A word from The Living Room @ c/o The Maidstone
At the Living Room, we identify the freshest and most naturally produced foods, creating world-class menu selections from what can be purchased through local, organic producers. This is the slow-food philosophy at work, and we believe it makes for the best-tasting meals in the Hamptons.

Our chef uses the slow-food process to "cook with the seasons", coming up with mouth-watering menus of cuisine he calls "new American with a Scandinavian twist". Signature dishes include Scandinavian classics like Toast Skagen and exquisite desserts like Spring Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp with homemade honey vanilla gelato and Catapano Goat Cheese Tarte with homemade lingonberry sorbet.

To complement, you can choose from more than 200 vintages from our extensive wine cellar. From local Long Island varietals to organic Oregonian boutique blends and standards from Europe, there is a wine for every mood and food at The Living Room.

Diner Reviews
  • "The more I eat at the Living Room, the more it becomes my favorite restaurant in a town that had many top eateries. The food is great and innovative and the wait staff is at the top of of the list."

  • "My only complaint was that our friends chose to sit outside this time and we found it a bit too buggy - not really the restaurant's fault."

  • "We used to spend New Year's in EH and always came to the Maidstone for NYear's Day Brunch. We now spend winters in Florida and haven't been to the present restaurant for many years. It was so lovely. The food was delicious. Our waiter was adorable and very helpful in describing various dishes we were unfamiliar with. Who knew Swedish meatballs could be so fabulous with lingonberry jam? Well, now I do. I could have eaten a dozen more of the special oysters, as well. The wine that our waiter suggested, white for my husband and a red Pinot Noir for me, was so smooth and affordable. All in all, it was one of the best meals we've had in the Hamptons and will surely go back with friends. It was a true dining experience."

  • "Took an hour to get our lunch. They ran out of salmon and waiter got our order wrong. And, restaurant was half empty."

  • "Always a good choice for dinner. Bring guests often."

  • "Delicious. Group of 9 celebrating my mother's 81st birthday, a lot of different tastes and we were all happy with what we ordered. no Stinkers. It's pricey though, $16 salad and $39 entree is the norm. Also if you are with older folks, request the dining room. They often seat you in the bar area, my mother wouldn't have been happy with that long table !!"

  • "If you are looking for excellent food, terrific and attentive staff, and a unique atmosphere that perfectly balances old world and new, then look no further than The Living Room c\o Maidstone!"

  • "I love the room and the overall ambiance of the Living Room however the menu is complicated and fussy. While it claims some Swedish DNA you will not find the straightforward and hearty cuisine as you might expect. Portions are small and prices are high, the seafood skewer for example should include 2 for the price being charged. I suggest a lesson be taken from other local restaurants like Fresno, which is right around the corner, and simplify the menu while retaining the high quality of service (which is a bit too fussy for my taste) and lovely atmosphere."

  • "I wouldn't rush back. Went with a Swedish friend who was looking forward to gravlax, no joy. We thought the food selections were very limited."

  • "I had the whole bass which was excellent with the roasted vegetables, however my guests had rack of lamb that was tough. The potatoes were too much 'bulk' and none were eaten. They would have preferred vegetables. The candle was too high so that we had to move it to see across the table, and ultimately we had to move it and then the table became too dark. These are details that you will work out. At no time did the waiter come to us to follow up on whether we needed anything so that when we did need assistance, for instance the mussels (which were excellent) were served without a soup spoon, and the plate to put the shells on was too small, and we had to ferret out someone to assist us."

  • "This is a lovely place in East Hampton. It has a great limited menu and excellent wine list. The food was a bit pricey but worth it while you are in the Hamptons."

  • "My friend and I enjoyed a fantastic dinner at the living room in Easthampton. We especially enjoyed the live music of Alfredo Merat, with Jay Schneiderman on to bongo drums! The food was exceptional - we will return soon! "

  • "We had such a wonderful evening and continued to talk about the ambience, service and food the next day! Thank you "

  • "It's not often you go to a fine restaurant where you can enjoy really good food and have a conversation with friends where you're not straining to hear every word. At The Living Room at the Maidstone in East Hampton, you can not only have both....you're never rushed by the service staff. In fact, they dote on you without being intrusive. The food is delicious. Our group of four enjoyed the oysters and the special salad as appetizers; the rack of lamb, the Swedish meatballs, and the flounder as main courses. We split two desserts--the walnut tarte with whipped cream and the chocolate ganache. The latter was a disappointment, but the nut pie was amazing. With wine 2 cocktails and tip, the bill was a bit over $100 a person--well worth it."

  • "I love excellent food and amazing dining experiences. We come here relatively frequently and always have a great experience. The menu is eclectic and the food is good, sometimes very good. It won't leave you feeling like you just can't get enough of it, but it certainly warrants a return visit when you are looking for an overall nice night out."

  • "We had dinner at the Maidstone as part of restaurant week. They offered a $30 three course prix fix and it was both excellent and a good value. The mussels appetizer was excellent, topped with blue cheese and a generous portion. We had the bouillabaisse entree, and while excellent, it was a very small serving. Also, their cocktails at $16 were minute, not even filling half a "martini" glass. Maidstone is a local favorite of ours, and it's always seems like a special occasion to dine there."

  • "It was restaurant week so every table was filled. The food though was better than one woiuld expect on a Restaurant week offering."

  • "The location inside the historic Inn across from the Village Pond is ideal. The food and service is terrific. Thanks for a great evening. We will see you again soon."

  • "It was a wonderful meal, with a friendly and helpful staff. we enjoyed it immensely and will return and recommend to others."

  • "For good food and professional service this is one of the best in East Hampton. A year around special occasion restaurant where the scene is not to be seen. A spacious room where you can hear yourself talk in a dignified atmosphere. Off season specials make the prices affordable during the week, pricey during the summer and on weekends."
    Dined on 3/24/2014
  • "The meal was excellent. It was quite busy for a Sunday in March, but it was the start of Hamptons restaurant Week. My husband and I took advantage of this and ordered off the prix fix menu which had some lovely choices. I ordered the bouillabaisse, and while it was not traditional, it was wonderfully tasty. Our kids ordered off the kids menu which I did not know they had and everyone in our party was happy. The decor is just fabulous. I wish house could like like the Maidstone."

  • "Service is less than attentive and food is mediocre at best. Also, don't count on the Prix Fixe on weekends, despite what their website says, they refused to serve it to us even though we arrived before 6:30pm. We sent back our fish main course for being too salty and buttery two times and they still charged us $32 for it. Unbelievable."

  • "Dining in the Hamptons can be a challenge but The Living Room at the Maidstone solves the problem. Its Scandinavian cuisine, including fantastic Swedish meatballs and wonderfully prepared seasonal fish, is delicious, different and in a casually elegant environment. Excellent cocktails and a smart crowd complete the package."

  • "The Living Room is my favorite restaurant in the hamptons. From the moment you arrive to the moment you depart all is perfect. The staff are always warm and inviting. They are a large part of why dining there is an experience. The food, of course, is just as notable. The Living Room offers delicious and creative choices. The menu is diverse enough to please all. Inch rather eat at the Maidstone's Living Room, rather than in my own."

  • "Easily the priciest special occasion restaurant in East Hampton. Quirky menu as a result of Swedish ownership but generally outstanding food in a beautiful setting. Extensive and expensive wine list. Specials weeknights in off season offset some of the outlandish summer prices."

  • "The food was great and a very good value. Due to a large cocktail party in the bar it was very noisy. But on our request we were moved to a back table. Also due to the large bar group the serve was very slow but still professional"

  • "Cost about $75 per person incl drinks. Good menu and excellent food and service."

  • "Food was on par with some of the best that I have had out east. The duck was cooked to perfection. Meal was truly excellent"

  • "We went again for restaurant week, though i don't know why we don't go more often. The items for restaurant week were also on their regular menu. I am gluten free and they were very accommodating for me and actually most of the choices are already GF. Food and service were wonderful as usual. The restaurants decor is just beautifully unique too. Portion size is good."

  • "I strongly recommend the Living Room - wonderful food - great service!"

  • "We've been to The Living Room for special occasions before and were returning, again for a celebration. The service was slow, disorganized and unresponsive. We saw our waitress twice and about 4 other people throughout the evening who didn't know where we were in our meal. The meatballs were not as good as those at Ikea. I'd indicated on the Open Table reservation that we were celebrating a milestone birthday but that went unacknowledged. It was much louder than we'd experienced before. We were really disappointed."

  • "The dining areas are cozy, the food was fantastic (mixed Long island grilled seafood first course, Swedish meatballs and grilled lobster with truffled butter for main course). The bread was warm and the creamed butter with a chive flavor started the dinner off well. The wine is pricey, but you could certainly eat here without completely breaking the bank. The hostess was extremely helpful, squeezing us in at 9 when I couldn't get a reservation before 9:30, and the service was quick and good. The hotel itself looks very cute and I would consider staying there sometime based on my experience. There is also valet parking."

  • "This was our first time at the Living Room. Overall dining experience was great though prices are certainly high for appetizers as well as entrees. Modest lapses in service but overall staff was knowledgeable and thoughtful. Would definitely return."

  • "Excellent food and a civilized dining experience make this one of, if not the best restaurant on the East End. The atmosphere is just hip enough with being pretentious, the service excellent and professional and the menu is carefully selected for taste and variety. The bartender is absolutely charming - do try his cucumber martini or Vesper, both perfect cocktails to set the mood. The Swedish meatballs have many fans, but the tuna and Montauk bass stole the show. This is what dinner in the Hamptons should be but rarely is."

  • "The chef recently changed so some of the dishes while listed on the menu are different. However, the goal remains local, organic fresh produce and fish with a slight Swedish touch. The restaurant is located in the historic Maidstone Inn in Easst Hampton. Many of the wines offered are also local. The staff make you feel comfortable and welcome in the elegant setting. An occasional celebrity can be found seated next to you. The Fall is our favorite time here, we hope they continue to offer the Thanksgiving feast special."

  • "We love the Living Room. Our out of town friends kept talking about the food the next day. We really enjoyed ourselves. Had excellent wine and everyone had a clean plate after. Miss the old decor that had more color, but maybe it was changed b/c of the season changing."
