Diner Reviews
  • "My friend and I enjoyed a wonderful summerlicious lunch at the Living Room. All aspects of the lunch were excellent (the food, service and the ambience). The serving staff were very attentive."

  • "We went for Summerlicious and had mixed feelings. The service was outstanding, and the ambience was very good. The food was a little disappointing, though. The Caprese salad was almost entirely tomatoes - not a lot of Mazzarella, and almost no basil. The short ribs were nicely sauced, but the meat itself was a little dried out, as if it had been braised at too high a temperature. It was tasty, though. The accompanying Gratin Dauphioise was delicious. The dessert trio was very good, particularly the chocolate. We brought our own wine, and the corkage was quite reasonable ($25), and the 25-year old wine was decanted promptly and competently. I will try the restaurant again sometime to see if their regular menu is better."

  • "I went to The Living at Windsor Arms for Summerlicious and while I enjoyed the venue and its food, I was very disappointed in the service. There was an issue at every step of the meal. The water took 10 minutes to come, I ordered a beer with dinner that did not come until I was done eating, and then when I changed my beer order to something different (since it didn't come) the waitress chuckled. I had changed the beer to something that would pair with my desert, a Black IPA. The waitress brought out an Amber Ale and when she started pouring it I asked "oops is that the Black IPA? Its pouring gold....doesn't look like what I expected" she proclaimed "yep its a Black IPA" even though it said Amber Ale on the bottle! Incompetent staff."

  • "We had a very good Friday night dinner as a couple last night. The food was delicious and the service was great. Definitely one of the best restaurants in Toronto, and is well worth the price to dine there."

  • "We took advantage of Summerlicious as an excuse for some of our book club to enjoy a gathering over dinner. While I had been at the Windsor Arms previously, I had not dined in The Library Room and it was delightful. They offered a menu with a nicely balanced variety of choices which certainly hit the mark among the five of us. The service was very attentive by a young woman who was seemed to be always at the ready without being intrusive. The food featured great flavours and was well proportioned - each plate served as a work of art. Given the ambience, service and the food quality, it was surprising that not more people were in the restaurant. Clearly The Living Room is a hidden gem. All told a great evening."

  • "I took my Mother here for Mother's day. I knew it was going to be pricey but felt she was worth it. It started off badly when we had to wait to be seated in a dining room that was far from full. The servers were run off their feet and could not manage the tables they had. You know it's going to be a busy day so staff appropriately. There was a set menu I assume to help the kitchen but we waited a long time for our food and it was cooked incorrectly. We were not the only table that had issues with the quality of their food. I am so disappointed at how bad this experience was and I wish that people talked more about the decline of service and quality here while they maintain expensive prices."

  • "The service was awful, they didn't even know which menu to bring. Upon sending back an overcooked filet mignon, the staff advised that the kitchen was extremely busy and not able to redo a filet for 45 minutes. This was despite the the restaurant being empty. The restaurant is a flop - too bad because its new operator had a good spot on Harbord before moving."

  • "My Dad and I recently had dinner here and thoroughly enjoyed the ambience, the menu, the service, and well - everything! We were quite surprised at the prices, expecting them to be much higher since its in the Windsor Arms but were happy to see that despite being an upscale boutique hotel, they didn't try to gouge their customers on the prices. A place we definitely plan on returning to and bringing friends."

  • "I was very happy with this choice as a place to dine downtown. The food was great and the value was good. The four of us enjoyed our dinner. I'll be back."

  • "Booked for dinner during the Valentine's weekend, expected to partake in the Valentine's menu, but was told that it was on only for one day, despite what was advertised on the web. Nevertheless, we had an amazing dining experience. The crispy calamari was so succulent and very lightly battered. The beef tenderloin was wonderful with peppercorn sauce, cooked to the diner's specifications. Dessert was great to end off the evening. Wine was reasonably priced by the glass, good for food pairings. It's nice to go back to the Courtyard & Living Room for a special meal again."

  • "We went Valentines Day. Booked through Open Table. Not told it was a special valentines day meal and nothing else available . Regular menu looks good. But unable to order from it that day. Food was bland. Unlike other reviewers our service was good. Have to pay for the bread tray but it was really good and the best part of meal. Ambience really nice. But if you get a table that is a coffee table it makes eating awkward. Like eating at your coffee table . Won't go back again. But would have liked to try the regular menu. Only draw back booking on line with open table was we weren't aware of the prix fix menu. Other customers were also upset by this. Will eat at Windsor arms again but for high tea which we really enjoyed in the past."

  • "Food was good, but not amazing. Probably wouldn't come back here again as I've tried both their high tea offerings and winterlicious dinner. Neither seized to amaze me, quite disappointed"

  • "Have lived in the area for years...didn't know the Windsor Arms even existed. This is a georgeous off the beaten track find."

  • "I have been meaning to go to the Windsor Arms for years now and I'm happy that I finally did it. The service was good, the food was great but most importantly, I loved the ambiance. The setup of the restaurant is very neat, although more for a loungy feel, rather than for a restaurant. (A classy lounge, not a clubby one!). What surprised me most was the drinks list. While it definitely had some extremely expensive wines but there were a lot of very affordable but nice options. I would definitely be keen on going back there, although more for drinks rather than dinner because although the food was very nice, I think it might be a little overpriced. In that top price bracket, I'm looking for amazing food, not just great food."

  • "Been to Courtyard for brunch, was expecting the same level of service at the Living Room. Was very very disappointed, even chain restaurants offer better service than this so-called upscale restaurant. Went with a group of 7, none of the courses came at the same time for all of us. Ordered 2 baskets of breads even though they cost $5 each. Was never offered to us, we had to ask the bus boy. All of us ordered steaks but most of them were overcooked. Coffees didn't come with sugar and by the time she returned with it, coffees were cold and some of us even finished it with no sugar. Even though it's Winterlicious menu, customer service and food quality should be the same as regular menu!! WILL NOT GO AGAIN AND WILL NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO GO!!"

  • "Although we went to Winterlicious....our bill for 4 came to over 300 dollars. We were billed 48 dollars for 2 martinis....and then had the items reduced once we complained to your server. Food was spotty (soup was cold even when it was heated a second time) and the rest was quite tasty. Coffees arrived cold as well. We didn't mention it to the staff, however. All in all, a classy venue despite the tired decor of the restaurant."

  • "I had very high expectations for this restaraunt & maybe that was the problem. Everything was fine, just fine & nothing more. I didn't find the food exception. I didn't feel the service was personable the decor was beautiful like walking into an 19th century castle, but when we walked into the back room, where we were being seated the smell of fish slapped me in the face. I love seafood and because of the smell i refused to have any of the seafood. I let the server know there was a harsh fish odor and she asked me if it wasn't the scallops. I'm sorry fresh seafood of any kind should not smell, I have been to seafood restaurants that didn't smell. I felt like because it was winterlicious they didn't care as much. Very disappointing."

  • "The Living Room is indeed a delightful restaurant. The food was delicious, and the menu so interesting that I want to return to try everything on it! Service was discrete and efficient, and the ambience perfect for a relaxing afternoon lunch with a dear friend. I will definitely return!"

  • "Not having been here since university (early 70s) ...and then could only afford it only occasionally, I was looking forward to a leisurely lunch with friends. Food and service was exceptional ...given the Winterlicious hype but no urgency to vacate the table. Very good selection of items on menu , flavourful and well presented. Will certainly return ....retirement has it's benefits and looking forward to the outdoor courtyard season."

  • "Place looks great. Staff was very accommodating but also very busy so it was hard to get service sometimes. Winterlicious menu was different on the website vs what was in the restaurant which was kind of annoying. Gf said her fish seemed kind of "off". Probably could've been addressed by the restaurant if she had mentioned it."

  • "Great Winterlicious experience at the Windsor Arms for lunch! The service was exceptional and the food delicious. There was a live singer and piano player in the next room and the ambience was great. The only thing that surprised me was that the Winterlicious menu I saw online (which is the reason I booked) was a different menu than we were offered in the restaurant. It was still delicious but I was looking forward to a different main and dessert that I saw on the online menu."

  • "My fiance and i went there for a Saturday lunch for Winterlicious. The food was great, the service was great! Windsor Arms is quickly turning into one of our favourite places for lunch/brunch! The whole menu was unique, visually appealing, and tasted great. Overall, a fantastic experience :)"

  • "sorry to inconvenience the staff, but you sort of require customers to exist, non attentive, beyond slow, pretend you at least give a second thought about your clients, room 25 full, lots of staff, not a lot of service...."
