Diner Reviews
  • "I loved the feel of the neighborhood that the Melting Pot is in. The atmosphere was great for a romantic fun night with my wife. It was our first time with fondue and she did not like the ID of having to "cook" her own entree but once we started we both enjoyed the experienced. We stated with the cheddar and broccoli fondue. My wife had the duck and I had the chicken breast. Using the broth to sear our meat made the meal fun. The service was prompt and polite throughout the night."

  • "This is our second visit and we weren't disappointed this time either. I only wish that they had half portions since it is a lot of food, especially their 4-course meal. The lighting could be a bit more cheerful. Both our visits were for dinners and it looks a bit drab. Don't know how it would look during the daytime. Great service and very friendly staff."

  • "Standard chain, so food is great, as expected. This melting pot is in major need of a remodel, upgrade of seats, plates etc. the booths are so old you sit in the dip of the seat, also the smell has seeped into the carpet. I expect a nice looking restaurant for the price per person. Service was decent. "

  • "Great as usual! Thank you for listening to my suggestions last time about the things that were lacking on the past visit."

  • "Got a flat tire on the way to the restaurant on Valentine's Day and was able to reschedule dinner for the following Tuesday. As usual, food was delicious and service was top notch. There were a few hiccups with the equipment, but nothing that could have been prevented by the staff. Despite this, we'll definitely be back!"

  • "Our experience was great as usual, however I wanted to comment on a few details regarding the food prep. The salads were good however the California salad was missing the gorgonzola cheese as described in the menu. The chef salad my friend ordered was missing the bacon on it, also as described in menu. Another thing that was amiss was that apparently cocktail sauce is no longer served with the shrimp. As such shrimp were not ordered. We did not get tortilla chips like usual with the cheese; yet we saw other tables with this. Things ought to be consistent and prepared as described. Overall, our meal was great as usual but I feel that attention to detail is important and there were things lacking with what is usually a perfect visit."

  • "I made reservations for my girlfriend and I to go here on valentines day. We were excited for the experience and were not disappointed with that. The waitress was friendly and knowledgable. However, the food was below what we were expecting. There was only a fixed menu that night. It would have been nice if this was optional. I do not like salad but the fixed menu came with 2 salads. Additionally, we both do not like salmon or pork but it came with our dinner. For the price ($205 with tax+tip), we felt like the menu left much to be desired. The dessert, however, was amazing. At the end of dinner, we had a lot of negative comments to say about the dinner. We might come back for another special occasion but probably just for dessert."

  • "Nothing special for a fondue place. Food is average, they use really cheap.shredded cheese, and the meats aren't they great quality. Very expensive for what you get."

  • "I decided to try out the melting pot with my family, and overall I wasn't extremely impressed. Expecting a bustling, loud, MaxBrenner-ish dining experience, I was surprised when I found the restaurant having only four people. The waiter was slow, and the food was minimal. After an almost excruciating experience, I can say the best part of the melting pot was the dessert, and that's it. If you ever go to the melting pot, never come hungry and be sure to skip straight to dessert. But be willing to open your wallet wide because it is EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE."

  • "We were there for over 4 hours! By the time our waitress actually brought us our check it was 10:30 at night. (After we started at 7:15) after waiting more than 20 minutes for her to come back we all stood up and brought the check to the front desk, where there was still no one. Our waitress had to be searched out. Throughout the evening she forgot to get us several things we asked for, and part of my order was even missing. We had to ask for water refills over 4 times, each time waiting for over 10 minutes before it came. We eventually started to ask whatever member of the waitstaff walked by. Terrible experience for being charged over 200.00 for food we cook ourselves. I will never be back."

  • "Chose this location as a first date venue. It was a great selection because we were able to interact and talk and cook dinner together. The Cheese is always amazing (cheddar) and the chocolate dessert are always enjoyable."

  • "I think everyone knows what you get when you go to the melting pot. The server was nice but sub-par. I know they train these people because of the logistics of having raw food and a heating plate at your table. She didnt elaborate on any of that and was a bit slow..."

  • "My daughter and her 5 friends went to Melting Pot to celebrate her 16th Birthday. They had a great time. Waiter was very helpful (first time at the resteraunt for the girls). They had vegetarian options. Girls said the best part is the app and the dessert. Bit pricy so a special occasion place."

  • "I recently dined at the Melting Pot with my boyfriend. It was a great night. I am always surprised at the level of knowledge that the service staff is prepared with. Though service was a little slow at times (our waiter informed us they were severely understaffed for the evening) it was a nice night."

  • "Came here with my ex girlfriend, and it completely broke the ice with awkwardness. This was fun, gave us something hands on to do, and now we are working on repairing our relationship."

  • "What could be more fun than cooking your own dinner? Interactive fun and tasty treats with always wonderful service. The Melting Pot aims to please --- the food is good but it pays to go just for the cheese and chocolate!!"

  • "We had a birthday dinner there for my mothers 84th. She loved it and so did my teenagers. We loved the beer and cheese fondue and especially the chocolate turtle fondue for dessert. Will go back again. It's a bit pricey, so I will reserve for special occasions! Yum!"

  • "Everything took forever. Over two hours until we were given our check after asking someone else for our server to come to our table after waiting 45 min since she dropped off the dessert menu. Since it took so long just to get that point, we skipped dessert, which is disappointing. Unfortunately we just got stuck with a horrible server. The table next to us had a great server that actually paid attention to them. The manager was told about the poor service and all he said was sorry. I would recommend trying another Melting Pot to avoid possible poor service, unless you have 3.5 hours to eat dinner"

  • "I love the dim lights and romantic ambience. I wouldn't recommend it for groups unless your group is good about splitting the food otherwise you'll leave hungry. The best experiences I've had here is when it's just me and my husband. We leave so full and happy"

  • "Our waiter was AWFUL. She completely forgot us on several occasions left all used plates at the table and never asked if we would like refills on our drinks we had to ask a floater who was helping her with our table for refills. We were there for our anniversary and she told us there was no more champagne when the couple next to us received two rounds of bubbly. She also had no knowledge on making the fondue and left the pot scorching hot which we also had to turn down ourselves because she never came back. When we asked for our check she set it down and as she was WALKING away she said have a good night. The food quality is always great and the quiet tables provide privacy and add romance, this is one of our favorite places."

  • "This was the first time my wife and I dined at The Melting Pot. Among all of the restaurants in Somerville, this one truly stands out with its concept. Our waiter was very friendly, knowledgeable of the menu and guided us through the process of how to cook our food in the fondue pots. I would recommend choosing the 4 course specials, which save you a couple of dollars compared to ordering a-la-carte. The ambiance is perfect for fondue-style dining. My only criticism is directed toward the diners that were there Saturday night: DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILDREN. We are all paying a premium for a unique dining experience, and it is incredibly rude toward the other customers and the restaurant staff to deal with their yelling and running around."

  • "We have been to many Melting Pots and on this evening it was not up to par. They seated our server with 4 or 5 tables at the same time. Because we were "vets" he served us, but really gave us very little attention. He was personable and efficient, but part of the Melting Pot experience is the server interaction and he just didn't have time. Secondly, I received a coupon by email that said we had a gift of 6 chocolate covered strawberries. When we got home I opened the box there were 3. Not sure if I read something wrong, but I feel pretty sure it said 6. Finally, the servings seems to have gotten smaller in the last year. Not sure if that is restaurant specific or the whole chain. That is disappointing. Also, BRING BACK ONION RINGS!!!!"

  • "This is the third Melting Pot I've visited, and it was exactly what I expected. Great fondue, friendly staff, quality breads/meats/desserts. Brownie bites covered in dark chocolate are how I wish I could end every meal."

  • "We went here to celebrate our anniversary. The food was delicious, however, our server lacked service. We asked for water, we got our cheese fondue and our salad before we got water. We had to flag down a manager to bring us water. From that point on the manager kept checking on our table. We really enjoyed our meal but the service definitely took away from it."

  • "We enjoyed the experience, the flexibility we were offered with different diners needing options, and our server was a patient, friendly and very helpful young man!! Very nice wine choices. The only down was the items they give for dessert fondue. The consensus was that the cheesecake, strawberries, pound cake are great, the rest they can keep."

  • "You pay more for the experience then food. The food is decent but not worth the high price tag. Fun date night. However, I prefer to spend that kind of money on finer food."

  • "We had a very enjoyable time. Fixed menu was perfect for Valentine's Day and the waiter was extremely friendly and helpful being as this was out first time there. Having a booth to ourselves was also a plus which lessened the noise and added to the romantic side. We will return soon."

  • "I have been to the Melting Pot several times. Overall this past experience was great. The bar seemed to be out of several types of vodkas and beers, however, our server finally told the bar that it was unacceptable and they gave us a beer on the house. Also, by checking in on Facebook, everyone at our table was given complimentary dessert wine. Our server was great with being able to help us pick all of the foods that we liked. Overall, I would go back there."

  • "Waiter forgot to turn burners on for the entree so we waited about 10 minutes with the meats not cooking until finally realizing something must not be right. The cheese fondues and the dessert fondues are great. The main entrees aren't that special. I would save the money and just go for the cheese and dessert."

  • "This was our first time there and we really enjoyed it. The kids had a great time. It was a very long dinner. I was a little surprised at how little the actual main meal portions were though. I found it rather pricey as well but overall the food was good. Our waiter was wonderful!"

  • "A bit pricey, but delicious and certainly a novel experience, even after having been here a few times. Waiter was fantastic and very knowledgable, and the ambiance was fantastic. Made for a great date."

  • "The food was good, but strongly over priced considering none of it is cooked by the chefs. It's fun as a one time event, for a special occasion; however, there are a lot of much more highly regarded restaurants one could eat at for the same price."
    Dined on 11/16/2012
  • "Expensive, but fun for special occasion or with a group. You get to cook your own food, so there's a little collaboration with groups. Service was excellent in that I was told cappuccino machine wasn't working, but manager managed to get me one :). Drinks are pricey in that friends red wine was $14 glass which is a little high. Overall I'd return but for special occasion only"
