A word from The Liberty
The Liberty is Charlotte’s first Gastro pub. Our goal is to provide great food and drink at a reasonable cost. The first Gastropubs started in London as many top chefs turned away from the high costs of fine dining, wanting to do their food in a more casual setting.
We also share this vision. Our menu offers elevated comfort foods and pub fare using the best ingredients available. We serve 19 hand crafted beers on tap (plus PBR!), and another 60 by the bottle. Our wine list is carefully chosen to give you 30 affordable wines by the glass. Naturally, we also have a full selection of spirits as well.
We don't have a dress code, or for that matter, an ounce of pretension. We are casual enough for jeans and a tee shirt, but nice enough for a first date.
We are a neighborhood establishment, sitting at the gateway to South End and Dilworth, with a light rail stop in our parking lot.
We are unlike anything else in Charlotte.
Welcome to The Liberty.

Diner Reviews
  • "We've been to The Liberty on several occasions with the most recent being for Easter brunch. The menu never disappoints with unique options and high quality ingredients. This place is fantastic for foodies. The salted caramel budino is the perfect dessert for any meal, and the burgers are the best in Charlotte. The drink selection at The Liberty is also fantastic, with a solid beer and wine selection and crafted liquor drinks. "

  • "The choices were varied. The chicken and waffles dish was excellent. Good blend of flavors and my husband enjoyed the pea soup and the salmon entree the caramel boudin is always a special dessert. "

  • "This restaurant was rated a top 25 in Charlotte, the food was ordinary and the design of the restaurant was weird, the parking was a nightmare"

  • "My family loves The Liberty. There is a wide range of beer and food ranges from burger and salads to really nices entrees. I personally have gotten burges from here and they are awesome! They are HUGE and taste so good. Their seasoned truffle parmesan fries are the best."

  • "The food and service here are always spectacular. I've never had a complaint about this place and I've tried a different burger each time, and love them all! Waitstaff is in point and quick to bring items ordered."

  • "This is a nice place to eat a hamburger and have a beer."

  • "Had a great Saturday lunch. With my wife and mother. Mother loved her burger and she is hard to please. Will make effort to return soon"

  • "The atmosphere is rustic with lots of back lighting. Had a GREAT meal. One in group had a hamburger, fish and chips, chicken sandwich and bangers and mash. We don't drink beer so cannot comment on that but the drink menu is extensive, lots of craft beers. As for the food, Hamburger was at least 1/2 pound, cooked as you request and it came out perfect. The chicken sandwich was normal. Fish and chips were excellent, chips were Parmesan garlic coated and tasted great. I had the bangers and mash and they were also Excellent. Sausage had a good flavor and the potatoes were perfect mash. The gravy had pan fried onions and it too was super. It was very cold and could not get comfortable."

  • "There was four of us for dinner and everything we got was delicious: Mussels, house chips, salmon, chicken, bangers and pork chop. All delicious. We grabbed a drink in the bar before our reservation. Good beer list & pretty decent wine list, as well. The bartender's attitude was less than great, but everything was very enjoyable."

  • "My husband and I went here for dinner over the weekend and were so impressed, we went over to the bar area after our meal to watch some basketball over another beer and dessert. The menu was fun with plenty of unique and delicious looking options, and indeed the food was as well-prepared and high quality as we had hoped. Definitely would recommend this to friends, both for the food as well as the beer menu, which was WONDERFUL! Our server and the bar staff were also all fantastic. We'll be returning for sure!"

  • "We were celebrating an upcoming wedding with several out of town guests, and The Liberty handled our part of 12 very well. The menu was a hit with everyone, including the young kids in the party. The food was very fresh and tasty."

  • "We have eaten at The Liberty several times and we have always enjoyed our meals. Their menu has enough variety to accommodate a group - or, at least it does for us. Some of their appetizers are suitable for entrées if someone does have a smaller volume preference. Tried the fish and chips on this visit and was very pleased - tasty, well presented, appropriate amount, etc. Not the cheapest place you will ever eat but their prices are tolerable. Try The Liberty if you need a better-than-average "American" restaurant. It is in a busy location, though; parking can be a challenge. That means, allow a few extra minutes (coming and going) - you may need them."

  • "We had a large group dining on Sunday morning that included a child. We were a little late making our reservation but the staff was super accommodating and had no problem holding the table for us. Most of the table ordered burgers for lunch and they were amazing! And the fries were addicting. We had started the meal with fried pickles, the blue cheese chips and biscuits (there were 11 of us). All were fantastic and I would order them all again in a heart beat. The staff was great with keeping our glasses full and the food came out in a reasonable manner - even the 2 year old didn't get restless. Thank you for a wonderful lunch - we'll be back!"

  • "After hearing all the hype I was excited.....doesn't meet the hype. Food was ok, nothing special. Staff needs a little training. Our server struggled explaining menu items. A couple were comical, but I don't want to embarrass anyone. Nothing special"

  • "Hands down, the best combination of on tap micro brews and quality menu options in charlotte"

  • "The Liberty is known for their burgers. Two of my companions ordered medium rare burgers and both were overcooked and dry. The service was fine, but we were disappointed with the food."

  • "I love The Liberty! I heard about it through friends and checked it out on Yelp. I've only been there once, but it was amazing! We started with the Poutine Grown Up Cheese Fries! Phenomenal! Short ribs are one of my favorite things on planet Earth and to put that one crispy fries is a work of genius! After that, I had the Southern Crunch Burger. Delicious as well! The pimentos cheese and the jalapeño bacon add a nice amount of spice to the burger. And the chips! Wow! The chips stayed crunchy and didn't get soggy. It was arguably the best burger I've ever had! Seriously! I washed it down with a great beer from Birdsong! The Honey Pie IPA. I can't wait to go back to The Liberty!"

  • "A friend who was craving a burger and I headed straight for the Liberty and rightly so. A huge burger cooked to perfection with cheese and wonderful bacon along with a generous portion of French fries. A good choice!"

  • "We had a large group and ordered from the regular menu. Food was great! Service could have been better (more attentive)"

  • "Four in our party. Diner 1 had the fish 'n chips; it was excellent. Diner 2 had the salmon; it was good but the sauce was a bit overpowering. Diner 3 had a garden salad with a side of shrimp; it was a good choice for her. Diner 4 had the chicken sandwich; it was ridiciously too big (tall) to eat...had to dismantle it and use a fork and knive. We had a good laugh at the chicken sandwich; what makes them think that it's a good idea to serve something that absolutely no one could possibly eat...no one's mouth is that large."

  • "My dining experience was great - food and service were excellent. Pricies were very reasonable. My only complaint is that there is not enough parking available. I drove around the lot for 10 minutes trying to find a space."
    Dined on 2/25/2014
  • "The food was great. I had the Crunch burger and wife had the aged burger and they were great. I would recommend side of their chips instead of the fries. The waitress at the time was sparse but did show up every now and then. I know we used a coupon but to include tip for table of 2 always disappoints me and usually lessens the tip I would have given."

  • "My entire family came to town to see me perform in an opera. I'm always trying to impress them, so I looked around for a great restaurant to take them to and settled on The Liberty. It was quiet enough that we could all have a conversation, plus I'd been there before and knew that the food was great. Well, The Liberty did not disappoint. We all had burgers that night, and they were amazing! Some of us had the lamb burger. Superb! I think my family was sufficiently impressed, and I will certainly be back."

  • "Absolutely THE best burger in town! And - ohmy! - their homemade pretzles are fantastic!!!! I love that you can get your burger cooked medium rare if you like! Wish there was one closer to my home in 28226!"

  • "Wonderful location for burgers as well an assortment of interesting dinners....and super appetizers. They offered a nice variety of different types of burgers from the beef/pork , to vegetarian, to lamb! The homemade pretzels with mustard and cheese dips were very soft and tasty. It is a bit noisy but not so much that you can not carry on a conversation. Very busy on a Saturday night so would suggest a reservation."

  • "When we walked in, it had a great ambience and was definitely hopping. We were seated immediately which was great. Soon after, a server brought us waters and took our drink orders. The drinks came quickly and she then took our food orders, which again came out very quickly much to our delight. The burgers were awesome. That being said, the fries were soggy. Unfortunately, after receiving the food, our server was no where to be found. My husband actually had to go up to the hostess and ask if they can find her. Because our server went MIA, those of us who needed extra ketchup, a refill on our drinks, etc. were S.O.L."

  • "Their name doesn't match how great a place the restaurant is - farm to table food, huge craft beer and beer selection, great atmosphere and great location. I highly recommend The Liberty. We've been there 3 times and have enjoyed it more each time. Food is fresh, creatively plated, fabulous flavors...their fresh soft pretzel appetizer is a fun way to start the meal!!"

  • "I asked for a burger well done and one side of it came out pink. The side that was cooked well was really good. However, they promote themselves as having the best burger in Charlotte....so, I would think a well burger should be an easy task for them."

  • "After checking the menu out for restaurant week my boyfriend and I decided to try The Liberty. The food was great not sure if they have those hush-puppies on the regular menu but those things will change your life!! I brought another order to go!!!! Will def try again for the burgers."
    Dined on 1/25/2014
  • "The Restaurant Week menu was wonderfully varied, and all the selections we had were top notch. The brewmaster's plate was really outstanding! It took a little while for our dessert to come out, but since we had good beer to distract us, it was ok. The beer selection, including many notable local brews, is always a plus at The Liberty."

  • "Only my 1st visit to the Liberty, went during Restaurant week. The food my wife and I had we're well prepared and delicious. The on tap beer selection was very good for a restaurant. We need to go back and try some things off the menu in the future."
    Dined on 1/25/2014
  • "Tom's food delicious as usual but our server was way too rushed so much that it was completely unpleasant. It was a busy Saturday night and restaurant week specials and very crowded but this is no excuse. Plus this is a very beer oriented restaurant and server obviously had little knowledge of beer."
    Dined on 1/25/2014
  • "Menu features a modest number of choices in each category with enough variety to satisfy most diners. We appreciated this, as opposed to voluminous menus that leave one pondering forever. Between the 2 of us, we had 2 apps, 2 dinners and 2 desserts. The apps and dinners were well prepared and the servings decent sized. Desserts were good, not outstanding, and modest sized. We especially loved the craft beer list and the ability to pair our dining choices appropriately. We will definitely return."

  • "If you've never experienced something like this...YOU SHOULD! The pig burger contains pork & beef. aioli sauce, pepper jack cheese, pepper bacon, lettuce & tomato. I chose fries as a side. That thing was huge. I cut it half but I still had the fear of opening to wide and having my jaws locked. But I did it without issue. omg that thing was good. extremely filling. The other guest had the gastropub burger. He completely enjoyed his as well. It was a messy eat that was worth the time! They also have a very good beer selection on tap. I see a couple of other opportunities to try on my next return. Looking forward to bringing friends here. Thank you open table! I was able to walkin & be seated right away while others had to wait."

  • "This place has been on my list to try for a year now. But somehow I would never remember it. So we committed to dine here for restaurant week. They have a very simple menu with a twist to everything. Ex: hushpuppies stuffed with pork belly. Who'd have thunk?!? Everyone at the table completely enjoyed what they ordered. I usually dine certain places for specific items and will only eat there for that 1 or 2 item. But I don't think that will not be a problem. They have a huge selection of different things I want to return and try. Looking forward to a return to try the Pig Burger I saw across from the table. Unfortunately I was not allowed to taste it. I was told it was to good to share."
