  • "I was really excited to go for brunch and thought at $75 it would be awesome. It wasn't. Beautiful set up but the food didn't deliver. Eggs Benedict in a chafing dish? Bad idea. The muffins were so hard you couldn't cut them with a knife. And the hollandaise had dried on the egg. The egg itself was overcooked. Two mimosas later and $125 per person when it was it's all said and done. Ouch! Major disappointment. I would gladly pay that much if I had a fantastic brunch worth the price tag."

  • "I felt like the service at the Lobby left something to be desired. I arrived on time, and the staff greeted me, then ignored me for ten minutes, despite the fact that no other patrons were ahead of me. They servers were courteous when they brought my tea, but when it was time to pay, they ignored me again. I waited for another twenty minutes for a server to come anywhere near me. I have had afternoon tea all over the world, and I think tea at this establishment has been my least favorite."

  • "We came here for Chef's week dinner and left a bit disappointed. For a place that now has a Michelin Star, the food lacked balance. The gnocchi, in particular, had an overpowering sauce that was a bit too sour. Personally, I eat a bit saltier than most, but the scallop and skirt steak from the main course could have used a little less salt. On the bright side, the service there was great and the live music was a nice addition."

  • "The food was outstanding. The service was slightly flawed despite obvious efforts. 1) two different servers poured are wines by the glass. The first one was pretty skimpy--about a quarter of the glass. The second glass poured by a different server was double the first which was about the normal amount that a glass should be filled. 2) Had a long gap between main entree & dessert. My big criticism is the cost of their wines. All were way expensive. It would be good if they included a few bottles that were more reasonably priced."

  • "Wow this was a shock ....really bad food at one of my favorite city lunches. First the menu has become very limited so even choosing a healthy salad of some sort was impossible. I ordered a beet salad and added shrimp . There were exactly 4 beets and they had a strange pickled flavor. I couldn't see any supposed nuts and shrimp mushy. My friend had a salad with chicken which was tough and didn't look very appetizing . Only 2 other tables at lunch! What's happening here?"

  • "Delicious! The bread was slightly sweet and toasted perfectly. My colleague ordered the pasta with cranberries - it was a teensy serving in a huge bowl with a small reservoir. The presentation was nice, but she said the cranberries were just past their prime. She ordered the beignets, and again, the portion was small though tasty. She was ready for a real meal after the appetizer portion. The wait staff is excellent as expected at the Peninsula. I would return again and order the lobster roll. Loved the tarragon sauce."

  • "We celebrated my sister's birthday with High Tea at the lobby. Because of a major snow storm we were 15 minutes late but since I called ahead, the staff was very gracious sat us immediately. The service was impeccable. There was a nice mix of finger sandwiches and pastries. I personally loved the egg salad wrapped in cucumber and the cured salmon on a soft pretzel. As for the desserts I really enjoyed to complimentary donut sitting in caramel sauce best. My only disappointment was that I specifically mentioned my sister's birthday when I called in to confirm (including spelling her name) and a beautiful birthday dessert with a candle was presented to the table next to us and yet nothing to my sister. Overall a lovely experience."

  • "My friend and I came to The Lobby for dinner during restaurant week and it was fantastic! We had a wonderful waiter who was so attentive to our needs. The food was very good and surprising-we both LOVED the chocolate dessert. Our meal was suprising because we got an unexpected amuse bouche and 2 extra desserts! The cassis marshmallows were wonderful! Plus they gave us a cute little lemon loaf to take home! There is not much in the way of decorations (it looks like the lobby of any other hotel), but we got a window seat that gave a great view of the ice rink."

  • "This is a great gem in the Chicago dining scene. The service is quiet and relaxing. There is live music from a balcony overlooking the dining room. Ask for a table at the window and watch the ice skaters as you begin your romantic evening. My husband and I were guests twice in two weeks. The menu had not changed and there were no additional special dishes for the evening, although we had some of the same dishes that we loved and did try new items."

  • "The whole experience was not as good as the last time I was there. I don't know why but we weren't seated for 30 minutes after our reservation. They apologized for the delay. We waited longer then usual for tea and then for the food. Maybe it was just an off day."

  • "There were four in our group. Food, beverages, and service were outstanding. Were made very welcome by the staff. The only negative had to do with the rather large room which was not an intimate setting. It was rather dark and gloomy at night. We were there on a Monday sub-zero night and there were few other diners. I suspect it is much cheerier during daylight hours."

  • "I am not usually a fan of brunch but The Lobby at The Peninsula hotel has converted me. Besides the gorgeous setting and impeccable service the quality and selection of food is amazing. Brunch around the holidays is over the top in the best possible way. Besides the obligatory omelette, kiddie, desert and salad stations (each done uniquely), there are individual stations for sushi, dim sum, oysters, shellfish, charcuterie, and chocolate besides carving stations for every roast imaginable. Found it by accident a few years ago when staying at the hotel and cannot believe there is no mention of it on their website. Really must be seen to be believed!"

  • "My husband and I had the most amazing lunch at The Lobby. We went to try the restaurant out for restaurant week and were very pleasantly surprised. We ordered from the restaurant week menu, which was fabulous. We had a great mushroom soup. I had pasta and my husband had a chicken thigh. Every course was better than the first, and the desert was to dies for. Aside from the food, the service was superb. We cannot wait to get back to the lobby for dinner."

  • "We tried this restaurant as part of the restaurant week. I tried the seafood bouillabaisse and endives apple ham salad. My husband is a vegetarian. Though he did not have very many options, he was blown by gnocchi and roasted cauliflower. The service was great and the live band was amazing."

  • "We went there for lunch during Restaurant Week. The staff couldn't have been nicer. Most of the food was very good, particularly the mushroom soup, but I didn't care for the pasta--too heavy and not much flavor. The presentation was lovely, particularly the beet salad. The room is beautiful, and the service was first rate except for one thing: they brought us the wrong dessert. Speaking of which, the chocolate dessert did not seem all that fresh. The restroom was beautifully appointed and immaculate. When we were there, they were preparing the dining room for an event, which was a bit annoying, but without our saying a thing, they offered to comp our parking--very classy."

  • "the lobby at the peninsula is a striking space - huge windows, lux carpeted floors, and a string quartet. this is a great place for an upscale weekend brunch. they have everything you could imagine (from dim sum to sushi to meat to traditional breakfast. they even have a kids bar section with pasta, chicken fingers, fries, sliders and kid-friendly desserts). the staff is courteous and attentive. an excellent special occasion spot! definitely recommend"

  • "The food was some of the best that we have ever had. Sadly, once we were served our entrees, our servers ignored us. They were too interested in clearing tables and going home. The chef and the two sous chefs came out to greet customers and we were ignored. This is disgraceful for a four star restaurant. We had great expectations and felt that we wasted our weekend and our money at this place. Lee Wolen should be embarrassed to allow such terrible service, especially since he saw it happen. If I owned the Peninsula, I would consider a change of management at this restaurant. We were not the only people that received poor service on this night. And yet, other patrons received better service than others, disgusting!"

  • "I've been to the Peninsula for tea in the past. The service was much better this time. I wish they had offered to replenish some of the sandwiches because it seems overpriced for the quantity that you receive. I would think of replacing the salmon and crab sandwiches. I guess the biggest adjustment that I think the restaurant should consider would be to leave any unoccupied chairs at the table. We came as a group of three at a four top table but the restaurant took the fourth chair away."

  • "We were looking for a Michelin-starred restaurant that wasn't too trendy, classic but fresh, just-right elegant, not stodgy… The Lobby fit this bill perfectly. The menu isn't huge but does seem to offer something to please most. My husband and I were very very impressed with the quality, preparation, and presentation of what we ordered- the food was delicious. The service was also spot-on, very understated, there when you need it and not when you don't… Beautiful selection of artisanal rolls/breads with 2 different herbed butters to whet your appetite before your appetizer arrives! This restaurant features live music most nights, I believe. We enjoyed it very much. The setting in "the lobby" of the Peninsula Hotel is very nice."

  • "My daughter and I had a great lunch on New Year's Eve. From the moment we arrived we were treated quite well and the food was delicious. The staff was quite attentive and the surroundings just beautiful. The music was soft which allowed for good conversation. Any need seemed to be anticipated. There was no looking for your waiter; he was always there but was not hovering. We will be back! I'm planning on going for afternoon tea in the next few days."

  • "The desserts were delicious and nicely presented. The last time I was there a lot more tables were there. There were probably as many choices just more of them. A few times we had to wait for a staff person to fill it again. Also they ran out of plates twice. Finally there were more choices for different varieties of cocoa. All in all it was a lovely experience of over indulging in chocolate!"

  • "For a premier restaurant and hotel, the Lobby menu is so restrictive that it is shocking. The dinner menu lists about eight starters and eight entrees, and that is it. No room for choice. I had to complain loudly about the lack of any variety. I was then given the lunch menu that had salads as well as the few entrees and starters listed on the dinner menu. Also, 75% of their entrees have nuts in them. I had a 15 year old granddaughter with me, who could not ingest nuts in any form. Also, the menu is not teenage or child friendly. I'm not sure who the chef is or now the Peninsula arrived at this menu, but they are killing themselves as a place for any family dining. The Ritz Carlton or the Four Seasons is far superior to the Lobby."

  • "My wife and I go to the Lobby near Christmas every year for brunch as the decorations and service is outstanding. This year we went on Xmas Eve and once again were not disappointed. I had the Spa breakfast which included an egg white omelet, yogurt w/ fresh fruit, a bran muffin and tea and fresh squeezed juice. It is nice to enjoy such a light and healthy meal during a time of otherwise over eating! Can't wait until next year."
