Diner Reviews
  • "We had a party of 7. Booking on open table was easy. Phone call to confirm the day before was much appreciated. Love the upstairs dining for groups and a quieter dinner setting. The downstairs bar can get a little noisy. Which is fine if you want that. I love that they have second floor dining. Service was excellent. The food was cooked perfectly. Our party had the sirloin- cooked perfectly and very tender, the salmon was also cooked perfectly and was delicious. We will be back."

  • "The brunch buffet is great. really good selection. The food is replaced every few minutes so nothing gets dried out or old."

  • "The Salmon was terrific. Either as and appetizer or main dish. Chef Matt clearly shows his skills with this dish."

  • "Sorry to say, our first experience here may be our last. The place didn't live up to our expectations after hearing a lot of good things about it and seeing its immense popularity. The worst deterrent to being able to enjoy the food, which was quite good, was the decibel level. Everyone in the room had to yell to be heard, making conversation almost impossible. My idea of an enjoyable meal out would be in quite a different environment -- one which is quieter and more intimate. It seems members of the generation that frequents restaurants like Liberty Tavern gravitate toward that sort of reverberant room that amplifies sounds and requires the noise level to continuously rise. Perhaps lunch here would be a better experience."

  • "That was the only issue; the food and service were great."

  • "We sat outside on a very pleasant summer day - so cannot comment on the noise level inside. Food was good but the cocktails were great. Overall a very enjoyable experience."

  • "This is a good place to go for late night drinks and food. Great selection in beers and very affordable/decent tasting food. Although.. I went there the other morning to try the brunch because I always see a ton of people there. The buffet upstairs wasn't bad but it definitely isn't the best brunch place I can think of in the area. The food was OK.. almost like your typical hotel style food. The surroundings were very pub like. I think outdoor seating may have made it more enjoyable."

  • "The Friday happy hour crowd downstairs was definitely energetic and boisterous, which made conversation challenging. The excellent list of wines by the glass definitely helped! The menu manages to provide a great variety without an overwhelming array of choices, and the food was perfectly cooked. The service was notable - attentive without being intrusive."

  • "While the noise level top option is a very kind, positive work choice is "energetic". It is NOT energetic. It is LOUD!!!! Difficult to have a conversation. If you can embrace the noise, the meal is excellent."

  • "I had high hopes for Liberty Tavern's brunch. A lot of the breakfast buffet items looked really good, but they were pretty uneven. The french toast had a great flavor, but the outside was so dry and crunchy from being reheated that it was inedible. While there were some highlights (fried chicken, sausage), items on the table were replaced slowly, so once you did find something good it was unlikely to be around for the rest of your meal. I did get refills of particular items if I asked a server about them (they'd bring me just one of the item, not replace it on the buffet), but overall I'd have to say that with the tight space for the buffet, the uneven quality of the food, and the problems refilling the food, it wasn't worth the price."

  • "We joined another couple and their baby for brunch. Two of us got a la carte menu items and really enjoyed those - burger and chicken sandwich. The other two got the brunch buffet, which was a great deal for the price. Lots of options, refilled quickly by the staff, we will be going back just for the brunch buffet. Service was a little slow and it was a bit crowded on the top floor near the buffet station, but otherwise very enjoyable!"

  • "The brunch was fantastic and our waiter Chad was great! Definitely go for the brunch buffet and get the man-mosas! Great time well worth the money."

  • "Delicious food and great atmosphere. My only complaint is that we couldn't sample bottles of wine (ones that aren't sold by the glass), which made us reluctant to splurge on a bottle and risk hating it. Regardless, I'd definitely go back."

  • "Excellent food in a casual setting. Crowded and lively bar scene. Appetizers out of this world!"

  • "We ordered appetizers and I saw them sitting in the window for 20+ minutes. When they brought then out they were cold and then our server came over to let us know our entrees were ready a minute later and asked if we wanted them now or wanted them to hold our food in the window. We figured we should have them now hot instead of being served two cold items."

  • "The food is always excellent at Liberty Tavern and now the fourth or fifth time going, it did not disappoint! I had dinner this time, and the portions were manageable but white filling. The gnocchi was excellent and I would absolutely order it again! It was a bit loud and hard to talk at some points, but a good sign that many others were choosing to go there too."

  • "The Sunday brunch was exceptional: a wide selection of beautifully presented food, all of which was delicious and pleasing to the vegetarian, the wheat/gluten intolerant, and the omnivore alike. And for $21.95 it is well worth the price. Special kudos to the waitstaff who a) were friendly b) kept the table cleaned of finished dishes and the beverages filled - and noticed that the ice tea was weak and immediately whisked it away for better-made refills, and c) overhearing that it was my birthday brought me -in addition to the buffet deserts- a candle-lit trio of delicious house-made ice creams. I only regret that I had but one stomach to give! We shall return both for the brunch buffet and to further explore the regular menu."

  • "We celebrated a belated Mother's and Father's Day brunch at Liberty Tavern this weekend. The brunch was great and had tons of really great options, even for folks with special diet needs. The service was okay, but not great...drinks remained un-filled for a while, dirty plates remained on table for a few minutes. Overall a good experience and very reasonable price for a lot of selection. We'll definitely be back for brunch again."

  • "If you like pork with your salad and even your fish (trout), have at it. We like LT but they need to lighten up the menu, especially for summer."

  • "Food was great. We started with a sampling of three types of cheese, each of which was outstanding. Then my wife had a salad, which was good if not memorable. I had a pizza, which was among the best I've ever had. The draft beer choices disappointed me, especially since I had come expecting to order one of the beers featured on the restaurant's online menu. But it turns out that beer is no longer available, and the waiter's suggested replacement wasn't particularly good. And similarly, the white wine my wife ordered wasn't as buttery/creamy as the waiter described it--which is too bad, since it was the most expensive by-the-glass wine offered. But my biggest complaint was the noise level. It's just too loud to have a conversation"

  • "Our first opportunity at The Liberty Tavern was a Sunday brunch buffet. We knew it was not a high-end brunch (e.g., the Four Seasons), but we heard it was very good and cost substantially less. The question was value for money. We could not have been happier. Although the selection of foods was not as broad,, what was there was very well prepared and delicious. The roast beef, pizza, pulled pork and salads and sides were excellent. If you need a raw bar you won't find it here. But you will find smoked salmon. We loved the signature cocktails (Mezcal Mule and Man-Mosa) The six desserts were well prepared -a nice ending to a great brunch. We will still pay more for more selection, but for more frequent brunching, Give me Liberty..."

  • "I have been to The Liberty Tavern on several occasions now. Each time the bar staff has been really friendly, drinks were great and happy hour offered some great deals. Have never had a bad meal. Braised pork belly, short ribs, crab stuffed trout all have been fantastic entrees. Will be back again on my next trip in!"

  • "Took our family of 6 (all adults) to 9:00 AM Sunday brunch. Grandma had the lobster roll, which she declared to be one of the best ever. Everyone else had the buffet, which is on the best brunch buffets in the city. As usual, the service was fantastic, and everyone loved it."

  • "This is a great Arlington find. The food was delicious and interesting, not your ordinary offerings. The food is prepared with care, everything was perfect, nothing over cooked. The use of different ingredients that you would not typically pair is wonderful. Service was superb."

  • "We came here on a Friday evening right after happy hour and the start of the club scene. It was busy and I recommend making reservations if you are here for dinner. Regardless, this place is excellent! It has a great wine list and an excellent selection of craft and domestic beers. The food choices were excellent and the service was outstanding! We sat outside, which I am not sure was the best choice. We sat right next to the street and Friday rush hour was in full swing. People honking at each other does not make a great ambiance. The inside was spacious and had a lot of seating, which was filling up quickly! Otherwise, it is a great place to be if you are here for business or a long weekend in D.C."

  • "Cheeses were tasty. Main course of sirloin was outstanding. Short ribs excellent but short..on quantity..5 oz not really enough for a hungry guy unless you load up on bread.. Would try the pizza next time . They looked delicious. "

  • "Combine a first rate Brunch menu, (the sage sausage is of particular note),with attentive service, the sights and sounds of a Sunday morning on the sidewalks of Clarendon and a superior Bloody Mary and you have a flawless setting for meeting with friends over brunch. That was our experience at the Liberty Tavern just the other day. They were most accommodating with the placement and management of our friends newborn along side our outside table, (when did babies start requiring the logistics of an expedition up the Zambezi River?). And all four of the adults at this table hold varying levels of conceit to being "foodies". Go to Liberty Tavern, eat and drink your way to your own opinionB, I trust it will mirror mine."

  • "Manager (Ari) was particularly awesome when he called me later that night to tell me that I had signed the wrong check! So rare that someone would go out of his way to track down a customer after they had left the restaurant and fix the problem. I really really appreciate it. Other than the bill mix-up, service was outstanding. Thank you Ari, thank you Liberty Tavern."

  • "More than a bar scene which seemed vibrant but not to our taste, the food in the restaurant upstairs is well worth the climb. Ask to use to elevator in back if stairs trouble you. The menu varied from tried and true steak, burgers, pizzas to more adventurous fish dishes like the excellent andouille/blue crab stuffed trout and the very tender grilled octopus which we had. For dessert, we loved the creme brulee, even though the caramel corn garnish seemed out of place on such an elegant dish. The homemade ice creams were also superb. The choices, presentation, preparation and taste of the food impressed everyone in our party. "

  • "We took my parents here for dinner and enjoyed everything! Each of our meals was excellent (and I love that they offer half portions for the pasta) and well portioned. We tried a 3-cheese appetizer and were pleasantly surprised with two fruit puree palette cleansers (also good with the cheese), a stack of pistachio/craisin bread and a beer sample our waiter suggested with one of the cheeses. We tried three of the housemade ice creams for dessert and were not disappointed. This is definitely a great place to check out if you're in Clarendon!"
