained on any plate (which were beautifully designed, by the way.) Would return in a MOMAnt!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely experience all-aroundWe were seated promptly at a table adjoining the sculpture garden, which added to a nice ambiance. We ordered the Chef's tasting menu with wine pairing. The food was beautifully prepared, and the flavors were elegant and clean. The wine accompaniments were excellent - the wine steward was quite knowledgeable, and the selections complemented the dishes very well. The only drawbacks were that: 1) we didn't have any beverages to accompany the crudites, as we weren't served the first wine until the first course of the tasting menu (had we known that, we would have ordered an aperitif) and 2) the dishes could have been bolder, as the desserts brought the flavor punch that the main entrees lacked. The John Dory was the best dish of the night.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother Meyer's Gem?Thoroughly enjoyed our 4 course prix fixe menu. From amuse bouche to dessert, everything was flavorful and well prepared.
Service was somewhat lackluster. Our server presumptuously recommended that my dining guest change his selections to provide more diversity in texture to his multi-course menu selections. It rubbed us both in the wrong way and colored our opinion of his service although the service standards were good. Support staff was excellent.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMIT WAS FANTASTIC!We celebrated Pratt Graduation last week. We had great food. We had great service. We had great conversation about the great food and great service. We spent $1,000..and thought it was worth it (can you believe and not on an expense account)! Our waiter (probably has a more sophisticated title than "waiter") and his team, were great. They seemed to keep their seriousness until the end of the meal and then we would have enjoyed asking him to sit down and enjoy a drink with us. Loved the spoon sized "teasers" at the beginning of the meal. Loved the chocolate "cart" at the end!5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMFavorite placeWhen we come to NYC from DC, this is our favorite place for lunch. It is always outstanding -- and at an affordable and excellent price!! By the way, the "surprises" that accompany the meal (starter nibbles, chocolate treats, etc.) make it all the more special.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved itWent for Mother's Day Brunch. Everything was delicious. A little bit too much food - too many little extras. Crazy to be complaining about too much. Not a complaint - it was all wonderful. The little extras kept coming. But the menu items were outstanding. Arctic char was wonderful - the salad - the sardines (altho I didn't get to taste them - my husband inhaled them before we could grab a taste). The steak - the salmon - the quail. THE DESSERTS. The little extra ice cream cone and candies. And the cookies we took home. Enough. We will be back.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA Food VacationThe Modern never disappoints me. This time I took my whole family and my Mother said it was like nothing she ever experienced in her life. The service, the food, the price. Yes, it is expensive ( my sister said she could have gone to Mexico with what the bill was) but for that special occasion, totally worth every penny in my opinion.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFood nicely prepared and serviceFood nicely prepared and service was good. I wish I would have had more time between lunch and dinner so that I was able to enjoy my experience at the Modern more. Great place nevertheless.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent restaurantThe food and its presentation were excellent. Additionally, the service and the ambiance were great. We thoroughly enjoyed The Modern and would readily return.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMFood as entertainment......Prx fixe menu with choices for all four courses and charmingly lovely additions thrown in for entertainment. You can go to a Broadway show, or eat here - or do both at just about twice the cost for decent seats.
The staff is attentive and the pacing perfect. I hope the chef likes the word "wow". Dishes are innovative and presentation somewhat surprising.
For example: seasoned popcorn, with appetizer spoons (raspberry, dark chocolate and cheese on one), mini sourdough baguettes with fresh butter: traditional and goat. The style of the salads, soups and entries was some innocent islands of cheese suoffle or multi-grain concoction or highlighted main ingredient in hand poured soup or sauce. Lovely, tasty, wow-worthy flourishes.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect food!Meal was great. I had the rabbit and the cot, both perfectly cooked (the rabbit juice was outstanding).
Excellent value for money.
We enjoyed a very nice lunch.
Staff were quietly attentive and very professional. My husband started with tuna, scallops, salmon 3 ways and I had the Royale mushrooms. Excellent and beautifully presented.
We both had the maple brined Berkshire porkchop. A tad sweet for us but the wine was a great offset.
My dessert was the Black Currant Vacherin - delicious! My husband opted for the cheese selection and was gratified to find the staff so knowledgeable. His port was the perfect accompaniment!
All in all, a wonderful afternoon.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect lunchIt was a great time visiting MoMa and than having lunch at The Modern. Expensive but worth every penny!5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMfine diningunforgettable experience and perfect to celebrate 20 years of marriage. charming location on the museum grounds.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMEvery plate was amazingEspecially loved the foie gras dishes which had generous portions as well as the amazing selection on the dessert cart.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat NY Dining ExperienceWe went to 1,2&3 star restaurants while on this trip in NY. The Modern (1*) was THE best. The food was interestingly presented and inventive without being over the top. Service was great, My wife & I had a great time.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Modern maintains its excellenceWe have been to the Modern numerous times and it has become our favorite restaurant. Everything was oustanding.
Nancy Schumann, Service Director, made us feel at home, graciously wishing us Happy Anniversary. Our garcon was superb.
The entire wait staff was an exercise in graceful precision. The space was beautiful. And as always the food amazed.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely WonderfulThis is the second time we have eaten here. The first time we both felt it was the best restaurant we had eaten in. This time our experience was the same. An absolutely wonderful restaurant in terms of the service, the ambiance, and the food, which is excellent, unique, and delicious. We are returning to NYC in June to meet up with friends from the UK and have already promised them a dinner at The Modern. We can hardly wait.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMwonderful diningAmong the most attentive service I've ever had, and that's saying a lot. Inventive dishes, great menu, superb service. Relaxing view of the MOMA sculpture garden.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful menu. AbsolutelyWonderful menu. Absolutely delicious and creative preparations. Unusual, but always successful combinations. Attentive staff. I would recommend this restaurant without any hesitation whatsoever. Wines also very lovely.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWish I'd gone sooner!I've been meaning to dine at The Modern for years. It will now be my go-to restaurant for any special occasion. We were seated at a sweet two top along the window in the dining room. Service was attentive but never pushy. The meal, wine and extras were impeccable. I hope to be back soon.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMBest everThe entire experience was incredible. How many times can you have a fabulous meal overlooking Picasso's and Miros? The restaurant overlooks the outdoor garden of MOMA so it is a constant show of people looking at the amazing Sculptires. The food was excellent as was the service. I'd highly recommend this restaurant. Now The Modern is added to my personal best experience along with Marea and Le Bernadin.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMMany small platesIt is standard in many high end restaurants in NYC to serve extra plates, like amuse-bouche, chocolates or petit fours before or after your ordered meal. The modern was very generous in that sense. I don't even remember how many extra plates we got other than what we ordered and at the end, my friend and I were too full and couldn't even eat the last served item (it was something like smal ice cream cone with citrusy spicy gelato?). Then after paying, they gave us a box of small cakes. We were pleasantly surprised by the amount of food/number of plates they serve. We both left the restaurants full and happy.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMFood of the best quality,Food of the best quality, supremely well prepared and presented. Elegant in its simplicity, but still innovative and creative. Beautiful setting, energetic and popular and still quiet enough to be able to converse with your companions.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThe experience in the diningThe experience in the dining room was exceptional. The pre fix menu was superb as was the service.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was one of the best mealsThis was one of the best meals we have ever had. Just an overall amazing restaurant that should be put up there with the best in the city4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall experience was hurtOverall experience was hurt a bit by a laborous booking and confirmation process. First of all my Open Table booking was canceled twice without explanation - the third one stuck. Then I received a call a week ahead to reming me of my booking, then missed the one two days prior to confirm our booking. After calling back, our reservation had been already canceled and had to postpone it later to the same day. Then the next day, one day prior, another call came in, again for confirming the already once canceled reservation time. At this call they discovered I had now double booking. The food was great and the service very professional, although a bit stiff. Nice touch acknowledging our wedding anniversary though!4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThe service, as always, wasThe service, as always, was outstanding. The waitstaff is amazing.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThis has to be one of my favoriteThis has to be one of my favorite dining experiences in NYC, as everything was spot on. We had a terrific booth in a beautiful room which overlooked the museum sculpture garden. You can choose a $98 4 course prix fixe or tasting menu, and we went with the prix fixe. After all the starters we were given, and the extra 2 desserts it was starting to be an incredible bargain! Tiny portions across many plates with wonderful, creative and unusual combinations. The chocolate cart after dessert was definitely a highlight. What really stood out, was the amazing service, well orchestrated, friendly and fussy in a good way across the board. The sommelier was outstanding and did some amazing wine pairings for us. Truly Special. Run!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMService and setting were outstandinService and setting were outstanding. Though I've eaten with great pleasure at some of New York's finest--Daniel, Nougatine, Boulud Sud--on my annual visits, the meal here convinced me that I'm not a great fan of extreme designer food. Each dish just seemed a little too frou frou for my taste.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a great idea is to splitWhat a great idea is to split a whole-day visit to MOMA with a lunch here. Everything is perfect in this place. Each detail has been studied and taken to perfection. At the same time, however, they manage to offer a relaxed and friendly enviroment.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThe ideal restaurant experienceEverything about our recent dinner at The Modern was perfect. We arrived 15 minutes early and were immediately escorted to our table. The waiter, sommelier, and servers were all great with the "just right" balance of friendliness and professionalism.
We ordered the tasting menu and every single course had that wow factor.
Our initial visit to The Modern when it first opened was just OK so we had not been back. After reading a recent review in the New York Times, I thought we should give it another shot. So glad we did - what a wonderful evening.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best over all diningOne of the best over all dining experiences in New York City. Great food, impeccable service, a beautiful setting. And, as only Danny Meyer can do, it's elegant and expensive, and yet friendly and accessible.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent in every regard.Excellent in every regard. The prix-fixe menu ($98) has great variety. Everything is prepared to perfection. Be sure to ask for a table away from the bar scene.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat value for the price.Great value for the price. We would, however, prefer that the restaurant serves better food even if that inflates the price of the pre-fix menu.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was imaginative and originalFood was imaginative and original and well executed. But there was nothing that would lead one to say it was a great meal. Wine by the glass was unusually good. Noisy. Great location.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMA wonderful dining experience.A wonderful dining experience. A beautiful room. Great food. Some of the best service we've had in NYC. Looking forward to our next meal there.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMA New York Gem!A truly amazing dining experience! Interesting and delightful palate selections, and great wine pairing! The view of the garden is magnificent and an added treat! The wait staff are extremely attentive and knowledgeable!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMTremendous value for a 4 courseTremendous value for a 4 course prix fixe at a great venue overlooking the Rockefeller Sculpture Garden; make sure you save room for the unlimited dessert tray they roll around at the end of the meal!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMIt's truly an event. TheIt's truly an event. The four course prix fixe is essentially 3 small plates and then dessert. I've heard people comment that the main course is very small, but in truth there is a lot to eat. We certainly didn't leave hungry. In between courses, they bring out little treats and at the end (after dessert) they bring around a cart of chocolates and other treats. They even give you a box of chocolates to take home.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMI agree with Peter Wells ofI agree with Peter Wells of the NY Times. ***. We had a 2pm reservation. After the lunch crowd left noise level was perfect.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect place to celebrateThank you so much for making our wedding night celebration the best experienced. You made it perfect for us. The staff were great and helpful. The food was amazing. The presentation was fantastic. It made us appreciate life in New York City.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMThe lunch menu is a real bargainThe lunch menu is a real bargain at the price. The food was absolutely delicious throughout and exceptionally presented. Staff were really friendly and professional and happy to explain elements of the menu which were unfamiliar. I would definitely recommend dining here when you take in MoMa.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
