  • "It was my boyfriend's birthday and I wanted to take him somewhere really special and this restaurant was just that!! Food was fabulous, service was perfect and prices were reasonable. My only recommendation would be to offer bread or rolls after being seated. Otherwise I will definitely be back! Also, they remembered what I had mentioned about his birthday, they surprised us with a complimentary champagne toast and had spelled out "Happy Birthday!"with the dessert sauce!! Lovely and very much appreciated."

  • "We asked for a romantic table and they placed us right bythe fireplace, we told them we just got married on NYE and that we were celebrating valentines a week late. Our waitress fell over herself inkindness sevice and special attention! Our dessert had a special little valentine note and she took pics of us for memories!!! Thank you!"

  • "Great atmosphere, right on the river. Three-course prix fixe menu on Sunday and Monday. Everything was excellent except for my wife's roast beef, which was a very thin cut, dry and fatty."

  • "Our experience at the Mill on the River was just wonderful, My aunt just recently became a widow and her daughters and their families were out of state so we decided to fill in the gap and take her to dinner somewhere where she had never been. I had discovered Mill on the River one day when I was looking around for somewhere different to go. The Mill on the River is 45 minutes away from where we live but it was worth every mile. I can't wait to go again and my aunt and wife feel the same way. The food was fabulous, the price is right and the staff and ambiance are great. This is a wonderful place if you like scenic restaurants with great food."

  • "Came across this gem of a restaurant while searching for a wedding venue in 2005 and have returned to celebrate every special occasion ever since. It is also where we take our out of town guests for dinner. The food is wonderful and so is the service. I would recommend "The Mill on the River" to anyone especially if it is to celebrate a special event."

  • "This is an outstanding restaurant with amazing food. .. our experience was out of this world! Everything we ate down to our drinks and dessert was nothing like ever tasted. We have decided to hold our wedding reception here. Looking forward to a great time."

  • "Wife and I escaped for a pleasant date. My rack of lamb was great and the presentation was professional. The beet salad was interesting and is now a new favorite. Their wine selection is substantial and impressive but when my Pinot Noir was served at ambient temperature I was surprised given the multiple Wine Spectator awards. My wife was very pleased with her choice of filet with herb reduction. Our waitress was rated at fair but I would not want others to judge by this alone. The staff in general (hostess, bread and water service and servers) all did well. We normally have fantastic service from everyone. This may have just been an off-night for her. If you are in South Windsor and looking for upscale dining this is your place!"

  • "I booked dinner reservations for two,an evening dinner to celebrate my husband's birthday. As we entered the restaurant, we saw two beautiful wedding parties lined up waiting to greet their guests. My husband and I were greeted by the hostess to take us to a table right in front of the fire place. A cozy and quiet place for a rainy evening away from our everyday, busy life. The food was flawless and the waiter entertaining. A casual evening really turned into something to celebrate. We look forward to our next getaway at the Mill on the River."

  • "The experience from door to dessert was exactly what you desire from a class establishment. Mill on the River clearly deserves that destinction. Our waiter was fast, knowledgable and super attentive. We didn't wait more than 45-60 seconds for anything but drinks which still came very fast. The raw bar items were super fresh. I had a seafood fra diavlo that was out of this world and my wife's filet was so tender you could cut it with a fork, the dessert was fresh and unique, you can tell it doesn't come out of a box. Ithe setting and age of the structure itself only add to the experience. Hand carved wooden beams and planks and the kissing bridge on the way in are two beautiful examples of early American carpentry. Go to this restaurant."

  • "My girlfriend and I enjoyed our anniversary at Mill on the River last weekend. The service was knowledgable and friendly. We sat next to large party which got a little noisy at times, but not enough to ruin our experience. We both had great entrees. I had the lobster with pasta and was pleasantly surprised by the abundance of lobster in the dish. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great dining experience."

  • "My husband and I go to Mill On the River for a wonderful quiet dinner for just the two of us. The atmosphere, food and service is remarkable. We have been many times and have always had an absolutely wonderful time. They work with our food allergies well and the food is just delicious. We travel from over an hour and a half to dine here and it is well worth it. We work hard for our money; this place is well worth every penny. Highly suggest going to The Mill on the River."

  • "Mill on the River is a personal favorite. Great food, good value, attentive service, nice decor, extensive wine list and beautiful setting. Four of us enjoyed the prime rib and mahi mahi from last week's Guest Appreciation menu. Very tasty. I highly recommend MOTR for a meal or for a visit to the bar."

  • "I made my reservation using Open Table which was very convenient. We had a table right next to the fireplace as requested which was lovely. The waiter was fantastic, as was the food and table service. The Manager even came over to the table to make sure our experience was a good one. To our surprise 4 glasses of champagne were was sent to our table for "the birthday boy". Generally speaking in this area fine restaurants are few and far between unless you travel to Hartford. Mill on The River is a great place to have a date, or special occasion, and we are happy we discovered it in time for this weekend. You will not be disappointed."

  • "I made a reservation for 9 PM, since my son works late and I wanted him to join me in celebrating his father's birthday. We had a delightful evening and, even though it was late and we were the only ones left in the diningroom, never felt hurried. Our waitress even brought over a little cake and champagne toast to add to our celebration!. The food was delicious, and we did have a lovely table in front of the fireplace. Great evening and wonderful service."

  • "Brunch was not good.Filet mignon egg benedicts lacked flavor, hollandaise was 2 thick and skimpy;had 2 ask 4 more.Potatoes were cold/mushy.Boyfriend’s 4 egg omelet seemed like a 1 egg omelet;paper thin and small for 4 eggs.Server came once 2 offer 2 refill boyfriend's ginger ale,but I had 2 request 2 have my tea refilled twice. The customers across were celebrating a birthday.Server asked what the occasion was 4 us 2 be there,I told her it was boyfriend’s birthday. She said congratulations and came out with cake with candle 4 the other customer, but not 4 my boyfriend.Server came around 4 times to ask if the check was ready apologizing 4 asking about the check, but asking about it anyway.I’m truly disappointed about The Mill.It was a let down."

  • "Our party of four enjoyed the food, and the service was very good. The staff at the front desk was friendly and courteous - especially since some of our party was a bit late. Menu was far more extensive than I expect - and I've traveled the world. I tried a typical German dish, somewhat risky if you've eaten the same dish in Germany - but it was very good."

  • "I guess times are tough in the restaurant business. I've been going to the Mill for several years now and I could not help but notice that everything got smaller. From the raw bar shrimp that used to be size colossal that are now extra large , the size of the mussels were less than half of what they used to be and you do not get has many and my dinner plate of seafood Fra Diavolo was about two thirds the size compared to prior visits. That being said the food was very good and our waitress was excellent. Just to be clear this is not a negative review but an observation that things have changed at the Mill on the River so if you have not been there in a while be prepared for change."

  • "Mill on the River is a dinner venue that never disappoints. With phone or Open Table reservation options, the ability to reserve a table is efficient. Servers are well trained, with a positive teamwork experience coordinated throughout the dinner. But, of course, the most important aspect is the food and the pricing... There is something for everyone at Mill on the River. I don't visit often enough, but a visit this weekend simply reinforces that this should be in your Top 5 when considering dining options."

  • "Nestled in a quiet town neighborhood of South Windsor, the folks at Mill on the River are outstanding. Scheduled a buiness dinner online and was given the best table in the restaurant. Service was fantastic with a character in Shay. The food couldn't have been cooked and seasoned any better. Highly recommended."

  • "My wife enjoyed her spinach salad. My prime rib was served medium, I requested medium/rare . The accompanying lobster tail was near impossible to pry from its shell. Waitress was good overall, forgot butter request for potato. Dessert was good. For the $120 + check/tip, I felt that Delaney/log cabin/hotel Northampton would have been a better choice, and where we will go for future holiday/anniversary dinners. Hostess was unengaging, stairs to dining on lower level difficult to navigate safely"

  • "This place is pretty awesome I thought. We normally don't frequent places this nice. The 2 things that I would complain about and really it's nit picking, is that there was no time to just sit and talk. You're seated, a waitress arrives, then what would you like really quick same thing with being served. Done with apps and presto entree is there. While I'm all for good service this just seemed like we were being rushed and the place was not busy. The food was excellent and this is the 2nd thing the meat in my girl's lobster tails stuck to the shell making it hard to get it all. While it tasted great we just hadn't run into that before. Dessert was outstanding also!!"

  • "The food on the Valentines Day special menu was fantastic (we both had the Beef Wellington), and the atmosphere was very romantic. The only negative on the evening was our service. I don't know if the waitress wrote us off because we are a younger couple (26), or if she was just having a bad night, but she did not pay very much attention to us at all; plus the meals took quite a bit of time to come out. After she came to pick up our dessert plate, I had to ask what happened to the champagne toast that came with the Valentines Day menu; she had completely forgot to bring it. Then, when she dropped off the bill, she literally dropped it on the table and walked away without saying a word. The subpar service is the only thing wrong."

  • "We usually go to Mill on the River for valentines day and special occasions. Our table has been better at times, this time we were kind of in a high traffic area and it was a little annoying. Food was good as expected and the service couldn't be better. We made reservations and were seated promptly after we arrived. Portion size is just right, not too big not too small."

  • "I came to The Mill On The River for the first time ever with my boyfriend on Valentine's Day. We arrived early to have a cocktail at Happy Hour, and we were not disappointed. My drink, the Lemon Blossom, was incredible. We also had the mussels poulette with our drinks, and it was to die for. We were seated in the River Room on the lower level, very romantic. We started with some absolutely perfect oysters, and a wedge salad. He ordered blackened redfish with rice and cole slaw, which was very good, but we both agreed that my hunter's style veal with cabbage, mashed potatoes, and a rich mushroom sauce was the winner. Paired with a rosé called Domaine de Paris, the meal was nothing short of wonderful. Slightly watery tiramisu finished it off."

  • "Because of the looming snow storm, we changed our reservation from Feb. 13th to the 12th. My husband and I are never disappointed with Mill on the River. Our meals were excellent, my filet cooked as ordered and my husband's seafood dish was outstanding. We almost always take home a "doggie bag" when we go out to eat but there was nothing left on our plates except the garnishes. I'm sure we will be back for our wedding anniversary in July! I will comment on our waiter however. He wasn't very attentive, water glasses not refilled, coffee brought with cream but no sugar (my husband finally got up and took the sugar container off an empty table). Perhaps he was having a bad night but that didn't spoil our evening out."
