A word from The Mission
Old Town Scottsdale’s heart is beating to a Latin drum, now that The Mission has arrived and brightened the restaurant scene. Renowned Zinc Bistro Chef Matt Carter is now cooking up modern Latin cuisine blending influences from Spain, Mexico, Central America and South America. Home made Tortillas, Arepas, and Salsas are made fresh daily and all meats are prepared on a Plancha or a grill using pecan and mesquite wood that instills a rich flavor.

Food-good. Service-good. Portions-way too small. Romantic-NO. This restaurant is good for groups. However, if you are out for a romantic evening with your wife/girlfriend, go somewhere else. The tables are less than a foot apart. We were sitting within touching distance of three other couples. There was a lot of kitchen/waiter noise and the music was so loud we had a difficult time having a conversation. One other problem - although service was good, it may have been too good. We arrived on-time for a 7pm reservation and walked out the door at 7:45. We received our dinner within 5 minutes of ordering. We ordered pork tacos for two and got 6 tortillas that were 3 inches in diameter and small sides. This, along with one OK sangria, for $68.

Our service was extremely poor and we will not return as a result. The watier repeatedly tried to take away our food before we were finished (to try and turn the table). We were there less than 2 hours and spent $200 (for four people). He even told the bus boys not to refill our water to hurry us along. The drinks were perpetually late, our order was incomplete because he was in such a hurry he didn't write everything down. The experience ws miserable because of him. I tried to write the Mission, but their email is full. Indicative of their management??? It's a great location, good atmosphere, but there are plenty of other restaurants to spend your money. Furios always has my vote and it's nearby.

This was our first visit to the Mission. The decor was beautiful and vibe was different, although it was so loud, there was no conversation. The waitress could not even hear our orders, nor did she move around to try, she asked us to speak up. Service was so slow, we had to ask to have her take our order and food was ok. Not spectacular, not awful. I ordered the Mahi Mahi tacos grilled and found that they must be served battered as they were fishy. The restaurant has a good concept though they need to work on the service and food instead of making it the "it" restaurant.

The food was marvelous!! Just great! The service was equally magnificent!! Server was very friendly and put a lot of herself Very nice atmosphere also. Only complaint was I had written for me request, I wanted a nice view to impress my girl. We got a very small table for two where she was on a bench seat and our table was between and very close to the two tables on either side of us. She said the bench was too low and a bit uncomfortable. She was sitting against the wall and I was facing the wall in the bar - no view at all. The candle light provided a nice atmosphere but I was across from her rather than next to, and there was little privacy for conversation. The experience was great and reasonable, though. WE agreed that we would go back

What a fabulous experience!!! The food was delicious, the drinks great, service excellent and the environment is great, too! We (a party of four) each got different dishes and shared everything for a delectable taste of the menu. Start with the tableside guacamole (yummy!) and try the green tomato gazpacho - great!!! Can't wait to return! An incredible treat!

Went here for the first time this past Saturday with my wife. Menu looks very interesting and the ingredients seem like they will make any dish explode with taste. We ordered 5 items, 4 from the "botanas" section which means "to share" and 1 later from the tacos section after the first 4 didn't quite fill us up. We ordered a mango jicama salad, shrimp artichuttes (shrimp skewer), the pozole, and the street corn. Out of these, everything was pretty adequate, they were good, but they just didn't really make us say wow or anything. The street corn which you think would be grilled was boiled, which you would think on the "Streets" in mexico or whatever, they would grill the corn. After this, we ordered the steak tacos, these were VERY good.

A pleasant dining experience but food and drinks were over priced for what you got. Margarita's had no alcohol in them, very weak. Portions were very small. Table-side guacamole was just o.k Blanco's has fabulous guacamole. I would not go back unless pricing was lowered. Much better places available for less money. Restaurant was a bit too dark as well.

Had brunch on a Sunday. Excellent food! More of a true brunch than breakfast. Great service. Really cool atmosphere, although it was dead for brunch. We have been to the Mission 4 or 5 times and like the unique menu and the service, but probably won't go back until the weather cools down and we can sit on the patio. We really dislike the seating arrangement inside with everyone seated close together on the wall. We also have difficulty reading the menu, because the light is so low. By the time our eyes adjust, it is too late.

The flavors were fantastic but sometimes marred by the mediocre quality of the ingredients (the meats seemed very fatty). I did not appreciate having to "wait in the bar" when we arrived at the appointed hour and our table was not ready. Our server was okay but not really attentive; his manager seemed to pay more attention to our table than he did. We did not order the guacamole made at the table but I wish we had because everyone around us did and it smelled incredible.

The Mission is an amazing dining experience. Headed by the same chef as Zinc Bistro in N Scottsdale (which is also a Must Go!), and the new Nine|05 downtown Phoenix, The Mission will not disappoint! Great ambience and impeccable service. Guacamole made fresh right at your table, and it is worth every penny. Do try the Tostadas. They will surprise you as they crunch and melt in your mouth. The Steak Tacos are small sized, but big in flavor; the meat is perfetly cooked and has an amazing flavor that is supported by the lime, cilantro, and chili. Also, we tried the Chorizo Porchetta, a delicious cut of pork shoulder cooked fork tender, and delectable chorizo adding some spicy kick. Maybe next time we will have room for desert. A must go

The food was good, but the prices were far too high and the portions far too small. The Margaritas were far too small also (small glasses filled to the brim with ice). Also, when we arrived there was a prominent sign advertising their "Sunday all you can eat "Pig Out" for $16, and when we inquired about it our waitress informed us that they were all sold out. I was amazed as we were there at 5:00p.m. on a Sunday and the place was totally empty. She stated that it had all been eaten up earlier in the day. At the very least they should take that sign down. Will not return for these reasons.

This is a great restaurant. Friendly greeting and very knowledgeable waitstaff. Our server, Noah, was very good at explaining the menu and attentive throughout our meal. Mojito was the best and the tableside guacamole, while pricey, was good. Love the salt block presentation for corn tortillas that accompanied the pork shoulder. Pork was amazing. We will be back.

We were there celebrating a birthday at 7pm on a Saturday night. When we arrived the place was quiet and maybe half way full. By the time we left at 8:30pm it was loud and full. Even the small bar was packed. The food was very good. We had the table side guacamole which was wonderful. For dinner we got the pork shoulder tacos which were phenomenal. They say they serve two and with the guacamole and a basket of mission fries, we both left satisfied. I tried the primrita (made with partida, agave nectar and limes) and it was wonderful.... great skinny margarita :) Would definitely recommend this place to friends and family.

Loud music. Cramped tables. Ordered a maragarita. Nothing special. Ordered chips and salsa. Chips very good and crunchy, salsa had a smoky flavor which wasn't our favorite. Wrong appetizer delivered to our table. Long wait for correct one. Appetizer of clam and seafood stew was excellent. Duck empanada okay. Entrees of salmon and steak from Equador both just simply okay. Pumpkin bread pudding was a stand out. Will probably not return as for the money there are much better options in Old Town Scottsdale.

Food is drastically overpriced for what you get. $12 for a small bowl of guacamole and $32 tacos is absurd, even if meant to be shared. The service was bad, but got better later in the evening as the restaurant began to liven up. I would go back, but only for drinks and appetizers, definitely not dinner. If this place dropped the grandiose, it could be great. The ambience is fantastic, music is my style (lounge), and the food tastes good.

The food was good but portions were very small. The wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable. When we were seated there were not many people in the restaurant, yet they clumped all of the diners in one area (almost on top of one another) so a private conversation was out of the question. The noisy environment with bad acoustics made it difficult to hear anyone in your party let alone the waitress. Not worth the price in my opinion and I won't go back for dinner, but would go for a late night cocktail and appetizer. Still hungry in Scottsdale
