Diner Reviews
  • "First, I checked off "notable wine list" because there wasn't a "notable beer list". The wine list might be notable but I was distracted by the beer list which contained a US beers which piqued my interest, the Ommegang Hennepin which contained coriander and ginger. I was prepared to be disappointed (as I have been by "gentrified" beers) but was actually amazed by it. Service was really good, the waitress was very knowledgeable (even about the beers!), and the ambiance was good. However, these things don't count if the food is not outstanding - which it was. The ribeye was excellent. "

  • "Friendly staff, all staff not just servers. Very well prepared food 3 words: butter on Steak Just perfect all around"

  • "Service was very good however we were disappointed that 3 of the lunch choices were sold out. The substitution of pan seared char was good but somewhat overcooked. The brisket sandwich was a bit chewy. Loved the lemon tart. The restaurant was very busy during lunch, however, the ambience was very good and we appreciated the large windows with a view of the street. "

  • "i toook my mom out for dinner, i had high expectation for their steak, but taste just average, Keg, ruth chris, vons etc. all has better steak. sorry, just not impressed."

  • "The entrecote frites (or steak and fries) was seasoned and cooked to perfection, and the creme caramel dessert was TO DIE FOR!"

  • "I had the lamb daube, cooked very well and tasted good. My girlfriend had the entrecote frites; which was not on par with what we would've expected. Perhaps a bad cut of meat, but the ribeye was rather chewy throughout. The table next to us also made the same comment with the same dish."

  • "It's always a pleasure to come here. Patrick Saurette is a fabulous owner/manager who takes the time to chat with all the customers and make them feel welcome. The staff are helpful and very friendly, and look like they enjoy working there. Everything is clean and sparkling."

  • "I got a new job and so I came here for dinner with my family to celebrate. I had never been here before but I read reviews online that glowed with praise for it so we decided to try it out. The reviews were all spot on! The food was excellent, the decor was modern and fun, and the service was great! They had actually messed up my order by bringing me the wrong thing so they served me a delicious dessert compliments of the house! It didn't take long for the proper order to come out after the others so I didn't mind but it just made my day to be treated with such courtesy. Truly spectacular food and service. The price was very reasonable too! I would recommend to anyone, even as a once off if you are on a student budget! Treat yourself!"

  • "The food is good but the portion sizes are small. Wine was good but much more expensive than the same wine at another restautant. Service is very good. It's a busy spot, best to make a reservation."

  • "Now that's what I'm talking about. They have originality, good taste and it's at a reasonable price. Will definitely be going back there."

  • "The Marc is a fine dining experience - limited menus with excellent choices - vegetarians may be disappointed though. My wife and I had good food experience but were disappointed with the wine list - no Canadian wines - I find this to be both surprising and disappointing given the excellent range and choices available - for wine choice the Marc misses the mark or is of the marc or gets low marcs!!!!!!!!"

  • "The Marc is easily my favorite restaurant in Edmonton. It balances fantastic food, a great drink selection, friendly and knowledgeable service with reasonable prices and an easy, casual-meets-fine-dining atmosphere. Whether you need somewhere accessible to take a group of both foodies and unfoodies, somewhere to impress your mother-in-law, somewhere to have a satisfying work lunch, or somewhere to take your significant other on a Friday night, the Marc is that place. The food never disappoints (though I know I'm not the only one who wishes that the duck confit would come back!). The service is always fantastic. The Marc is my Edmonton go-to restaurant, and it can be yours, too."

  • "Food was delicious. Appetizers were perfect serving size before the main course. Wine menu was excellent, and the service was just as great. Fabulous ambience and very reasonably priced for the quality of food. Love the menu. The french fries with the steak frites were the best I have ever had and the dip was phenomenal. The owner was around to make us feel welcomed. Excellent experience."

  • "It's tough to have really high expectations for a "expensive" restaurant as I have been disappointed with some in the past. I was blown away by the food and the service. Water always filled, waitress was friendly (without being overbearing) and great at recommending food items to us first comers. We went for an anniversary dinner and although it was quite loud, we were still able to chat and have a great time. We started with the scallops for an appetizer and both had the Entrecote Frites. DEELISH. Scallops were perfectly cooked and paired with a great puree and meat for the entrecote was melt in your mouth. Dessert - beignets- omg. needed to roll me out of the restaurant as I was so full by the end of it."

  • "Went there for dinning week, for the $15 lunch, and it was fantastic! The service, first of all, was well above par. Both courses came out with beautiful presentation, and the flavours matched. I would go back in a heartbeat!"

  • "The energetic but unrushed feel of The Marc make it an ideal location for supper with friends. We ate the "dine in downtown" fixed menu of appetizer, salmon and dessert. Although one of our group was a bit leery of the appetizer which included a poached egg, she was won over after the first bite of complex flavours - capers, anchovy, broccoli bits. The salmon was cooked to perfection and, as always, the presentation artful and appealing. Dessert was simple and appropriate - not too much, not too sweet, not too much. I've never been disappoints by a meal at The Marc, and this was no exception."

  • "Excellent menu for DDW and the price is right, too. $25 for dinner is a comfortable amount to pay during this promotion. Many other participating restaurants are charging $50, which I feel is too high. Food was delicious and apparently it's THE place to be, as we were surprised when Alison Redford stopped in for a quick bite and a shot of vodka after she announced her resignation. The Marc never disappoints, whatever the occasion."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our time at The Marc. Food arrived promptly. Impressed with the complimentary warm bread and whipped butter. The meal for Downtown dining week ,was delicious, very fresh ,and different from other restaurants we have tried. The salmon was superb .We also had the scallops and loved them .Egg appetizer was very unique . The service was excellent, attentive, caring ,can't fault anything. Lovely decor and a lot of attention to details, such as low lighting ,fresh tulips in a clear glass vase. Interesting spanish type music gave it a European feel. Great small bar with barman making cocktails. All the other customers loved very content . Would definitely return ,and will recommend The Marc."

  • "This was not our first trip to The Marc. We attended because of the Dining Downtown promotion, $25 for a 3 course meal is unbeatable. The food is fantastic and the service as always was top notch, the waiter had several suggestions for pairing drinks with the forthcoming meal."

  • "The menu was impressive, with many tantalizing fine food creations. The service was great. Our food was carefully prepared, and everything came out from the kitchen at the perfect temperature. Taste, texture, and flavors were fantastic. This was one of the best meals I've had in Edmonton in years. The Marc has made its mark, as one of the finest restaurants in the City."

  • "I have been to The Marc on a number of occassions and, although they normally get it right, my last lunch there was the exception. I ordered the smoked salmon and potato salad entree. The small red potatoes were cut into quarters and I received seven of them (there were so few on the plate, it was easy to count). So for an entree portion I didn't even get two whole, small potatoes. When I complained to the server she did offer to get me more salad but I declined. On a positive note, the serving size was so small my lunch guest was in tears from laughing so hard. In contrast, she enjoyed her lunch special which was a more appropriate size for lunch."

  • "We dined for the first time at The Marc recently and it was one of the best meals we have ever had. The food, was impeccable. We have an appetizer, entree, and desert, and all were amazing. Definitely, we must go back soon!"

  • "I returned for lunch at The Marc and was greeted warmly by the hostess who hung my coat for me (nice). Service was warm, knowledgeable and efficient. The arctic char with roasted tomato and pesto orzo and braised radicchio and apple was the perfect portion, expertly prepared. The Marc's consistency is another of its pleasing features that makes booking the next visit a certainty."

  • "As one fortunate enough to have very good friends in France and to be able to visit regularly, we have a reasonable experience of Michelin Guide-rated restaurants. Generally we do not eat out in Edmonton and 'save our pennies' for France. However, looking for an Edmonton restaurant to celebrate a special occasion, I came across The Marc. Our dinner was way beyond expectations. We were back in a Michelin paradise. L'Eau de Vie de Marc de Bourgogne was the final trump card. Thank you so much to Doris and Patrick. We will be back."

  • "The Marc has been our favourite restaurant for a few years with careful and consistent preparation often informed by French country style. The prices are very reasonable compared to other top restaurants in the city. Something about the acoustics of the room but it can be a bit loud when full. BTW - to help keep independent restaurants healthy be sure to have the courtesy to cancel if you cannot keep a reservation or the size of your party changes."

  • "Everything was fabulous - from booking the table, staff coming outside to help with my companions wheelchair, the service and all of the food. Fully understand why it is rated a top 3 restaurant in the city."

  • "This was similar in quality to Bistro Saisons (RIP) but more expensive. The wine selection was adequate. I had the scallops which were soft and tasty. The Arctic char with quinoa was above average. The special shortbread cookie is not at the same level of desserts in Edmonton, but that's to be expected as the competition is out of this world."

  • "The food was just OK. Certainly not worth the price. This restaurant has been billed as best in the city and it is far from it."
