A word from The Lifesaving Station - Sanderling Resort
Located in the original—and splendidly restored—Caffey’s Inlet Life Saving Station No. 5, the Lifesaving Station is a casual, three-meal-a-day restaurant celebrating southern coastal cuisine and regional, organic products. New with the renovations is a spacious outside seating deck and large fireplace.

Known for its “best breakfast on the Outer Banks” and a-la-carte Sunday brunch, the Lifesaving Station is a favorite Duck, N.C. restaurant choice for both locals and vacationers. And be sure the try the Lifesaving Station’s famous Carolina BBQ Sampler and Spring Mountain Farms Buttermilk Fried Chicken, always on the menu.

The Lifesaving Station maintains an impressive wine list. Local breweries are featured while specialty cocktails feature coastal “house cocktails” and bourbons. Upstairs, the renovated No. 5 offers sweeping views of the Currituck Sound. The relaxed atmosphere is conducive to catching the game and enjoying quality cuisine.

Diner Reviews
  • "This is the first time we have been back to this restaurant since they reopened. Everyone in my party found it to be a most pleasurable experience. The food was very tasteful and the presentation was very nice. The wait staff were pleasant and somewhat short handed but it wasn't to the point that anyone was annoyed. It helped with the relaxing enjoyment of friends, and food. The libations were good pours. We will definitely go back here again."

  • "5 best friends went to here for a Birthday. Wanda was wonderful taking care of us (She makes a mean Bloody Mary). Food was great! Day was cold and rainy so the burning fireplace was great! When the party was over she took our picture so we would remember a very nice time!! Thank you Wanda"

  • "We vacation in Corolla every January and have eaten at the Lifesaving Station on numerous occasions. They under went renovations in the past year and we didn't enjoy this meal nearly as much as prior visits. The ambience is quite low key but not unpleasantly so. The service was friendly but not very attentive or prompt. The food was generally good but did not justify the new price structure. Overall it was not an unpleasant experience but that it not a recommendation."

  • "We love to stay at the Sanderling once or twice each year. We recently were there over New Year's and ate breakfast at the Life Saving Station for the first time since the change of ownership. Sadly what was an outstanding dining experience has now morphed into a good but not great experience. The farmer's omlet is supposed to have goat cheese but virtually none was to be found is just one example. The service, once so special was now rather ordinary. We spoke to guests who had dinner there and they were also underwhelmed. We sincerely hope that feedback such as this will enable this restaurance to regain it's former glory."

  • "I was naively not expecting much more than typical hotel fare. Boy was I wrong. Great food, reasonably priced, and excellent service."

  • "The life saving restaurant keeps getting better and better. This spot offers a bit of salvation in with good takes on southern comfort food. With a rising interest in local and sustainable food sources, we had great meals of local tuna cooked to perfection, scrumptious local rockfish and rock solid fried chicken. The service is casual and very friendly and would make even non-locals feel like locals. This is a great option when you are tired of grilling the best steaks on the planet from Tommy's Market at home."

  • "As usual an excellent meal was had by all. The chef, who works at Kimball's Kitchen on season, brought his magic to the Lifesaving Station for our pre-Christmas dinner. From the local tuna to the scallops, a great meal was enjoyed. We will look forward to many more dinners this winter."

  • "Pricey for average food. Ordered Duck and it came out extremely dry...had to send it back...and it came back the same exact way after letting the server now the issue. My wife's food was a large plate of BBQ but just average, would rather have quality over quantity."

  • "Had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner with my family at The Lifesaving Station. This was the first time in years that we hadn't cooked dinner at home for Thanksgiving so it was nice to be pampered and waited on for a change. Food was delicious and would highly recommend."

  • "There was a family there with 3 children; the 2 youngest were allowed to run around and the parents did nothing to control their behavior. They got in the way of the staff . The little girl was yelling and the boy whistling. All very annoying to the rest off the dinners. At another table with 2 well behaved children , the parents had brought activities for the children. Big difference"

  • "My wife and had a wonderful dinner at The Life Saving Station at the Sanderling Resort last Saturday night. It was her birthday and the staff gave us a great table right by the fireplace. The food was excellent and so was the service. The Life Saving Station menu has a variety of seafood and meat dishes. We split a salad and then my wife had seared scallops and I had tuna. Both entrees tasted great the portion size was sufficient such that that we took food home for some tasty leftovers the next afternoon. The meal prices are competitive and because we live locally we were given a "locals discount". My wife and I could not have been happier with our meals and our overall experience."

  • "This restaurant was good, not great. Nice to have the option on the property of the Sanderling though. Short walk to dinner and back to room."

  • "We stopped for lunch after we checked out of our hotel, before we started home. We were the only ones there which I don't understand as the food was great and the service was friendly. I had a crab cake sandwich - huge on a soft roll with butter lettuce. It came with homemade chips that were addictive. Lunch prices were in line with all the other local restaurants we visited during our vacation. We would go back if we are ever in the Outer Banks again."

  • "note to restaurant about 50th wedding anniversary was not acknowledged in any way, even with our reservation. upon being seated we requested overly loud music to be turned down. it was done. waitress was somewhat hard to understand but competant enough. no real interaction...justan atendent. food was good although my prefrence is not to have all in one center pile. i have dined here before and i expected more I guess give it a B+"
