Diner Reviews
  • "Recently moved to the area and went here on a recommendation. Good food, friendly staff, welcoming atmosphere with a bit of a vibe but not too noisy. Easy walking distance for us, which could make it a favorite. Only downside was the expensive drinks - why or why do restaurants make wine sooooo expensive? We could buy a whole bottle of decent wine for less than a glass of the cheapest Merlot or Sauvignon Blanc. Next time we will have an aperitif at home beforehand and limit ourselves to one drink each with our meal."

  • "I reserved a table at the knick for a romantic dinner with my boyfriend when we arrived the kitchen had a fire and told us that it was closed. We took a cab over to the restaurant and neither open table or the knick had the courtesy to let us know ahead of time or even offer a coupon for a future visit. We had to walk in the cold two blocks to find another place to dine and change our entire evening. It was very frustrating because it could have been avoided if either the knick or open table gave notice."

  • "We've always liked the fish fry at the Knick. The beer-battered cod is the best choice. They had a perch special that didn't do much for me. Cocktails were well-made and generous. I can't recommend the Brandy Alexander unless you like them without brandy."

  • "The service was terrible. Our server Anna 881 was awful. It took her about 30 mins to get us straws to drink our bloody Mary's . She also added gratuity to our larger party which I understand. So we gave her 4 cards to split evenly and on top of that she added another gratuity to it. Basically getting a 40 percent tip. It was also disappointing that everything we ordered could not be made. We also waited a very long time for our food. It was sad that a special event like a family birthday party was ruined by the terrible rude server we had."

  • "The Knick is always a great place to go an unwind, enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner or to just hang-out. We were there for breakfast and the service was very good, food was great (even though they had a fire in the kitchen that morning). We had our usual good time in a Milwaukee special venue! Yum."

  • "My 20 something son and I love to go to the Knick for brunch on Sundays and catch up on life. We enjoy the variety of brunch offerings and usually try the special French toast fish of the day or try the quiche. My favorite regular dishes are the Mediterranean breakfast or the breakfast pasta. My one request is that they serve better coffee, it is always too strong and bitter and usually contains grounds in the bottom of the cup. It would be perfect if they served coffee from one of our awesome local roasters and brewed it correctly. Nice place, we are regulars."

  • "The food was good, but we wished they had 1) soy or almond milk for coffee and were disappointed that 2) the jam was smuckers in foil packs. These two things seem surprising for an upscale restaurant of today!"

  • "Found this gem via Open Table. Looking for a restaurant in Milwaukee with quality food and a reasonable price point. Had a great experience at The Knick. It's just nice enough that parents with rowdy kids won't want to waste the good food and money on them. Highly recommend the Prosciutto Pizza from the appetizer menu. Note: It's more than enough for four people to share. We all four loved our entrees. Lamb Shanks, Teriyaki Flank Steaks, Mixed Chicken and Steak Skewers, and Beef Ravioli. There was almost no sharing going on. And dessert was totally yummy, Bread pudding, Creme brûlée, and Chocolate mousse cake."

  • "I was super excited to visit but the food didn't live up to my expectations. I have to say that the manager recognized that the food was sent, eggs were over cooked. He charged us nothing for the meal after sending us a replacement plates. The honest truth, I don't want free food from a place that I know the food used to be really good. I want a food lives up to the restaurant previous quality. I know changing chefs is inevitable, but management should make sure that the replacement chefs lives up to the quality the previous chef provided or better."

  • "I appreciate any restaurant that offers price selections ranging from sandwiches to steaks, but in a town full of places that boast the best burger, and a community inundated by over-sized portions, I feel a medium-sized burger for $10-$15 then falls on the high-end of the price spectrum. Not that it wasn't good; the gorgonzola-stuffed burger I had was fine. I ordered a salad, so perhaps it's my fault for not getting a more filling side, but I was still hungry after finishing it, a rare occurrence here in the land of supper-clubs. Luckily the friend I was with allowed me to sample some of her waffle fries, which were quite good. I ordered a dangerously delicious Chestnut Manhattan, though its price ($10) not taste is why I skipped a 2nd."

  • "my girlfriend and I had never heard of this restaurant before but we found it online and agreed we could find something on the menu. I planned on spending upwards of $50 for the two of us, but only ended up spending $35, and left very full and happy with our dinner. The is a good chance I will go back."

  • "Knick has an awesome selection of delicious salads if you are looking to eat out and still stay low on calories. my friend and i both did the veggie chopped salad which was just a salad packed with all kinds of veggies and added blackened scallops to make it delicious and have some protein. highly recommend."

  • "We decided to reserve a table before a downtown concert. We allowed more time than necessary due to the great service we received which allowed plenty of time to order dessert. We arrived at the concert long before the curtain rose. What a great way to spend a relaxing evening in Milwaukee."

  • "Love the Knick! Went here for brunch Saturday AND Sunday! Oddly, Saturday was better, the breakfast potatoes seemed fresher. But they were still yummy on Sunday, just not as good."

  • "This was my first time going and it definitely won't be my last. The restaurant is beautiful inside, service was great, and the food was affordable and very delicious!!! They sat us at a nice, comfortable booth. It made my snowy birthday brunch so special."

  • "Really enjoyed dinner at The Knick. First time dining there, and won't be the last. Moderately priced menu ($10 +), with happy hour specials, and something for everyone (from an avocado burger to tofu steak). Dimly lit, comfortable seating, cool decor, and practically on the lake. Great place to go with friends, or someone special."

  • "Good salmon salad, fish tacos, 2 specialty salads, Caesar, coffee, sodas. One person had steak and liked it, but not the butter laden green beans. He should have mentioned beforehand. Service very good, and food temperatures were good."

  • "This was my first time at The Knick and I can say I will definitely be back! The specials sounded wonderful and unique. I had the steak special and it tasted as good as it looked! LOVELOVELOVE! - For a total foodie this place is heaven!"

  • "Although the food and service was great, there were a few issues. The soda was flat. We asked our waiter to check on this, and he checked with his manager. More sodas were brought to our table, and they were still flat. We ordered red velvet cake for dessert, which was a huge portion and shared by five. However, the cake was very dry."

  • "The food was great and the decor modern and energetic. The valet was not expensive and was great to use on a cold winter day. We were disappointed in a few things. We had a reservation and the table they reserved for us was near the door on a cold day. Second they charged us for a cake cutting fee of 10.00 for only four people which I think is excessive. We were there for my son's birthday and they don't provide free dessert for the birthday boy but charge you cake cutting if you bring one in. I still rate it 4 stars because the brunch was very good."

  • "Very nice restaurant. Great service, decent menu choices, extremely reasonable prices, and huge portions. Several specialty burgers, excellent lamb shank, and the kabob was very moist with lots of grilled flavor. Little dark for reading menus, but ambience is perfect for a special occasion dinner. Also wished The Knick had valet parking, as finding a parking spot in the neighborhood can be a real challenge. Overall, would definitely recommend!"

  • "Six of us went for brunch and found such a varied selection of choices, it was hard to decide. Everyone really enjoyed their meals, our waitress was attentive without being a nuisance, and the atmosphere was contemporary and comfortable with a hip edge. The portions were all very generous — I only had room for half of the incredible Breakfast Pasta. And when the bill arrived, I was pleasantly surprised how reasonable it was! I would highly recommend The Knick. I have been there in the past for dinner with the same pleasant experience."
