A word from The Kitchen Consigliere
Come enjoy old Italian-style dishes, known today as Italian comfort food, at The Kitchen Consigliere as executive chef Angelo Lutz preserves the heritage of real, authentic homestyle cooking. His spot is an informal BYOB Italian eatery with an emphasis on the peasant dishes found in traditional homestyle Italian cooking. Influenced by the dishes he ate as a youngster, Angelo's cooking style stems from teaching and recipes taught by his mother and grandmother. The atmosphere is informal and the food and menus change often, allowing The Kitchen Consigliere to be a cozy, quaint and not over-the-top eatery for the entire family. And good food isn't the only reason to eat at the café. The real adventure is meeting with the real kitchen consigliere; you will come for the food but stick around for the conversation.Continued

  • "first time we have been that it was noisey...but everything else was excellent especially service as usual...My advice is just avoid sunday afternoons if your bothered by higher level of noise due to numerous parties..."

  • "We have eaten in numerous nice Italian restaurants, but The Kitchen was by far one of our best experiences. Our waiter was informative, friendly and professional. The food was without fault! Such good gravy! My friend said they were the best veal chops she has ever eaten. We will be back."

  • "First time there, we had the best server he was adorable. Great food! Loved the Mob like decor! Great new find!"

  • "We thought this restaurant would be a "gravy" house and were pleasantly surprised by very well prepared food that was beyond the quality and tastes of most Italian restaurants. The portions could be reduced as they are very large, so expect to take some food home."

  • "We were there last Sunday and food and service was superb as usual! Just made a reservation for Easter! We have to split our group into a 2 and 4 table but we wanted to do something different for Easter this year and Kitchen Consigliere is fantastic! Love it!"

  • "This is my 3rd time here and it has been consistently good. Not a bad thing about this place. Service and food are definitely worth the trip."

  • "Comfortable eating, reasonably priced for very good food. Cute concept for decor with ""Mafiosa" flare!"

  • "Just like every other visit, I was wowed by the amazing food!!! There is always a yummy find on the menu, but I always try something from the daily specials. We split the Crab Cakes and Veggie Lasagna and both were to die for!!!! Then at the end of the meal we split 2 amazing homemade desserts, a slice of almond cake and tiramisu. Both were amazing and are making my mouth water just thinking about them!!!!!"

  • "We love this place and go often. The food is always good, I especially love anything with the marinara sauce. My husband often tries a special and tonight enjoyed the pork tenderloin. We sat at a table in the window and had a great view of the street. One thing I love here is that you are never rushed and can really relax and enjoy a home cooked meal."

  • "First timer to kitchen Consigliere and I loved it! The food was delicious with large portions. Plenty of options on the menu for all tastes and the decor is a real treat! Will definitely be back with my friends!"

  • "The place was packed... the food was good... but the service, which was OK... is not as personable as the old place. The food is as good but I miss the more intimate atmosphere of the old place. Sorry... just being honest. I would still recommend it though."

  • "The food was very good and the mafia twist very entertaining. Amazing mussels and gnocchi. A little disappointed in the crab cake, not lump meat. Will definitely return to try some other dishes."

  • "I was pleasantly surprised at how good this food was, especially considering that southern italian dishes often lack sophistication. Creative spins on classics--the sausage meatball gemelli with rate and long hots was a stand-out, as was the special lasagna the night we were there. Will definitely go back!"

  • "Glorified mafia style Mediocre red sauce spaghetti and big piled up plates with no authentic Italian taste! Terrible salad!"

  • "Ya gotta check this one out! They did a super job here, and the food's always been top-notch."

  • "Always an excellent meal!!!! Chicken Parm was moist on the inside and crispy on the outside with a great marina gray...excellent!"

  • "This was our first time dining at the Kitchen and we loved it. We usually go for more ethnic types of food than Italian, but the dishes were interesting and delicious. We started witht he Rice Ball and it was probably my favorite thing we had! I had Shrimp and Tortellini with sun dried tomatoes in a white wine cream sauce that was delicious. My fiance had the better meal though, the sausage meatballs! Served with gemmelli pasta, Italian Long hots and broccoli rabe. I have entree envy! It was superb. AND we had more than enough to bring home for a second meal."

  • "Food was amazing and staff was fantastic. Love that the chef takes the time to greet guests at the table. My wife and I loved the Mafia inspired decor. Not to mention playing 2 of favorite movies Casino and Analyze This on tvs on the wall."

  • "Being an Italian from South Philly, I felt I was right at home. The food was prepared like my mother's cooking. I enjoyed talking to Angelo who also was very accommodating."

  • "Nice to have a local restaurant with a trendy vibe and excellent food. A nice change from all the traditional Italian eateries. The service was perfect. Try the artichoke appetizer! I want to go back to try many more items and want to recommend to everyone in SJ!"

  • "We had a fantastic experience at Kitchen Consigliere and can't wait to go again! It was both fun and delicious. Our waiter was wonderful and friendly. The owner chatted with us not once, but twice and made us feel special."

  • "This restaurant never dissapoints. We go there approximately once a month and its like visiting with old friends. The staff (Harry) and Angelo and all the servers are friendly and fun. They also are knowledgable. the food is fantastic and consistent. Portions are large too. Def have to include a rice ball and an antipasto (that serves at least 4). Its one of our favorites and great for a special occasion as well....:)"

  • "Food was very good. Atmosphere was very loud, and tables are so close together you could hold hands with your neighbor. But they made the best gnocchi I have ever had, and I will be back for that!!"

  • "The portions are very generous. The staff is very friendly and some are like having dinner with "old family". If you are of Italian decent, the food will remind you of days gone by, especially Sunday Sauce. Whatever you order, you need to plan on taking some home. Two reasons - generous portions, and the homemade desserts can't be missed. You might cringe at $9 for a piece of cake, but it easily satisfies two (but rarely will anyone share once they have one taste). Make an agreement before-hand to order two different ones and share both-and be watchful the other doesn't sneak a few extra bites."

  • "I heard many great things about Kitchen Consigliere, so I decided to celebrate my friend's birthday there. It was better than I expected. Our waitress/hostess, Giovanna, made our meal. Her energy was so contagious. She went out of her way to make my friend's day so special and treated us like VIP's. The food was great, but save room for dessert. The coconut cream cake was awesome and the pizzelle dessert should not be missed. Thanks Giovanna and Kitchen Consigleier."

  • "Food was very good and at a reasonable price. The specials were a nice addition to the menu. Interesting (fun) decor."

  • "I was very disappointed when my son asked to swap sauce type on his pasta, He wanted to swap tomato sauce for a vodka sauce and was promptly to no by our waiter. I had a party of ten and it was the only request our party had made the entire night.."
    Dined on 3/13/2014
  • "For the price, we expected really outstanding food. My wife's chicken parm was rather tough and served "swimming" in a thick gravy that overflowed down the side of the plate. My pasta dish with shrimp, scallops and crab was good, but not exceptional. Our server spoke very fast and really seemed disinterested in what he was doing. The decor was terrific; we enjoyed viewing the portraits and watching bits of the gangster movies. However, that was not enough the salvage the evening."

  • "Although our waiter was very good and the service over all was great, our table, my seat, was in the way of the wait staff. every time a person needed to get through, I was, my chair was bumped. This is after we moved the table in as far as possible in order to make more room for others passing behind me. We made a reservation earlier that week and this is the ( worst ) seat in the house we were given...Most likely we won't return."

  • "Restaurant is overcrowded and loud. Waiters practice rehearsed, tired lines and dress in a cheesy outfit in keeping with the faux family friendly Maffia vibe they blatantly ram down your throat. Food was above average but we've had better Italian meals across the street in all of the other Collingswood options. Overall service was rushed right up to the end when the waiter handed us the check and simultaneously asked us to leave because "they have to turn over the table". No time to relax or digest. Of note, had we ordered dessert we would have stayed for at least another 20 minutes. Try any of the other options in town over this gimmicky, classless excuse of a restaurant."

  • "We were a group of 9 ladies and not the easiest to please all at one time!~!~!! Our server Giovanna was wonderful with her upbeat personality. She had great suggestions for ordering which we followed and all were very pleased with the results. Everything was delicious from the salads (Grilled romaine with seafood, chicken and roasted peppers) to the antipasti to the eggplant parm Of course the desserts were heavenly! We will definitely be back!"

  • "Service was outstanding and food was very good. Portions large, so get ready for to go bags. Only complaint was gravy or sauce(if your not from philly) on pasta was too sweet"

  • "Another wonderful meal in one of my favorite restaurants!!! Our waitress Patsy was attentive and gave us great recommendations as always. I had the crab cakes which were amazing and my boyfriend had seared scallops which was served on a crisp apple slice with parmesan risotto. Wow is all I can say.....this is not a large dish but it is definitely worth it!!!! My boyfriend and I split the meals and there was plenty of food between the 2 dishes. Then came dessert, which is a must whenever we go!!!! We split an Irish whisky cake which was out of this world. The cake was so moist and the filling and icing was so creamy with the perfect amount of sweetness. Can't wait to go back!!!!"

  • "Heaping portions of delicious food, served piping hot, friendly atmosphere, BYOB, great variety of entrees, This has become our favorite restaurant in Collingswood, a restaurant town. Owner/chef Angelo Lutz will visit your table at some point."

  • "Of all the choices of fish I had to go with the stuffed calamari over pasta and peas. My grandparents and parents made this dish often and it brought back nice memories. Compliments and thank you! Service was great!"
