A word from The Marrow
The Marrow is a contemporary American restaurant, located amidst picturesque brownstones and cobblestone streets in the West Village, run by Chef Harold Dieterle and Alicia Nosenzo, owners of nearby Perilla and Kin Shop. The food is inspired by the ethnic heritage of Harold’s parents, reflecting his father’s German ancestry and mother’s Italian lineage. To complement The Marrow’s menu, an extensive, yet approachable beverage program is offered that includes nearly 400 wines, with a strong emphasis on Italian, German, and Austrian producers.   • "This was my second time eating here, and I must say that it was a disappointment. I want to specify that the wait staff was stellar the entire evening. They did everything right, even when confronted with the mistakes coming out of the kitchen. Whoever was working in the back, though, leaves much to be desired. First of all, the bone marrow that they served us came out cold, and uncooked. then the duck was overcooked, and we had to send it back. One of the sides was so drenched in dressing, that it was unedible. Now, I have had all of these dishes before, so I knew what the end result should have been. it was not what we got. Don't think i'll be heading back there any time soon."

  • "Ok, so I went a little crazy with the 5 stars, but I have to say you can feel love and care exuding from this place, from the staff to the fresh pecan-cinnamon rolls they serve at brunch and baked in-house. This is one of my favorite West Village spots now. If I ever decide to date again, I'll be sure to take him there."

  • "From the minute we entered this restaurant, we were made to feel comfortable and welcomed. They have wine for $5 a glass during happy hour and the German white was delicious. We started with the bone marrow and calamari. The bone marrow was flawless though the beans with the calamari were undercooked. The duck schnitzel was huge and had interesting sides. The porgy was beautifully presented and perfectly cooked. Overall, this is definitely a place to recommend and revisit."

  • "The food at the Marrow was okay, not great: the marrow appetizer was over-garnished with all sorts of stuff, including salmon roe; it killed the dish. The daily special pasta was just plain tough, not al dente. The table service and bar service were very nice. The noise was deafening. But the hostess, whose "welcome" was appalling, ruined the entire experience. I arrived at 7:42 for a 7:45 reservation for two. She noted that I was “early,” and since my “party” of one other person wasn’t there, I would need to wait at the bar. I pointed out the literal swath of empty tables for two. She countered that all of those tables were “confirmed.” What could be more of a confirmation than my presence? But I will not be back."

  • "We loved Kin Shop & Perilla so when our family of four planned a return trip to NYC we decided to try The Marrow. What a disappointment. The appetizers were fine, nothing stellar. The main courses were truly dull and uninspired. Ice cream and sorbet selections for dessert were just okay. Not sure what went wrong with this meal (skate wing...blah, lemon or a light sauce would have been nice; porkchop...ordinary; duck...awful; porgy...fine). Meals at his other two restaurants were delicious."

  • "The Marrow sits on a quiet corner in the far W. Village near the Palazzo Chupi. The tables were far enough apart and the restaurant small enough that there wasn't a massive din at Sat. dinner. Cocktail list short but with interesting choices (loved the Green's Keeper). While the appetizers were small, the mains were hefty. Needed help to finish to duck schnitzel with great sides. We found ourselves ordering mostly from what is spiritually the Austrian rather than Italian "side" of the menu (though not labelled or really divided as such any longer), in part because there are dozens of fine Italian restaurants of all types in NYC while there are but a handful of Austrian ones. We'll be back for sure."

  • "Our occasion was special, Marrow made it a very special night. Best pork chop I've ever had. The Hen of the Woods veggie dish made a believer out of us. The best rice ball ever (including Avenue U in Brooklyn) Everything else? Exquisite ! Already booked a table for 4. We intend to come back a lot! Great waitstaff (Amber) who know the food and the way the kitchen creates the dish. Overall, don't miss the chance to experience the excellence they have to offer."

  • "I've been to Harold's other restaurants and this one missed the mark. The food was good, but nothing stood out as something that I would want to come back for. Also, the prices are probably 20-25% overpriced which is probably why the restaurant was completely empty on a Sunday night. You'll have a much better meal at Perilla if you want to try out chef Harold's food. "

The wait staff was attentive and very friendly. The food was excellent, especially the soft crab appetizer special, the pasta and the burger with bone marrow. We'd definitely come back. "

  • "The best part of this meal was the bone marrow, very very good. The slow cooked duck egg, kinda tasted like something mushed together, wasn't bad but not like wow or anything like that....the griddled TM burger is alright, it just didn't perk my taste that much and the veges on the side like kale or sugar snap peas were too oily n fried, that is just so american and blaa to me having good healthy veges that oily. Other dishes my friends ordered like the S U C K L I N G P I G S A L T I M B O C C A , R O A S T E D N A T U R A L C H I C K E N, and G R I L L E D L E G O F L A M B was good but hmmm since the best was the bone marrow n pretty good rice balls, i rather go back to Crispo where there were more dishes i liked than here really..."

  • "Such a kind and knowledgeable staff, really tasty food! It's a little too dark and loud- not ideal for a table of 4. Better for a smaller group, or sitting at the bar. They had great wine specials when we went, and a good looking counter set up at the bar! The food, from pretzel rolls to ginger cake, and the marrow! Was amazing! (Portions are really large)"

  • "Went for Brunch and I must say it was Delicious. The menu is creative with more than your usual selections. The staff is pleasant and attentive but not overbearing, The food ridiculously good.The duck meatloaf sandwich was light and flavorful. The eggs and hash had two perfectly cooked eggs on top of bites of potatoes and corn beef, not the usual mashed up hash. The squid ink pasta fresh and not fishy,the sauce a great complement to it. If you like Brussel sprouts order them. They are crispy and combined with crisp kale tossed in an amazing dressing. Overall it was a feast to remember."

  • "Recently had Sunday brunch at the Marrow. The staff were really accommodating when i wanted to increase my booking from six to nine people and change the time. There were also very attentive during our meal. The food was excellent, particularly the duck meatloaf which was a total standout. Coffee was also very good. Will definitely be coming back."

  • "Very loud (deafening) restaurant. Tables nicely spaced. Nice bar area. Interesting and fairly priced wine list with some depth in German whites. Triggerfish entree excellent. Garganelli appetizer only fair--needed more flavor. Sauerbraten entree special very disappointing--virtually no flavor in the dish beyond the appropriately mildly sour flavor of the meat; covered in oily vegetables; reminded me of the bad old days of uninspired German cooking."

  • "i had the steak which was ok, however my friend had the duck schnitzel and it was awful so he was honest with them, send it back, then they brought him the lamb which was also really bad. I have lived in this area for about 5 years and there are tons of great places. these guys need to get their act together being in such a competitive location."
