  • "We count on the Melting Pot to provide great food and service. It is our go to spot for special occasions. We just celebrated a close friends 60th birthday and once again were not disappointed. Fondue is such a great way to enjoy a relaxing dinner with friends and family. The melting pot does fondue better than any restaurant. Thanks again for another memorable evening."

  • "My companion had never had fondue, and this was an amazing experience and introduction to a delicious world for her."

  • "This was an OK experience. Food was not mind-blowing. I feel like they are just capitalizing on the novelty of fondue. My wife and I ordered the 4-course since it would have ended up being the same price as the 3-course. We both felt it was overpriced for too much food. The best part was the dessert, but if I never had the cheese or entree fondue again in my life, I wouldn't really be upset about it."

  • "Wonderful selection on the menu. I like that you can just go for cheese fondue or do a extravagant dinner. Thank you for a lovely birthday!"

  • "First, the place is fun. Take the kids once a year for dad's birthday and they have a great time...however, for regular dining, really not worth what you get...our bill was almost $300 when you add tip (2 adults, 4 kids), and it amounted to a hunk of cheese, a slice of bread, apple, salad, 1 steak, few shrimp and a chocolate bar with Rice Krispie squares and some marshmallows! I bet the whole meal for 6 people didn't cost $20... So, good to go for a change but expect to pay a LOT for a little novelty!"

  • "I always kept an eye on this place, but I did not want to spend a lot of money for just a dinner out. So I decided to treat my boyfriend of 2 years here for his 21st birthday. We did the 4 course meal and took 3 nice long hours to enjoy our meal. Will definitely come here again for another special occasion in the future."

  • "I was thoroughly pleased with the variety and the amount of food we had. The cheese fondue was very yummy. The main courses were very large with lots of choices. The deserts were the topper. The service staff was extremely friendly and attentive. Great food. Great service. I would definitely go there again."

  • "We went here for my sister's birthday and when she opened the menu there was a Happy Birthday card that all there servers signed. The food was great and my sister was blown away on how much time we were there when she checked her phone. It is intamate, the lighting is dimmed and the noise is quiet as well. Its a tradition with my solider to come here and I knew it'd be a great place to take my sister for time of bonding."

  • "The food was delicious and the dessert fondue was divine. Secluded booth for two to really up the romance. Excellent service but don't arrive starving! There are smaller bites for more making out!"

  • "Fondue is a great experience. Whether you're quietly with your favorite person or energetically with a larger group, the food and setting will help. The servers are all great and willing to help you out and go the extra mile."

  • "This is the second time we have hosted a special occasion at The Melting Pot. As per the first time, the food was outstanding. This time however, our service was very slow, and often times it seemed like we had been forgotten. The entire experience lasted 4 hours, which was one hour too long. Our Server was pleasant but not attentive. Overall I would still highly recommend the restaurant."

  • "Kristen our server was spot on since the moment we sat down. She went above and beyond for my friend who could be somewhat "high maintenance:, so THANK YOU! The drinks were refreshing and complimented the choice of entrees we each chose. I love the changes made to the menu, since it allowed each of us to create our own meal. Lots of food, so definitely go with an appetite!"

  • "This place must be on it's last leg... There's no way they will stay in business for long if they don't make some huge improvements, and fast! Everything was of very poor quality."

  • "I took my Aunt for her 80th Birthday Dinner. We chose the 4 course meal. First course was a fantastic cheese fondue with French bread, assorted veggies and apples. Next we each had a tasty salad-hers was a spinach and mine a ceasar. Our third course was the entre-my Aunt chose the combination of beef, chicken and prawns and I chose the all beef selection. Lastly, we had the dark chocolate fondue which was served with fresh fruit, brownie bites, graham cracker rolled marshmallows, oreo rolled marshmallows and sponge cake. Everything was delicious, delicious, delicious and delicious! Service was outstanding. We can't wait to go again."

  • "My wife & I had gone to the area for some classes. The night we arrived, we had no idea what to do for dinner. I remembered that she had been wanting to try Melting Pot, it was a bit out of our price range for it not being a "date night" but I figured "what the hell", we dont come to the area often so why not take advantage. We had a late-ish reservation @ 830, and it takes a couple hours to eat. The dinner was awesome & we had a great time! The only problem we had was towards the end of our meal when they began cleaning the kitchen. The wonderful smells of the food cooking at our table was overrrun by the smell and sounds of the workers cleaning the kitchen. That is the only reason its not a 4 or 5 star review..."

  • "I've been to the Melting Pot many times over the past 5 years and everytime the experience has been amazing. Sunday night (6/1) we made a late reservation (9:30pm) , they closed at 10, but the staff was gracious enough to let us order a full dinner even though they were closing soon! The waiter and the entire staff was very accommodating and the food was delicious as always! I will always come back to this place."

  • "This has to be the most confusing menu and 5-star prices for 1-star food. The entree items begin at $25 pp (no sides) which are basically meat/poultry/seafood boiled in broth at your table. And to make matters worse, you cook the dipped items yourself, so it is a lot of work to keep track of how many minutes each item requires. The least-expensive Chardonnay wine is $44 a bottle . . . ridiculous. If we had just skipped the entrees and eaten the appetizer cheese fondue and dessert, this would have been a much better dining experience. The chocolate fondue and dippings are outstanding . . . I would only go back for that. Our server was attentive; however, he didn't do a good job explaining the menu and how the entrees are prepared. "

  • "I loved this place. My boyfriend and I were there to celebrate our anniversary and it was very romantic. The food was great and the overall feel was awesome. Our server Tara was great. She was extremely friendly and took good care of us. Without a doubt my new favorite place!"

  • "Fondue is fun! My husband and I had a great time playing with our fondue food! We enjoyed the 4 course fondue menu which came with a great variety of dippers....with the cheddar (smooth and classic), the sizzling oil for our beef and lobster (mmmmm..) and then chocolate with peanut butter (decadent!). Service was top-notch...our server did a great job educating us about the process and was fun, sharp and professional. It made for a great date night for us!"

  • "Melting Pot is interesting dining experience but I would not rate it highly in terms of food quality or service and the passing trains can derail the whole experience. The pricing is very high considering you're cooking it yourself and you're choices are hindered by the size of your group. For example, we had a table for 10, thus had only two burners available to us; that limited all 10 people to agree and choose two cheeses and two cooking styles. I ordered the classic - which included chicken/shrimp/pork/teriyaki beef/pepper beef. I wasn't impressed with the flavor after cooking any of those in either the Mojo or the Bourginion (sp?). The cheese quality left me wondering on the quality as well. "

  • "The fondue experience is great. Cheese, meat, then chocolate, yum. My big issue with the Melting Pot is that the quality of the ingredients fits a chain restaurant. Do not expect a nice organic/ grass-fed/ tender steak, and their special seasoning is filled with chemicals. The location of this spot is the old train station, so you're looking at the parking lot outside the windows and hearing the train go by every 20 minutes; it's a little weird. We went here for our anniversary because we liked the Larkspur one in the past, but I wish we hadn't. Maybe I'm too much of a foodie now, but I was a bit embarrassed to say this was where we were going out. For the price, I would have expected better; we could have done a nice place in the city. "

  • "Went there for our anniversary after spending time in Downtown San Mateo. Never had been there before [bought a deal off Living Social but didn't get to use it in time]. We were the first ones there, then they placed the next people to come right next to us, so the expectation of having romance and romantic conversations went right out the window, because the people were loud and obnoxious, and no common sense to be quiet. Our server was nice, but we still didn't understand why we spent as much as we did after spending so much on the Deal. It still costs us about $100! So this place isn't for a cheap meal. All in all, it was fun, a once in a life time experience."

  • "It's an interesting place, with a unique layout to the tables to enhance the privacy for each group or booth. The bar seems well stocked and good ambiance. The food involves minimal self-preparation, which adds conversation to a dinner date, family or friends meet-up. That being said, the end-result is pretty safe and subdued flavoured food. The cocktails are nothing to write home about either. So, are you up for some raw broccoli dipped in cheddar? How about some overcooked piece of nondescript beef dipped in your choice of mayo or sweet/sour sauce? Want to show the kids how shrimp turns from grey to orange as you cook it in bland broth? Head over there then!"

  • "Our waitress was superb. The food was delightful, but we found the portions have been getting a little smaller than previously. We ran out of cheese to dip in before we ran out of ingredients to dip, but everything was delicious! It was a great place to celebrate my birthday with my daughter."

  • "We have been to the larkspur location and the ambiance is very different. San Mateo is kind of average where Larkspur is unique. The food was consistently tasty at both locations."

  • "You always know what you are getting when you go to the Melting Pot for dinner...a yummy and interactive dining experience! The various fondues are always updated with new choices and the dipping selections are varied enough to cover most people's desires. We find that cheese and chocolate fondue with a salad is plenty filling and the cost, with 1 drink each will be about $80. Not too shabby for two people. Add to that the great service and you have a winning dining spot year round!"

  • "The salad quality could be improved. Salad was wet and lettuce were not fresh. The dessert portion should have more per serving."

  • "Had a nice quite dinner for two the other night. Because of the nature of having fondue, you are not rushed. You can sit back and enjoy dinner without feeling as though the waiter is trying to turn over the table. We had a nice quite spot - kind of a nook for two. Although it did feel a little claustrophobic. From the cheese fondue,steak/chicken/shrimp/lobster, and chocolate dessert - everything was amazing. Our waiter was attentive and had a great sense of humor but he was not intrusive. He came in delivered the course and left. I do wish he slowed down a bit when telling us the cook times for steak, chicken, shrimp…. maybe it could be a laminated card at the table to help those of us who forget easily."

  • "pricey for the food portion and quality I received. fondue sauce tasted only okay. Meat quality average."
    Dined on 3/29/2014
  • "Food was wonderful, and well worth the price. The service was outstanding. Only issue is that it *is* in a train station and you will occasionally hear a train go by if you're on the side of the restaurant that faces the tracks."
    Dined on 3/25/2014
  • "Don't waste your time or money at this place. The hostess didn't greet us, then sat us in a horrible seat followed by another horrible seat. The waitress got every order wrong and the food was terrible. This might be a nice place for a high school date while kids dabble in "fine" dining but if you work hard for your money, it will be wasted here. The Groupon deal isn't just the $89 - it's also the mandatory 15% gratuity and any upgrades you get which won't be served to you anyway since the waitress will forget every order. Don't get me started on the music that was blasting the whole time either. Super inappropriate lay me down by the fire R&B at a high volumes while we sit next to a kid celebrating their birthday."
