Come enjoy old Italian-style dishes, known today as Italian comfort food, at The Kitchen Consigliere as executive chef Angelo Lutz preserves the heritage of real, authentic homestyle cooking. His spot is an informal BYOB Italian eatery with an emphasis on the peasant dishes found in traditional homestyle Italian cooking. Influenced by the dishes he ate as a youngster, Angelo's cooking style stems from teaching and recipes taught by his mother and grandmother. The atmosphere is informal and the food and menus change often, allowing The Kitchen Consigliere to be a cozy, quaint and not over-the-top eatery for the entire family. And good food isn't the only reason to eat at the café. The real adventure is meeting with the real kitchen consigliere; you will come for the food but stick around for the conversation.Continued

  • "Pasta sides and complimentary bread were average; however, the main dishes (veal saltimbocca & chicken marsala) were delicious. The stuffed fig appetizer special was unbelievably good. It is a must try. If you have a sweet tooth and have room for dessert, the brookie served with their homemade gelato is a perfect end to the meal. Service throughout the entire meal was incredible. The server was very personable, attentive, and knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend this restaurant."

  • "I had been here once in the old location and was not impressed. After it moved, I heard raves from friends so decided to go back. It was a great dinner, waiter was attentive and food was exactly how I ordered it (well done chicken piccata with extra sauce). We went back, bringing some family members. This time got a stuffy, inattentive waiter who did not get our special foods right (dressing on the side for salad, veggies instead of pasta for side dish, chicken well done). Food was good, desserts very good (pizzelles are very anisette-y tasting and cannoli filling was very good-gelato was also very good). But the 2nd visit wasn't as good as the first. Our bill, with tip, was $95.00 per couple, which I thought was high for a BYOB."

Had the Bolognese for my entree and it was some of the best bolognese that I have ever had. My husband had the Sunday gravy and said the brasciollo was outstanding. Highly recommend."

We sat at a comfortable table with great service and food, we watched people waiting on the street for their table at Il Fiori across the street; while we had enjoyed our meal there a week ago, we liked the food, the atmosphere and the service better at the KC. Excellent value in a comfortable and welcoming space."

Gnocchi Consigliere was my choice - YUM! Whatever you decide to try, get an extra order of meatballs. They were SO GOOD! I am very particular about meatballs, growing up in an Italian-South Philly family! One in our party has not-your-typical food allergies & the staff couldn't be more accommodating. She was so excited when we left that she was able to have an "entree & a dessert!" Speaking of the staff, they are charismatic, attentive and friendly! P.S. -- Don't forget dessert! Don Corleone may have had Genco, but we've got the Kitchen Consigliere!"

  • "I had been here years ago, when it was at its old location, and it was just so-so. I heard several friends remark on how great the food was at the new location, that I had to try tit. The Chicken Piccante was perfect: nice and lemony with a lot of capers, just the way I like it. Fried calamari was tender, with no legs, but could have been fried a little crispepr. The chicken parmigiana was a generous portion and, I was told, delicious. The rigatoni was also great, per my other friend. The gravy (sauce) is chunkier than I prefer, but still good. Desserts are homemade off premises-We had the cho cake, mango sorbet and giant serving of tiramisu. All were scrumptious. Bill was $75 /couple, incl 20% tip. Would definitley recommend!!!"

  • "I took my wife to this restaurant for her birthday. The food was great. The atmosphere: like an old time gangster movie with waiters dressed as gangsters. My wife had a veal chop that she said was really good. I had a dish called "Sunday Gravy"designed to reimagine the days when we were young and ate Sunday dinner at Grandma's. It did. The dish was pasta with a bolognese sauce with a piece of sausage, a meatball, a broceole, and spare rib. The gravy (yeah that's what we call it, not sauce) was the best I've ever had in a restaurant. It really did taste like my grandma's, mom's and mother in laws. My only complaint was that my wife doesn't like short macaroni so she wanted to substitute spaghetti or similar long cut and was told "no"."

Had the chicken special with fontina cheese and spinach can't remember name but it should be on the menu. Outstanding. Our server, Harry, was fun, knowledgeable of the food and specials. the specials, sounded so hard to decide. we had a few appetizers, which were all so delicious, especially the meatballs. Some of the dishes we ordered were the eggplant parm, it was more like a eggplant lasagna, was so good!! The Tilapia Oscar, with crab and asparagus, was very nicely done with capers and a light wine sauce. The Sunday dinner was a large bowl of different meats in gravy. All very generous portions! We will be back! "

  • "This is the 2nd time we have eaten here and the food is still great! We started with the special appetizers - Artichoke hearts and Mozzarella Pepperanati, both were mouth watering. The salad was fresh and crisp with just the right amount of dressing. For dinner I had the asparagus gnocchi - to die for. My man had the salmon, he was more than pleased with the taste. Desert was chocolate cake with a lit candle, it was my birthday. A food runner and my man started singing Happy Birthday and then the other tables sung too. I felt special. Harry was our server, what a efficient server, but more than that what a funny man. He made our night even more perfect. We will definitely be going back and asking for Harry. "

For me, simplicity is the rule - try the perfectly seasoned calamari for starters followed by the Sunday Gravy (served everyday!). Beyond the great food, the staff is superb going above & beyond to meet all requests...finally, another bonus as the restaurant is a BYOB! Do yourself a favor and just GO to Kitchen Consigliere!"

  • "Spent last Saturday night at The Kitchen Consigliere with another couple and we had a wonderful time. Our server was Patsy and she was superb. She seemed to anticipate our every need and we felt very cared for. The food, as always, was outstanding. Cannot get better food anywhere. The menu is so varied and choices are abundant. Tony, my husband, was able to customize his meal. With the help of our server he was able to combine his two choices into one incredible dish. I had homemade ricotta gnocchi with crabmeat in a light wine sauce and it was yummy!! My favorite was the triple chocolate cake. So moist and delicious!! All told it was a wonderful evening spent with good friends and the most exception food you could ever hope to find. "

  • "We finally made a visit to the Kitchen Consigliere in Collingswood. We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary by visiting Angelo and his very attentive waitstaff. We tried the special gnocchi as an appetizer and were blown away, amazingly light and bathed in an awesome cream sauce. The Sunday Gravy was worthy of its reputation - outstanding. Our server was always close by and timed the courses perfectly. Since this is a BYOB we enjoyed our favorite bottle(s) of wine and left a little room for a cannoli and a piece of homemade cake. It may have been our first visit, but it certainly wasn't our last. "

We were looking forward to the pizza in their new brick oven and we were disappointed to learn that the oven stresses the building with too much heat and there will be no brick oven pizza. Would have been a great addition. Still love the food, atmosphere and the attentive, smiling servers and we will continue to be regulars."

  • "It wasn't that crowded and the hostess tried to sit us in the back in the corner - we asked to have our seat changed which she did...the plates are smaller and so are the portions. I got the veal marsala - three small pieces of very thin veal smothered in gravy...Honestly I felt like I was at Olive Garden...The service was Excellent!"
