Diner Reviews
  • "Been in NYC about a week , this is one of our best lunch so far. The food wine and service . Will be back again. Highly recommended."

  • "We had a really nice lunch here midweek. The place was full but it's only small so had a great atmosphere. Food was lovely."

  • "4/17/14 Made reservations 2 weeks in advance ( place is tiny) for three. One cocktail each: Sangria was excellent, but the Bellinis were sub par. Split one order of outstanding meatball sliders, and 2 sides of kale and truffle polenta. Note: sides were delicious but skimpy, neither filling a plate the size of a teacup saucer. Entrees were: lobster risotto, the (house special) of orichetti with sweet sausage and roasted peppers, and crispy chicken. Entrees were ample, and very tasty. Would certainly recommend The Little Owl for outstanding service ( they don't rush you out the door) and wonderful food, but it is expensive (we were prepared). Cost of lunch for three : $176.00 with tax and tips, and we did not have coffee or dessert."

  • "A beautiful meal. Good service and the added bonus you are wasting at the bottom of the 'Friends' building. Thank You!"

  • "My wife and I went here for our 5th anniversary dinner while visiting NYC (we're from Vancouver). Read lots about this place, and it did not disappoint. Everything we ordered was top notch - the meatball sliders, polenta, Whole Fish main for me, and the Braised Beef for my wife. Wine selection is a bit upscale, but not outrageous. Service was great as well, prompt, friendly and gave you the right amount of space. Bonus fact: the building was used as the exterior shot for Friends - lots of people stop on the corner to photograph the building!"

  • "Reservations well in advance required for this little 12-table place. Service friendly while efficient. Food interestingly prepared and presented. We both had cocktails, "lamb t-bones" entree with a glass if wine, and shared a dessert of strudel and ice cream, and espressos. Because we are small eaters, we ordered "to go" their lauded sliders which were fine the next day. Bill with generous tip was $213, and we left "happy campers.""

  • "My daughter and I went to The Little Owl and we loved the food. The room was quite intimate and lovely. The wait staff made us feel very comfortable and provided great service. The duck salad was incredible with all kinds of textures and flavors. We also enjoyed the infamous meatball sliders and shared a perfectly cooked pork chop. The staff selected two glasses of wine for me which paired perfectly with my meal. Can't wait to come back!"

  • "Teresa, is the best hostess in the city. I was greeted by name upon arrival. She happened to overheard my GF requested a diffent table (a 4 top) and while we were outside waiting for our regular table to be cleared she served us prosseco (outside) and she called the people that were supposed to be there, confirmed they were not coming and then sat us.living in this neighborhood can make you immune to poor service and when you experience over the top service you appreciate it all the more."

  • "From the UK and our first time in New York, we heard about the little owl from a friend, saw good reviews on tripadvisor, so booked it. It was a little out of the way from our hotel in times square, we got a taxi arriving a little early and was told our table was ready so we sat down to a fantastic experience, the food was excellent the service was very good they really treated us to a memorable 40th Wedding Anniversary, thank you “The Little Owl”."

  • "Amazing Sunday dinner at The Little Owl. This place is so charming and it's located on such a great block. All the food was delicious-sliders, cavatelli, halibut, sea bass, chocolate souffle. Service was warm and knowledgeable. This is a local place that is not a local place...if that makes sense."

  • "Sublime dining experience and friendly staff - a great combination. I started with the Gnocci special, it was a little softer than I would cook it, but it was delicious. The main had almost all of my favourite things on one plate! Cod, tomato sauce, squash, Kalamata olives and capers - the cod was perfectly cooked - soft and buttery, the combination if flavours was delicious, I also had a side of potatoes and asparagus which complimented perfectly. Dessert was blue cheese :-) My husband started with sardines -extremely tasty, then had the burger (medium) which he said was cooked to perfection. For dessert he had blueberry cheesecake - exactly how cheesecake should be, thin base and whole blueberries. Book if you want to go, it fills up!"

  • "I love The Little Owl. The cheeseburgers are absolutely amazing. So much that I never order anything else even though I tell myself each time to try something different. It's a very charming restaurant and the staff is very friendly."

  • "We ate in some of the top restaurants in New York on a recent visit and the Little Owl was by far the best. A superb little place and very reasonable price wise. This will be the first place I book on every future visit."

  • "I wanted to try a new restaurant in the VIllage and just picked this place at Random from Open Table. It was truly amazing. Food was wholesome, delicate and the freshest of ingredients used. The recipes were not so edgy, more grounded and real. More importantly, the execution of each dish was done to perfection and there was not one portion of the meal which was less deserving of this compliment. I've found a new gem to re-visit and will do so very soon. My congratulations to owner, chef and staff for a prime example of how a restaurant "gets it right" !"

  • "Had just 8 hours in manhattan and chose little owl on a whim, best decision of the day! First, the staff is lovely, knowledgeable and so accommodating. This is a ten table restaurant, but the food that comes out of that kitchen is amazing. Two of us shared the appetizer special, a homemade cavatelli pasta with a wonderful sauce that had a bit of a kick, yum! Next up was the cod Provençal. It had a pesto topping and was served atop zucchini, Used a spoon to get all the juicy goodness of the sauce. Also tried the blistered green beans with a sesame hoisin sauce( I think). The blistering made for a delicious base for the sauce, wanted to eat them all,but alas, the two of us were just too darn full at that point! Go, you will be happy you did."

  • "The Little Owl doesn't save it's best dishes for dinner. The close quarters lend to a comfortable, dine at home feeling. Creamy Lobster risotto or vibrant, spicy cod - the impressive portions and unique ingredient combinations are all quite satisfying. Reservations are at a premium but truly worth the wait!"

  • "This is our third time at Little Owl and it never disappoints. The food is always fresh, creative and so delicious. The staff is super nice and knowledgable. The music is loud enough to hear and groove to but never overpowers the room or conversation. In a word, perfect."

  • "This is a fab little place and given the general food pricing in NY, not too pricey. My daughter had clams to start followed by the scallops - amazing. I had the meatball sliders - basically mini meatball burgers - as I had read that they were amazing. Well, as mini meatball burgers go, I guess they were. Too filling though!! I then went for the chicken dish cooked with sprouts and sherry. It is a half chicken - half a large chicken - skin a little salty and crisped to perfection. Really good. The sherry jus was a bit of a let down though with less of a sweetness than I had expected. Overall good but so big, particularly following my choice of starter. The restaurant itself is great and the staff were great."

  • "Visiting from the UK, we pre booked this tiny but busy little restaurant. Warm and welcoming we have nothing negative to say at all about the little owl. Our waitress was chatty, helpful, knowledgable.. The food was fine quality but unpretentious and delicious! You can tell this place is known and loved by the locals of the charming west village. We can't wait to return to NY and we'd def visit again"

  • "Amazing food and absolutely fantastic service. Only drawbacks were how cramped it was and the menu was a little confusing."
    Dined on 3/4/2014
  • "The starter dish, clams was a test and really not a smart choice if your not really into seafood. We had sort of a hard time getting through the test. Sorry. Then came the entrees and my wife claims she never had a better piece of meat. The beef was devine. I have the chicken. Very good, but not outstanding. Spicy brussels sprouts on the side was nice but did not manage to overcome the fact that the chicken wasn't top notch."

  • "We eat out a lot,a nd we can't say enough about the warmth of the welcome, the attentive staff, and the generally "good vibe" of Little Owl. This was our third dinner here, and we tried new things : the endive/radicchio salad and the gnocchi (light, fluffy with a delicious braised lamb sauce, the sea bass special and the flounder francaise, a side of string beans, and molten chocolate cake and pear crisp for dessert. Every. It's was absolutely delicious. Not to be missed!"

  • "Our anniversary lunch at The Little Owl was a joy, from the location, decor, fantastic service to, of course, the food. The attention to detail in the menu, particularly the wonderfully imaginative seasonal vegetables, was superb. So hard to choose! We ate well and felt welcome and at home the moment we stepped through the door. A new favourite!"

  • "It is a west village gem which I hope stays for a long time. The food, the neighborhood, the ambiance was very special. I especially love the loft where you can enjoy a glass of wine, while looking down on the restaurant below. Very cool!"

  • "This restaurant was smaller than I expected but the food was superb. Having seen the reviews on here and how high it rates in the rankings, my best friend and I just had to come (plus the added bonus of the building being filmed for Friends drew us there!). The service was fantastic too. I only wish we could've enjoyed a full three courses but knowing we were eating another big meal later that night meant we didn't. If I return to NYC again one day, I'll definitely be returning to this little gem!"

  • "Can I just say WOW? My friend and I came here to enjoy a nice meal before heading out to a concert. The reviews were glowing, so we definitely went in with high expectations. The food was out of this world! We both left feeling satisfied and I put my meal (the black sea bass special) as one of my best meals ever! The receptionist was wonderful - so warm and welcoming. She even gave us the opportunity to move to a window seat after she had a cancellation - that was awesome. There is scaffolding on the outside of building, so not the best view at the moment. I would have given 5 stars for service but for the big push at the end of the meal. We must have been asked 5 or 6 times for our dessert selection. We were chased out and skipped dessert"

Great atmosphere and would definitely try the the lunch or dinner menu at the Little Owl if we get to NYC again."
