The MissionWhat an amazing place!Loved it! Very upscale feeling. The menu is great and the service great. There is a lot to choose from. Went there to taste the bread pudding and could resist all the other things on the menu :) A must!5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWe sat in the back gardenWe sat in the back garden area so the noise level was not an issue. Inside is very noisy. Sit in back away from bar.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Mission was AMAZING!The food was fantastic! The service was great and the server was very knowledgeable and prompt. I really enjoyed my meal from start to finish and I am very diffucult to please with regard to food and service. I really enjoyed my dining experience. The pork "cola" apetizer is a must! Great job to all involved! The Chef is a genius.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMA great spot for a lively dinnerGreat margaritas and great food. Portions can run small - so order up. The restaurant is too dark for my taste - so much that we needed key and phone lights to read the menu. The food is outstanding and the scene is great.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMDeliciousToo my choices. Waiter was extremely helpful.
Will rerun with a larger group to try or things,5/15/2013 12:00:00 AM"VERY GOOD OVEALL"VERY ENJOYABLE MEAL. SMALLISH PORTIONS FOR THE PRICE.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAlmost PerfectMy go-to restaurant when entertaining friends and family in town. Food was fantastic, our server was super! 1 star off my overall score for rough start on arrival - made reservations on 4-26, email confirm on 5-11, followed by call from hostess on 5-11 asking me to call back and confirm my reservation - which I did - informed on arrival Sunday I did not have a reservation. After showing them my email confirmation and a few minutes of discomfort, we were seated promptly and the service I've expect from the Mission righted itself. Received an apology for the mishap on the way out. I'll attribute this slip to Mother's Day Brunch madness. If you haven't tried the Mission yet - you should go!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMLove the extra attention to detailThe Mission is our favorite restaurant in Old Town Scottsdale - the atmosphere is great for groups or even a romantic diner out. We love the preamarigartias and the unique blending of food items. Service is excellent but would recommned doing the early dining hours and sometimes they get backed up and have a small kitchen. Highly recommend.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMMission accomplished! In honor of my son's graduation from ASU we had a celebratory dinner at Mission with family and friends. The atmosphere is perfect-- vibrant, low light, fun and eclectic. We chose three spectacular appetizers to share: fantastic table-side guacamole, corn gorditas and out of this world pork belly. The entrées were more hit and miss. The filet was delicious, and so was the flat iron steak. The scallops were fair. The tacos where yum but too small for hungry college boys. The service was great; they allowed us to dine slowly and enjoy our party. The Staff asked us what we were celebrating and brought out a delicious sparkling dessert for all of us to share. Thank you Mission for making our son's graduation extra special!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous Flavors!!The atmosphere is upscale but casual and the food is wonderful. I only wish the duck appetizer was served on the lunch menu. Love the unique flavor combinations!!5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMTaste thisGood eats, good wine, good time. Guacamole was fresh made at table side, very tasty. The fish tacos were just the right size and amount. The recommended wine hit the spot, (red), paired well with chocolate desert.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and ServiceThis was the best meal we had in Scottsdale! Great limoncello margaritas and tableside guacamole. Our server was Heidi, and she was very accomodating for a special request and the service was friendly and outstanding. Get the flat iron steak if you like very tender, flavorful steak.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was wonderful exceptEverything was wonderful except for the lighting. We had a 5:15 reservation, so it was still daylight, but the restaurant was so dark that the waiter used a flashlight to show us what our food looked like. I asked if they could turn the lights up just enough for us to see what we were eating and he said that they like to keep them that low. It was a shame because they go to a lot of trouble on the food presentation, but the customers can't see how great it looks!5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMA nice change of pace...This is not your typical Latin American restaurant. It is more of a contemporary, high-end restaurant with a Latin twist. The food is excellent and there is a good variety for different tastes. The staff are energetic and helpful. The wine and drink list is long enough to cover whatever you are in the mood for. I highly recommend The Mission. Make sure you call ahead and make reservations.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMCould not be happier! What a Gem! We had the pleasure of dining here for our friends' anniversary and The Mission could not have been a better choice. Our waitress was extremely knowledgeable of the menu and showed genuine excitement about the product. Her recommendations were spot on. We had a terrific dinner, only to be surprised with a free dessert for our friends. I cant thank The Mission staff enough for their outstanding service and commitment to high quality food. A must try in Phoenix!4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMcould not be happierNothing but good things to say! Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. She seemed to enjoy her job and showed genuine excitement about the food. We started with the tableside guacamole, delicious! Now I'm a foodie, I've been on MasterChef and I'm a two time state barbecue champion. Let me just say a few things about the crispy cola pork. This is the dish I've been dreaming about! A dish cooked to such perfection is a rare find and the owners of this place need to know they've got a truly special dish here. Moving to mains, the duck confit was delicious. The scallops with smoked bananas, while slightyly overcooked, was a fine dish. The chicken tacos were delicious and the steak with cheese bread was cooked very well.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMthe food is just fantastic.the food is just fantastic. very authentic but modernized in a great way.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMLatin flavor; saboroso! We have dined here before and as always it is one of the best places to go in Phoenix.
The Latin cusine is full of mouth watering flavor bite after bite. The atmosphere is stimulating and romantic at the same time. We started our dinner with the duck empanatas which are delicious. This time they were a little bit too doughy as compared to before but still flavorful. My husbands tuna dish was excellent. I had a shrimp appetizer that was a flavor explosion. The major plus that evening was our gracious server Michael who may be the best server I have encountered in Phoenix. He let us know when the food was coming, always checked on us to see if we needed another drink and was charming. Wonderful Evening!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWas very nice wish it couldWas very nice wish it could have been more special was not happy with seating arrangements but parents had good time considering. Food portion was very small but taste was great4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyable! The food was amazing. Our server was rather annoyed making table side guacamole but it tasted spectacular. The ambiance was outstanding and would be a great place to bring out of town guests.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a great server! HeidiWe had a great server! Heidi was her name. We were celebrating our 3 year wedding anniversary and se helped to make it special... This is my husband/my favorite restaurant in Phoenix4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMTheir self-description (innovativeTheir self-description (innovative latin cuisine) is spot on. From appetizers to entrees, there was great creativity and quality. Lots of ordinary items (e.g., beef, salmon, duck, scallops, etc.) prepared in extraordinary, adventurous ways.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMThe menu was very differentThe menu was very different with interesting combinations of ingredients. We tried a number of the small plates and everything was delicious. The drinks were good as well. Would definitely go back next time I am visiting this area.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMNYC Foodie in PhoenixFrom beginning to end a terrific experience with super service and inventive and delicious food. Honestly this restaurant would be a favorite in any culinary capital of the world.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways DeliciousFood here is always delicious; that's why I keep coming back with any guest(s) that are visiting the area. The wait staff is outstanding: knowledgable, friendly, helpful and honest.
One of my favorite places in Scottsdale.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMHighlight of our vacation!Highlight of our vacation! Make sure to make reservations early because The Mission is very popular and even reservations are hard to get - but it's DEFINITELY worth it! We were visiting out of town and had an incredible evening. Originally we were seated at a table right next to the bar which was slightly loud for my elderly grandmother. The hostess was very helpful and was able to quickly find us a new table. Our waiter was very friendly and had great recommendations for appetizers and entrees. If we lived in Scottsdale I would become a regular at The Mission!! Everything about this restaurant deserves 5 stars!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, great service,Great food, great service, fantastic cucumber jalapeno margarita, delicious table-side guac. We love the decor, but loud and crowded. There were better tables in the restaurant, we were seated in a very crowded booth area.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our first experienceThis was our first experience with The Mission. We had heard good things about it and thought this would be a great place to have our 13 year Anniversary Dinner. It turned out to be a great choice. The Swordfish Veracruz was awesome and the service was even better. But the real gem of the night was the Pumpkin Bread Pudding!! AWESOME!! We would go there just for the dessert. The ambiance was nice with the candlelight, but it was quite loud. For a romantic night out we may try the outdoor seating to see if it is a little quiter. The music was a little louder and not our favorite for a romantic evening. But all in all it was a great dining experience. We can't wait to try more selections from their unique menu.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had an excellent brunchWe had an excellent brunch at The Mission. Although the food was in the good to very good category, we found the ambiance, the service and every other aspect of the visit extraordinary. The servers could not do enough, and even the less experienced staff showed a dedication to their task that was heartwarming. The setting is lovely, and the special deals on brunch drinks made the event even more appealing. Good job all around.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was amazing! TheEverything was amazing! The ambiance was fantastic! We dined in back but the inside was very nice as well. The drinks were amazing. The quacamole tableside was awesome! Everyone's meal was over the top. Even the dessert was fantastic. We will definitely be coming back!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMBest restaurant in Old townBest restaurant in Old town Scottsdale. Creative Latin/Mexican fusion. Neat place, cool vibe.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMCharming, lively hot spotThe Pork Shoulder for 2 is definitely a good choice. The guacamole was also very good. The only downside is that the tables are packed in very tightly - you are literally shoulder to shoulder with the diners on either side of you, and the noise level is very high. But it is a very popular place (appears to be the MOST popular place in Old Town Scottsdale). So they are doing their best to accommodate the most people. The restaurant is very pretty, and the service staff is friendly and efficient.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGood as always but the serviceGood as always but the service from our waitress was not nearly as good as normal. We asked her to pace the meal for us since we know the food comes out fast. We asked to have a salad first and then an appetizer but the appetizer came out before we even got the salads. Please make certain you watch out for the little things as your success continues. Also, the guacamole guy had absolutely no personality.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious food - we enjoyedDelicious food - we enjoyed a lovely anniversary dinne on the patio! Make your reservation for the patio - too noisy inside for a4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMLively, but unpredictableThis is a very lively, popular spot, beautiful patio, and very crowded even at 11pm on a weekday. Ambience: Inside, VERY NOISY, including the bar. Unless you want to wait a LONG time, you should make a reservation for the patio. SERVICE: excellent, having 2 waiters for each table, plus 2 bussers. We ended up with too many drinks and the waiter just said "my treat" and asked us to compare the "primarita" to the house margarita. Margaritas were not that great; we actually preferred the "house" marg to the "primarita." FOOD: varied widely. EXCEPTIONAL duck empanadas. AWESOME GUAC with pumpkin seeds & cheese, Mahi tacos were just OK, esp after the empanadas; Salsa was ok, but actually like the salsa at Salty Senorita better!4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my first visit toThis was my first visit to the Mission. We will certainly look forward to our next opportunity to dine there.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I recommend thisMy wife and I recommend this restaurant to everyone! Service, food, drink, atmosphere is great! You can't beat the chips and salsa to start and the fresh guacamole at the table! The Malbac Short Ribs, Swordfish, and Sea Scallops are great! Best restaurant in the Scottsdale.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Latin cuisineBeing from out of town, the Mission was recommended by a friend. They told us not to miss their guacamole. They actually have a special guac guy come to your table to prepare it mild, medium or spicy. We went with medium; it was outstanding! As we walked in, they were serving sampler margueritas, a nice touch, & tasty too! Our waiter who obviously loves his job, told us about the chef's love affair with pork & so I had it for an entree. Melted in my mouth! Nice wide ranging wine list: from affordable to really expensive. For dessert, we split the bread pudding. Bad mistake: I could have eaten it all by myself! The Mission was by far, the best Latin cuisine my wife & I have ever had! It's too bad one is not in our hometown.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful flavors. The kitchenWonderful flavors. The kitchen staff really have it going on right now. Keep it rolling...4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMMost enjoyable for a specialMost enjoyable for a special noon outing.
Modestly priced unique tasty servings, with friendly service.
We'll go back, and soon!4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat selection of small platesGreat selection of small plates and entrees as well as a great bar menu! There are 2 patios, a larger one at the back, which is very private and a small one at the front, on the street. The service is friendly. The pork shoulder tacos are fabulous, as are the short rib and chicken tacos. The scallop tacos were recommended but weren't as good as the rest.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was very creative andFood was very creative and delicious. Definitely try the lamb ribs as a starter and the braised pork tacos are great to share. Everything was terrific from the Margaritas, Tableside Guacamole, Appetizers and Tacos to the awesome desserts. Dining room is a bit dark but overall the place is busy with great energy.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMSurprising and fun food preparationSurprising and fun food preparation and pairings. Wonderfully flavored. Besutiful dining room. Extremely knowledgable and helpful staff. Great for adults and teenagers.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWe really enjoyed our mealWe really enjoyed our meal -- great menu, lots of interesting meal options. The one complaint -- the tables are too close together -- when the waiter was talking to the table next to us, we had to stop talking because of the close proximity to them. If I go back, I would request to sit outside where the tables are reasonably placed.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMMake it your missionThe Mission was highly recommended to us and met our expectations. It's conveniently located in Old Town, close to shopping, hotels, bars and attractions. The staff is friendly and attentive, and there's an energetic vibe. Seating on the patio is hard to come by but in fall and spring is worth reserving. The latin American menu is eclectic and the food is very good. We really enjoyed the short ribs and flank steak tacos with the house margarita. We'll come again when we're back in Scottsdale.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were visiting ScottsdaleWe were visiting Scottsdale from San Francisco and this nueveo latino restaurant was highly recommended to us by Bay Area friends who spend are often at spring training. We went for brunch and the food and service were both excellent. Delicious Margaritas, very good guacamole made table side. The room's eclectic decor was attractive and interesting to look at and the patio looked very inviting. We liked it so much we came back for dinner after a Giant's game. While the food was equally as good the restaurant got very busy-and while the bar scene was fun-lots of baseball insiders, the service was sluggish as the staff tried to cope with the large influx of post game partiers. I'd go back at either time-but just for drinks and good cheer.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time was wonderful,First time was wonderful, and for sure I'll be back.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMEvery time we return to Scottsdale,Every time we return to Scottsdale, The Mission is always on our list of places to eat and we are never disappointed. Our favorite is the pork shoulder for 2 with white bean puree and table side guacamole. YUM!!! This place is a must for foodies-- you won't be disappointed. The tortillas are delivered to the table on a salt block and the guacamole is custom made to your specifications. The margaritas are so smooth. The decor is amazing with black and crystal chandeliers. The lights are always dim, but never fear the wait staff are amazing and always have small flash lights on hand. This is a hot spot with great music and atmosphere.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGuacamole table side is special;Guacamole table side is special; always have street corn-don't miss! Had the lamb chop special which was delicious.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Night At The MissionGreat food. Great Service. Second visit in a week should say enough. Table side guacamole is a must!!! Had the Short Rib tacos, excellent!!!3/20/2013 12:00:00 AM
