Diner Reviews
  • "Service was poor. The waiter disappeared and had to wait over 30 mins just for him to show-up."

  • "We went to the Melting Pot from San Mateo CA to celebrate our 6th wedding anniversary, we were late to our reservation due parking in the area, eventually we found underground parking at the San Mateo Caltrain station which was very convenient since the restaurant is located very close to the platform (yeah, you can hear the trains sometimes but is not an annoyance). Food was good, serving sizes acceptable but still little price for the quality of the food, avoid choosing a +4 items course, choosing seafood and fillet is a better option than a mix of poultry, seafood and meat. If you are not familiar with fondue you might want to consider going to a place where you don't have to cook the food or waiting a long time."

  • "Not enough food, left hungry. Lacking vegetables and potatoes (3 quartered pieces of potato for 6 people)???"

  • "I'm cooking my own meats, we're eating cheese and bread. It still takes 3+ hrs??? This place needs to get over it's old idea of being a "romantic" place to eat. It's not, it has no ambiance whatsoever. Cheese is good, but even the bread isn't special. It's a 3 star ehhh at best.... We won't be back, plenty if other places that offer fondue ad it's better."

  • "Bottle of cab was extremely warm. Waiters solution was a wine chiller which didn't help much. Croutons were soggy (dressing ordered on the side). Spinach and cheese fondue was tasty. Pieces of bread provides we're mostly very stale and only a small amount of veggies were provided. After dinner port was also very warm. I took one sip and didn't want anymore. Not sure if it was a fluke day there or not but I will probably not return that location."

  • "We were seated in the upstairs in a corner of the restaurant. We felt ignored by the waiter. We tried to tell the waiter that we were in a rush, but waited a very long time for food to come out. We had to skip dessert because it was taking so long."

  • "My gf and I are celebrating Chinese Valentine's Day there on a Saturday. The couple seats were cozy and romantic more than I expected. The melting pot fodue concept was unique and my first experience. You spend a little more for the food, service and atmosphere and it is worthwhile to me."

  • "This is a good spot if you want fondue.. The main course is almost not required -- we always think we should just get the cheese and chocolate."

  • "Great service. Next to the cal train station. Romantic but you do smell food after dinner.."

  • "We were here for my brothers 17th birthday, there was 5 of us and the service was really slow. people who had came in after us where serviced before us. Our waiter was good and helpful regarding the food. The cheese fondue and the dessert Fondue was AMAZING but the whole cook your own entrée was a little...well if I wanted to cook my own meal I would have stayed home, sorry guys I hadn't been here before and those that recommended it did not advise me of the cook your own rule... otherwise overall 3.5 stars may go by for some cheese fondue and dessert and figure something else out regarding entrée."

  • "The dinner was a treat for my daughter who loves fondue. The hostesses were very courteous. We were sat at a table next to the kitchen service door. We order two 4-course dinner with a flight of wine to share. The server explained very briefly and spoke very fast. Service time was good but food were very salty and over seasoned which made all the ingredients, i.e., beef, pork, chicken, seafood, etc. tasted almost the same. The server completed missed the timing of serving our wine. The dinner averaged to over $70 per person which in my opinion did not worth the mediocre service and below average food quality. Unless you really want to try fondue & don't mind paying a lot, I would not recommend The Melting Pot."

  • "This place may be good for happy hour after work while waiting to catch the train home, but it wasn't anything special...basically glorified hot pot. The service is great, don't get me wrong. The manager came out to greet us and ask about how our food was twice throughout the experience. Our waitress was attentive and carefully explained everything so we knew what to expect. Food came out in a timely manner and was good. However, it's just not my cup of tea. I was expecting fancy food, but it wasn't that great. I felt like I was eating samplers instead of meals. Shrimp was a little fishy to me, and the food was just bland, despite the broth we cooked it in. Meh, nice to try once I guess, but I won't be coming back."

  • "I went to the melting pot for my birthday a few days ago and my friends and I loved it. All the waiters and waitresses are very outgoing and friendly. The food is absolutely delicious. I recommend getting the 4 course experience because all the food tastes so good! Just a warning, your visit there may take 2.5 hours like mine but it's well worth it."

  • "You can never go wrong with the spinach and artichoke dip appetizer. Of course, dessert is good no matter what you get as well, I mean I don't usually like chocolate but I do like dipping items in it for dessert! The main course was decent. I must give credit to our waiter. He had us (my wife, 2 y/o daughter and me), an energetic table with young kids and was the manager. The other table was quite loud with hyper kids under 5 and I think he handled this and the distractions quite well. He made some very small mistakes with our order because of being distracted but he was attentive to getting them fixed. I would go back but only for a special occasion because of the price for what you get."

  • "We count on the Melting Pot to provide great food and service. It is our go to spot for special occasions. We just celebrated a close friends 60th birthday and once again were not disappointed. Fondue is such a great way to enjoy a relaxing dinner with friends and family. The melting pot does fondue better than any restaurant. Thanks again for another memorable evening."

  • "This was an OK experience. Food was not mind-blowing. I feel like they are just capitalizing on the novelty of fondue. My wife and I ordered the 4-course since it would have ended up being the same price as the 3-course. We both felt it was overpriced for too much food. The best part was the dessert, but if I never had the cheese or entree fondue again in my life, I wouldn't really be upset about it."

  • "Wonderful selection on the menu. I like that you can just go for cheese fondue or do a extravagant dinner. Thank you for a lovely birthday!"
    Dined on 7/4/2014
  • "First, the place is fun. Take the kids once a year for dad's birthday and they have a great time...however, for regular dining, really not worth what you get...our bill was almost $300 when you add tip (2 adults, 4 kids), and it amounted to a hunk of cheese, a slice of bread, apple, salad, 1 steak, few shrimp and a chocolate bar with Rice Krispie squares and some marshmallows! I bet the whole meal for 6 people didn't cost $20... So, good to go for a change but expect to pay a LOT for a little novelty!"

  • "I always kept an eye on this place, but I did not want to spend a lot of money for just a dinner out. So I decided to treat my boyfriend of 2 years here for his 21st birthday. We did the 4 course meal and took 3 nice long hours to enjoy our meal. Will definitely come here again for another special occasion in the future."

  • "I was thoroughly pleased with the variety and the amount of food we had. The cheese fondue was very yummy. The main courses were very large with lots of choices. The deserts were the topper. The service staff was extremely friendly and attentive. Great food. Great service. I would definitely go there again."

  • "We went here for my sister's birthday and when she opened the menu there was a Happy Birthday card that all there servers signed. The food was great and my sister was blown away on how much time we were there when she checked her phone. It is intamate, the lighting is dimmed and the noise is quiet as well. Its a tradition with my solider to come here and I knew it'd be a great place to take my sister for time of bonding."

  • "Fondue is a great experience. Whether you're quietly with your favorite person or energetically with a larger group, the food and setting will help. The servers are all great and willing to help you out and go the extra mile."

  • "This is the second time we have hosted a special occasion at The Melting Pot. As per the first time, the food was outstanding. This time however, our service was very slow, and often times it seemed like we had been forgotten. The entire experience lasted 4 hours, which was one hour too long. Our Server was pleasant but not attentive. Overall I would still highly recommend the restaurant."

  • "Kristen our server was spot on since the moment we sat down. She went above and beyond for my friend who could be somewhat "high maintenance:, so THANK YOU! The drinks were refreshing and complimented the choice of entrees we each chose. I love the changes made to the menu, since it allowed each of us to create our own meal. Lots of food, so definitely go with an appetite!"

  • "This place must be on it's last leg... There's no way they will stay in business for long if they don't make some huge improvements, and fast! Everything was of very poor quality."

  • "I took my Aunt for her 80th Birthday Dinner. We chose the 4 course meal. First course was a fantastic cheese fondue with French bread, assorted veggies and apples. Next we each had a tasty salad-hers was a spinach and mine a ceasar. Our third course was the entre-my Aunt chose the combination of beef, chicken and prawns and I chose the all beef selection. Lastly, we had the dark chocolate fondue which was served with fresh fruit, brownie bites, graham cracker rolled marshmallows, oreo rolled marshmallows and sponge cake. Everything was delicious, delicious, delicious and delicious! Service was outstanding. We can't wait to go again."

  • "My wife & I had gone to the area for some classes. The night we arrived, we had no idea what to do for dinner. I remembered that she had been wanting to try Melting Pot, it was a bit out of our price range for it not being a "date night" but I figured "what the hell", we dont come to the area often so why not take advantage. We had a late-ish reservation @ 830, and it takes a couple hours to eat. The dinner was awesome & we had a great time! The only problem we had was towards the end of our meal when they began cleaning the kitchen. The wonderful smells of the food cooking at our table was overrrun by the smell and sounds of the workers cleaning the kitchen. That is the only reason its not a 4 or 5 star review..."

  • "I've been to the Melting Pot many times over the past 5 years and everytime the experience has been amazing. Sunday night (6/1) we made a late reservation (9:30pm) , they closed at 10, but the staff was gracious enough to let us order a full dinner even though they were closing soon! The waiter and the entire staff was very accommodating and the food was delicious as always! I will always come back to this place."

  • "This has to be the most confusing menu and 5-star prices for 1-star food. The entree items begin at $25 pp (no sides) which are basically meat/poultry/seafood boiled in broth at your table. And to make matters worse, you cook the dipped items yourself, so it is a lot of work to keep track of how many minutes each item requires. The least-expensive Chardonnay wine is $44 a bottle . . . ridiculous. If we had just skipped the entrees and eaten the appetizer cheese fondue and dessert, this would have been a much better dining experience. The chocolate fondue and dippings are outstanding . . . I would only go back for that. Our server was attentive; however, he didn't do a good job explaining the menu and how the entrees are prepared. "

  • "I loved this place. My boyfriend and I were there to celebrate our anniversary and it was very romantic. The food was great and the overall feel was awesome. Our server Tara was great. She was extremely friendly and took good care of us. Without a doubt my new favorite place!"

  • "Fondue is fun! My husband and I had a great time playing with our fondue food! We enjoyed the 4 course fondue menu which came with a great variety of dippers....with the cheddar (smooth and classic), the sizzling oil for our beef and lobster (mmmmm..) and then chocolate with peanut butter (decadent!). Service was top-notch...our server did a great job educating us about the process and was fun, sharp and professional. It made for a great date night for us!"

  • "Melting Pot is interesting dining experience but I would not rate it highly in terms of food quality or service and the passing trains can derail the whole experience. The pricing is very high considering you're cooking it yourself and you're choices are hindered by the size of your group. For example, we had a table for 10, thus had only two burners available to us; that limited all 10 people to agree and choose two cheeses and two cooking styles. I ordered the classic - which included chicken/shrimp/pork/teriyaki beef/pepper beef. I wasn't impressed with the flavor after cooking any of those in either the Mojo or the Bourginion (sp?). The cheese quality left me wondering on the quality as well. "
