We were seated promptly, and service was very good - attentive and friendly. The menu is a classic steak house menu, but there are some very nice non-steak options as well, including a daily specials list. The grilled monkfish special was delicious. The other nice feature is that the sides are served family style, which allows people to eat the amount they want. Desserts were shown on a tray by the server, which of course meant we ordered some! Add the Au poivre sauce and you have a 5 star meal. One disappointment we did have this time though is the appetized and au gratin side dish. the crab cake was wonderful but cold, the au gratin's were undercooked (this is the third time this happened). We love the su gratin's flavor, but the potatoes were crunchy, although not as undercooked as the last time, so we ate them anyway..We even told the waitress up front what had happened before and still they were not cooked through. Not sure if it is because we were early, it was not crowded so they had time to do it right. My husband and son always get a steak and it is cooked right and the quality is the best in town. I love the lamb. The seafood tower app. is a great choice for a group. Would highly recommend this restaurant. My wife said she would love to go there again on our next visit to Portsmouth only 40 miles away. The Library is much better than that highly rated Restaurant Massimo which we went the night before which we will never go back to Massimo again. Oh, you want cheap? Not here. You get what you pay for and here prices are as good or better than other high end restaurants where you can get a seat - but they are NOT cheap. I think the Library beats Ruths Chris, Mortons, all those BIG MEAT chains on QUALITY 1st and on PRICE 2nd. The Restaurant Week menu had great choices but we decided to order off the Restaurant Week menu. Our meal was excellent. The portions were great. I did take part of my meal home with me. My husband ate all of his. We ordered the Land and Sea dinner which was jumbo sea scallops and tenderloin tips, garlic mashed potatoes and vegetable of the day. My husband also ordered a salad and I had soup. It was reasonably priced. This certainly turned out to be the perfect place to celebrate our anniversary. It was a comfortable environment and the service most congenial and prompt, but we were not rushed in any way. I am a desert fan, so the meal was ended on a very high note. It was restaurant week, a nice crowd. There was also a retirement party w/a women who laughed like a screaming hyena. The staff was very apologetic, not the restaurant's fault.
The Library has always been delicious. I don't know why I went out during restaurant week, and then ordered off the special menu. The potatoes were over the golden brown and delicious level, and the few veggies were limp and over cooked.

The seafood tower was wonderful and fresh, the steaks perfectly prepared and the sides especially the asparagus and steak fries great.
