The only thing was for me given the hot hot day outside it was very warm inside. All and all had a wonderful experience and can't wait to come back6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMA first time visitor!There are only 8 tables in the dining room, about 4 tables in the bar area, and the counter seating at the kitchen. The atmosphere makes anywhere you sit in the dining room relatively private; the huge windows provide beautiful views...the night we were there, we watched storms roll in and light up the skies.
The menu changes daily, depending on what the local farms are able to provide. My meal started with octopus sauteed in coconut with curried shrimp and black beans...and my entree of ricotta ravioli and sweet peas was delicate and delicious...the 3 hour meal ended with binet donuts sitting in homemade carmel...it was all amazing.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMNYC food in Sleepy SimsburyThe chef displays true mastery in his preparation of fresh and inventive dishes. The service was outstanding. The food was even more outstanding. The ambiance is very nice. My only complaint was that the chairs seem to be very worn out as far as the cushion and springs. I can tell you that it did very little to detract from the outstanding dining experience. The menu changes daily and there is always something delicious. The wait staff is courteous and attentive. Sitting at the counter is always a treat, and the chef has given me samples of food I would not have imagined trying. We liked the intimate setting and how they made us feel extra special. We were pleasantly surprised with some bubbly that they brought to the table immediately to wish us a Happy Anniversary. This was my second visit and my husband first time and he agreed that he would definitely come back again. Prices were on the high side but not overpriced. Portions were fine for the type of restaurant. I heard a lot about the menu changing daily, but I am not sure that was the case as the menu posted on the internet was very similar. The tables were spaced far enough apart to ensure privacy as well as comfort. Service was prompt and friendly. It would have been a nice touch if one of the owners would have taken a moment to stop by tableside and ask if we were satisfied--the answer would have been YES. The popovers were great. Went with the pork belly appetizer and I have never had a blend of flavors that matched so well and tasted so delicious. The Pork shank matched that quality and the dessert trio was the perfect way to finish the meal.Service was attentive and not overbearing. A small, quaint setting with an active "eat at the wine & beer bar and watch the chef cook atmosphere". The food was outstanding. I opened with the escargot, the best I've ever had. My wife had the rib eye, a healthy juicy steak. My entre was the rabbit, not something I order often. It was very satisfying, a little boney, but the plating and taste were wonderful. We all finished sharing the dessert taster, don't leave without trying the donuts. Maybe pricey, but worth it. A smallish wine list, but complete. This time we went with another couple and we again did the tasting menu. The chef even accommodated a dietary restriction of one of our party. The food was outstanding; each course a tasty blend of ingredients and sauces. We chose the wine tasting accompaniment and each was generously poured and explained and were excellently paired. The Mill is expensive, but you are not only paying for the high quality food, but also the creativity of this husband and wife duo - every night a different menu. The staff has their routine perfectly choreographed to a point that it is somewhat a transactional experience. You know going in that you have two hours to eat dinner. My wife and I are very conscious of how long we have occupied a table, we just always had a feeling that we were being timed. The food was very good. My wife and I had the Hanger steak.
