It took a long time to get drinks and to place our order. Then the power started going off and on in the dining room. We were lucky enough to be by a window so it wasn't an issue for us. Two of us ordered salads and neither had dressing on them. Colleague had asked for no tomatoes or onions on his burger. Both were prominently in place. Staff was not confident or attentive.

My wife and I dined there recently with a relative who was visiting Dallas, with our main objectives to have a satisfying meal while enjoying a calm locale to enable conversation. The Kitchen Table met these goals with aplomb. The Deep Ellum tomato/mozzarella appetizer was a perfect starter for us, and all three enjoyed our entrees as well. Service was attentive and gracious, and the wine list was plenteous.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Reservations Didn't Matter...OpenTable Diner Since 2007Dined on 9/18/2014We made a reservation through open table but because there was a conference going on at the hotel, we were told we would still have to wait and were asked to go to the back of the line. I ordered a tuna "sandwich" from the menu and was told it was open faced, which was fine. It was actually lettuce with what seemed like dry canned tuna on top with a few olives and no dressing. Definitely not my idea of a sandwich.

We were told to wait while they got the table ready when we arrived, even though all the tables were set. Our waiter was friendly and brought our menus and took our orders. We asked questions about some of the entrees and were told it was a new menu and the waitress did not know the answers. An hour later we received our food. None of the dishes ordered met expectations. The barbequed salmon arugula salad did not have barbequed salmon, but had smoked salmon. The tuna open sandwich was tuna on bread with a side.

The Mahi-Mahi I had was cooked to perfection and my wife's "create your own salad" entree was a great idea. Excellent selections for creating one's own salad and everything was fresh. Good wine list. Our server was delightful, professional and attentive, prices are reasonable and the restaurant is open with lots of natural light. The apple turnover/pockets were delicious. I got the buffet, which was around $25, and the food was mediocre at best. The selection was quite limited for that price point; in addition, the eggs and potatoes were both rubbery, and the bananas were over-ripe. I ended up eating (very costly) yogurt and fruit. The wait staff, although friendly, only came to our table once to check on our coffee/tea and to check our water glasses. It also took over 20 minutes to get our checks, and then for them to come back with our change/credit card receipts. The ambience of the restaurant itself was nice, though.

My hubby stated his steak was one of the best steaks he had ever had! The chilled zucchini and grilled chicken stack was AWESOME! The only complaints are that my mashed potatoes were cold in the middle and our entrees came out a few mins after our appetizers, and had we known, we would have skipped the appetizer altogether. Forget about ordering dessert. We ordered a smores brownie. It was a frozen brownie with chocolate drizzled on it. Not as described on the menu...warm and served in a jar. The food is what you would expect from a hotel restaurant.

Some food items were excellent however 5 of 5 hamburgers on the pretzel roll were identically cooked even though there were specific doneness requests. I had the flank steak which was sparsely served on an overwhelming baguet and the flank steak was over done. Too bad that cut of meat can be a real crowd pleaser if done right. We make it all the time. Service time out of the kitchen was in the thirty minute range which was not good when you are on a schedule and don't want to choke your food down in five minutes or walk away altogether. It would be great to see the Kitchen well supervised
