Diner Reviews
  • "Delightfully surprised to find upscale high end dining at the top of the Santa Monica Pier. Oysters were excellent, seared scallops were perfectly done, service was professional and knowledgeable. Highly recommend for seafood foodies!"

  • "After my recommending taking a visitor from England here to some neighbors last week - and they all went for dinner and loved it - I too took a little party to lunch to celebrate an old friend's birthday. It was absolutely wonderful, from the booking and their accommodating us with a perfect window view, to all the food ordered, and the flexibility of the wait staff in accommodating the birthday woman's substitutions! We will definitely be back and always have The Lobster on a "must go" place for all visitors to L.A. as well. The quintessential experience, with the food and impeccable service to back it up!"

  • "In the last 5 years, this place has gone downhill. Even after I felt that the service and food had gone downhill, I came back to give it another chance and unfortunately, it hasn't gotten better. It's not exactly a "bad" experience, but not worth the wait, the difficulty in getting a reservation, the expense for parking, and the price of entrees."

  • "We were given a wonderful table next to the windows overlooking the Santa Monica Pier--couldn't have been a better location at sunset! The food was excellent. The three of us ordered the same dinner: crab cakes , truffle fries, and roasted asparagus. We all agreed that it was delicious. I reluctantly withheld a perfect score for service because a couple of times we had to work to get our waiter's attention., but probably understandable considering the very full house."

  • "We are Japanese group, mostly can't understand English. But,we could enjoy our lunch in a family way,as their service was so good! Of course, every dishes were grate tast!...oysters,salad,clam chowder, grilled lobster...so nice!! I felt a satisfaction completely, but one regret. I couldn't have any dessert and coffee because I was full(;^_^A"

  • "We were celebrating 2 birthdays so I requested a window table. They seated us at a great location. The management and the wait staff could have not been more accommodating and gracious. Food was excellent. The oysters outstanding. We were a party of 6 and everyone ordered something different. Not one complaint. Each meal was served to perfection."

  • "We came here on a recommendation from the front desk at the Beverly Hills. Spot on. Although mainly a seafood restaurant - as it would be given it's location - I chose their New York steak which was cooked to perfection and as tasty as any I've had in years. My partner had halibut and reported it to be just as well cooked. We started with oysters and sashimi, also excellent and watched the sunset as we dined. Thoroughly endorsed."

  • "As usual, the Lobster did not disappoint! The food, service, and view make going there a real treat!!"

  • "I took my girlfriend here for a date, and it was fantastic! Timothy was our server, and upon our return to The Lobster, we'll ask for him again. He was polite, courteous, and very professional. Thank you for the experience, and I look forward to returning!"

  • "I have been dining at the Lobster for years. Every experience is ALWAYS consistent and wonderful. The food is always fantastic and the service professional. From the moment you walk in to the time you leave we are so well taken care of. It is truly one of my favorite dining spots in LA. Thank you for another memorable meal and Father's Day experience."

  • "It was Father's Day so the place was filled. We had a late reservation, but decided to come about 1/2 hour earlier for a cocktail. They had a table and sat us right away. The waiter was great, very knowledgeable. The menu had changed and I was not crazy about it. I was expecting to order my favorite entree, but it was gone. That was a big letdown. Anyway, we all had a lovely meal with a lovely view."

  • "I've gone to the Lobster several times over the past few years, the food quality and service have diminished significantly."

  • "Studied the reviews and took a chance. Had a great dinner for Father's day. It was a tight squeeze in the dining room but the staff were so accommodating and were seated quickly. Family of five sat at the corner windows with the view of the pier and the street corner. Kids were hungry and bread dish came so quickly after we were seated. Oyster sampler was delicious and enjoyed the condiments. Fried oysters were good with a good kick of spiciness. Ordered Angus filet mignon with whole lobster, 'black' pasta, crab cakes entree, grilled salmon, and halibut. All were delicious except maybe the halibut was more on the sweet side which were not used to. Overall, a great place to go to experience Santa Monica. Afterwards, head to the pier."

  • "We appreciate the great service whether we reserve in advance or walk in by chance. Love the clam shower, lobster roll and the steamed lobster. We have had good desserts too, when we've had room. Also like the halibut this last time. Interesting preparation."

  • "The dinner was amazing. It was really loud so it was hard to hold a conversation but the view was amazing and the good was great."

  • "Food and service are exceptional, not to mention the gorgeous view! Raw bar, Hamachi sashimi, Black linguini with Shellfish, Scallops... are all amazing. Spiny lobster is their signature but on the pricey side."

  • "We recently dined at your restaurant for an early dinner....the service from the hostess to the waitress was wonderful. The food however was mediocre at best. My appetizer (lobster cocktail) was not appealing at all. The lobster was pale and limp and quite frankly I was not comfortable eating it. Turns out there was NO flavor at all...it was quite awful to be blunt. Our main course was excellent (Scallops and clam chowder) Lastly the drinks from the bar were very weak, in fact I heard another table complaining about it. For the price, I was really disappointed. Not sure what if anything you can do, but thought you should know. (we dine out a lot)"

  • "This was my second time at The Lobster. I had the shellfish pasta and my friend had the scallops. Both were fantastic dishes. The staff were friendly and attentive. On the way out of the restaurant, I noticed an outdoor bar area, which looks tempting for some evening cocktails. I would definitely go back. Be sure to make a reservation, though."

  • "The Shrimp Louie far exceded our expectations, loaded with fresh shrimp and REAL dungeoness crabmeat. .....and many wonderful things The portion was HUGE and delicious and our waiter was a doll. Cant wait to go back!"

  • "Food was as good as the last time we were here. They really squeeze the tables in, so you have no choice but to be friendly with you dinner neighbor. Otherwise a great view, and great food. We went appetizers to dessert for two with wine and Lobster and spent over $300, so plan accordingly. We will return when in the area!"

  • "Despite the silly name, the food is always super fresh and though pricey, is worth the money. Nice kids menu and 3 hour valet parking let's you stroll after lunch. However service is always hit or miss, which is always disappointing"

  • "We came here for a Sunday lunch and it was wonderful. While the food was good it was the service that was the best part of the meal. Our server was attentive and made wonderful suggestions. The views were spectacular and fun to watch. I would recommend this to anyone who would like a nice meal."

  • "I took my daughter-in-law for her birthday this past Monday. I made reservations a week before and asked if we could have a table by the window to enjoy the ocean view. Even though it was a Monday at noon, the host could not get a us seated at the window. The tables were occupied, but I always thought that was why you made a reservation....to save a table for you. The food and service were very good and a small birthday dessert was nice.. I thought the wine list was just alright, and had to settle on an unfamiliar bottle with a slightly high price. "

  • "Came here for mothers day (night before). I ordered the lobster ravioli and was a bit disappointed when my food came... The pasta was a bit pasty and dry. Portions seemed a bit small for the price. The crab cake was amazing! Friendly staff, my daughter liked her pasta from the kids menu. "

  • "Went to the Lobster for Mother's Day lunch. Got a window table overlooking the Santa Monica Pier (it pays to go early and make a reservation). Food and service were outstanding, although the Bloody Mary was just ordinary. Would definitely return and recommend this place. One tip is that ample public parking is available in municipal parking structure just a few blocks inland. Cheaper and much easier than using the valet. Also, they had a child's pasta entree available for only $4 that made my daughter happy. "
