A word from The Marrow
The Marrow is a contemporary American restaurant, located amidst picturesque brownstones and cobblestone streets in the West Village, run by Chef Harold Dieterle and Alicia Nosenzo, owners of nearby Perilla and Kin Shop. The food is inspired by the ethnic heritage of Harold’s parents, reflecting his father’s German ancestry and mother’s Italian lineage. To complement The Marrow’s menu, an extensive, yet approachable beverage program is offered that includes nearly 400 wines, with a strong emphasis on Italian, German, and Austrian producers. Diner Reviews
  • "Saturday brunch in the late afternoon was very calm & quiet - and a lovely reason to village the West Village! To our delight, delish complimentary cookies arrived with the check!"

  • "Sorta off beaten path but well worth it. Spacious dining and prompt service. We had to wait at bar while table readied. Bar quaint but kinda small. Vodka and wine list should be expanded. Overall a hotspot to meetup."

  • "Just ok, not great. I spicy lamb meatball was good. Clams were ok, just ok. Bone marrow was ok, just ok."

  • "My fourth time dining there. They changed the menu (no longer playing up as much their Italian vs. Austrain dishes). They eliminated their pretzel bread -- which was kind of a bummer to be honest. The Service was outstanding and they honored with complete ease my 30% discount code. The Bucatini appetizer was unique and flavorful. The macaroni one was not. The TM burger was out of this world. The duck schnitzel is worth its $30 price tag. Keep the great service; bring back the pretzel bread; and lower your prices by 15% and you'll have 5 stars in my book!"

  • "Four of us had a wonderful meal at this inviting restaurant. Two ordered from the Restaurant Week menu and the other two, a la carte. Every dish we had was delicious and creative starting with corn soup and a gem lettuce salad and finishing with olive oil lemon cake. I look forward to future meals at this delightful restaurant. And as a warning...the meatball is indeed a spicey one."

  • "I was very disappointed by the food. The Butter Lettuce Salad tasted like vinegar, I couldn't even finish it. The Chicken Milanese was essentially fried chicken with a little salad on the side. The desert was ok. Overall it seemed like a cheap menu definitely not worth the $38 we spent."

  • "Fabulous food and service, a must do in NYC! I will definitely be back."

  • "I went to The Marrow during restarurant week, and was very impressed with the service and the food. I loved the blend of European flavors. The mussels were very delcious, and the olive oil cake for dessert was also amazing."

  • "Always like to try new places during restaurant week. This cute little place was one I always passed , so I thought I would try it with my honey. Nice wine list and ambience"excellent" wait staff. But. My chicken milanese seemed flash fried like a kids chicken finger meal with salad on top, salad was yummy, chicken left an after taste reminiscent of fast food My honeys fish dish was nicely done and tasty.A lovely girl in the front of house noticed I didnt care for my chicken asked me why. Dessert time just when i was ready to write this place off it happened I fell in love with their desserts Gingerbread cake with delish ice cream, yogurt Panna cotta and brown sugar olive oil cake Heaven worth coming for dessert, hats off to the pastry chef"

  • "After my corn soup, it all went downhill. Would never go back or recommend the place. Someone 'playing' at serving. Thank goodness for the GM who knew her stuff re: Wine. Great Corn Soup.... after that, boring, pedestrian, sad dinner."

  • "I've wanted to go to The Marrow since reading about all of the fantastic reviews when it opened. Unfortunately, it was a bit out of my price range. When I heard that it was apart of Restaurant Week this year, I called my friends and made a reservation. It was well worth the wait! The food from start to finish was delicious and the staff was very friendly and quick. I would definitely go back and give my recommendation to my friends."

  • "My friend and I really enjoyed this restaurant. The room is lovely with views of tree-lined Village streets. The food tastes far better than its rather plain descriptions - everything is fresh and very tasty and imaginatively prepared. I am a fan of Harold Dieterle and we appreciated his German-Italian menu. Great wines by the glass, but I will say that the pour is a little small. When I mentioned this, the waitress said that it was a large glass with a standard 6 oz. pour. Did not seem like it - when you are paying $15 for a glass of wine, they could be a little freer with the pour. But all in all, a lovely evening with great food."

  • "Been there on a business lunch and loved the neighborhood, close to the office. Outstanding waitress du jour. Menu was varied and the dessert choice for restaurant week.... lemon cake with garnishings... to die for!!!!!! We loved it.......simply said and will be back, no doubt!!!!!!"

  • "Had the restaurant week menu. Main of porgy fish was slimy and bitter, sadly. Panna cotta was good. Mussels eh. Service was a little too much."

  • "Quite dissapointed. Entire party agreed that the food was unrefined and service was way slow."

  • "Lovely setting, bright and airy, green and leafy view onto a quiet Village street. Tables not jammed together inside -- a rarity in New York. Went there for Restaurant Week; regular menu has a lot more choices. Appetizer (corn soup with shrimps) and dessert (olive oil lemon cake) were first rate. Entree (fish with a squid-ink sauce) could have been more flavorful, but was moist and satisfying. Portions are generous. Excellent service. Somewhat noisy but only because a family at a nearby table (6 adults and 1 baby) were really enjoying themselves talking and laughing. The music level is subdued and doesn't interfere with conversation."

  • "Delightful brunch pastries, small but comprehensive menu that would delight any palate.Accommodating and attentive staff. Ideal location to walk around the village or the meatpacking district. Get there early enough and abundance of parking in the street"

  • "We were a party of 4, and all enjoyed our dining experience. We especially liked the cold corn soup, the bone marrow & roe, and the porgy. Thought the milanese chicken dry and ordinary, and the mussels portion definitely too small; but the pretzel rolls were delicious and warm. Waiter was helpful and pleasant, atmosphere had energy but not too loud to talk or hear, ambience was lovely and decor delightful. Definitely recommend The Marrow as a fine dining experience."

  • "I recently had dinner at The Marrow with my fiance, brother, and sister-in-law. I thought it was an exceptional dining experience. The food was incredibly flavorful, perfectly prepared, and aesthetically beautiful. Our server was very attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable without being overbearing. I will definitely recommend this place to others and plan to return soon."

  • "This was my second time eating here, and I must say that it was a disappointment. I want to specify that the wait staff was stellar the entire evening. They did everything right, even when confronted with the mistakes coming out of the kitchen. Whoever was working in the back, though, leaves much to be desired. First of all, the bone marrow that they served us came out cold, and uncooked. then the duck was overcooked, and we had to send it back. One of the sides was so drenched in dressing, that it was unedible. Now, I have had all of these dishes before, so I knew what the end result should have been. it was not what we got. Don't think i'll be heading back there any time soon."

  • "Ok, so I went a little crazy with the 5 stars, but I have to say you can feel love and care exuding from this place, from the staff to the fresh pecan-cinnamon rolls they serve at brunch and baked in-house. This is one of my favorite West Village spots now. If I ever decide to date again, I'll be sure to take him there."

  • "Not my favorite place. I won't be back. I was expecting a list of different marrow dishes but there was only one with the burger. There was nothing appetizing to anyone at our table when we looked at the menu. Other people came in and walked back out. The drinks were good, however you can get a nice drink anywhere."

  • "From the minute we entered this restaurant, we were made to feel comfortable and welcomed. They have wine for $5 a glass during happy hour and the German white was delicious. We started with the bone marrow and calamari. The bone marrow was flawless though the beans with the calamari were undercooked. The duck schnitzel was huge and had interesting sides. The porgy was beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. Overall, this is definitely a place to recommend and revisit."

  • "Great service was the standout of the evening. Cocktails were well made and delicious. The food was good and would have been very good if it had arrived hot."

  • "Had a high expectation given the price point. Food was not bad but not great. Salad greens were not washed througoughly, striped bass was bland, duck schntitzel was dry and flavorless. The marrow appetizer is very good. Round table was too small for four people..."
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "The food at the Marrow was okay, not great: the marrow appetizer was over-garnished with all sorts of stuff, including salmon roe; it killed the dish. The daily special pasta was just plain tough, not al dente. The table service and bar service were very nice. The noise was deafening. But the hostess, whose "welcome" was appalling, ruined the entire experience. I arrived at 7:42 for a 7:45 reservation for two. She noted that I was “early,” and since my “party” of one other person wasn’t there, I would need to wait at the bar. I pointed out the literal swath of empty tables for two. She countered that all of those tables were “confirmed.” What could be more of a confirmation than my presence? But I will not be back."

  • "We loved Kin Shop & Perilla so when our family of four planned a return trip to NYC we decided to try The Marrow. What a disappointment. The appetizers were fine, nothing stellar. The main courses were truly dull and uninspired. Ice cream and sorbet selections for dessert were just okay. Not sure what went wrong with this meal (skate wing...blah, lemon or a light sauce would have been nice; porkchop...ordinary; duck...awful; porgy...fine). Meals at his other two restaurants were delicious."

  • "Grilled pork chop was awesome and the egg was perfectly cooked. The bloody mary wasn't amazing but it was pretty good. The Kale crisps were amazing. Took my parents for mother's day brunch and they were really really happy with it - prices are reasonable for the quality as well"
