A word from The Med at La Valencia Hotel
La Valencia’s signature “Great Room” restaurant reminiscent of a villa overlooking the Mediterranean Sea - this tile frescoed dining room with a grand fireplace is flanked by French doors to a sunny garden patio and canopied trellis arbor and by expansive windows framing the coastline and surf of
the Pacific Ocean and Scripps Park. With its 7th floor terrace, adjacent to La V’s signature La Sala Lounge, The MED features al fresco ocean dining overlooking La V’s colorful gardens, sparkling pool and scenic coastline.
New American cuisine takes prized inspiration from the melting pot of American culture and diversity. Executive Chef Daniel Barron uses inspiring preparations and techniques to prepare the fresh and abundant bounty found in California’s farms rich with sustainable and organic providers. The seasonal fare is a captivating collection of familiar and unfamiliar dishes with unexpected ingredients served against the backdrop of the California coastline.

We had a very nice experience at
la Valencia. The Sunday brunch was excellent. The staff was nice, too. We arrived 30 min earlier but had no difficulty."

We had breakfast after Valentine's
Day. Had terrace seating with its fabulous view of shoreline. Chicken-apple-sausage (maybe locally made?) was excellent, lightly herbed and not overly spiced. Staff was attentive but not intrusive, and handled an unforunately belligerent customer with grace. We'll go back!"

We were staying at La Valencia and
wanted a romantic dinner. La Mer was an excellent choice."

We had drinks and appetizers in
the lounge at La Valencia. I recommend you stay there and not go to the restaurant. The food and the service are quite good but we had a very strange experience with the host. First, he tried to seat us in an empty restaurant! We asked where all the people were and he said everyone had left (apparently at the same time!) but that others were expected. Liar! We finally got him to move us to the outdoor patio but we also had to ask again to switch tables because he put us as far from a heater as possible. So in spite of him setting the mood so poorly, we managed to have a nice evening. However, I would just stay at the lounge where this guy is not! So odd!"

The Med is SO much better than you
would expect a hotel restaurant to be. Great service, our waiter Steven was exceptional. Good food, traditional brunch dishes were tweaked to provide interest and were well prepared."
Dined on 1/2/2014
Went here for breakfast. Typical
breakfast fare. The view from the balcony is very nice."
Dined on 1/3/2014
Old friends reuniting over a late
breakfast - the perfect spot. A great view, fabulous food and our servers let us talk and talk and always appeared at just the right time to take our order or provide more coffee."

Having brunch at the La Valencia
is surely a most delightful way to begin the New Year! Each dish was more than delicious - When we thought it couldn't get any better - the Lobster bisque was served and oh brother - hang a star on that one as they say!"
Dined on 1/1/2014
Sadly, the service we received was
horrendous. Our original waiter disappeared, our order was incorrect and the remaining staff ignored our table. Will never eat here again."
Dined on 12/23/2013
I have eaten at La Valencia
numerous times. The food, including dessert was marginal. I will not be returning and it was my favorite San Diego restaurant. Overpriced considering the quality of the food."

For our holiday dinner at The Med
we arrived early to enjoy a cocktail in the lobby bar, complete with a real-life lounge singer. Very talented and seeking requests. Sound was perfect and we could hear ourselves talk. Moved to The Med for dinner and were seated in front of the fireplace. It pays to book early via Open Table for extra special touches. Warm and cozy and at a round table perfect for conversation. Starter was beet salad. Sooo good I could have eaten two. The filet mignon was melt in your mouth perfect. Scallops were a small portion, but very good. Chocolate chip bread pudding was plenty for 3 light eaters to share. Service was attentive, yet not pushy. They let us linger. We'll be back for summer dining al fresco in The Med."

The food was fantastic but the
portions were out of control. They could, and should, be scaled down greatly. We opted for the a la carte option (1 entree and 1 side) and it was more than enough for 2 people (ie: too much). Had we opted for the brunch (1 starter, 1 entree, a pastry, and dessert), we would have been overwhelmed and the quality of the food would have gotten lost in the enormity of the portions. The view is fantastic when dining on the outdoor patio."

I stayed La Valancia on 12/07 for
a night and had a dinner with my wife for our anniversary. However, the restaurant is too noisy for the party for over 30 people and my table was just next to the kitchen. I disappointed this situation very much. If you have dinner party. you should tell me when I made reservation. I believed the La Vaencia is first class 5 Star hotel in Sandiego area but I will not come back again."

The food, the view, the service -
A+. I have been dining here for many, many years, and it is always a memorable meal."
Dined on 11/9/2013
one of the great sunday brunch
spots, ahh the dessert buffet, and what a view!!!"
Dined on 4/14/2013
Overall a good experience. They
were a little short on waitresses and so a little slow on service. The online site did not really explain that the Oceanview Room was an outside patio experience. We were able to switch to an indoor restaurant called The Med Room. A little too cool for outside right now. That needs to be better noted in the write-up. Food was good."
Dined on 10/13/2013
The scallops and salmon were
excellent, but two steaks were definitely over cooked. The olive oil cake was over baked and dry, the drinks exceptionally expensive, and the service slow and inefficient. For years, The La Valencia has been one of our favorites, but we won't be going back any time soon."
Dined on 10/13/2013
My thanks to Jeff and staff for
allowing us a special reunion of cousins from San Diego and Australia! We could not have felt more indulged and, as the last to leave, we so appreciate the ability to have had the time to linger, laugh and enjoy such special ambiance. Jeff' went out of his way to accommodate a memorable evening for my family, our friendly and capable waitress was superb. The menu was varied and the food outstanding - salmon was delicious, filet mignon cooked to perfection."

We selected the Mediterranean
because we had out of town guests and wanted to have a quiet place for conversation. We could not have had a better environment - nice round table for 5 next to a lovely fireplace. The dining room was surprisingly empty on a Thursday evening, especially with such a nice menu and excellent service. The bar was packed and lively. Two of our guests were vegetarians and there were several good choices. The lobster bisque was fabulous, also the scallops. All dishes were beautifully presented and the wine lise was excellent and well priced. We had a great time and would definitely come back."
Dined on 9/27/2013
Service couldn't have been
better! Food was great up to the desserts. Quite a let down for 2 of 3, but the Crème Brulee was wonderful."
Dined on 9/16/2013
Service was outstanding and
sitting outside overlooking the ocean view was relaxing and private. The appetizer of crab cake was so small I really couldn't ever share a bite! The beef entree was delicious but more than enough for 2. I was looking forward to the Oreo cheesecake but it was no bigger than a cake pop. My friend did better with delicious and ample Brussels sprouts appetizer, great salmon, and creme brulle. Wine was same price for 1drink as for equal in a bottle. I would go back and order off the regular menu next time but it was a nice experience!"

We visited 6 restaurants this week
and this was the BEST Restaurant Week menu provided! So many choices and such great choices!"
Dined on 9/19/2013
Our dining experience was lovely.
There was a classical pianist playing all evening, the maitre d gave us an additional appetizer to try compliments of the house which was very nice. Service was good, atmosphere was very pleasant outside overlooking the La Jolla Cove."
Dined on 9/16/2013
View is spectacular, but the lunch
wasn't wanting special.. I got the cubano sandwich ate a few bite, but didn't finish it. It was just blah"
Dined on 9/2/2013
The huevos rancheros were about
the best I've had."
Dined on 8/16/2013
there is some major construction
going on at the hotel . It really detracts from the restaurant ambiance. In fact we were 2 of the only people dining at the restaurant. The food was good but there was not much selection on the menu. I would return to La Valencia until they are done remodeling."
Dined on 7/18/2013
Never disappoints. Best view in La
Jolla, great food and extraordinary service."
Dined on 7/15/2013
Endless ocean view and great food.
Always try to sit at the very end table on the terrace. My favorite place in all of San Diego."
Dined on 7/12/2013
Beautiful scenery often comes with
lackluster service or cuisine. Not so here. Everything was terrific, especially the paella. Will come again soon."
Dined on 7/8/2013
Outstanding lunch over looking the
cove in La Jolla. The English pea soup with dungeness crab was fabulous as wa the lobester salad and the Reuben all washed down with a some nice Foley Chardonnay and some Alsatian Riesling. Great service, great food great view. Not inexpensive but this is a million dollar view."
Dined on 7/4/2013
The food and service were good.
View was outstanding. The dining room was very quiet, which was pleasant, but it was a little sad that there were so few diners. The bar down the hall was hopping."
Dined on 4/13/2013
Really nice food, but the
old-school service is what sets this place apart. George, our waiter, was a great problem-solver, and we were cared for hand-and-foot. Anniversary meal, so we were greeted by champagne and ended with a chocolate torte, both on the house. A wonderful experience."
Dined on 5/26/2013
Currently under construction. So,
it was a bit disorganized, noisy and seemed understaffed. Service was very slow. Food portions were "modest". I had guests visiting from Canada, and they had looked forward to coming to this iconic landmark. So, overall, they the experience did not meet their expectations. I am sure it improve after their remodel."
Dined on 5/22/2013
While the patio is being
renovated, dining on the ocean terrace is somewhat cramped, and service is slow at peak times. We were there for Sunday brunch. Best to go at a quieter time."
Dined on 5/19/2013
We went for mothers day brunch as
we have for several years. This year was truly a disappointment and turned what was becoming a tradition into the last time. The brunch buffet was suitable for a holiday inn. That should say it all. In years past is was worth the pricy $85 per person. this year was a 12.95 version. They should be run out of town!"
Dined on 5/12/2013
Delightful Lunch! Great
experience, excellent view. Food and service exquisit!"
Dined on 5/10/2013
Bad layout, can't watch live music
while eating, only hear a loy of loud noise. The waiter delivered a bread bowl to the table next to us and removed the last peice of bread from the bowl with his hand and put it in their new bowl of bread. Took 20 minutes before we had water on our table. Scallops were very fishy (the took off the bill). The linen napkin that was on my setting looked like it went 12 rounds with a pitbull, I had them bring a new one. The heat lamps outside are more for show as they do not hold back the cold air that blows quite hard on the patio seating area (the closest that you can sit to the music). The steak I ordered was delicious."
Dined on 4/25/2013
The service, cuisine, stunning
view, and attention while dining at The Mediterranean, is a pleasurable experience, not to be missed. Locals and guests are in for a truly luxurious experience. The staffs' attention, makes luncheon a seemingly, effortless bliss."
Dined on 4/25/2013
Always beautiful. Always good
food, well served. Always quite expensive, but worth it for the quintessential old La Jolla experience."
Dined on 4/24/2013
Food was very bad. Almost couldn't
eat it. Chairs in dinning room are falling apart."
