A word from The Liberty
The Liberty is Charlotte’s first Gastro pub. Our goal is to provide great food and drink at a reasonable cost. The first Gastropubs started in London as many top chefs turned away from the high costs of fine dining, wanting to do their food in a more casual setting.
We also share this vision. Our menu offers elevated comfort foods and pub fare using the best ingredients available. We serve 19 hand crafted beers on tap (plus PBR!), and another 60 by the bottle. Our wine list is carefully chosen to give you 30 affordable wines by the glass. Naturally, we also have a full selection of spirits as well.
We don't have a dress code, or for that matter, an ounce of pretension. We are casual enough for jeans and a tee shirt, but nice enough for a first date.
We are a neighborhood establishment, sitting at the gateway to South End and Dilworth, with a light rail stop in our parking lot.
We are unlike anything else in Charlotte.
Welcome to The Liberty.

Diner Reviews
  • "We love The Liberty and actually go often. Normally, for Restaurant Week, we try new places, but since Chicken and Waffles was on their special menu, we thought we'd go. We get there, no Chicken & Waffles. In its place was some fancified Chicken & Dumplings, which was actually Cornish Hen & 3 Gnocchis with a slimy fried egg on top. I'm sorry, I love The Liberty, but it just wasn't good. Had to remove the fried egg because it was pretty much raw. Just plain couldn't eat the entree. I must say, the corn chowder for starters was good, and the Salted Caramel Budino for dessert redeemed them. We actually found The Liberty during a previous Restaurant Week, but this time, I think they could have put a little more love into their menu."

  • "What a find! We went because of restaurant week. The food was awesome! The pork belly lollipops are to die for! Our server was attentive without be overbearing - great selection of local craft brews. We will be back!"

  • "We went to The Liberty for restaurant week which is a set menu. I was really looking forward to the Chicken and Waffles but the menu was changed when we arrived and only Chicken and Dumplings was listed. I asked about the Chicken and Waffles but our server couldn't explain why the menu was changed. I figured I would get the chicken still but then I was told that they were out of chicken!!! I ordered the seafood broil instead and it was flavorful but the mussels and clams were very small and there were only several shrimp. I would go there again for some lower-priced options but not for dinner or restaurant week."

  • "Looking for a dinner spot on a Sunday before catching a flight home we choose this place, apparently what we non-locals didn't realize was that most southern barbecue joints close early on Sundays. What we discovered was a terrific place for drinks, unique foods and local ambiance. What we didn't find was an attentive staff. Our "last straw" was when we had to go to the bar ourselves to get our own drink refills, which in itself doesn't seem like a big deal, but when that's where you find your waitress hanging out and not even offering an apology for ignoring us we took offense. If ever in town again we might give them another try but unfortunately this experience was disappointing."

  • "The food was served with wonderful presentation and tasted as good as it looked. Whole fresh ingredients and was delicious. They also had an extensive craft beer list with unique selections. Would recommend."

  • "I really enjoy The Liberty - delicious food, cool atmosphere. Everything I've tried has been fantastic there and they have fun unique flavors assembled in a different way."

  • "Food was fine but the menu is small and overpriced. Its limited to burgers and only a few dishes. Nothing bad to say but I don't know if ill return based on the menu"

  • "This is your typical craft beer type house. The décor is fitting. Lot's of wood with a flair of modern. The food is good, but nothing much better than you'd get at Chili's. They do try to put a spin on the food to make it different. I had the pulled pork with tortillas. It is a fun way to eat pork, but the flavor wasn't there. The mixed berry cobbler was good- plenty of fruit! My spouse had the steak w/ asparagus & fries. Again, the steak was prepared correctly, but the combo of ingredients didn't seem very special. We never did receive our Georgia boiled peanuts we were promised... Service was not very good. "Kara B." let our drinks run dry several times."

  • "We went to Liberty for Restaurant Week promotion. It was our first visit to the restaurant. Party of 6 for a special occasion. Everything was nice, food good, service above average, and value for the price. Entire party enjoyed themselves and we would go back again."

  • "The food was good, however, I expected it to be better. The Mediterranean Risotto, was bascially a bowl of vegtables. It was ok, but it was not risotto. We went at 5 pm and still we had to wait for refills. My experience was just ok, especially when compared to other locations in the area. I like to support locally owned establishments and would probably come back just to see if it was an off night, hopefully my next experience will be an improvement compared to my first."

  • "This is a great place for the people that want to have great food for a relatively cheap price. I took a girl here for a first date and it was a fitting place to do so. It's quiet enough you can hear each other talk and the atmosphere is laid back. This is not a place you go to impress someone with money, but rather a place that is not intimidating for anyone involved. The beer and mixed drink selection is good and the service was fast and friendly. The burgers were not greasy, although they were messy, and the fries were crispy. I will definitely go back here with friends or a date in the future."

  • "The food was excellent, however, our server would often seem to be missing. We ran a different server down to assist us with a slight order hiccup. We had to wait to get drinks refilled and then finally seemed like it took longer than should to get our check. Thankfully we weren't late to our next engagement. If it wasn't for the good food, I probably wouldn't go back."

  • "This may be the worst server ever. We came for Father's Day brunch. It took the server 10 minutes to come to our table, another 10 to bring drinks, another 25 minutes to take our order, and another 30 minutes to receive our order. The guy seemed annoyed when ever we asked for anything, but he kept saying thank you. My father in law had asked him what cheeses were in the Mac and cheese. The server didn't know. After walking by the table three times he finally said as he was passing by "Parm and cheddar." That's it. The food was great, but we will never return."

  • "Didn't like the calamari appetizer. Burger was overdone, even at "medium" it was too crisp with very little pink. $14 burger is too expensive! Very salty tasting. Service was very slow to engage us initially but was fine thereafter. "

  • "We must have caught them on an OFF NIGHT. Our server was pathetic - we needed to ask and re-ask and (most of the time) stop another server to get even minimal service. Two of us ordered beers that were served WARM - yucky warm - and when we alerted one server to the concern we were told, "Oh, yeah, we are having some problems with our draft beers". And, still attempting to sell them - duh??? When our food (FINALLY!) came the fries/chips were COLD - like oil residue was beginning to harden on them. To top it all we had mentioned on the reservation that we needed to keep an eye on the time and allowed +2 hours for dinner (for FOUR!) our server COULD NOT BE FOUND to give us the check and we LATE! Too bad for Liberty - it should do better."

  • "This place has taken "burgers and beer" to a new level. Our table tried three different burgerd, all of which were imaginative and very tasty. Their jalapeno bacon is amazing! They actively maintain their beer list to include distinctive selections. We were surprised to find a recent release from Boulevard in our native Kansas City. They also have a large unpublished kid's menu--just ask your server. Overall,an excellent choice for a family meal."

  • "WE had a group of 8 for dinner. We went on a friend's recommendation and we were happy with the choice. Seated promptly at out reservation time. Service was excellent. Food was great. This was a first time for all eight of us and I think all will be back. "

  • "While the price might be a little high for the beers, the food was amazing, the atmosphere is great, and the selection of beers was top notch. Loved this place. Will definitely be coming back. Also, that was definitely one of the two best burgers I've ever had. "

  • "We went to the Liberty for the first time. It was very good experience. The burgers were great. We sat in the bar area and it was a nice bar scene. The service was good too. They had a nice beer and drink list. Unfortunately, they had run out of sliders. They could also use a few more tvs in the bar area. It would be worth going back there again. It's a nice place to hang out with friends. "

  • "I've been to The Liberty before and it's been fabulous, but our waitress was not very good. She messed up half of the orders, did not really listen, and was not very attentive. Fortunately the manager agreed to comp our appetizer, but it was not an enjoyable dinner."

  • "We've been here twice and have enjoyed our meals both times! The last time we had a meal of appetizers and salad. Wonderful!"

  • "The service was attentive and prompt. We ordered the poutine as an appetizer and it was an excellent, hearty choice. The gravy was clearly of high quality and was dripping with umami. Seriously, if it wouldn't have been rude, I'd have used a straw. The included beef short rib meat reminded me of grandma's pot roast. My wife had the Prime Ground Pub Burger, while I had the "Steak and Sauce." My small sample of her burger was very good, with the cheddar being the star of the show. My meat was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. Delicious and tender. The only mild negative was my server didn't seem to get beer. Asking for a non-IPA somehow meant "light" flavor. (I'm not a huge fan of overly hopped up brew, but love strong flavors.)"

  • "A group of 8 with a confirmed reservations for the wonderful Easter menu. The food was outstanding and the "team service" was good. However, our lead waitress REALLY didn't want to be there. We needed to ask for tableware, tea refills and when we asked her to open the wine we had brought, we were hotly reminded of the corkage fee. The waitress opened a pinot and a cabernet for us and then charged us for 3 corkage fees. The 20% service fee was charged for our party of 8 and was most certainly not earned. We will return for the great food and fun atmosphere, but will be wary of the service."

  • "We've been to The Liberty on several occasions with the most recent being for Easter brunch. The menu never disappoints with unique options and high quality ingredients. This place is fantastic for foodies. The salted caramel budino is the perfect dessert for any meal, and the burgers are the best in Charlotte. The drink selection at The Liberty is also fantastic, with a solid beer and wine selection and crafted liquor drinks. "

  • "My family loves The Liberty. There is a wide range of beer and food ranges from burger and salads to really nices entrees. I personally have gotten burges from here and they are awesome! They are HUGE and taste so good. Their seasoned truffle parmesan fries are the best."
