A word from The Livery Tavern
Our newest restaurant, The Livery Tavern, is a very masculine interpretation of a mid-1800’s tavern, with an open beamed ceiling and a generous use of natural materials and earth tones both inside and out. The Livery has a full bar, privacy booth seating, outdoor patio seating and an extensive wine and port list. Our menu is a reflection of this same interpretation, with dishes including grilled venison, quail, lamb and local beef cuts like 2 inch bone-in rib eyes. The Livery is also fashioned with a unique military motif to honor our father Major General John B. Hirt USMC, who passed away earlier this year. You’ll find these military influences in our logo and other decorative treatments inside the restaurant. Continued

  • "Tonight March 13th, a business associate and I made a 7:15 PM reservation at your restaurant the Livery Tavern. We were a bit early about 6:55 PM - no one was manning the door but a pleasant young woman from behind the bar seated us, the menu and wine list were on the table; although the restaurant was not busy no one approached our table. One waiter served appetizers to the table next to us and water to the booth behind us but refused to make eye contact with us. After waiting 20 minutes with no acknowledgement of our presence, we decided it would be best to leave. Before leaving we approached the bar where three employees were chatting and mentioned that the service was nonexistent - this was an unpleasant experience. Sent from my iPad"

  • "This eatery was recommended to me, so I checked it out. I wish I didn't. Food was very over-priced, mediocre in quality, lacked interest, and the servings were small. The menu was limited. The service was poor, unpolished and amateur. I was worried when I saw the restaurant was near empty on a Saturday night, now I know why. I left there very hungry, as did my husband. This is not a gourmet restaurant, but the prices were. Save your time & money!"

  • "We reserved a table at the Livery Tavern for a birthday dinner. The host greeted us promptly and made sure we had the table near the window that we wanted. We were made to feel very welcome. The fire was roaring in the fireplace and the guitar duo played and sang beautifully. Our server was attentive and the menu(which is changed periodically) was excellent. Our meals were served properly, and were delicious. We all had a wonderful time at The Livery Tavern, I particularly like the fact that the restaurant was originally founded by a retired Marine and his officer sword and flag grace the fireplace mantle. A nice touch for an already very welcoming establishment."

  • "This was our first visit to The Livery.The food was excellent and beautifully displayed but the service was slack even though we arrived early for dinner and the place was not busy.We ordered a large assortment of appetizers and they brought them all out at once and then disappeared.We ended up stacking dishes on the table next to us and even then the waitress didn't make an effort to clean them off.The music was super loud and not conducive to a relaxing dining experience."

  • "The Livery Tavern came highly recommended to us & I am glad we tried it during our trip to The Greenbrier. The atmosphere was great & the noise level was very tolerable (important to me). We thought my daughter was being unadventurous getting the pasta, but she had the best dish out of our 3! My husband's seafood dish was tasty, but was extremely small (portioned) especially for the price. Salads very good & oysters, too!"

  • "We were at the Livery for New Year's Eve and the Livery did not live up to its previous reputation. I suppose the abbreviated menu was part of the problem. The prime rib was nothing like any prime rib we've had before. It was second rate -- none of that sweet flavor of a fine prime rib. For next year, go with the twin tournedos of beef (a regular menu item) and skip the prime rib. We love the ambience of the Livery, but it fell short this year. The music was not up to par. Too loud. Not very good. The staff was marveous! Very friendly. First rate. Our waiter Aaron couldn't have been better. He paid close attention to our needs without ever getting in the way. Sorry about the marginal review. It was New Year's Eve. We'll be back!"

  • "Honestly after our first experience we were hesitant about returning. However, you have an outstanding staff and that was the main reason we gave it another try. I heard you had a new chef, and there was a noticeable difference. We had the cheese plate, Caesar salad, pasta, and the trout. All of it was outstanding. David took great care of us, and you have the best bartender in the area. We commented to several friends after dinner about how good dinner was. My only suggestion would be open on Friday and Saturday til 10."

  • "What a treat to enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner with all of the classic holiday trimmings at the Livery. The atmosphere was warm and inviting with a glowing fire in the fireplace, attentive wait staff and relaxed service. Our warm spinach salad was a perfect start, followed by a Brie App with roasted pecans and cranberry demi glaze! Sliced roasted turkey with an outstanding dressing and gravy for a main course. The topper was an apple sauce cake with homemade goat cheese ice cream. Unbelievable! We'll be back."

  • "It has an attractive, upscale interior. My wife had the trout almandine and she said it was outstanding- said the sides were skimpy. I had the pork chop and found it tough, The pork glaze was very good, the side dishes were disproportionately small without much character. the coffee was exceptionally good. The service was good- waiter knowledgeable, friendly, prompt, courteous. Overall, the food was good, good presentation- very good ambiance but overpriced. $9.00 for a small mixed greed salad. $3.50 for a cup of coffee."

Too many simple mistakes the entire dining experience. Will give it one more try in the future, but if the experience is the same, I will not be back. The overall appearance of the restaurant, inside and outside, is very attractive and inviting. I truly hope I caught them on a bad night!"

  • "After zipping past Lewisburg WV on I-64 for dozens of years, this trip we decided to stop and see why it was selected "The Coolest Small Town in America" a few years ago. Now we know...and The Livery adds to the equation. We ate dinner at the Livery two nights in a four-day period. Both were excellent. Oysters on half shell in West Va???? You bet. Braised duck breast cooked to moist and tender perfection? Yep. Beef short ribs with perfect sauce? Yep.Tasty sides and salads? You betcha. Decent wine list, good (is there anot, her kind?) martini, tempting desserts? They got'em all. Service was prompt, well-informed, not pushy. Prices...you get what you pay for....The Livery is pricey but worth it! We'll never zip past it again."

Fresh local ingredients, excellent plating, exciting dishes like stuffed quail, fried pork belly and sweet breads coupled with an elegant, rustic interior make for a wonderful dining experience. The wine list is extensive with an emphasis on Italian wines to pair with the restaurant's Tuscany style of food preparation. We will most definitely be back!"
