Diner Reviews
  • "Stopped in for a 10 yr anniversary dinner. Everything was perfect. Great food, great service, and a million dollar view. We have been to many restaurants with a view. This was the first that the food and service surpassed the view!"

  • "Had lunch there during day trip to Santa Monica. Great views of bech and pier. Crowded therefore a bit noisy but sevice and food excellent. Mildly pricy, US$100 for two mains and two beers each."

  • "The food and service were both great! We had a fantastic dinner and the kids were well accommodated."

  • "My friend and I visited the Lobster on the occasion of her 60th birthday. We were seated right next to the window looking out on the Santa Monica Pier and the Pacific Ocean. It was a dazzlingly beautiful day and the view was breathtaking. Our server was knowledgable and skilled in presentation of our meals. I was surprised by the Dungeness Crab and Shrimp Louie because it was non-traditional, but delicious. My friend had lobster, which was huge and costly, but she enjoyed every bite. I already recommended this restaurant to friends."

  • "If you are looking for a great spot to take that special someone, a celebration or a work event dinner The Lobster is the place to go. With their amazing staff, the quality food and awesome views especially during the day during sunset (Ocean and lit up Santa Monica Pier) you will find you made a great choice afterwards with the experience you will have received."

  • "We slipped into The Lobster for an afternoon bite. Parking was a little tight but the valet service made everything work. Started out at the bar and even though it was slightly busy and it took us a while to get our drinks but the bartender rewarded our patience with a free round to start off the afternoon. Seating is a little cramped but the view is well worth it. We devoured two dozens oysters and some steamed clams. Exceptional body and flavor. The lobster was to die for. Headed back to the bar to relax and waste away the afternoon people watching in Santa Monica. People watching is always fun in SM. Life's good. Looking forward to checking this place out at night."

  • "Very solid experience. Outstanding view of Santa Monica beach. The gave us a window table without our even asking. We had steamed lobster, grilled halibut, and the crab cakes. My 8 yr old son actually had the lobster--first lobster ever for him. He enjoyed it and said that he would try it again. Since he couldn't eat it all, my wife and I also got to enjoy the lobster and can also attest that it was very good. Overall, All of the food was prepared well. Would definitely return."

  • "WE COME ABOUT TWICE A YEAR FOR THE FABULOUS LOBSTER. WAS NOT QUITE UP TO PAR THIS TIME. ALSO, THE DESSERT MENU HAD CHANGED SINCE WE WERE LAST THERE....NO WONDERFUL FRUIT COBBLER, WE REALLY COULDN'T FIND A DESSERT WE WANTED TO ORDER."

  • "Very nice ambiance with probably the best view of Santa pier landmark. Go during sunset for spectacular view. The barramundi over risotto was very good."

  • "We thought this place will be like Chart House we have here in VA -- big and OK food. We wanted to see the sunset so this restaurant was recommended. However we were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant was not that big and the food was great. We had fresh oysters, clams, salads and seafood linguine and they were just perfect. We had the best apple crisp dessert we ever had -- crispy and not too sweet. The service was wonderful. And to top it all, the sunset was very beautiful."

  • "The Lobster is a favorite for sure. The food is amazing and delicious. The server and host(ess) were polite, recommended great food and kept the glasses full. We had oysters, calamari and prawns, seafood linguine, and the molten chocolate cake. They opened the panoramic windows at sunset and let the gorgeous hazy light filter through until it was dark. It is on the expensive side, but worth every penny. I've been many times and I will happily continue to dine in this lovely location for years to come!"

  • "Lucked out by getting a last minute reservation. Staff was amazing from the minute we arrived. Food was outstanding. The clam chowder was the best I have ever had and the lobster was perfectly prepared. The service was spectacular. Even had a celebrity sighting which added to an already perfect evening."

  • "Good-The prawn appetizer was really good. American steamed lobster- pretty good, but the tail was a bit overdone. Green beans were good but potatoes were overcooked. View was awesome of pier. Bad-The host/waitress friendly but delivery of food way too slow. Waited 20 mins to be seated and 35 to get my food. Again, potatoes were terrible. I actually had to spit one out because it tasted burnt. Ugly-Noise level was absolutely ridiculous, I could barely enjoy my dinner. If you want a quiet place to dine, this is not it. Also, the tables are too close together, you can only enter each table from one side. I prefer not to be able to reach over and grab bread from the table next to me. Just ok, kinda pricey for the ambience and quality of food."

  • "Had lunch on a beautiful sunny day. We arrived early for our reservation, and we were seated quickly at a nice table near the front window facing the ocean. The waitress was friendly and efficient. The lobster roll, and the truffle fries were fantastic."

  • "Went to see cirque du soleil so wanted to have late lunch beforehand. We started in the bar and the waitress was so unfriendly and snobbish that I thought it was a bad sign of things to come. We almost thought about leaving. She acted like she didnt want to be there. Then there was Michael, our waiter. He made us forget about crabby girl. He is hands down the best waiter I've ever had. We even spoke to the manager to compliment how enjoyable he is and the experience with crabby girl. All four of us loved our food. I had the pork belly and shrimp sandwich. Heaven....we sat right next to window looking over the pier. Honestly any seat, has a great view. Will return."

  • "The biggest reason I would come back is the taste of the food; the food was so delicious. Best filet mignon I've ever tasted and also best lobster. Great and friendly service. Beautiful scenic view of Santa Monica beach. Perfect restaurant to watch the sunset from."

  • "What can I say. The entire experience was wonderful. The service was perfect; the ocean view with the pier and the ferris wheel was fantastic; and to top it off, the food couldn't have been better."

  • "Be prepared to spend a little more of your budget here. Great lobster appetizer and salad as we were on a budget. Enjoyed the view and happy that we made lunch reservations."

  • "We eat at Lobster's whenever we come into town for Cirque Du Soleil - it's the best upscale restaurant with reasonable walking distance of the pier. Décor and service are great, impressive wine list and food is quite good - not 5 star, but very good. It's a little crowded (a lot of tables very close together), so it's a little noisy on weekend nights. But we will be back!"

  • "It was my son's birthday and we had a blast! The nice gentleman at the door gave us the table with the view of the pier of Santa Monica And our waiter "Robert" was friendly and attentive to our needs. I definitely recommend this restaurant to anybody who enjoys lobsters and crab cakes! Please try the macadamia nuts bread pudding for dessert! Outstanding!"

  • "Had the steamed lobster, crab cakes and mahi mahi at our table. Everything was delicious. Waiter was friendly and helpful. Do not hesitate to book your reservation - although its a very noisy atmosphere when crowded."

  • "I've been here a couple of times, the latest for my mom's birthday dinner when she visited from out of town. They sat us at an amazing table, which truly complemented the wonderful food. I highly recommend this restaurant for special occasions. :)"

  • "I took my girl friend to her birthday lunch. Food are always amazing and very welcoming staff. The restaurant is definitely one of my favorite restaurants. Gorgeous view, great food and service, what can you ask more!"

  • "Great spot. Great view. A bit pricey for the food quality though. Also glass of wine is $15? Seems over the top. I ordered a steak sandwhich whic was really no better then something i would get from a chain or mom n pop place. If you order lobster a good idea is to ask waiter to open and deshell it. Pretty sloppy operation if your not used to eating a whole lobster. But considering the view and location its a good spot. I would recommend it for a special occasion or tourists The Decor is nice too"

  • "I was disappointed by the lunch menu. Rather limited. Lunch menu several years before was a full dinner menu. But food was excellent, even tho I had to order Fish (Barrimundi) and Chips. Prices are high. Setting is terrific with a walk on the Santa Monica Pier afterwards to settle down the good food."

  • "The Lobster has it all: great view, great food, and great service. We really enjoyed the Pistachio crusted Mahi-Mahi and the Grilled Mexican Halibut. Both were large enough, and with enough other things on the plate, that we didn't need to order side dishes. And, that left room for dessert! The apple crisp (or crumble?) with cinnamon ice cream was excellent. Wait staff was quite attentive and responsive. If only the clouds had cooperated at sunset, it would have been the perfect dinner!"

  • "I made reservations for this restaurant after reading reviews about the place. I was on vacation in Malibu and thought it would be a good idea to treat my fiancé to this place. The place is beautiful the service was excellent. The food was amazingly good but very princely. I do not recommend this place for a first date because the restaurant was very crowded, and the noise level was pretty high which would make it difficult 'to get to know someone'. Overall I am very happy I dined at the lobster, my guy enjoyed it as well."

  • "We brought a friend from the southwest, and we all enjoyed the sunset, excellent service. Two of us had the beet salad and halibut. Especially great."
    Dined on 3/10/2014
  • "Food quality was only fair for the price. Clam chowder, had all of 4 clams-in shells, the rest was potato and carrots. Appetizers and main dishes were warm, including the soup. Servers were attentive. Very energetic noise level, but this may be because this was the day of the L.A. Marathon. Bread was very good along with the accompanying dip. All in all a disappointing dinner."

  • "Siting above the Santa Monica pier the views are exceptional. The menu is limited but when you are going to a place called the lobster you kind of know their specialty. Excellent place for a special occasion as well as impressing out of town guests. Although we went for dinner this time I really recommend the out door patio for lunch or watching the sunset. They serve anything on the menu and it is really very casual and relaxed"
