A word from The Mariner's Inn
When Bill and Betty Von Rutenberg opened The Mariner’s Inn in 1966, they set out to provide a steak and seafood dining experience like none other. Mouth watering, delicious steaks aged to perfection and an assortment of seafood from lobster to the famous Friday Fish Fry.

Bill and Betty’s sons, Bill, Jack, and Robert, along with their crew, now carry on the tradition of outstanding hospitality of von Rutenberg Ventures. Waterfront dining on the patio and a sunset over the marina make dinner at Mariner’s an evening to remember.

We've been going to the Mariner's for as long as they've been open and it's always been a favorite. During our latest dining experience we shared the "48th birthday" specials which were wonderful!! Would recommend it to anyone but hurry as it only goes through late December!!

Had early dinner after Badger victory with our next door neighbors. Just a very pleasant, relaxing meal. Lovely location on this late fall afternoon over looking the lake. Always warmly greeted by the owner who sincerely make you feel at home. Brian our waiter is the best. Shrimp were excellent, the small tenderloin was only fair, and chicken was very good. Will certainly be back.

Enjoyed the Bar experience before dinner. Dinner - Extremely disappointed. Expected more from Mariners. Only one of the four meals was very good (the tenderloin and cold water lobster). The shrimp and sirloin steak combo, the shrimp was very good but the sirloin was tough and flavorless. The waiter didn't come back to ask during the meal. The other two meals were the lake perch and they were just ok but nothing special. Don't plan on returning.

We have made it a tradition to celebrate our wedding anniversary at Mariner's Inn every year. This was our 18th year! The food is outstanding, the service makes you feel like you are the only one they are catering to,the atmosphere is old charm with a family feel and the location is a beautiful spot on the lake where you can watch cranes, ducks and sunsets. We will continue to make this our special place!

The Mariner's Inn is one of those places that, each time you visit, you wonder why you don't visit more often. The whole vibe of this family-run place is classically comfortable. When you walk in, you are greeted like an old friend. The servers are very personably yet not intrusive. The ambiance is not pretentious, but instead is just... classic. And the food... well, they haven't been around as long as they have without having consistently great food. I do think that if you're a "foodie," and rate a place on how they can turn traditional steak house fare into something unrecognizable, this isn't your place. For the rest of us, it's worth the out-of-the-way drive for a very satisfying dining experience.

Everytime we go to the Mariner's we get ignored at the bar. This past visit was no exception. Both bartenders walked right past us a couple of times. I finally had to ask to be waited on. It wasn't busy and bartenders were just emptying the dishwasher. If they would have said, "be right with you" I wouldn't have minded. But for both to completely ignore us is a different story. Food was very good and you got a nice portion. I have no complaints about the food at all.

My wife and I went to Mariner's Inn on a Friday evening for our anniversary. We had never eaten there before. I had requested a table with a view of the lake and that request was filled. However, because some larger groups already in the restaurant, we had to wait approximately 20 minutes and by then we had missed the sunset. Not the end of the world as our server, David, was great and food delicious. We'll have to go back to enjoy the outdoor patio.

We went to the Mariner's to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. A supper club atmosphere with friendly staff as we sat near a window looking out at the sunset. The area we sat was little dark and with dark menus a was hard to read them. The Top Sirloin with sauteed mushrooms and evening special of Alaskan King crab legs with melted butter was lovely! The appetizer of calamari was light and crispy and white dipping sauce was very good instead of the traditional red cocktail sauce. The signature clam chowder and pumpernickel bread both lived up to their reputation. We appreciated our server Rob who was patient and delightful. Thank you for the complimentary cheesecake. All so very delicious!

We used a gift certificate we received as a wedding gift and were so glad we did. Best steak I've ever had. Was a little disappointed and confused by the drink menu. Looked for Spotted Cow on tap but when it was brought to the table, it was a bottle and the server explained nothing was on tap yet. I didn't order another since it wasn't tap. The servers and host were very helpful and friendly. It was very warm in the dining room, and the host tried his best to cool it down, but overall a great experience and we will be back.

Our waiter was excellent, sadly our food was just OK. Actually, for the price, it really wasn't even OK. I am not shy about spending good money for great food but did not find the food much above average although dinner for two was 130.00. There wasn't anything particularly wrong to complain about. But, there wasn't much particularly right about it either. We felt they used quality ingredients but cooked them inexpertly. Maybe it was the chef's night off? Not likely on a Saturday. We won't try again anytime soon. There are many other restaurants in Madison to choose from that have that special something that makes for a great meal.

We had reservations for a party of 7 with a special request for a table out of the main thoroughfare. Our request was honored and they were ready to seat us when all arrived. The view of the lake added much to the atmosphere. Our party had a smattering of different choices on the menu including the New York Strip steak (done to perfection and flavorful) and deep fried shrimp (generous portion, light golden batter) . But the crowning glory was our server, who was knowledgeable, friendly, and anticipated our every whim without hovering. The party near us was celebrating a birthday, and our server obliged them by singing "Happy Birthday" in Italian, no less! Her melodic and beautiful voice only added to the uniqueness of the visit.

Hey mates, there by nothin' like the whiff of a dark moody room to set the mood at this maritime disaster. Your timbers will be all a shiver when you sail across the worn, uneven carpet to dock alongside a sticky table. Bring your treasure chest to pay for the overpriced, meager portions. Cast off your worries about saving room for desert. My cheesecakes was so small I thought it was a sample for me to approve before the actual slice was presented.

A traditional favorite restaurant for generations continues today what Mother and Father started. We were some of the lucky ones to receive our menu from Betty--verbally! Nobody else could do it like she did it. The family clearly continues what the parents started....and with the same high level of standards. It is more on the pricey side but if it is a special ocassion, The Mariner's Inn staff will show you that you made the right choice. Dont't forget the hash browns. They are a must.
