Diner Reviews
  • "Took our Duke freshman daughter and roommate to dinner here. What a wonderful place! Absolutely delicious. A nice way to savor a meal and company. Staff was very knowledgeable and vivacious. We will be spending many visiting dinners at Little Dippers over the next four years!"

  • "Unlike big chain places, Little Dipper take the time to source ingredients from locals. Which also means they give back to their community."

  • "Fondue is an experience. This place is great. Good beer and wine selection. A lot of local stuff. It's probably best with a group of people. Everyone can order something different and everyone gets to try a selection. It was a lot of fun! I definitely recommend this place"

  • "Everyone needs to know about The Little Dipper. It is fantastic... service, food, atmosphere, the whole deal. GREAT SPOT!"

  • "My boyfriend and I went to TLD for the Thursday night "date night" deal, which is three courses each paired with a wine or beer. For $65 we think this is an excellent value. Some of the tables are a bit awkward and can create a bit of a reach for the fondue, but overall the interior is stylish and fun. It wasn't too loud or too quiet, and the food was excellent. It was definitely an experience though, not just a meal. We were there, just the two of us, for over two hours! It was lovely for date night though and we will likely return."

  • "We've lived in Durham for years and didn't know this place existed until checking Open Table for new and interesting venues. We enjoyed the food immensely. The staff were super, efficient and friendly, all be it a little overwhelmed for a multicourse dinner. My husband and never been a big fan of Fondue but he enthusiastically supports more visits. We will be there again and again."

  • "We came here for cheese and chocolate and had a great experience. The menu offered a wide variety of cheese and chocolate options and was reasonably priced. The food was excellent, the service friendly, and the atmosphere was very romantic. We'll definitely be back!"

  • "Nothing like the 80's Fondue, this is an original. Food, service, atmosphere, organization and concept all work. A great way to socialize with friends and located in a lively area of Durham. Recommended."

  • "A great place to celebrate a special occasion or treat visitors to the area of downtown Durham. VERY friendly and knowledgable staff. The whole experience is so much fun and I loved the 'rule' about kissing the person next to you if your food fell off your fork into the fondue pot (thank goodness for the 'rescue spoon'!). I also liked the relaxed atmosphere... Thanks Little Dipper!"

  • "One of the best things about fondue is how well conversation and the meal flow together. The little dipper is a quaint little spot that can get rowdy but also intimate depending on where you are sitting and the feel of your party. The food is wonderful, and the local selections are not to be missed!"

  • "I attended Little Dipper's Sunday brunch for the first time with my SO. We were seated at a cozy L-shaped booth. SO and I had the Bagels and Lox for the first course, both chose the bacon-and-cheddar quiche for the second, and then shared the fon-do-it-yourself french toast for the third. The first course was cream cheese, havarti cheese, champagne, and your typical lox toppings (salmon, capers, red onions) served with bagels, fruits and veggies. It was heavenly. The quiche was good, though I liked the crust more than the filling. The french toast, though, was a game-changer. Dipping pieces of locally baked bread into batter and then frying it ourselves was fun, goofy and so, SO delicious. It was the perfect end to a wonderful brunch."

  • "A RELAXING SPECIAL EVENING WITH FRIENDS (WHO ALSO LOVED THE LITTLE DIPPER). JEN, AN ASSISTANT MANAGER, SAW OUR RESERVATION AND BECAME OUR 'SERVER' THIS EVENING. (Jen has always been our server when we dine at LITTLE DIPPER). EVERY ASPECT OF THE FOOD, FROM SALAD TO CHEESE, COOKING AND CHOCOLATE FONDUES IS TOP QUALITY AND LOCALLY GROWN IF POSSIBLE."

  • "Went here for a date night. Really enjoyed the fondue concept. Food was fresh and well presented. Lots of local cheeses. Great service. Good local beer and cider selection. Wont satifisfy the hard core foodie, but this is more about the experience. Sunday brunch would be fun with kids."

  • "My wife and I spent our 4th wedding anniversary dining at The Little Dipper and could not have been more pleased. After making reservations via OpenTable, upon our arrival the staff knew who we were and more importantly why we were there. They took great care to provide excellent service and ensure our dining experience was memorable. If you have the chance, try their chocolate fondu with caramel and marshmallow creme. You won't regret it."

  • "The drinks were great, the food was even better, and the service blew us away! Easily the friendliest & most accommodating of any place I've been in Durham so far."

  • "We really enjoyed our meal. The fact that we "accidentally" came on Date Night, solved our problems of selecting the "right" wine, and which sauces to select, as well. We'd looked at the menu on-line, and those were our 2 dilemmas. Hoping you have gift certificates, we plan to give one to some friends who are getting married next month."

  • "Nice restaurant for a special occasion. Great place for romance or place to impress the new boyfriend/girlfriend. It is a special place and it is fun interacting with the food and server. Whoever you take there will be impressed. My wife got a free dessert for her birthday. Our bill hit $100, so be prepared for that, but don't let that you scare you. That included the full three course meal, drinks, desserts and tip. You can also go there for dessert and drinks to have a similar experience without racking up the large bill. We enjoyed it and will go again. I recommend putting it on the 'to-do-list'."

  • "We went to Little Dipper for my wife's birthday. The food was great. In addition to their regular menu items, they have a menu of items from local sources. They have Brightleaf cider from Bull City Ciderworks on tap and I enjoyed a pint. We had the cheese fondue selection from the local list which was a brie and pesto fondue with a cider base with cheese from a creamery in Chapel Hill. My wife said she thought it was the best cheese fondue she had ever had. Definite winner! Main course was great, though the veggies provided were a little heavy on squash and zucchini, which are not my favorite veggies, but my wife enjoyed them. Chocolate fondue was wonderful; if there are only 2 of you, go for the small size."

  • "So much better than melting pot. Servers were friendly and really on top of their game. They got a little behind during a rush, but still good. Food was excellent and there was plenty of it."

  • "We had a girls night here recently and had a BLAST! They have "ladies night" on Wednesdays where you get cheese & chocolate for just $9! It was great!!!! We had a large group of 14 ladies and our server Matt was very attentive to our needs."

  • "I love this place! The food is always amazing and just the overall experience is really great. The service is always slow unfortunately. I really don't understand what happens to our waitress but they always go missing for a really long time, and I'm forced to ask someone else to find them. If the service caught up w/ the great food, this place would be off the charts."

  • "Fun experience dining. Venue is a remodeled old tobacco warehouse with beautiful exposed brick, rustic wood floors in a newer up & coming area of Durham. Lots of shops & dining in the area. Great for date night or special occasions with adults or kids old enough to participate in cooking their own food. Wait staff knowledgeable and ready to help you select options. Dessert is absolute must!!"

  • "I went to the Little Dipper with my wife for our 11th wedding anniversary, and had never been before. I was thoroughly impressed with the level of customer care they provided, from the moment we walked in the door until we left. We went all out and got the Full Moon, and it was well worth it. Everything was so fresh and delicious, and the local bread was definitely a nice touch. I've already started planning our next outing, and can't wait to go back!"

  • "Our waiter was awesome, very accommodating as we brought hubby's 94 y/o mom. We thoroughly enjoyed playing with our food...for 2.5 hours. We didn't feel rushed, took our time savoring each bite. The decor is very nice & unique."

  • "This was our third or fourth time going here and it was another great experience. The drink menu is really fun and the food is even better. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants a twist and upgrade on the melting pot experience. They use bread from a local bakery. They have a 919 menu where most if not all of your ingredients are from local farms. If you enjoy melting pot but also like to support local businesses… Give this place a try"

  • "A good experience. The cheese fondue and the dessert course were definitely the highlights and worth going just for that. The entrees were hit or miss. Since the menu and options are somewhat complex the servers did a nice job of explaining things and making suggestions. Our kids were particularly unruly that night and they did a really nice job of accommodating us in that regard. Would definitely go again sometime."

  • "Food was good. My soda was flat and the men's bathroom was dirty but otherwise the food was very good. I would definitely consider trying again."

  • "This is my second time at the Little Dipper and this time for Triangle Restaurant Week. It was a bit noisy and our server seemed a bit rush, but maybe it was because of the special week. We did the 4-course entree for $30, a great price. We tried the baja cheddar which just seemed like a fancier Mexican queso. For my entree, I had the spinach ravioli, scallops, filet, and marinated portabello, all very good. For dessert, we shared the fluffernutter which was pretty devilish. Chocolate, peanut butter, and marshmallow? Overall, still a good experience, just be patient if the restaurant is busy."

  • "I found The Little Dipper during Triangle Restaurant week. I've been to The Melting Pot a few times and can honestly say that I never need to go back. The Little Dipper had great options, so many more dipping sauces, including chefs choice and I loved that each person could pick different meats/entree. The service was also excellent. "
