The noise level was pretty bad and we had to ask to move to another area as the room was filled with 20 somethings getting louder and louder as the evening progressed. so many people we couldn't move in our chairs. The place is probably great for people that age but we are in our 50s and had teenagers with us. We wanted to talk but couldn't hear each other.

The Malt House was our choice for its proximity to Poisson Rouge, where we were headed for a concert. The scene inside was so loud that we had to shout our conversation, so we asked to be moved outside to the sidewalk seating instead. Sidewalk was great and we got the extra benefit of watching the line at the club to know when to head over. The service was outstanding, food was delish. We shared the meatball sliders (A+) and the Mahi Mahi tacos (fresh!). We plan to return next time we're in the neighborhood.

Great brunch deal! Tasty food, neat atmosphere. Love the decor and picnic style seating - it was perfect for our group. Service was a bit slow even though it wan't very crowded, but we had a great time.

Most people go to Jane's and some of the other nicer brunch places, but The Malt House has a great bottomless drink brunch at a reasonable price. Check it out, especially when the weather is nice.

Loud, bad services. No one greet us when we arrived. We wait 1 hour even with reservations. After we order, another 1.5 hours wait for food to come.

This is one of my favorite places to bring out-of-towners (especially from outside the country). I think the service has always been friendly and efficient - overall great. When I made a reservation, I made a tall-order, which they accommodated completely. I was greeted upon arrival, they had cool servers that seem very laid-back and the beers are always good. The restaurant and restrooms were clean, the crowd was energetic and chill and our South American guest absolutely raved about it.

I made reservations for a group of 10 - they had the table ready when arrived and easily accomodated a couple extra add-ons to the group. The food was delicious and drinks were great! We did the bottomless brunch - the server refilled our drinks quickly and was very nice. Great experience, even with a large group!

The food was very good quality here. Definitely fantastic gastropub/american. From our Fried Pickles to the burger and the chicken and waffle sandwich, everything was delicious. Service was quick and efficient. Definitely a little crowded for a Friday night at 9pm. The bar was packed but we reserved a table. My only complaint was it was extremely hot in the place. I know it's really cold out but when you have a bunch of people packed in a tight space you have to turn the heat down. We were sat near the door and gladly welcomed the cold air every time the door was open. Also need a more extensive dessert menu. Overall would go again.

  • Why on OpenTable?

Not sure why this establishment would use OpenTable to fill reservations. We made reservations for 7 then changed then to 630 in the hopes of enjoying some of the Happy hour. When we arrived the place was completely packed. There was absolutely nobody at the front door as everyone was busy. We wiggled our way through the crowd looking for an available table and someone who worked there to no avail. We left without being noticed and went around the corner and enjoyed dinner and drinks somewhere else. I only rated the food as "poor" as the review doesn't include a check-box "no room available". Maybe the next time I am in NYC I can try again to get in...

Happy hour is from 12-7 and includes a few great drinks from their long list of beers. Recommend reservations because it fills up fast, but I was able to make a reservation for 12 just a few hours before showing up on a Thursday and there were no problems. Great bar food and beer selection. Service was only so-so.

My group met at The Malt House for a brunch recently. Around 1:45pm, we placed our orders. At 2:45, when two tables who ordered after us had already been served, we complained to the manager. It turns out our server didn't put our order in until 2:30, a full 45 minutes after we ordered. We weren't given any kind of discount, food, etc., just an apology from the manager. The food was okay, nothing to rave about though. If you have a group of people, this is a good place as it's open and easily accommodates larger parties. However, be prepared that you may have to wait for quite a while to be fed.

We went there for brunch based on a perks deal. When I printed my certificate it didn't print the information they needed. They were super nice about it though and told me if I couldn't get it on my phone to just call the next day. The waitress and manager spook to one on the phone and another in person were all very nice and professional. The food and drinks were delicious. But I would recommend it for both the great food and service.

This place was a breath of fresh air. I did not know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. The food is unique and interesting-- they offer staples like burgers and fries and Mac and cheese, but they put an interesting, gourmet spin on everything!! The wings are amazing... the fries are amazing... ohhhh and the curry ketchup! Nom!!

I reserved a table for 10 people at the malt house for happy hour with my coworkers. Even though we work closer to union square taking the trip down to the Malt House was definitely worth it. We especially liked the Malt House because of its dark yet inviting nature. We would rather be lurking in the darkness than out on a dance floor. Very casual but still a bit of class, loud and energetic noise level but you can still have vibrant conversations. Not to mention their extensive beer on tap list. (there was a Kentucky bourbon beer on the list that we all loved) Definitely will be coming back.

I had read a review on some Foodie newsletter about this place, so I was excited to go. Went on Sat. nite figured it would be a good, casual, fun place with great food and cocktails. Waitress was FANTASTIC - super attentive, fast, and got all the orders right, and gave good recommendations on cocktails. But then the food came - terrible. We ordered the spinach-artichoke dip, probably the only decent thing we ate. My fish tacos were terrible, tiny pieces of fish, giant-cold flour tortillas so i could barely make out my fish. My boyfriend ordered the lobster mac n cheese - gross. Bland, no cheese, and sitting in pasta water. He also ordered the lobster sliders - there was no lobster! Disappointed, don't think i'll be back.
