Diner Reviews
  • "My husband and I love The Little Owl and their sister restaurant, Market Table, and typically dine at one of them every time we visit New York. We were in town for July 4th weekend and planned on having dinner at TLO with my cousin. Unfortunately, my husband and I had to change our plans but my cousin was still interested in going so she went by herself. She was treated like gold. She offered to take a smaller table for dinner and have her dessert at the bar and each time the staff told her absolutely not, that she had a reservation and it was her table to enjoy. While not surprised by this level of service, I was very happy to hear that the restaurant made my cousin feel so welcome. Truly a class act."

  • "Vi hadde lunsj i "Friendshuset". Restauranten var utrolig liten og intim. Veldig koselig. Kjempehyggelig personale som tok godt imot oss. Vi spiste hamburger, som er den retten de er mest kjent for. Den var veldig god."

  • "It's the first time I was disappointed... Burger not as good as usual... I'm so sad about that... Will try again"

  • "The brunch here is delicious. Many things to choose from. The waiter could not have been more helpful or friendly. Next time, I will try dinner here. They said the dinner is amazing too."

  • "The droves of tourists/people taking pictures of the building across the street were distracting, but nothing the restaurant can avoid. It's unfortunate b/c it's such a pretty street/view. After requesting a seat by the window & being graciously accommodated I've decided on my next visit I will request a seat in the rear of the restaurant which is equally adorable. It was lovely that the hostess recalled it was my birthday from when the reservation was made and she had a candle placed in my dessert order. The space is extraordinarily tiny and we had to manuever our food and place settings just right to fit everything on the table, as well as move our chairs often to allow ppl to leave the bar/let the waitress by. Will def be returning!"

  • "Greenwich a maze of countless named streets, where one can get lost and stumble to a real gem. I've been wanting to try this place for the longest time, but the advanced reservations was always a pain to overcome. Then one day, I was able to grab a date and time that worked for me. Finding this place was a real journey, for the logistics inadequate traveler. Luckily I finally laid eyes on the quaint red exterior of the restaurant. We had the following. Gravy Meatball Sliders, epitome of comfort food. They come with 3, but you can ask for an extra one - 9.0 Porkchop & Butter Beans, favorable, was expecting it to be more juicy, perhaps my expectations were too high? 8.5 Broiled Halibut, creamy and delectable - 10.0 Definitely coming back"

  • "Despite it's tiny interior, The Little Owl featured fantastic food, a cozy feel, and a thoroughly funky atmosphere. So glad we were able to get a reservation!"

  • "The Little Owl is tiny and gets very crowded, loud and noisy. But the food continues to be seriously excellent. The waiter, this time ,seemed to want to push us through in a hurried way."

  • "Very small but absolutely amazing. Better to sit around the edges then in the middle. Menu changes regularly. Soft shell crab, lamb chops, pork chops, halibut all out of this world. The sides; asparagus, green beans and kale cooked to perfection with subtle, light spices. We were celebrating our 23rd anniversary and they could not have been more accommodating. Delightful, memorable evening."

  • "Food and Atmosphere were excellent. We got there right on time and our table wasn't ready, but we were brought drinks and a few small appetizers while we waited made the wait go by very quickly. Food was excellent and the small atmosphere makes it great for a romantic dinner."

  • "We would definitely go back. Liked the calamari dish. Fish was fresh. Sangria good."

  • "Had dinner with a friend there a couple of nights ago. The food was delicious -- Every single dish we ate exceeded my expectations -- plating was good, ingredients fresh, flavors were fantastic. Wine list was much more extensive than expected (with some interesting choices) and service was warm and attentive. Will definitely return. My only wish is that the restaurant were a little bigger so it would be easier to make reservations."

  • "Oh man! This was by far the best dining out experience I had in New York. The tables were a little cramped inside but that just added to the ambience. The staff were cool and friendly and the place just had a real pleasant feel to it. I had a main course and a dessert and just wish I had ordered a starter! The food was really good and tasty and at a reasonable price. If I had more time in NY I would of booked for the next night also. A lovely hidden gem away from all the tourist traps in Manhattan, I look forward to dining here again in the future."

  • "Overall nice brunch experience. Only complaint is that we had to wait 15 minutes despite our reso and they tried to flip the table the second we finished our meal. Mildly annoying since I booked two weeks in advance. Otherwise the food was good and decently priced for the neighborhood."

  • "Even though we arrived late for our reservation, the gentleman in the front took us very nicely. We had great dinner there with very welcoming feeling. Food was good and service was greater than I expected. I will definitely going back there soon."

  • "Returned to Little Owl for another great lunch. Had the "Crispy" Chicken Breast which was delicious although not quite crispy this time around. Accompanied it with the seasonal Corn "Spicy Mexican Style" which was a roasted corn side dish which was just the perfect side of sweet and spicy to balance the acidity of the lemon and sherry in the jus from the chicken. A nice glass or two of wine rounded out the meal and two very contented diners made plans to return thanks to a memorable and enjoyable dining experience."

  • "Reservation process was breeze via open table and email contact from restaurant was very good. It is situated in a lovely quiet little spot in the West Village. Not very big inside but quaint. I have to say the meal I had was one of the best I have had in while but a little pricey in my opinion. I would definately return to this restaurant but it would have to be for a special occassion because of thr prices."

  • "The minute I walked in I felt like I was having dinner at a friend or relatives home. Warm, welcoming staff and great service throughout our meal! The food was outstanding!! Kale cavatelli-I wish I had order three bowls! Beet salad was paired with delicious bitter greens and a heavenly dressing. The polenta daily special side should be a staple on their menu, creamy and filled with flavor!! The cod entree was lite and hearty all at the same time, perfect for a hot summer day!! We didn't order dessert, guess we need to come back!!!"

  • "We loved our dinner !! The place is VERY small but not uncomfortable. We had halibut and cod and both were excellent. Loved the freshness of the food and the creativity. Chocolate cake dessert was the best thing I've ever eaten !!!! Excellent attentive staff too ! Don't miss a chance to experience the Owl !"

  • "Small and cozy, but not cramped. Huge windows make for great people watching and the ability to really enjoy a sunny day while dining on delicious food. Definitely a great location for dates, but either make you reservation weeks in advance or go early on a weekday for dinner (like 5:30-6:30)."

  • "I was a bit disappointed by this place after reading all of the enthusiastic reviews. The ingredients are all very fresh and the preparation excellent but I thought some of the dishes were misconceived. The cod in chowder was perfect. The whole fish would have been perfect if the accompanying lobster risotto hadn't overpowered it with heat. The beignet dessert was not what I expected, more like small jelly donuts. The wine list is very well chosen and appropriate for the food. It takes a similar " farm to table" approach to the Print restaurant in the Ink 48 Hotel; I have eaten there many times and found it to be more consistent. Perhaps I caught the Little Owl on an off night; I really wanted to like it. "

  • "All these years in the Village and this was my first visit to a historic, well known, touristic, but profoundly local restaurant. Great food (soft shell crab over risotto) and sooo attractive"

  • "The Little Owl is a perfect restaurant. It's small and warm and intimate -- the ambience is very neighborhood-y, not grand, but ideal for the place, the food is always delicious, familiar food with surprising but never "out there" preparations; everything about the food and the mood and the atmosphere "matches." The waiters and waitresses are super friendly and knowledgeable and engaging."

  • "I've been here once for dinner and once for lunch. It can feel a little crowded inside, but the food is fantastic. The service is great as well. Came in for lunch which was very nice (easy to get a reservation - not crowded). "

  • "We had a truly delicious meal to celebrate my son's birthday. Made to feel v welcome, staff delightful. My pork main was the best I have tasted. Boys said their steak was superb (and they are steak experts!). My daughter has the chicken which she enjoyed, - v succulent. A great find and would recommend. "
