  • "I wasnt blown away by the food here, but it was a pretty decent brunch. The service definitely needs improvement. Our waitress disappeared for a half hour after we finished our meal before we could get out check. The eggs with harissa and prawns was very good. I thought the skillet pancake was ok, but it wasnt sweet enough for my taste. It needed a bit more to make it taste like a pancake for me. I would check it out again for brunch or dinner. "

  • "Pleasing 6 Philly foodies ain't easy. The Mildred unpretentious decor got immediate approval. Service attentive , enthusiastic without being intrusive. Menu short but creative , interesting. All six of us happy with lamb, Caesar salad, bison burger, snapper, and especially the pastas and side veggies. Wine list not extensive but good selection and cocktails. Glad it's only a few blocks away and plan to return. A good spot for a group since because of the rooms being broken up you can actually have a conversation!!!"

  • "Usually good for brunch, untill this visit. We arrived promptly at 1 and were seated shortly. Our party of 6 was only 1 of 3 tables of the afternoon. Thats why its hard to understand why it took 30min. to get our drinks & another hour to get the food. When it finally arrived it didnt look or taste as good as it has in the past. Clearly it wasn't just the fault of the obviously inefficient/inexperienced waitress. The kitchen obviously had a bad afternoon. Our 2 drinks were comped by the owner. Unfortunately my one friends time couldn't be. She had to leave for her 3:30 apptmnt. shortly after our foods arrival."

  • "This was my second time at the Mildred and my experience was the same each time--great food, lousy service. The menu is vast and has many appealing options. The drinks great, too. The first time we went the staff pretty much ignored us--it was packed but yet they still chose to talk to each other instead of take ( or put in) our order. Though our drinks and food took a long time but it was very good when it came. This time it was empty but still super slow. Again once the food arrived it was fantastic but with no bread while we waited for brunch I would have opted to instead go somewhere quicker with slightly less good food. "

  • "Brunch was a great experience! The service was friendly and I ordered the Omelet of the Day which was so tasty! It was a a cheese, tomato and Brussels sprouts. I ordered a biscuit to go with it and it was so good very buttery but delicious!"

  • "My girlfriends and I went there for Sunday brunch and it was a little underwhelming. The decor is fantastic and has a warm feel but the brunch is not great. I had the omelet and it tasted like powdered eggs with no seasoning. Thankfully we ordered the biscuits and they came with truffle butter. It salvaged an otherwise mediocre meal."

  • "Our family of 6+2 little ones were welcomed warmly and set up in a cosy spot. Our shared appetizers were all were very tasty. We chose fish stew, lamb amd chicken as entrées and we all thought the chicken was the best although everything was thoughtfully and creatively prepared and presented, and all of our plates were clean at the end of the meal. Desert was also shared and the brownie with bacon ice cream was great but the rum bomba won by a small margin. Although the wine list was small we found a delicious Shiraz that complimented all of our meals. Well done Mildred!"

  • "Had brunch on a Sunday with two friends. Menu was atypical of other brunch menus. Food delicious, well presented and well prepared. Service was very good, attentive without hovering. I spoke to an owner afterwards to tell him how much I enjoyed eating there. It was so good we'll be going back for dinner. Baked eggs, baked omelet, salads, roasted lentils. All were wonderful and beautifully solved. A little noisy but as other diners left, it was quite comfortable."

  • "This was our third time at The Mildred. They follow a farm to fork philosophy, with many fresh and interesting ingredients. The house made ricotta appetizer was especially good. We had pasta and chicken entrees--both good as well. A decent list of beer, wine and cocktails. We still need to try the place for brunch one day. If you find yourself in the South Philly area and are looking for a solid American-style menu, The Mildred fits the bill. A recurring downside (no fault of the restaurant!) is that parking is always extremely difficult. So leave a little extra time to find a space. Otherwise, a safe choice with decent variety in the area for dinner."

  • "I took my wife here for dinner since we hadn't been before. The first thing I noticed as we walked in was the scent of the fire in the fireplace, which was nice since it was chilly out. We got there on the early side and service was prompt, however as the place filled up it really slowed down. We weren't waiting for food for long, so that's good at least. Our server was very nice and she knew the menu, she also offered helpful recommendations. The food was delicious. Presentation was nice, both our appetizer and entrees were well executed and satisfying. The homey but modern feel of the space is a nice complement to the comforting but still interesting flavors."

  • "I was disappointed as I had heard great things. There was no one to greet us at the door. We were seated in a dark corner next to a large party with children, though there were other tables open. We asked to be moved which was granted. It took over 10 minutes to get us water and even longer to deliver the coffee we ordered. It was abundantly clear that they were understaffed. The waitress was running in every direction and looked stressed. After being seated for over 30 minutes without placing an order. Moved to the bar. At the bar things improved dramatically. The bartender took our order immediately, refilled our coffee and water and gave us complimentary mimosas. The eggs bene was sumptuous. Over all a decent brunch was salvaged"

  • "The Mildred is a lovely to look at, wonderful to eat at spot. The emphasis is on iron pan cooking, and three of the four entrees we had were cooked this way. The place has a simple, clean but sophisticated look, and the dinner ware is hand-made pottery - very nice. They have a small but thoughtful wine list and great mixed drinks. The Mildred is a little more expensive than most restaurants in this neighborhood, but the food is definitely worth it, and the service is also better than most neighboring places. Don't know why this place doesn't have people beating down the doors!"

  • "My friend, his 11-year old son, and I came here around 3pm last Sunday. It was empty, but they had a nice fire going and the waitstaff was very friendly and attentive. The French toast was fantastic, as were their sausages & potatoes au gratin, and eggs & potatoes according to my friend, and the special order grilled cheese for the picky palate in our group was also well received. They have some creative cocktails as well, which I'd recommend trying (eg punch, farmers daughter, bourbon & stout)"

  • "My experience at the Mildred was very positive. The wait staff was extremely nice and very attentive. The food for the most part was excellent. Well prepared with balanced inventive flavors. I particularly enjoyed the kielbasa that came with my fish stew and the new flavored marshmallow with dessert. If you like the look of their menu, then I highly recommend paying the Mildred a visit. The only caution I would offer is that the portion sizes are adequate, but perhaps slightly on the small side. If you are really starving, you might be better elsewhere. If not, stop the Mildred and you will not be disappointed."

  • "I had been wanting to try this neighborhood place for a while because I thought it looked intriguing from the street. I was very pleased I did and I will be going back. The seaweed bucatini (!), salsify terrine, mushroom crepes, chocolate dessert with homemade gelato, and bacalhau fritters were outstanding. I docked a star for the so-so venison burger and uninspired greens with wheat berries. Our server was helpful and unobtrusive. I liked the manageable wine list -- we had a moderately priced bottle of malbec that was yummy. The atmosphere is very pleasant -- busy but not crazy. I might have liked it less had I been facing the TV over the bar."

  • "We arrived at the restaurant not realizing that on Sundays it was brunch all day. I had looked at the menu on line and there was no mention of it at all. But our lovely server Chrissy took such great care of us at the bar we decided to stay rather than look for an alternate place to dine. The food was delicious in the end and we really appreciated that the chefs made us a potato dish to accompany our meal. Love that the chefs brought our main dishes out to us themselves, a great touch. Only complaint was that one of the desserts we ordered was simply a smaller version of one of the appetizers. But thanks to Chrissy one more time for an amazing evening!!"

  • "After a major hassle looking for parking in the area on a New Year's Eve, I learned that the Mildred had a valet by their front door (thank you). Then we were off on our multi-course dinner. Everything was delicious, but highlights were the grilled scallops, the braised vegetables (amazing mushrooms), and the cacio e pepe pasta."

  • "There was a group of 8 of us out to dinner after a Christmas Concert. This was our first visit and we were extremley pleased with the Mildred. The staff was very accommodating, friendly and professional. The restaurant has great ambiance with chic decor, but still warm and cozy. Our entire group raved about the food and the overall decor and ambiance of the Mildred. It is definitley a place I would recommend for special occasions as well as a last minute night out for dinner."

The ambiance would be much improved if they got rid of the TV in the bar area and made the atmosphere more restaurant like.   • "I had such high hopes for the Mildred but found it very disappointing. My boyfriend and I did the tasting menu, &while the food was good every course took so incredibly long to come out it took away from the experience. We were served only 1 dish w/any form of meat in it, otherwise every dish that came out were those that were the least expensive on the menu. definitely will NOT do the tasting menu again it was a rip off, $45 per person to only be served 1 dish w/any form of visible meat/ fish, no thanks. We added on the fried mussels& fennel dish, again disappointing &a rip off. The dish had barely any of the tiny mussels on it &was in dire need of salt. Then to top it off the server "forgot" about my leftovers& accidentally threw it out."

  • "Slow, disorganized service. Had run out of some food / tea even though we were the first guests that morning. We were the only ones in the restaurant for Sunday brunch. Food was decent, but did not exceed our expectations. Servers were friendly, but not too capable. I was served have a mug of only warm tea (mind you, tea costs $4). The setting is nice and it could be a great place for brunch if the restaurant was run better. I don't think any of us 8 people would go back or recommend it to anyone."

  • "We just ate dinner at The Mildred. Sat Nov 30. Food was at such a high level. Tavern steak, chicken dish cooked perfectly. Pasta made in house is also perfection. Veal meatballs and polenta, heavenly. Apple pie and cinnamon ice cream was enough for two and again perfect. All i can say is go there now!!"

  • "Beer and wine offerings were very good. The general manager, Michael Dorris, met us at the bar and shared the history of the Mildred, a nice touch. The place was very clean, lighting was just right, the noise level was energetic and the fireplace was crackling, a very warm atmosphere. The wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable without being intrusive. The food was exquisite. The flavors in each dish were superb. The bread was fresh and warm and the rabbit meatballs were the best. The main courses were equally spectacular. We had the striped bass, the vertical chicken, the tavern steak and the bouillabaisse, all cooked to perfection. This place was amazing. It is definitely fit for foodies, good for groups, and a real neighborhood gem!"

  • "After our first dinner there Saturday night we enjoyed it so much we went for brunch Sunday morning. Both times the food was exquisite. Presentation is done in Staub cast iron cookware (even coffee is served in them.) Dinner was with a group of friends so we were able to sample most of the menu (& clafoutis dessert mmm!) Brunch was the two of us and we ate more than necessary just to taste all the delicious food. I dare say brunch here will spoil all your favorite spots because it's in a different league. It begs the question why bother with the wait at Sabrina's a block away when the food here is superior and tables plentiful. I almost don't want to tell people about Mildred to keep this neighborhood gem a secret."
