  • "We really enjoyed our evening at the Lake House. We thought our meals were excellent our, but the menu may not appeal to non-adventurous eaters. The service was very good and the ambiance was lovely. We were there on a cold miserable evening, so the fire was great, however, it would be beautiful on a summer night overlooking the lake."

  • "After eating at CRMR's outstanding restaurants for several successive nights for our 25th Anniversary, we chose The Lake House for our 26th. CRMR does it again, we couldn't have been more pleased with our experience. Our waiter, the chef, and the rest of the staff made our night delectable and memorable. We can't wait to try your brunch. Our waiter was very kindly attentive and showed us the menu to tempt us back. We're tempted!"

  • "I had the best fish I have ever had and the desert was fantastic. I really like the view of the lake and found all the staff to be really pleasant Our waitress had too many tables and it was a little difficult getting her attention but she was very sweet. We had a wonderful night and I would recommend this restuaunt to anyone."

  • "We had a later reservation on Saturday night and our table was ready upon arrival. We started with two Crantini's perfectly made. No appetizers but our main course was Grilled Angus Ribeye and Grilled Bison Tenderloin. Both were cooked to perfection (medium) and much enjoyed. We also ordered a seasonal vegetable, which were not good, although we were told what it was I could not identify the food. We each had a glass of the malbec with dinner which wasn't a good choice for us. It was a very very heavy malbec and not to our liking. We closed with ice cream and sorbet - how can you go wrong. It was a lovely evening with good food (except the veggies), and we look forward to returning."

  • "My wife and I were excited to check out the new location for the old Ranche restaurant. The service, ambience and food were very good to excellent. I had the wild boar and I highly recommend it to everyone. My wife had the buffalo but she preferred my meal to hers. We'll go back soon."

  • "Great night on the lake. Our waiter was fantastic. She'd been with the company 10 years and was all round fantastic. Food was perfect and pace of delivery was right on schedule. Only downside was the noise from a private function extending into the main restaurant area. Still, the over all experience was up there with the best. Good job!"

  • "My guest & I were @ The Lake House for brunch. It was very busy - service was efficient & timely in spite of the number of people! Eggs Benedict (Lake House version) was delicious. Only concern is that we hoped that "regular" bacon would have been available vs. Bison Bacon. We don't eat wild meat! Our server, Patty, was amazing & prepared one of the best Latte's I've ever had. The ambience is beautiful -- renovaations are A+++++++."

  • "The view was spectacular and the food was good. My scallops were grainy but tasty. However, I could not enjoy them because I knew I would be crunching on a grain of sand. The restaurant was so noisy that I could only speak to the person directly next to me and missed out on conversation with the rest of my party. The service was good, but the server was very busy. The restaurant charged for tap water and called it filtered and didn't inform the customer. - add sound absorbers to the room (drapes, table cloths, or special wall hangings) - be sure the food is done to perfection - do not charge for water - it is not the cost but the principle"

  • "This is my new favourite restaurant!! Food was amazing... everyone (there were 7 of us) finished everything on their plate. It was a wee bit loud and it was hard to have a conversation within our group... but if you were just 2 or 4 it would be just fine!"

  • "Great to find an excellent restaurant in Calgary's southwest suburbia. Lively atmosphere with a nice view of the lake. Menu is excellent. We had the bison and caribou, both exceptionally prepared. Came to the table hot and nicely spaced between courses. We'd definitely go back. Can't wait until the patio is open this summer."

  • "The venue is spectacular - beautiful lake view. We know why at lunch there were mostly women there and a few retired couples - it took almost 3 hours for a 3 course lunch. The three of us were visiting so didn't mind the wait between courses but you would need to plan for that amount of time. I gave the food 3 stars - the jerk chicken was fatty, chorizo overwhelmed the mussels in that dish and the trout special was excellent - your food experience would depend on what you ordered. Sounds picky but they need to buy some mussel forks to get at the mussels - their best offer was a salad fork. Another reviewer mentioned hard wooden chairs, but they do have some upholstered ones that I think you could ask to use. I might revisit."

  • "Loved the Ranche location the best (at Fish Creek Park). The dark interior is not as 'warm and cozy' as the old location. Food was still good..just not the ambiance of the Ranche."

  • "So glad that The Lake House has arrived in Lake Bonavista. Food and service are at the usual high standards exhibited at CRMR establishments. They have done an excellent job at renovating this location to take full advantage of the beautiful lake view. Lovely place to go for a meal. Late night menu on the weekends is a great idea as well. We've already taken advantage of it!"

  • "This is a location screaming out for a restaurant with staying power and I had hoped that The Lake House would be the one given it's history as The Ranche. The current menu is lacking in selection and needs some tweaking to be more generally appealing - thank goodness there was a quiche as a special for lunch. Yes, there are some quality items on the menu for all offerings during the day, but could still have one or two more. A little pricey but one can justify for the view."

  • "We may be partial because we are excited that this restaurant is in our neighbourhood, however we were taken by surprise by how gorgeous the place is. We noted right off the bat how friendly and prompt the service is. The restaurant is beautiful on the inside. We were seated at a window overlooking the lake and near the fireplace. The server was engaging and knowledgeable, and the menu is interesting and certainly "rocky mountain inspired" like the website touts. Everything we tasted (charcuterie board, boar shoulder, caribou, huckleberry Creme broulee) were delicious. We definitely recommend if you want fine dining, great atmosphere, and fabulous tastes. Overall perfect date night."

  • "We had a fantastic meal at the Lake House - every dish was spectacular and the service and ambience were top notch as well. We cook and eat out often - and haven't have only had one other experience like that in calgary in the last two years. Great experience all around - give it a try."

  • "Wanted to see what the new owners had done here as it was a favorite location of ours some 20 years ago. It was all beyond our expectations, congrats to all and we will return."

  • "The Lake House is both a wonderful experience and fantastic place to eat. We like the "open kitchen" design, which allows visitors to say a quick hi or have a peek at what's happening. There's no doubt about it, we miss the previous location of the old Ranche house, but the staff and menu at the Lake House are pleasingly familiar."

  • "The food and service were very good. We had a table in the middle of the restaurant and we found we had to speak loudly to hear each other. Other than the loudness we enjoyed ourselves very much."

  • "Enjoyable evening at "The Lake House," with three friends on evening of March 27th. The meal was everything we expected of the former Ranche group, with the added bonus of the view of Lake Bonavista. We all had different mains including scallops, bison tenderloin, rib eye, and risotto. The mains were all artfully presented and delicious. Although I did not have dessert, two members of our party enjoyed the crème brulee and pot de crème respectively. The desserts were presented beautifully and I was assured that they were delicious. The appetizers we sampled included the green salad with pears and goat cheese, the beet plate and the mussels - all delicious. Conscientious and unobtrusive service added to a first-rate evening."

  • "My husband and I went to the Lakehouse for a special dinner. The food was unique and exceptional. Everything was beautifully prepared and presented, and the flavours were vibrant and decadent. We enjoyed every bite from appetizer to dessert. The service was perfect, and we were given our choice of table. We really loved the ambience and rustic-chic Canadian decor. We will definately return and have recommended the restaurant to friends."

  • "Your restaurant was lovely but your chairs are way too hard to sit on. We had to ask to switch them for the more comfortable chairs that were only located at a few tables. We were only able to do this because it was a Wednesday evening and not to busy. Chair pads would be a great investment ."

  • "We all shared a charcuterie plate, which was delectable. The bison I ordered was cooked to perfection and the small alterations to the menu I asked for were done as requested. Everyone at the table raved about their food, but no one coveted another's plate because any choice was excellent. The blue cheese croquettes though will be my new kryptonite. The ambiance is cozy rustic elegance and the view at sunset on the lake is gorgeous. I would recommend this to anyone who would like to eat out at a quiet romantic restaurant."

  • "We've been going to "The Ranche" since it opened in 1999 and were quite disappointed it was closing. Then we found out the restaurant was just moving to Lake Bonavista and wanted to give it a try. The new location is very nice, although not as special as the historic Bow Valley Ranche House in Fish Creek Prov Park. What is just as good, if not better is the food and the service. Our small group had an exceptional meal with everyone impressed. What also stood out was the service and the friendliness of the staff. Our waitress was particular good, she was very professional, knowledgeable and attentive. All-in-all an outstanding dining experience, this new (old) restaurant just became our new favorite. Highly recommend."

  • "I was disappointed with the selection on the lunch menu. The main that I ordered was a risotto dish. It was a $17 bowl of rice, with a few artichokes, a few pieces of spinach, and cheese. It may have been a nice side dish with a piece of fish, and complimented with a side salad."

  • "Enjoyed every aspect of our dining experience at The Lake House. Mom and three daughters who are all foodies would go back in a heartbeat. Recommend the wild boar, risotto and mussels."

  • "Took a friend for lunch there and while it wasn't very busy, we waited an hour for our lunch to come out and that was only after I asked someone to check on our food. It's a good thing that we weren't in a hurry. Food was quite good. While I might go back, it would only be if I didn't have anywhere to be in the afternoon."

  • "Still one of the best dining experiences one could wish for!!"

  • "Highly over priced. Our server the only positive thing about our lunch. Restaurant should block the view of the kitchen--we were treated to a view of a kitchen worker with a substantial ponytail--(not covered) handling food--not appetizing to say the least. Noise level unacceptable. Won't return."

  • "A foursome of adults went by for Sunday brunch to check out the new place. Very nice place with an outstanding view of the lake. The food was quite good but a rather limited menu we thought. Also there wasn't a brunch drink list which seemed odd to us.... we ordered 2 mimosas and 2 sangrias and the bar agreed to make them. Neither were spectacular and for the price they should've been. The biggest issue was the noise! It is a kid friendly place but 2 kids banging their dishware forced the whole restaurant to yell which certainly takes the shine off a nice adult brunch. Hopefully, if we go again, we can sit outside where the noise will be less."

  • "The newly renovated Lake House in Lake Bonavista has a lovely atmosphere. I can only imagine how wonderful it will be in the summer, as all of the windows in the restaurant can open, so if the patio is full, you won't feel shut in. The brunch menu was incredible. We shared the quiche of the day (bacon, asparagus, broccoli & tomato) which came with a side salad, and we also split the chocolate cream cheese stuffed French toast with a berry compote, which came with syrup and I believe it was a cinnamon whipped cream. Scrumptious, all of it! Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable. I would definitely return to the Lake House, perhaps for dinner next time."
