Diner Reviews
  • "We brought a Groupon for Magnolia Thomas and we absolutely loved everything about the restaurant including the history. They were very nice and professional and worked with us to give us a great experience. Can't wait to come back and try lunch."

  • "We privately referred to our evening as "Home Cooking, Dressed Up." The menu was typical for what we enjoy at home, with extra special flavorings and side dishes. Everything was very nice: Excellent service, food and ambience. We will definitely make Magnolia Thomas one of our favorite restaurants."

  • "We are looking forward to returning Loved the food and the way it was decorated. Waitress was very friendly and eager to please We were a group of four and all dishes were delicious"

  • "My meal was good but my friends and husband said there's was excellent. Everything was cooked as ordered, service was fantastic and the menu was unique."

  • "Very nice Sunday brunch. Food was excellent. The service was cordial but short of competent. Serving during brunch is not to hard, keep the coffee full, clear the dirty plates. Oh yeah I forgot a point about service, bring the correct receipt back when you run my card. Oh yeah I forgot, don't disappear. So forgive the sarcasm, back to the review. Food was excellent, eggs Benedict was made to order and absolutely perfect. The Buffett selection was good especially that buttermilk friend chicken with black eye pea salsa, wow! I would go back again, just don't have high expectations for the service. Again the servers were nice, just not the best."

  • " The evening was a special occasion and the staff went out of their way to provide an incredible experience including a complementary bottle of champagne. One of the very few restaurants that creates an ambiance where you can have a normal conversation without having to yell. Waitress was most accommodating."

  • "We had a great evening with the four of us, food was good and service was very good. Guitar player was good but could have turned it down so we could carry on a conversation"

  • "I never found any reviews that mentioned this, but the brunch is a small buffet that's like something one would find at a cheap hotel. Bland scrambled eggs, bacon like shoe leather, small pastries, and some off-putting fish. I would expect a restaurant that requires reservations to have menus, but what do I know? We stood in line for ten minutes, finished eating in five, and had no interest in seconds. So much for the surprise birthday brunch for my girlfriend. We tried to salvage it by getting one of the desserts (included in price). The chocolate mousse was not advertised as just chocolate Cool Whip in a glass, but that's what it was. After a mild allergic reaction, we sat around for twenty minutes waiting for our check. Lesson learned."

  • "Chose Magnolia Thomas for our anniversary dinner after checking out many area menus. Food was very good and cooked perfectly, though we were not wowed. Probably would not return for dinner, just due to the pricing. May return to try brunch."

  • "This is a great place to enjoy fantastic food with your love. The atmosphere is conducive to quiet conversations while savoring tasty food. Our server was perky, smiling and attended to our needs without being always hovering. The live guitar music was a plus without being loud."

  • "We ordered 2 different chicken dishes, one with artichokes and dried tomatoes over whipped potatoes and one with jalapeno mango salsa on top with rice. They were both divine. The restaurant was not busy so it was very quiet. I like being able to make reservations online. We were happy with everything although the prices were a bit high. But, that is ok since we loved the food."

  • "Wonderful dining experience. We plan on dining with them again. The food was delicious. The service was spot on."

  • "We had heard rave reviews and were slightly disappointed. The wait staff never told us we could order items from the kitchen we over heard another patron. They advertise Belgian Waffles...never saw any. The buffet is set up in a manor that the chef has to walk in front of everything to check on food items and replace items. Overall it was just OK......don't think we will make the trip back."

  • "We were impressed by the sunday brunch. The food was fantastic and the price was reasonable. We definitely plan to go back. The look of the restaurant would also make it a great date night dinner spot, quiet and romantic!"

  • " The food was delicious. The atmosphere was great. The prices were rather high. I expected the place to be busier, but very few tables were filled. Our dinner was at 6 pm. The only real negative feedback was that we ordered shirmp and grits (which was an appetizer) and there was maybe a teaspoon of grits. The appetizer was delicious, but we felt the portion of grits was pretty commical. The other appetizers were well portioned. Other than that, my table ordered a variety of items including, fried green tomatoes, duck, medalions, watermelon and goat cheese among others. Everything was scrumptious. Wait staff pleasant. Also, we used a groupon. No issue with that."

  • "Cute restaurant, pretty grounds. Hostess was friendly, did not wait long for table. Not too many items to choose from on the buffet. Food was not hot, just warm. When we went up to serve ourselves, 2 trays were empty no idea what was in them. One tray in the back looked like some kind of meat dish, no idea, almost empty. A server was there briefly, I asked him what was in one of the trays, it was cheese grits, he never announced I'm going to replenish these 2 empty trays, left us guessing. Another tray had what appeared to be either fried chicken or fried fish, took a gamble, turned out to be fried chicken, it was good. The server had disappeared again, so could not ask. Our table server Danielle, was friendly and courteous."

  • "While the food was very good the restaurant was practically empty. We went on a sunday evening around 7:30. This is first time in quiet awhile so not sure if this is usual or not."

  • "We went for our anniversary and it did not disappoint. Had the coffee rubbed bistro filet. It had a wonderful taste and was extremely tender. I would recommend it highly. Great evening, Great Service and Great Food. Hard to beat."

  • "We've dined here twice: first time - amazing! Food & presentation were spot on! Second time - TOTAL MISS! Scallops were small & rubbery, Talapia was very fishy, presentation on 3:4 dishes was amateur; white wine was almost room temp. Both times, although the kitchen was a bit slow, the service, ambiance and music were wonderful. Our waitress was great! She was very knowledgable and attentive. I felt very bad for her after the second trip. Which, btw, was on a Friday. We left at 8:00 PM & maybe 25% of the tables were full. I think that says a lot! Sadly, we will not be going back anytime soon. We MIGHT give it another try at some point, but it's a lot of money to spend on inconsistent food! Try if you will - hope you go on a "good" night!"

  • "I wish it was open for lunch. It seems to be a nice place for ladies. It was quite empty---so I think it would be very noisy if full. Lots of candles--nice. Wish we could have been outside."

  • "we love going here for date nights. Food is great, service is fabulous, it is a nice warm cozy place."

  • "This is a very nice, quiet place for a wonderful evening meal. The restaurant is an old house that has been rebuilt following a fire, with lovely grounds and a very friendly atmosphere. The food is great. Two in our group had stuffed talapia which was great. One had the filet, which is always wonderful, and the fourth loved her salmon. They also have soft piano music on weekends to add to the atmosphere. A little out of the way, but well worth the trip. Highly recommend this place."

  • "We met friends for dinner at The Magnolia Thomas restaurant and each of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Everything was prepared perfectly and all plate presentations were very attractive. The nut crusted pork medallions were very tasty and something I'd not seen on menus before. Seafood stuffed tilapia was filled with flavors and the coffee rubbed beef filet delicious. The restaurant has a fire pit outside, is very clean, and has a friendly staff. Leave the chains behind and support this dining spot....you will not be sorry! "

  • "Other restaurants should bring your water and bread immediately upon seating as an intro to your waitress....above the rest!! Food was fresh, tasty and flavors danced on your palate...Definitely returning to this restaurant."

  • "Lovely, spacious dining areas. Early for 5pm reservation but seated at once by a window as requested on Open Table and served beverages. Soon, Hot out of the oven bread with a delicious dipping sauce arrived. Baby Spinach Salad with raspberry dressing with perfect. Menu filled with tempting entree's. We chose... Blackened shrimp and stone cheddar grits stacked on fried green tomato and Magnolia's Fried Chicken breast, southern kettle fried to perfection, in stone cheddar grits with fried green tomatoes, topped with our signature black-eyed pea salsa. Georgia would be proud of the amazing Peach Cobbler, best I ever had. We enjoyed 1 1/2 hours of leisurely dining with a superb server and music, an talented Acoustic Guitarist."

  • "Magnolia Thomas has become a family favorite for us. When my Mother comes to visit, we always schedule at least one Sunday brunch here. The ingredients are all fresh. The dishes are old favorites that have an up-scale twist. More food than I should eat at one time but it is worth every calorie! The eggs benedict and waffles were perfect. The grits were rich and satisfying. The salmon and fried chicken were cooked to perfection! I loved the tomato basil soup which was perfect for this cool rainy Sunday morning. Our server was attentive and friendly. She made the visit even more enjoyable. We will return again!"

  • "Took the family out for a Mother's Day dinner together. The food and service were excellent and everyone had a wonderful time. This restaurant was a great find, and is several steps above any of the local chain restaurants. You won't be disappointed."

  • "3 generations attended the brunch for Mother's Day. Although there was a large assortment of food, they did have a small problem about replenishing, thus making it necessary to make repeated trips up to check on things. The price was quite high so I don't think we will go back for a special occasion. The service was excellent & there was a college student making balloon figures for the kids. This was a nice treat. The restaurant was clean and the food delicious !!! We will go back again. "

  • "Magnolia Thomas Restaurant is a great find in Woodstock. It is a nice fine dining restaurant that is well priced, has great food and wonderful service. There has never been a meal here that has been bad. They have an amazing brunch on Sunday. If you are looking to try something new and live in the area I highly recommend this restaurant. I would also recommend Pat as a server. She's been with the restaurant for 4 years and is a fantastic server. "

  • "Pitiful is what comes to mind. They advertised a " selection of meats" , hmm- they had bacon, sausage, grits, scrambled eggs, kid food- fried chicken fingers, mac and cheese..I forgot the shrimp and over cooked salmon. Where was the ham?? Roast beef, lamb? The quiche , never came out while we were there. I get what I pay for though. All deserts, mind one( chocolate mouse that had syrupy fruit juice all over it, nasty!!) ,had nuts. Ever hear of nut allergies??? My whole family was so disappointed. Never go back there again."

  • "Visited for the first time this past Sunday for Easter. The brunch had some excellent foods. The peach cobbler and tomato soup were out of this world yummy. The salad and homemade dressings were also excellent. The only disappointing item I had was the shrimp and grits. The small shrimp tasted like they came from a can. However, the other foods made up for it. I would have suggested adding a couple more breakfast meats and perhaps a vegetable quiche to the buffet selections."

  • "I brought my boyfriend here for a romantic, quiet brunch and was not disappointed. The lovely buffet was filled with scrumptious food. Fresh salad, fruit and dressings. Eggs, ssg., bacon, biscuits and luscious gravy. Salmon, fish cakes to die for, steak marsala, buttermilk fried chicken. I've probably missed something here. Ordering along with that included in the price Eggs Benedict, waffle (which was lovely) and an omelet. Dessert, the Bread Pudding is something to write home about, and the chocolate mousse. Yum. I pushed for the table I wanted in an open area and got it, the service was really good. I think the wait staff is trying to be a little southern conservative, or something in that vain. I prefer a little more relaxed."
