  • "Had dinner at The Lake House a few times now and, as always, this last visit was great. Food, Service, everything is done right here. Can't wait to go back. It can get a bit noisy but the view of Lake Bonavista is beautiful and if you like it more quiet go for lunch."

  • "I had high expectations for The Lake House as I was a big fan of The Ranche Restaurant. Unfortunately a lot of things seemed to have gotten lost on the way to the new location. The interior of the new location is dark and rustic and it may work better in the winter when the lake is frozen but it doesn't feel right on a warm summer evening. And the restaurant is really, really noisy. The night we were there it wasn't full and it was very difficult to hear the two other people at my table. We shared the charcuterie board and it was superb but my pan seared scallops were disappointing. The scallops were cooked nicely and boar sausage was tasty but something in the sauce was overpowering and harsh tasting. Service was great."

  • "Met for brunch with my older grandparents and parents. The large open concept and loud noises from a party made it difficult for them to hear the conversation. The selection of brunch items wasn't very good and didnt really appeal to us. I had the smoked salmon Benedict and I hate to say but I've had better at other breakfast chains. The service was poor. Our waitress had to be flagged down whenever we needed a coffee or water refill and wasnt very attentive. I would suggest dining on the veranda, however they only have tables of 2."

  • "We had an important occasion where my parents and my fiances parents were meeting of the first time. We needed somewhere quiet because my fathers hearing ability was a concern. I had been to this location ages ago when it was another resturaunt and remembered it being very nice. The renovations done were excellent, the resturaunt was quiet, but not too quiet with a beautiful view of the lake. Perfect for a special occasion. The food was outstanding, many of us ordered the Boar. You must try the Boar! Although everything was perfect, our server was efficient, helpful, and polite and orchestrated our dinner very well...I don't usually write reviews on these things but they made a night I was very nervous about, beautiful. Thanks"

  • "I think I've pretty much seen all of the menu now and there are 2 good selections, the Angus and the wild boar. They could do with a little freshening up on the menu, some lamb possibly or a variety of fish choices, just to keep it interesting."

  • "This restaurant has it all - a gorgeous view of Lake Bonavista, a charmingly decorated dining room, interesting cocktail menu and delicious food offerings. Try the bison or duck breast. You will be impressed! I can highly recommend the sticky toffee pudding for your sweet tooth..."

  • "The Lake House is right on Lake Bonavista so the views are spectacular. As the ceiling is open, it was hard to converse with my dinner partner as the noise level from the other guests talking was quite high. If you have hearing difficulties, this might not be the best restaurant for you. The food was a good size portion and the service was good albeit I did not receive a bun with my soup so perhaps it is not provided unless you ask. Overall, a great place to eat and we will eat there again. There are only a few tables outside on the balcony so arrive by 5:00 so you want one."

  • "The restaurant, food and service is amazing. We'll for sure be back again. Just don't make a reservation when a function is taking place in the main dining room. It is overwhelming and your dinner will be interrupted by noise. Awesome job thank you Lakehouse"

  • "My vegan daughter was graciously accommodated & the waitress informed us that next time to call ahead & the chef can prepare something extra special. The service, staff & interior are all first class, but the designer should be shot. Zero acoustical consideration= game night at a noisy pub, NOT $30+/entrée dining experience! Conversation was a strain! The good: crab cakes were lively & delicious, as was the roasted wild boar. The bad: goat cheese & pear salad was beyond boring. The scallops need revisiting (hollandaise lacked flavor & needs some extra kick to offset the neutral scallops & bland potato, broccolini was almost raw). The wild boar sausage was unique, bold & tasty. Worth a revisit for desert & cocktails on the patio @ sunset!"

  • "We went here for Fathers Day brunch. The food and service were great, but the music was WAY too loud. Would definitely recommend this place."

  • "We reserved VERY last minute for Father's Day....within ten minutes of arriving! Our family lucked out and got a table right by the front windows. We watched falcons catching fish right out of the lake. Our server was friendly and efficient. We had some cappuccinos and hot chocolates (my son says they are the best hot chocolates) and also the regular coffee. All were very delicious. We ordered the beignets as a pre breakfast snack and they were quite delicious, at least I think they were as they disappeared really quickly. My son was really happy with his Bison brisket as were we with our Eggs Benedict; both the classic style and smoked salmon style. The hollandaise was probably the best I've had. I can't wait to go back!"

  • "This is an absolutely beautiful restaurant right on the lake. Stunning view, amazing food and excellent service. I went there for the first time this past weekend for my birthday dinner and it was just perfect!! Will definitely go back. Has a really cool almost upscale lodge feel inside. Would be amazing for a wedding reception."

  • "A very dear friend and I made an evening reservation here. We were both totally blown away by the food!!! The Caribou and Ribeye steak were both TO DIE FOR!! ....and the Flourless Chocolate Cake was SIMPLY HEAVENLY!! The service from the staff was faultless, we were SO well looked after!!.... and it was just so totally refreshing to not be rushed through our courses AT ALL!!! The whole dining experience was completely relaxed. My friend and I both remarked on how people at EVERY table were actually talking to EACH OTHER!!..... and laughing!!....not one mobile phone in sight!! This is what "proper" dining should be all about, and in THE most beautiful of settings, too!!!! Thank you all SO much for an absolutely unforgettable evening!!!"

  • "We loved dining at the Ranche and feel as though the lake house is just as wonderful. Service is always exceptional and food is flavourful and cooked to perfection!"

  • "I have been there three tis and obviously enjoy it or would not come back. Food needs a little more subtle spice (Orzo and mussles) but good service and just a happy place to be."

  • "The Ranche was a favourite of ours for a long time because of the special location and great food. In recent years the food had become less than great - Still good, but not amazing, especially considering the price. We decided to try them at the new location. They have traded a beautiful building for a beautiful view and will likely still suffer from not being in a high traffic area. The service was excellent. The menu is new, but the food leaves the same impression as at the previous location - Appealing description, well prepared and beautifully plated, but lacking the punch of flavour to make it exciting. In contrast, we also visited the Ranche under its new management. Dinner discussion was dominated by chat about the great food!"

  • "Dinner at the Lake House a few months ago with four friends was fantastic. However, when I returned this week for lunch with a friend, we regretted our menu choices. I tried the muscles (my favourite food): the sauce seemed to be an effort to add some spice and in my view it failed. The so-called chorizo sausage looked and tasted like over-fried lumps of hamburger meat. My friend had the crab cakes, she liked them and said they were tasty. Then I ordered the Daily Special - quiche - it was practically flavourless and the pastry was thick and hard. My friend had the jerky chicken and eat about three bites before giving up. We both regretted not ordering the Halibut. "

  • "Everyone enjoyed their entre very much. Alcohol service a little slow....would have liked opportunity to order drinks soon after being seated. View of lake is quite nice but there is a certain lack of ambience that would make me hesitate to recommend this as a destination restaurant for people out of the community. Restaurant is quite noisy"

  • "As occasional visitors to the old Ranch (2x a year) my wife and I were never disappointed with the experience. The service was always the best and the food 10 out of 10. Last Sunday my wife and I were joined by my son and his girlfriend at the new Ranch. Cocktails arrived but then quite a lengthy wait for the main courses. All the meals looked excellent - duck, scallops, halibut and caribou. Then disappointment - my duck was barely warm and the side of green beans was room temp and my wife's scallops were just warm. Desserts got rave reviews, however the whole meal did not have a flow to it. Perhaps Game 7 of the Kings/Blackhawks series being on had something to do with the somewhat disjointed service. Old Ranch 10/10 - new Ranch 7/10"

  • "The Lake House is becoming one of my favorite Sunday brunch spots. Reservations are accepted, the coffee is bountiful and the food is fresh. Top it off with a great view and warm environment and I'm sold. There are often lots of families with children, but I have never had an issue with noise. Also, the beignets are an amazing pre-brunch dessert. "

  • "My wife and I had a very enjoyable meal at The Lake House. The food and service were both excellent (we both had the halibut). It was nice sitting by the window so we were able to enjoy the view of the lake. Our server was attentive but not over bearing plus personable and knowledgeable."

  • "The staff was awesome, including the smiley hostess, friendly server and helpful serving assistant. The view was outstanding especially once the sun set and you could see houses on the lake enjoying backyard campfires. It made us feel like we were away from the city enjoying a beautiful lake cabin. As usual the food was absolutely delicious, and we will be back again and again. "

  • "The room has a gorgeous view of the lake. Food was very good. Started with the smoked fish plate, which was excellent. Kids had mussels and crab cakes which they both enjoyed. The mains were all very good too. We arrived early for our reservation and were seated so we could have a drink first. We were never rushed. Service was excellent."
