A word from The Mission
Old Town Scottsdale’s heart is beating to a Latin drum, now that The Mission has arrived and brightened the restaurant scene. Renowned Zinc Bistro Chef Matt Carter is now cooking up modern Latin cuisine blending influences from Spain, Mexico, Central America and South America. Home made Tortillas, Arepas, and Salsas are made fresh daily and all meats are prepared on a Plancha or a grill using pecan and mesquite wood that instills a rich flavor.Continued

  • "Our server was amazing, enthusiastically describing dishes and answering our questions about ingredients we weren't familiar with, but it was so DARK that she gave us tiny flashlights to read the menus, and we had to use our cellphone flashlights to see the food on our plates!! I had a hard time deciding whether to "recommend" it or not....terrific, inventive food, but again, unnecessarily dark. When you go, ask for a table outside!!"

  • "Whenever we are in Scottsdale we make a visit to the Mission one of our objectives. We had friends in town with us and we went to the Mission for dinner and it did not disappoint. They all enjoyed the atmosphere and the food, the service was great as well. I recommend reservations because this place is always busy and if you want to get in a reservation is required."

  • "I wanted to take my wife out for a memorable anniversary dinner while in Arizona on vacation and my hotel concierge suggested The Mission. We had some amazing table side gaucamole that we polished off before the main course had even arrived. We ordered the chicken tacos which had some great heat and rojo sauce flavors that went perfectly with the slaw. We also tried the mahi-mahi tacos and opted for the beer batter preparation. I liked this but I think my wife would have preffered the grilled option. Our drinks were top notch and served with knowledgable experience. We were also treated to their pumpkin bread pudding desert which had out of this world flavor and perfect texture. All in all a successful night and my wife loved it."

We were a little later in the evening so a few of the items we wanted were already gone ( which is always a good sign to me since I have been in the industry for 25 plus years ) . The food that we substituted was great . Good price point good cocktails and the wine selection was on point !"

  • "A friend and I ate here prior to a concert and requested patio seating. The front patio is small and tables are very close to one another. Our waiter was Chris and he provided recommendations and was very attentive and professional. Margaritas are authentic and guacamole is prepared table side with your whatever degree of heat you desire. We both ordered tacos...I had the butternut squash and my friend ordered the mahi mahi. The presentation was very attractive with flavor to match. The tacos are quite small, but perfect for those with less than hearty appetites."

  • "My husband & I enjoyed the following items with our Primaritas: Tableside Guacamole, Tecate Skirt Steak Tacos, & Chipotle Honey Creamy Grits. All of these were sumptuous, well-presented, and, quite frankly, amazing. The Pumpkin Bread Pudding was to die for and goes best with the 1921 Crema de Tequila. Our service was exceptional. I would definitely recommend this restaurant & we will be going back on our next trip to Scottsdale!"

  • "My wife and I have been going to The Mission regularly since arrival in Arizona from Chicago in 2012. Actually, we were given owner Brian Raab's business card on a visit prior to our move and once he accommodated us with a table at a particularly busy time (which seems actually all the time at The Mission). Great guy and the food is always spectacular. My wife loves the Scallop taco’s. However, if there is one small drawback it’s the attitude of the hostess gaggle. There’s a real air of see-through pretentiousness about these young ladies. Some need a little attitude adjustment and training on how to warmly greet customers. Conversely, our server Amanda, as are all the servers, was fantastic. We’ll be back for the food if not the greeters."

  • "I was out of town and anticipated to try this restaurant. First, they did not have my table ready and kept showing me around for 2 make shift tables at front & back patio. Then, after 20 minutes we got seated. After the waiter took our order, he practically ignored us for the rest of the night. I asked for extra condiments and tortilla and he just ignored us. Never followed up on our requests. The food was good but the portion was small. We ordered tacos and it came with 3 small bite size tacos. It is more a bar/tapas place. The service was extremely poor."

  • "Food was fabulous, from guacamole appetizer to pumpkin bread- pudding (even if you're not a fan, it's worth trying for the butterscotch sauce). I'm already a fan of awesome Mexican food, but the Latin flare of these tasteful dishes made this a new favorite! Completely like nothing I've tasted before and so very good! Ambience is a little dark, but I liked it. We only needed a I-Phone flashlight once to review drink menu. Enjoy! We'll definitely be back."

  • "What happened to The Mission? The food was cool. The manager said they serve food cool. We have dined the world and this was poor service. The waitress was arrogant and dismissive. We probably won't go back, but they really don't need to care what we think as it is small and busy. By the way the bar servers were very good, friendly, and attentive."

  • "On each of my visits to Scottsdale, I always make reservations at The Mission. The food is outstanding and great for sharing. The noise levels inside can be pretty high, so I generally prefer an outside table. They have heaters and even bring you blankets if you are cold. The margaritas are the best I've ever had and the service has always been great."

  • "Even with a reservation we needed to wait over 25 minutes for a table (on a Sunday night). They have an interesting setup there, where you need to wait for a particular table that is reserved for you. So, if the group before is taking their time, you wait, and wait, and wait... We were seated on the patio, which was quieter and more enjoyable. The waitress was helpful and courteous. The food was good but a bit pricey for what you got. Drinks are on the expensive side too. Desserts were excellent. I wanted to really like this place, but I got the impression that since this restaurant seems to take advantage of being the only "happening" place downtown."

Then when we asked to give us some time, she got attitude and didn't return until I had a busser get her. Very disappointing for sure. I live in Scottsdale and I think establishments tend to forget that this time of year."

  • "Stayed long enough to be annoyed by the hostess and server. Left and went to a better restaurant. Only reservations available were at 3 pm (we wanted 5 pm), though the place was empty when we arrived at 2:45. Check in and told the Roast pork was not available (even though there appeared to be a lot available). We were seated and given the brunch menu (though brunch was over and they would only serve a few items from it) The hostess was completely unprofessional, and the other employees were marginally better. We waited for about 20 minutes and then walked out."

  • "We loved the food and the atmosphere of the outside patio. It was very tough to park though. Drove around for over 15 mins and then figured out they had a valet. But after waiting in line for the valet for 10 minutes, they said they were full (although there were plenty of available valet parking spots so I didn't understand??). We ended up getting last spot in their underground garage. Guac was great, as was the pork taco dish and the scallop entrée. We are from out of town but will definitely go back whenever in the area."

  • "The guacamole made fresh to order table-side is a MUST. The tacos are equally delicious (duck, porchetta chorizo...). Overall the food and our server were great, but it is REALLY DARK inside the restaurant and cold (AC is on high). It doesn't feel like they want you to get too comfortable and stay too long, and in fact when they called me to reconfirm my reservation they also told me when I needed to leave by. I don't think we stayed much more than an hour even though we had an hour and 45 mins allotted to us, and I appreciate restaurants have to juggle reservations, but all in all, I got the impression they have high demand, and they're trying to "process" people through."

  • "Been to The Mission several times. Always order the pork tacos. Usually very good. But, the pork was delivered lukewarm this time. The table for two did not have enough room for the pork platter, the tortillas, the table side avocado dip we paid extra for, our drinks and the chips. We were very crowded and uncomfortable. The noise level the day we went was very high so we could not enjoy a conversation with each other. Recommend the corn side - very good."

  • "We usually take out of town guests to the Mission and hope that this was just a bad night. The food was not consistently good as in the past and The Portabello Mushroom Taco was almost inedible (very salty). The service was poor and we were told that the kitchen can only plate 5 meals every 10 minutes. We were comped a desert which was the highlight of the meal (Pumpkin Bread Pudding). We sat outside which was very pleasant as the indoor space is noisy."

  • "This was our first visit to Mission which is located in happening Old Town in Scottsdale. The bar scene was fun & vibrant, albeit the restaurant was so poorly lighted everyone had to use their iPhone flashlights to see the menu. The service was responsive, professional and fun, and the margaritas, chips and salsa were all pretty good. However, the food was pier and over salted so much all four of us left half of our main dishes. The kale salad was inedible and the salt burned the tongue --- the waitress agreed and didn't charge us for it. The salmon special was overcooked, plopped on the plate with bland side dishes. We were excited to try the Mission and were sadly disappointed. Fun location & scene but poor food."
