Mahogany Grille specializes in the art of steak and seafood, and offers a vegan and vegetarian menu. Enjoy handcrafted cuisine while stepping back in time. Experience the ambiance of the Victorian Old West as we serve you an array of eclectic culinary specialties.

When preparing the Mahogany Grille menu, our award-winning staff gives special focus to farm-fresh recipes that represent new styles with old west flavors. We hand-cut our steaks in our butcher shop, carefully select our foods, and incorporate products by local growers when available creating a mosaic of tastes and textures.

We take pride in being well-versed in fine wine and spirits. Complimented with our aromatic food, our wines and spirits make quite a delicious impression.

  • "The food is awesome at this resturant. A gormet variety to choose from. The Elk tenderloin is so yummy. The food choices are not really kid friendly but the resturant is kid friendly, epically for children 8 and over. The prices are a bit pricy but the food is worth every penny."

  • "A wonderful dining experience in a beautiful and historic setting. We were seated at a nice booth for two by a friendly hostess. Our server made us feel very welcome and was attentive throughout the evening. We ordered a lovely and well-priced bottle of wine from an extensive list, with selections from around the world. We started with the crab cakes and a Caesar salad. Both were well-executed and delicious. My husband ordered the wild mushroom ravioli and loved them. I had the lamb chops and was equally impressed. Watch the horseradish mustard on top of each chop. Its potent, so a little goes a long way!"

  • "It was my second time at Mahogany Grill and it was just as wonderful as the first time. This time my Sweetie took me here for my birthday dinner. The hostess was very gracious, our waiter was very attentive, and we were seated at a very special table. Our dinner was excellent - Tom had the rib-eye steak which he said was cooked to perfection, and I had the pistachio encrusted halibut - also excellent and cooked to perfection! Our salads were also very good, and the gluten-free bread was a very nice surprise. Thanks for a terrific birthday Mahogany Grill!"

  • "Understated elegance. Soft lighting. Attentive service. Lots of tempting menu choices. The elk medallion was tender, lean, and tasty, not gamey. We dressed "high casual" and fit right in. This was a special dinner celebration for hubby and me, and we would do it again next time in Durango!"

  • "My wife and I had a very nice dinner here at 6 pm on a Thursday evening. My halibut and her mushroom ravioli were delicious. Although our waiter was very attentive, our entrees took 45 minutes to be served. Our waiter said that was because of two large parties."

  • "The restaurant was an elegant delight. The dining area was beautifully furnished with fine period pieces and afforded private dining in intimate booths if desired. We had the New York strip which was an ample portion served with tasty mashed potatoes and steamed carrots. The service was attentive, but not overbearing. The pricing was a very good value. I recommend the early dining menu for price conscious diners like me."

  • "We planned this dinner in advance of traveling to Durango. My wife and I ordered a chicken entree and the house favorite Elk tenderloin. The chicken was prepared properly but the Elk came out rare after being ordered medium and the entire plate had cooled since being assembled and was served that way. The waitstaff eventually came by to ask how things were but by that time it was too late to send back Elk entree. Buyer Beware."

  • "When we arrived there were 8 people waiting in the reception area. We didn't see the hostess until she emerged from the back to take the group to their table. For about 10 minutes another couple and we wondered what was going on, since we both had reservations. I thought the waiter said, "pine nut crusted marlin" for the special. What I got was a marlin steak cooked medium-well with some chopped peanuts on top. I asked how they prepared the marlin and was told medium - I was expecting a little lighter coloring in the center. If I misheard the waiter say, "peanut crusted marlin", I would expect a crust and not just chopped peanuts sprinkled on top. Probably won't return for a while, if at all. Your mileage may vary. Nice Victorian motif."

  • "The dinner for 8 July was a major step down from our dinner at the grill on 7 July. The 8 July meal for my Surf and Turf was definitely over priced for what one got. Both the steak and the shrimp were over cooked, the plating was not near as attractive as the elk tenderloin the prior night. My wife ordered gnocchi and mushroom and while the tomato sauce made the dish there were only 4 pieces of gnocchi in the dish, however it was loaded with the pearl onions, a disappointment. Five star all Monday evening for the Elk tenderloin, salad and dessert The problem we think Monday there was no melodrama and the kitchen staff could devote their time to the menu meals. Tues night there was a show, it looked like the staff was over whelmed."

  • "Beautiful surroundings for wonderfully inventive dishes. The historic setting was stunning. While they had run out of my first choice my second was amazing. The wait staff was very attentive. There were six of us two preteens and one teenager. One of the preteens is extremely picking but she was able to find something on the kids menu. I had been worried about that as I must have missed the fact they had a kids menu on their website."

My friend and I are both gluten free and they offered GF bread at the table (nice touch). We both had blueberry/hazelnut salads which were delicious! I also had the tofu steak - very tasty but a small portion. I loved the ambiance and can see this being my special occasion spot in Durango."

  • "Last time we visited this restaurant in February, 2014, we were treated to an alcoholic and food tastings before we ordered dinner, which we found very appealing. Not this time. The bread basket with a wonderful calamari olive, garlic, and mayo dip was as per our last visit. This time had, Blueberry Hazelnut Summer Salad, Pork Belly Chicharrones, Strawberry Feta and Fennel Stuffed Avocado, and Buttermilk Brick Quail. All were adequate to very good (quail). Feta and fennel flavors were difficult to taste in the avocado and the flavor of the pork bellies was disappointing for thses appetizers. Service was not as attentive as it should have been."

  • "The food and service at this restaurant were excellent. The turn down came when we received the check and noticed a bowl of soup had been added that we did not order. Then, after that was reconfigured, we checked the drink prices and an extra amount had been added to one of the drinks. The waiter did take off the entire price of the drink, but by then we were dismayed at not being able to trust your bill. This was not a cheap dinner."

  • "We took our out of town relatives to the MG for dinner and it was terrific. We were able to enjoy a leisurely dinner - no pressure to give up our table. The early evening menu was very nice. However the best dish was the elk. Everyone had a taste and loved it. We would definitely go back."

  • "we went there on mothers day for dinner. the hostess never said welcome or happy mothers day. nothing. took 10 minutes for our waitress to come to our table. she was new and very inexperienced. again, no acknowledgement of the day, nothing. no welcome. still dont know her name. over the next 15-20 we had to ask another waiter or busser to get our waters, her wine, bread, drinks for the kids. when our food did come my wifes flatiron steak which was supposed to be medium, looked like a hockeypuck with runny cream of wheat around it which i guess was the mashed potatoes? sent it back. after another 15-20 of her new order not coming back, everyone was done with dinner and we just paid and left. she never ate on mothers day. horrible. "

  • "Mahogany Grille had to have had some major kitchen issues because we had the worst service we've ever had there. Our appetizers were forever getting to our table & the size of them was extremely disappointing. We ordered 3 for a group of 6 adults. Not everyone even got a taste. Our food took forever getting to our table and while it tasted very good, it was not hot. Only warm in some instances. Our server was a very nice guy but we didn't see much of him, I'm wondering if he was helping out in the kitchen. This used to be our favorite restaurant but after this night I'm not sure that we will go back. Too bad because it is a beautiful place."

Several in our group ordered ravioli which clearly was not house-made as it was still frozen in the middle, and also came with a very thick cream sauce. Had to send them back. Dessert was just ok. With so many great restaurants in Durango, they need to step up their game."

  • "I have been to the Mahogany Grille several times and always had excellent experiences. This time was no exception. The menu has a good range of items, including offerings for more sophisticated palates and, importantly, for those who prefer more classic or simple meat, fish or vegetable items. On this occasion, the entree specials were all exceedinly tempting. The service was friendly and attentive without being rushed. The historic ambiance of the Strater carries over to the Mahogany Grill, and it is extremely pleasant to be there, whether for a special occasion or for a "regular" dinner. My only suggestion would be for a more robust and changing list of wines by the glass. I recommend the Grille enthousiastically and without hesitation."

  • "The live music from the bar next door was great--just the right volume to enjoy, but still talk to your date. The special was excellent, even on a Wednesday. My husband and I had dinner there for our wedding anniversary and it was quite intimate and romantic. I felt that the server and hostess came to our table too often, but that is probably personal preference as I prefer to be left alone. If you appreciate an attentive staff,you will enjoy a dinner there."

  • "We had an early dinner on a Sunday night. The restaurant was pretty much empty but the bar that is separated by a door was rolling. It was quite noisy, so the noise level was high. Lots of yelling and loud laughing. Not a deal breaker, but definitely distracting. The salads were cold out of the fridge and nothing special, yin yang soup was delicious. Our entrees were good. I had the potato crusted chicken breast, which was good, but the chard was not my cup of tea and there was a ton of it. My husband had beef and he commented that it was good, but the mashed potatoes didn't taste like real potatoes. Overall a good experience, but noise and a couple mediocre menu items made it not completely perfect."
