After a terrible cab ride get someone who knows the place. The resturant made up for a bad start ride, the service & food excellent. The room was romantic & just enough lighting, what a wine list

.Our third trip to The Library and it was perfect again. Small setting allows for personal conversation and quiet dining. Staff is very knowledgeable and friendly and very attentive. Menu is perfect and each selection is mouthwatering. The Library has become our all-time favorite. Make sure to arrive early and enjoy the Roof Top Bar.

My wife and I selected this restaurant at the recommendation of our concierge at the Vendu Inn. Having only stayed 3 nights in Charleston, this restaurant was by far, our favorite. We felt as though we were in the library of one of the mansions surrounded by beautiful artwork. The service was exceptional and the food spectacular from the sampling of CousCous, to our appetizers and perfectly prepared entrees, to the best dessert of Pecan pie that my wife has ever had! Although the Library is small, we were not rushed at all. It made for a very nice evening.

The Library is small, intimate and serves exceptional food. The waiter, Charles, was very knowledgeable, professional and addressed us by name. Perhaps not as well know as the "Top 5 Restaurants", such as the Charleston Grill or 82 Queen, the Library ranks easily up with those in menu choices, culinary achievement, service and attention to detail.

Wonderful waiter explained every dish in full detail to help us decide since everything sounded fabulous. Tomato salad with croutons & mozzarella was amazing. Tomatoes were warm & full of flavor as was the mozzarella. Lobster scampi was excellent & had lots of big pieces of lobster. Veal was very light and combined with seasonal veggies. Excellent flavor combos. Beautiful quiet & romantic setting.

I am picky about service in fine dining restaurants, and the service at The Library was exceptional. There was not even a minor mistake. Everything, from setting the tableware to scraping the crumbs was done quickly in inobtrusively. The chef provides a muse bouche which was very good and interesting. Then we had the bread, a rosemary popover with cinnamon butter that was divine. I had an heirloom tomato panceanella salad. The heirloom tomatoes were better than the ones I've grown myself. For an entree I had scallops with an orange sauce and rissotto. The scallops were perfectly cooked, lightly brown and crispy around the edges. This place is definitely a find. We will definitely return.

We took our 7 and 10 yr olds for a 5:30 dinner seating and had an excellent experience. We were concerned that the restaurant might not be well suited for kids (although ours are well dressed and well behaved :-)), but the wait staff and kitchen were very accomodating and provided several off-menu options. If taking kids, I would definitely recommend the earliest seating possible. The adults' meals were absolutely outstanding. Everything was beautifully plated and tasted fantastic. The dining room is small, and when we were there, very quiet. The decor and ambiance is very tasteful, great for a romantic evening or just a nice quiet adult night out.

The Library is an intimate romantic restaurant special enough for a celebration dinner and yet perfect for a simple night out. My wife and I occasionally have a pre-show dinner at The Library and are always pleased with the food and the friendly service. Food presentation is beautiful and delicious. If you are a chocolateholic then the lave cake is a must have. Local or visitor you will enjoy your time at The Library

Small, quiet and refined white tablecloth dining establishment but my husband and I were made to feel welcome even though we were not "dressed up". Everything was top notch from the service to the pre-dinner cocktail (gin and tonic with mostly gin!) right down to the dessert and after dinner coffee. If it's on the menu, have the heirloom tomato and mozzarella salad - very tasty. We also recommend the crab cakes and the seared scallop entrees. And instead of bringing a basket of bread to your table, they serve hot basil popovers with cinnamon butter! Our new favorite thing!

I had an opportunity to visit Charleston recently. Thoroughly enjoyed The Library. Got a last minute booking through Open Table. Wonderful service. Our seating was not an issue, even though two of our party arrived 15 minutes late. The food was superb. I had the house version of Shrimp and Grits. Both of my dining companions chose beef options. The serving staff was excellent, even related some of the more mysterious goings on in the old building...Everyone was very happy! Highly recommend.

Loved, loved, loved this Restaurant. It was quaint and quiet enough to be able to carry on conversations with a companion at the table. The food was outstanding, well prepared and presented with a wonderful flair. Our waitress was very informed on the evening's menu which makes for a seamless wonderful night out. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and will return when we head back to Charleston!! Highly recommend The Library Restaurant. (Don't forget to check out the Rooftop Bar above the restaurant. Fun to see.)

My wife, Sharon, and I love to try new places. The Library was a very nice surprise for us. Friends do not know about it and that is a shame. The food and service were excellent. This is a small restaurant, just off East Bay, that is really good for a place for you and your spouse, other, or date to enjoy the night. More people need to try it. You will go back!

We booked this restaurant at the last minute based on other recommendations here. It is a very tiny place which is part of an inn. The service was terrific (a team of two), the food was super (creative and well executed) and the restaurant was both elegant and intimate. The chef delivered the desserts personally which was also a very nice touch. We look forward to our next visit.

My girlfriend and I had dinner here during a brief stay in Charleston for the Fourth of July holiday. The restaurant's dining room is small, but there were not many diners present when we arrived, so that was a non-issue. The food and service were excellent. The wait-staff was extremely attentive. It had rained on my girlfriend and I just a bit when we walked from our hotel to the restaurant, and the wait-staff brought us towels upon our arrival so that we could dry ourselves and get comfortable again quickly. For those who admire the French Quarter streetscape in Charleston, and desire easy-access to Waterfront Park for the annual fireworks shows from Patriots Point, this is the place to visit for a memorable holiday experience!

When we walk in, my wife and I were pleasantly greeted and was seated immediately. The atmosphere was quant and cosy, about ten other guest were there..Music and lighting really set the mood for the evening.. The menu selections were difficult to choose from ( they all appeared to be fabulous ). My wife and I started with an endive salad which was very very good. The main course we decided on Filet mignon and pheasant selections.. Both were presented very well and prepared to perfection..Our overall experience would be rated as an A+++++. The service, presentation and flavors we experienced were " seemless perfection ".

We had a party of five and everyone enjoyed their food but the wait staff was so bad that it took way from the over all experience. It is really to bad because I'd rate The Library much higher if they had different wait staff. We all concluded that we thought the food was on par with other high end restaurants in the area but would not return because the wait staff made paying the price for the food not worth it.

My husband is a "crab cake snob," having been raised in Maryland, and he found these outstanding. I had pheasant and was also very pleased with the preparation, flavors etc. We both appreciated the unusual accompaniments: basil-flavored rice and asparagus for him, spaghetti squash, rutabagas, mushrooms, and roasted potatoes in a broth-based sauce for me. Service was attentive and courteous in a relaxed way that made us feel welcome and at ease. The only drawback is that the room is so small that voices carry easily even at a normal conversational levels, so we could hear not only the couple next to us, but also two couples across the room. Perhaps some tasteful background music would help muffle the sound?

We had ever dined here before & were pleasantly surprised to find it so friendly. We pulled up to the front of the Vendue Inn to allow the ladies to hop out and hold our 8 pm reservation. We were running 15 minutes late due to Charleston traffic (plan accordingly). The doorman offered to valet the car. Many thanks to him. The food & service were top notch. Our entrees included the lobster risotto, filet mignon, & crab cakes. The chef sent us a complimentary mushroom bisque that was very tasty.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to "The Library". We're from around New Orleans and were a bit hesitant to order seafood here. I did however, order a crab cake which was my best ever and it was a complete meal. The escargot was also good. The restaurant is small, quiet and beautiful with excellent art on the walls. Truly a treat! Rhonda The service too was excellent. We left our credit card by mistake and the waiter chased us down the street to return it. Very friendly staff.

The food was OK, nothing to brag about as far as we are concerned for the amount of money charged. The restaurant was way too quiet. There were about 6 couples having dinner, mostly sitting in one small area. Everyone could hear each others conversations. I would suggest spreading out the diners so they could enjoy each others conversation. Our server did not provide much information about the food, another one was way more informative to his diners.

We loved the beautiful dining room setting, and our attentive two wait staff professionals were cordial and knew their menu well. But the stars of the show were the made in house duck sausage appetizer, the lobster scampi and the most unusual presentation of shrimp and grits we've seen....a tempura style that was outstanding! Hard to beat, but then we decided to try the gelato tree....literally a sculpture we understand the chef brought with him from Florida....on which were placed the four portions of gelato flavors we chose to share. All were great, but you must try the habenero cinammon gelato. Be prepared for a kick in the taste buds!
