Diner Reviews
  • "The food was amazing, and my 9-year-old had a blast. The weird thing was the restaurant was mostly empty, but they still made us wait 15 minutes for our reservation time. But when we finally got our table, our server, Jerry, was awesome! He accommodated all our special requests, including for extra veggies. :)"

  • "We wanted a quiet, romantic place for our anniversary dinner and we found it in The Melting Pot. We asked for and received a private table and it was perfect. The service was excellent--the waiter met our every need without being annoying or intrusive. We would highly recommend this place!"

  • "We generally consider ourselves "foodies" so this was an odd choice and a spontaneous dinner pick. With that in mind, we really enjoyed the food. Everything was tasty and fresh as it arrived. We had a fun evening playing with the fondu pot. It was possibly the best service we've had in years. Amazingly attentive staff. My biggest complaint would be the interior. While clean and well maintained, it felt like it hadn't been updated since the '90s."

  • "I had heard many good things about the Melting Pot so a friend and I decided to try it out. Or server was very inattentive and said maybe two words to us. He was not very good at explaining how the process worked and seemed very pushy. I am a huge cheese fan but our cheese fondue was horrible. It tasted like straight beer and cheap cheese. The dessert was delicious but that was the only good part of the meal. I'm not sure if I'll ever go back but if I do it'll just be for dessert."

  • "Great service! Jeff, our waiter was fabulous. We even had 2 managers ask us how our experience was!"

  • "We really enjoyed our dinner! The cheese and dessert fondues are the best!"

  • "Everything was great and we will definitely go back. We would personally only have the cheese and chocolate fondue because it was more appetizing to us but overall it was a great experience."

  • "The Five of us enjoyed the experience as this was our second time at the Portland, OR Melting Pot and our Daughters 38th Birthday. We also had our Five year old Grand Daughter who thought it was great and the service was excellent."

  • "Great place for a special occasion or romantic dinner. Not a good place for small children. My wife and I celebrated our anniversary with a great meal, superb service and an overall great great time."

  • "Only been a couple times, but worth the money and time to take someone special."

  • "Had an absolutely wonderful dinner with my wife and an East Coast friend. Started with a great recommendation on wine and then the 4 course meal. Absolutely loved every bite. Our waiter was awesome and the whole evening was fun and relaxing."

  • "Me... Not so much. The food is great, I'll give them that. Just ask the staff. They will tell you how great it is, and how your uneducated pallet doesn't know what you really like. At least they're not condescending when they tell you that selection you're interested in isn't as good as the four course meal deal you don't want or that the wine you want to drink with your meal isn't as good as what they want you to have. But, when the conversation reaches a lull at the table, you can always stare at the food covered walls. When my wife left the booth for a moment, I used my napkin to wipe the booth down. Did I mention that the food was good? How can you go wrong? You pay 5 star prices to cook it yourself!"

  • "We brought our kids here to celebrate their report cards. Our waiter, I think his name is Jerry, made the whole experience awesome. The food was fantastic and everyone had a great time. My son asked if I would tip our server 50% because he liked him so much. I wish I could have. We had a coupon for chocolate covered strawberries for joining club fondue and they were amazing. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone."

  • "I and a good friend dined at The Melting Pot to celebrate her birthday. My guest had never had fondue, so it was a major hit. Food is good, pace is slow and comfortable, service great and the originality of the menu made it a great food experience. Be prepared to spend some money! Dinner for two with drinks and one glass of wine each came to 180.00."

  • "This place is so difficult to get into, but absolutely worth it! My 4 1/2 year old really enjoyed it, and so did we. Food was delicious, and the service was excellent. We can't wait to go back with the rest of the family!!"

  • "I think that it is imperative to have quality customer service in a world with so many bitter people. As soon as I walked into The Melting Pot - people were attentive and friendly. I thoroughly enjoyed talking with each employees. We never had fondue and were extremely excited about the cheese. It was pretty darn good. My one recommendation would be to have more options for vegetables for dipping. I thought that the costco pack cut celery, carrot and tomato was, while tasty, unimpressive. I guess that's a melting pot thing but it would be cool to have choices of veggies and be able to have a full cooked vegetable list for the cheese fondue if anything at an extra cost."

  • "Our daughter wanted to go to the Melting Pot for her high school graduation dinner. She, and her brother, loved it from the moment we stepped in the door to when we left. 2 days later they are still talking about it. The food selection was great and they even had a gluten free menu for my wife. Jeff, our server, was attentive and made the evening a special occasion. We came away with full stomachs, smiling faces and a fun memory."

  • "Overall a good restaurant for a special occasion. The service was excellent. The food was average. You're paying for the experience not the food. It's a fun experience. Especially cooking your own meat in the pot!"

  • "Melting Pot, as a fondue restaurant, has a limited repertoire, but they do that one thing well. On the whole, the food was good, the dessert amazing, but prices were very, very high for what you get. Essentially, they prepare a cheese fondue for a starter, then provide cut-up cuts of meats and vegetables for the main course, with hot cooking liquids. Six sauces are provided. All is good, but again, you pay for it."

  • "We had a wonderful time celebrating Father's Day at the Melting Pot. The food was delicious and so much fun. Our nine and seven year old daughters had a blast and we appreciated that there was a kid sized meat portion for them."

  • "This is the restaurant we come to for special celebrations. We also always come here when we attend a function at Keller. The food is always superb. The service is always impeccable. Waiters are very personable and enjoy their jobs. We just have to create another special reason for going to the Melting Pot!!!"

  • "Went for an anniversary with another couple and although the service was good and they had nice touches (picture of the couple's with commemorative glasses with paid champagne) the food was overpriced for the quality. Go for the experience, not for the food."

  • "Let me just say, this is my first review ever because I have never found any worth it to take out of my day to review. But we were wowed by our fantastic waiter for the night, Jeff(rey). We both kept saying afterwards that he was the best waiter we had ever had, especially at the Melting Pot (previously, we had to wait 30 minutes for a water refill). The food is fantastic and very rich. Perfect anniversary atmosphere. However, please, if you have young children that yell, do NOT bring them along. Entirely ruins the atmosphere that is otherwise very romantic and nice. They would have absolutely ruined our anniversary from their obnoxious behavior had our waiter not been fantastic. Basically, request him and tip well! He deserves it!!"

  • "I've gone to this specific restaurant once a year for the past few years and every time my wife and I have a great experience. The food is delicious, and eating there becomes more like a fun activity that a simple dinner. The staff is personable, friendly and helpful: I get the impression that the individuals there enjoy their work even though it can get stressful, and they want the patrons to have a nice time. I recommend all "The Melting Pot" restaurants, but specifically the location in Portland, OR to anyone and everyone. (On a side note, the location in Cincinnati, OH is also wonderful)."

  • "The service was outstanding! The manager came over and took out order and was very friendly. When we arrived my girlfriend asked for a certain booth that had a little divider and the hostess said they were booked. Once we sat down she came back and said one became available if we wanted it. That was awesome. When we ordered the cheese fondue was amazing! We loved it. The main course was lacking. I wasn't impressed. But the chocolate fondue was to die for! But overall the service was great, but I don't think food was worth what we paid."

  • "We were a party of 4 and I ordered 3 dinners and a salad for myself. I told the waiter I was not taking part in the 3 course dinner and yet when I received the bill it included a fourth dinner. I pointed out that I hadnt ordered a dinner and he said, "I proportioned it for 4." He then left and returned with a nee bill, looking obviously annoyed he left and we did not see him again. I didn't appreciate feeling incomfortable during that whole exchange. I also feel it's in very bad taste to include on the receipt already computed tip amounts from 15-25% "For your convenience." Tipping is optional and I don't appreciate not only feeling it's a requirement but that It's understood I will tip much more than what is customary. "

  • "Fondue as a concept is kind of fun, but charging us significantly more for prepped raw ingredients *and* making us cook it ourselves is hard to swallow. A couple of points of comparison: 1. I have some family in the Atlanta area, and the same 4-course entrees at the Atlanta location cost $12 less than they cost in Portland. Why?!? For a full meal for two, my wife and I probably spent $30-40 more than we would have paid in Atlanta. 2. For the same $180 we spent on four cocktails ($10 each), two 4-course entrees ($55 each), and generous tip (the service *was* very attentive!), we could have had a FANTASTICALLY elegant, fully prepared meal plus drinks for two at a great restaurant in Portland (e.g., Little Bird, just a few blocks away)."

  • "this was our first time at the Melting Pot - we are still talking about it! We had the 4 course dinner and everything we ordered was wonderful. We would love to eat there again. It was our anniversary and we were given a card which was really appreciated and thoughtful. Our server Paul was excellent. Very knowledgeable and helpful but did not hover. My only problem was that our table was so dark we had a problem reading the menu and it was very very pricey. It would have to remain a special occasion place only."

  • "The service was excellent as the server explained each course and how the food should be cooked. The draw-back was the price - very expensive! Due to the expense we will not return in the future. "
