  • "I called ahead for a friends birthday and set up a veg dish for myself, and chocolate cake with a sparkler for her. When we arrived, they did not have a table set up for us and asked where we wanted to be seated. The server asked for our order, even though I had called ahead. The "special" vegetarian dish was a few lentils, wilted spinach, and peppers. It was very unappetizing/bland and was about the size of the palm of my hand. The server then ruined the surprise by asking if we wanted dessert, and I had to admit that it was her birthday. They offered her a free birthday drink, which curdled when it arrived. They did offer to remove my meal, but I had to pull the server aside to explain the frustration first. Fine dining? I think not."

Interesting menu (in a good way). I almost hate to recommend this place in case I can't get a reservation myself!"

  • "I've been to the Marc three times now, each time finding it simply okay. I keep going back as so many love it. If you are not a big meat eater, there is very little on the menu for you to choose from. This last trip we had the Arctic Char fish cakes to start. They were not very good. I had the duck and my husband had the steak frites. His steak was the winner. The Marc isn't bad, just not worth it for me. I don't recommend going if you don't want a meat dish for an entree."

  • "We were given a gift certificate for the Marc from some friends after we had done them a favour. They said that the Marc is their favourite restaurant in Edmonton and it isn't hard to see why. The food here is AMAZING! Good quality food, I found the portion sizes to be a good size but they are not large. It is a fairly small restaurant with the tables fairly close together, so do not expect a romantic or intimate atmosphere. The servers are very friendly and very prompt, your water glass is never empty. And did I mention that the food is delicious?"

  • "We were a group of four. Cauliflower soup was delicious. Artic Char cakes were delicious. Octopus appetizer was a little chewy and tasteless. Rib eye steak was tender, tasty, an cook perfectly. Just lovely. Pork tenderloin was also perfectly cooked and mushroom based side that went with it was highly praised. Scallops were absolutely wonderful. And I have to say that I loved the beignets for desert. Overall food was wonderful, service was fine, and other than having water spilled on one of our party (I know, accidents happen) it was a fine dining experience."

  • "I've only been to the Marc for lunch, but I love it. The omelettes are my go-to favourite. Stuffed with anything from lamb, arugula and asiago to the one I had the other day with beef and red peppers and possibly gruyere. They come with toast and a crisp salad of mixed greens and house dressing. Light but filling. Carb-free if you skip the toast and perfectly yummy every single time. I can't even say how many of these I've eaten in the last year and every one has been as good as the last."

  • "Super place to go for any occasion or no occasion at all... Great food, great waiting staff and fantastic prices. We ate on the patio and as the night went on I started to get a chill... They have wraps/blankets to use! How perfect is that!? Loved it! We didn't feel rush out and staff were ever present, but not hovering- all was exceptional."

  • "I love the Marc, it's one of my favorite restaurants, but on this occasion it let me down. On pur arrival at 11:30 we were advised that the outdoor terrace would get very sunny (we watched, it didn't) so ate indoors, and we're placed right by the kitchen and entrance to the terrace so it was a busy spot. My beef brisket lunch selection was very heavy - all bun, meat and fries and very heavily seasoned. I had thought there was a salad, it was my fault for not checking more closely! surprising to see no greens on the plate. We couldn't get a refill on our water until we'd finished our meal - I understand lunch is a busy time but it should be possible to catch a server's eye in the space of an hour."

  • "Went with a small group of friends-had arranged a patio sitting but Edmonton weather does not always cooperate. Staff happily served us beverages outside with the understanding we would move inside for dinner. Great flexibility as one friend had to exit early to make other familial commitments -so the Marc accommodated serving dinner to one one the rest indulged in appies. On to the main course and the table got quieter as we all enjoyed varied treats from the menu. Everyone said their main course was great- steak frites, fish specials, and other delights. Split 3 desserts between 5 people and the beignets, chocolate-wlanet- caramel cake and lemon pie all disappeared too quickly. Make a reservation today-we'll be back!"

  • "Dined at The Marc on Thursday night. We'd made the reservation about 2 months prior. Our table..in a half empty restaurant was located right beside the door. Not a good start. We were moved to a banquette. Our server was fantastic. She was energetic, knew the menu and wine list. We started with a very good the house pate. My entree, skate wing, was OK. The sides /starch of lentils and snap peas was fine. My companion's entree, scallops was good. 3 large scallops on pea puree. He found the raw oats a bit offputting. The menu is adventurous. Dessert of mini beignets with sides of caramel and creme anglaise for dipping. Good, but the mini doughnuts at 100 are better. Overall - it was fine. Don't know if we'd go back."

I actually decided to go there after reading reviews and knowing that my future daughter-in-law liked steak and finding that they were awarded "best steak" in 2013 . We enjoyed our evening, our service was very good and the food was done per our requests. I would definitely return and I would also recommend it to anyone looking for a good meal with great service."

Great for anniversaries or birthdays and such occasions, but otherwise, it is definitely not worth the heavy price charged. Good arctic char! Chicken was too sweet but it's up to your judgement as to individual taste. The steak was very well prepared, quite delicious though it might appear to be a very small portion."

  • "The Marc was good, but not fantastic, like I had been led to believe. The food was fine, adequate but no one had something that they thought was the best they'd had, or anything like that. I had the sablefish with risotto: way too much risotto, quite gooey. Menu was pretty limited as well. We ordered cocktails, which took forever to arrive, and before we had started to enjoy them, our appetizers arrived. Not ideal -- our wiater should have been paying attention to the delay in bringing the drinks and advised the kitchen to hold the food. Minor annoyance : booked in advance for a mid-week sitting, yet were allocated a table in the back, so that half the table looked right into a wall. Ask for a table in the middle of the room."

  • "Food: heirloom tomato and green bean salad was simple yet excellent. grilled octopus was prepared sous-vide and while the flavours were nice, we weren't a fan of the texture. Arctic char dish was great - fish was cooked to perfection and the herb puree was a great accompaniment. Grilled bavette is good if you don't want the full 10oz ribeye - very flavourful piece of meat, but we still prefer the entrecote frites! For dessert, how can you not get the beignets? Service: The Marc has the service nailed down. Servers are warm, helpful and not intrusive at all. I can't say anything negative about the service at The Marc. The Marc is one of my two favourite restaurants in Edmonton - can't recommend it enough."

  • "Enjoyed a tasty meal at the Marc at the weekend. Shared the Arctic Char cakes for appy...delicious, I loved the accompanying slaw...very tasty! My husband ordered the seared scallops and was very pleased. I opted for the entrecôte & frites paired with a large glass of pinot noir....très bon! We managed to squeeze in a shared portion of their infamous chocolate walnut cake with salted caramel and it finished us off nicely!! Service was excellent and the meal was priced very reasonably. Very impressed with our debut visit to the Marc...we shall be back!"

  • "The food was excellent, with nice portions. There was an original touch to the plates; I had the scallops that were served with a hazelnut and oat crumble, great ! The wine list offers a nice variety of wines, fit for all budget. We also greatly enjoyed the open space in the restaurant, it wasn't too crowded as some other places where your elbows are almost in the neighbour's plate and where your afraid something will fall off the table everytime you take a bite."

  • "This restaurant was rated very high so we decided to celebrate my birthday there. The interior is very simple, and a little bit "cold". The view is not spectacular. The staff was pleasant, but we waited over an hour for the food. The beef and lamb portions were fairly small, contrary to pork that was big. So if you are really hungry go for the pork. Side dish is very small, too. Honestly, we expected more from a restaurant that was so highly rated."
