The Market Place RestaurantLove this Asheville SpotAll I can say, is you MUST get the Mac N' Cheese small plate. Also, sit at the bar if you can because the bartenders are top-notch with tons of interesting drink ideas. My only mino complaint is that the main dining room just seems kind of blah decor-wise, which is why I suggest sitting at the bar or outside seating area. Both have a much better vibe - feels more Asheville like to me.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat endAfter an aactive day of rafting and exploring Asheville the Market Place was the perfect ending. We enjoyed a fine meal with great service and relaxed atmosphere. We will be back.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMA great recommendationSent here by our hotel, The Indigo. The food was fabulous. Loved the pickles! The staff was knowledgeable and friendly, but not over the top. It had a relaxed ambience, not pretentious, which we hate. Had a great gin and tonic made with artisanal tonic and a glass of Pinot noir which was very good with our fish, which was well prepared, with perfectly cooked vegetables. Dessert was just ok, the bread pudding was a little boring compared to the rest of the meal. We were stuck there in a rain storm because we walked from our hotel, and they called us a cab and stood out there in the rain with an umbrella to hail it for us! We loved both Ashville and the restaurant, will definitely be back!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMRemarkable Food in AshevilleAfter reading reviews of dining in Asheville we decided on The Market Place. Food was outstanding and wait staff knew the menu and was able to make recommendations. We ate at a table in the patio and found Wall Street to be less than delightful. The food and service was far better than the patio ambience indicated at first glance.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was a very busy night forIt was a very busy night for the restaurant, but our waiter, Joshua, took great care of us. The food was very good--a nice way to celebrate our 48th anniversary.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMConversation with the ChefAs a first time visitor (in Asheville on business) I was very impressed that the chef took the time to discuss the menu with me. His insights were quite helpful. More significantly, it was great to sense the pashion and commitment that he brings to The Marketplace.
I look forward to the opportunity to return!6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and ambience were great.Food and ambience were great. Server was friendly and courteous but service was somewhat slow. I would definitely return.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome experience! The food, service and atmosphere were great! We will definitely be back.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat eveningWe were in Saturday night - Charley and the rest of the staff were amazing, as was the food. We've been in a number of times of the last 6 or so years...only thing I would change was the entertainment that was there Sat night. She added nothing to our evening and we found the inhouse recorded music to be better prior to her "mixing" that started at 7 - outside street music was much better5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMSurprised by exceptional food.It was our first visit to the Marketplace, which we hadn't heard a lot about. The food blew us away. Each of the three of us had exceptionally flavorful, innovative dishes that were a step above what we usually expect from our standby Asheville favorites. The service was great. The room is lovely. We will definitely be back.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMexceptional wait staffEverything was wonderful but the wait staff was exceptional. Great place to celebrate.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMSouthernFoodieThis is our second time to go to this outstanding restaurant. They are one of the first in the area to utilize area farms for the freshest meats and produce. They have small plates and large plates which I personally love. We shared a small plate of mussels which were wonderful and then a lamb parpadalle dish that will knock off your socks. Their mac and cheese small dish is also outstanding. Another member of our party had a beef dish which they said was incredibly good. No room for desserts so can't tell you how they are.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the bestThe Market Place would be outstanding in any location. Adding to the pleasure is Denise, a waitress whose title should be Dinner Director -- one of a kind and a super professional.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMfood super...service not so muchThe food was perfect. I was entertaining two old and specal friends who are used to fine dining. They were
not disappointed. The service was lackluster at best. Our waitress all but ignored us.
The atmosphere is quiet and so we could catch up and talk easily. That was one reason I chose
Marketplace.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMBest in AshevilleExcellent, creative food with friendly attentive service. Modern decor with tables comfortably spaced.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMMarket PlaceHad not been to MP for about three years. We went prior to the Asheville Symphony concert and were able to enjoy a leisurely and delicious meal, yet still got out in plenty of time to get to the concert.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AManother good experienceNot our first meal at The Market Place, and we continue to find the food consistently fresh, interesting and wonderfully prepared. . Yummy cockatils, too! Love the atmosphere and jazz. The pace of the service to place our dinner order could have been accelerated, but when we made our concerns known to the server, we enjoyed exceptional attention for the rest of the delightful evening.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat all around!!!Great service, food and ambience! This place has now become one of my favorite places in Asheville!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Market Place---a new favorite! We found the Market Place on line and decided to give it a try for someplace different for us in downtown Asheville. There is a relatively new owner/chef who is very young, and he has done an excellent job. The decor is very chic and upscale, the food was outstanding, as was our server who made our experience all the more pleasurable. Our only criticism is that the menu is somewhat limited. However, we love that all of the food items are purchased locally. We'll be back!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMA new favorite! The food was outstanding. It has a similar concept to Table (locally sourced food vendors), but I thought the food at Market Place was better and the service much more friendly. Everyone MUST order the mac and cheese. It is absolutely the best I have ever had and everyone at the table agreed. We went on a Friday night and they had live music (solo musician), which we found enjoyable. The atmosphere is fairly urban and trendy, but I think any age of diner would be comfortable here. The menu isn't huge, but we found everything ordered to be amazing. I think I will go back for the mac and cheese alone.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMFood, service, presentationFood, service, presentation all were outstanding. Highly recommend this place and will go back when next in Asheville.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMAnniversary DinnerWe went to Marketplace for our 31st wedding anniversary. Started at the bar (of course) where we were greeted by a very friendly bartender who promptly told us the specials and delivered an extensive wine list. We had with our beer their home made pickle appetizer which I have to say was right tasty especially the bread and butter ones.
Hostess seated us promptly and Server came to us right after. The only negative was she forgot the bring the bread until after the meal arrived and she apologized for her mistake. Food was wonderfully prepared (I had pork chop wife had steak) and the sides quite tasty. Our server made sure our water did not make it down the glass half way and was pleasant in doing so. Overall a really good night.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMFoodie colleaguesHad some out of town foodie guests and was very thoughtful about which restaurant I chose. They were not disappointed! Lovely meal, staff did not pester us, service was timely. We ordered a drink that they had never made and did not have the correct ingredients, but they looked up the recipe, improvised and it was just great.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat restaurant good foodGreat restaurant good food . Farm to table, everything was very fresh
and good.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was excellent only oneFood was excellent only one mediocre dish, Papardella... it was tasteless. Other three (3) entree's, all appetizers & deserts were Superb. perhaps the bad choice was on me ! GREAT service, we were there for 5 hours no rushing us...We had not been there in 2 years, definitely would go back..
Thanks,

Hip, tasteful, edgy ambiance, though a bit dark (hard to see the food on one's plate). The food and service were first rate, and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was great, the pork chopFood was great, the pork chop was so tender you could cut with a fork. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a good time and great food.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGood experience on all levels.Good experience on all levels. Much better experience than our last visit (different owner).4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful meal atWe had a wonderful meal at The Market Place while visiting Asheville for the weekend. We loved that almost all items on the menu were marked as coming from within 100 miles of Asheville. The chef then used these ingredients in creative ways without sacrificing the essence of the seasonal flavors. Notable were a small plate of Brussels sprouts with lardons and a squash puree, as well as a house-made pate and an entree of spring pea risotto. Waitstaff was attentive and knowledgeable without being intrusive. The bartender created a fabulous drink for us when we asked about a particular liquor. This was a really memorable experience and we're glad we found the Market Place!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent, fresh, inventiveExcellent, fresh, inventive food, at a good price. Spectacular service. An Asheville favorite!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic first visitThis was our first time at The Market Place. It is in a great place and even though we didn't sit on the patio, we will try it when the weather warms up. The food was fantastic and unique, which is tough to do in the competitive Asheville market. We especially loved the edamame and the pea risotto. And the service was blue ribbon. Several servers brought over different items, and each of them was great - detail-oriented and very nice. Robertino was our server and we truly enjoyed him. Very nice young man, smiling, happy, informed and just an overall good soul. Glad you are on OpenTable or we may not have made our way to you. Thank you and we will be back!4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMOur first experience thereOur first experience there and we will definitely return when we are in Asheville. There were four of us and we all had different menu items. Everything was ourstanding. Menu was very creative and presentation was great.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyable time with friends.Enjoyable time with friends. Food was beautifully presented and delicious. Many items are presented as small plates; the potions could have been larger. I chose several; one was the delicious potato gnocchi, but I went away hungry. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly. He could have been more attentive. Empty plates he sat in front of us too long, one diner never got the tea she requested, and we had to ask for additional bread. Overall it was a pleasant experience that had room for improvement.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb and very well informedSuperb and very well informed staff, the food exceptional as well as resonably priced. The total experience continues to make the Market Place one of Ashevilles best. If you are visiting, make reservations, and do not miss this one.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMI sat at the bar and the bartenderI sat at the bar and the bartender was very knowledgeable about the menu and the wine list. The live music is wonderful. It was a great find and I will definitely be back.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMOur dinner was another superbOur dinner was another superb experience at The Market Place. We are locals, and this is one of our very favorite out of a number of excellent restaurants in this city. The food is always delicious, beautifully presented, and the wine list offers a lot of interesting choices. We especially love Chef Dissen's commitment to "farm to table" cuisine and his support of local vendors.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMIt doesn't get much better! It was the most outstanding wine dinner in the history of Asheville, North Carolina!3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMMarket Place is a MUST!Chef William is outstanding. The food is fresh and interesting and surprisingly inexpensive. The wine list was appealing and the decor was made for Asheville: high quality, artistic craftsmanship and comfortable. It was so nice to find a place where you could carry on a conversation too. Our waiter was helpful and then disappeared only to reappear at the perfect times. Try the papardelle and the pear and blue cheese small plate. Both were wonderful.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMTook my wife to dinner atTook my wife to dinner at the Market Place and she was very happy about. The duck dumplings were exquisite and loved both the quail and the sirloin steak. Will be back when we visit Asheville again!3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was amazing...ambiance,Everything was amazing...ambiance, food, wine, service. Very reasonably priced for the style and quality. Great place for a special occasion, but a good bar to sit at for a drink and small plate.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMWe've eaten at the MarketWe've eaten at the Market Place now and then for 16 or 17 years. We like the modern menu and the innovative food offerings. I would say that, while it was quite good a decade or so ago, it is even better now. The bar at the entrance is attractive and quite the crowd pleaser.
My straight up Bombay Sapphire martini was excellent.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMMagnificent! We had an absolutely incredible time at The Market Place. We we're visiting Asheville, NC and this restaurant came highly recommended. It did not disappoint. The food was off the charts delicious. The restaurant was beautifully decorated. They had a great wine list, and our server was wonderful. She knew the menu, she recommended wines based on our entree choices, she gave us a little history lesson on the restaurant and their "farm to table" approach to their menu. We loved her! If you are ever in Asheville, this place is a must for dinner! You will not regret it!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMKnowledgeable and attentiveKnowledgeable and attentive waitstaff.
