When you name your restaurant after Trappist monks who've spent centuries perfecting their craft, you're serious about your beer. That's why we hired a master to craft our house brews and why our beer list spans the globe. With everything from refreshing pilsners that match the lightness of our thin-crust pizza to dark, rich ales that stand up to our decadent burgers, you're certain to find a new favorite at The Lucky Monk. We're sure that our Prime beef burgers — served with hand-cut fries — will be the juiciest you've ever had. Our other house specialty is pizza. It is crisp and generously topped with fresh ingredients. And we round out our menu with vibrant, flavorful salads; a handful of classic, satisfying American entrées; and some sweet surprises.

Whether you're settling in at our bar or relaxing with your friends and family in our comfortable dining room, our delicious food, drink and warm welcome are sure to elevate your soul.

Diner Reviews
  • "My husband and I both ordered the burgers on our waitress' recommendation. They were excellent. Beer flight was a great value and prices all around were reasonable. We will definately go back."

  • " We were headed to the Arlington Heights fest and wanted some good eats instead of Carney food. what a good call. The burger was juicy and cooked to perfection."

  • "We love coming to lucky monk, the tritica wheat ale is my favorite. It might be wise to make a reservation on the weekends though."

  • "We ordered the pretzel trio appetizer which consisted of three unexpectedly enormous pretzels. Way too much for two people, but very tasty. For our entrée, we shared the Sunrise Burger which was disappointing. The topping were good, but the burger itself was unremarkable and not particularly flavorful. I was underwhelmed by the dessert offerings, but we went with the Cookie Skillet which was just okay. I'd like to see some lighter options on the dessert menu. I did the beer sampler and in my opinion, the only worthwhile varieties were the IPA and the Belgian. The other samples were bland. Our server, Donato, was excellent. If we come back, his service will be the reason we'd be willing to give the restaurant another chance."

  • "Our waiter was very polite and easy going. She was very easy to talk too and gave us recommendations on what to order as it was our first time there. Will definitely be returning."

  • "After a long day in downtown, we decided to come back to the burbs to have a great meal and try some beers before calling it a day. We had immediate seating with reservation time. Awesome service with detailed descriptions to food and beers. Attention to detail. Gladly served the kids when they asked for everything under the sun. Ended the evening with a conversation with the server about coming back and sitting outside."

  • "We celebrated a birthday lunch this week for 3 friends. The food was great, service outstanding and the outside view amazing. To top it off, our wonderful waitress brought out a birthday brownie surprise for all to share. We will be back!"

  • "I've been to The Lucky Monk several times and I have never been disappointed. Their hamburgers are to die for and are very unique. They have a nice menu besides burgers - a little something for everyone. The servers are very good, very attentive. They aren't bugging you every 2 minutes asking if you need anything. They check back at reasonable intervals. I brought some friends on this visit who had never been there and they raved about it."

  • "we got the steak and a fish and chips both were very bland, I generally do not use a lot of extra seasoning and I had to."

  • "It is nice every now and then to enjoy some fried food, Lucky Monk can handle that for you. It was all too good, but if you are watching what you're eating this is not the place for you. The food was good, the service only fair. I wouldn't rush back but I am glad I tried it!"

  • "My husband and I decided to step outside the box and try something new. The food was great, and reasonably priced, and the service matched it! We even had a table visit from two managers, checking on our experience. Wow, we had a great time and we will definitely come back again!"

  • "We took my sister and her husband here to celebrate his birthday. The food and beer were excellent. Our server, "Red" was patient and very helpful. He even brought out a complimentary ice cream sundae for my brother-in-law and sang Happy Birthday with us!"

  • "I came to the Lucky Monk to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. Originally I was nervous that I made the right choice, although I have been there before and liked it wanted him to as well since it was his day. Overall it was a great experience, and was the right choice. Thank you for a great dinner!"

  • "Substituting fries was available but every side "option" I requested was not available to replace my fries. The beer flight comes with every in house beer. I think it would be good to let customers pick 3 or 4 beers at a lower cost. We can then choose a full glass or possibly a second flight. (Summer shandy was one of the beers on the flight) They have mini tacos. The dish comes with 5 tacos but I'm unable to mix the meats? maybe make large tacos if I can't mix them up. Or allow us to try 1 to 2 types? Our server was good and I don't think we are picky diners what so ever, but the menu needs to be more clear about options. Or rather no options. I felt like I was dining in at a fast food burger/pizza joint with servers."

  • "We come in from Michigan once a year for a horse event and make it "ritual" to visit the Lucky Monk. Last year we didn't have reservations and waited over 2 hours to get a table, but it was worth it. This year - making reservations online was so convenient! As per usual - the food and staff are terrific and we always have a fantastic time. It is our favorite stop when competing in the Fox River Valley Pony Club event in Barrington."

  • "My husband is in the Monk Society, so we dine here at least once a month. Last Friday I tried a new item on the menu, the chicken kebab, and was disappointed. The chicken lacked flavor and some pieces were dry. The vegetables were too large, very big pieces of onion that were still slightly raw. The potato hash had great flavor, but was very rich with the cheese, so I couldn't eat much of it. My husband ordered fish and chips, but the fish could have used more seasoning. When I told our server that I didn't like my food, the manager came over immediately, asked what was wrong and took it off our bill. We were very pleased with the level of customer service. I never expected to get the meal comped when I had eaten most of it!"

  • "Located less than a minute from the South Barrington AMC 30 Theaters, The Lucky Monk is a perfect spot for dinner before the movies or drinks afterward. The service was quick and friendly. The burgers are delicious and huge. The fries are some of the best I've had anywhere!"

  • "Food was decent, service was a bit slow but we were not in a rush. Good pub scene. Brew their own beers. Meatball sandwich was so-so. Not enough meatball. Otherwise there sides were good. Poutine, truffle fries, and chili. Stick to the pub fare. that's what they are good at."

  • "The bar area is nice (but small and crowded) and their beer samplers are outstanding and reasonably priced too. Their burgers are great. Only complaints from the group of 6 I came with: calamari was a bit on the small size, compared to say their fondue or fried pickles. Bringing the food out took a long while, but it's was fine for our group who were socializing anyway. Parking is horrible, but they have valet - it wasn't clear if it was free or not. There's no other lot to park in, it's just Lucky Monks - period. They must park across the street or in the AMC and trek back, I have no idea. Me and my husband want to come back, sit at the bar, and drink the beer samplers! The best part!"

  • "We love the Monk. We go at least once a week. So is my review biased? Maybe. But I've never had bad service, the burgers are awesome, the cheese curds are a must-have. Do they have the beer selection of some other places? No. But do you really need a Smoked Wheat Berry Saison aged in barrels that have been blessed by the Dalai Lama? If so, you need to check in with your therapist."

  • "They are more concerned about selling beer than they are about the quality of the food. I completely get that concept but if that's how your going to run your business then maybe your servers should be trained pairing certain beers with certain food items. Instead they are just blindly pushing any type of beer into you. Overall the good was okay due to being lukewarm. The manager did apologize for this, however I do not think I will be back. Once the server saw that my table was not ordering a bunch of alcohol he defiantly paid more attention to his other tables."

  • "I chose The Lucky Monk after reading good reviews online. We were just in the area for the weekend. We had gotten in late and I was able to easily make reservations on OpenTable. We arrived ten minutes early and were sat almost immediately. My husband was grumpy from the long travel day but as soon as we sat down, his mood immediately changed. Our server was really friendly and very quick with our drinks and appetizers. She made great suggestions for our main dishes. The pizzas were really great! So were the pretzel and empanada apps. If we lived in the area, we would definitely come back often."

  • "After the waitress took away our food, another 30 minutes had passed by before a second waitress came by and asked if we where waiting on the bill. The whole time we where waiting we saw our original waitress looking over at the table, talking with coworkers, and then folding napkins. After leaving however, my girlfriend had forgotten her purse and upon returning to the restaurant the hostess had remembered us, and immediately handed her the left behind purse. Besides the extremely long wait for our check, the overall experience was good enough for a return trip."

  • "Our server was slooooooow. Luckily we weren't in a hurry, but it's still frustrating to be left for over 15 min. The positives are below + Cheese Curds Pear & Elderflower Martini Carrot Cake Price point Sweet Potato fries"

  • "We went to Lucky Monk because they represent themselves as a Craft Brewery specializing in Belgium Beers. What it is in reality is a massive restaurant with a small brewery and a limited beer selection. Seriously some franchise restaurants have a better beer selection than this place. It didn't help that it was our server's first day and he had no idea what he was doing or any knowledge of the menu or different beer types available. That being said the beer was good and the food delicious. It sucks that you have to join their little club in order to take any of the house beers home with you. Fortunately I brew my own beer though so it's all good. Go here because the food is great and there's an interesting vibe. "

  • "Waited an hour to b seated. Ordered 2 burgers. 50 minutes went by and no food. My wife and I asked how much longer and was told she wasn't sure the kitchen is really backed up. After about 5 minutes the table next to us received food even though they got there almost 20 min after us. We paid for our drinks and walked out. When asked the manager for some type of compensation he looked at us like we were crazy. Will never go back again and have already posted on face book and twitter to stay away from lucky monk. I've never had such a bad experiance at a restaraunt. And not just one time but the same situation happened twice. Once on a Friday and this passed was on a Saturday. "

  • "Definitely make a reservation or plan on waiting an hour. We made one but got there early and it was packed so we enjoyed a drink in the cute patio area (organic strawberry beer for the win!) Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. Food was great (steak tacos for me, Reuben for hubs and we shared the Trappist trio-fried pickles, fried cheese curds and truffle fries). Only complaint was a very long wait on the entrees considering we put them in with the appetizer order. This is one of our local faves and will definitely be back! "
