The King's KitchenA welcome refuge in a stormWe made a reservation for 5PM when dinner started and had the food at our table at 5:13! The chicken is excellent. Biscuits are terrific. Mixed fruit and shortbread were outstanding. We had a sheltered view of one of the heaviest downpours this year in most pleasant surroundings with nice background music to boot. I am a salt and pepper type girl but the old was seasoned to perfection that I didn't even need to add any salt or pepper. I had the fried chicken, Mac and cheese, greens and cabbage with cornbread. We both had the fried flounder and several sides. Everything was cooked beautifully. Our server, Annie, couldn't have been more attentive or friendly. We enjoyed hearing the kitchen staff announcing when meals were ready to be served. It made for a cheerful ambience. The Southern theme to the dinner menu was outstanding with shrimp and grits , fried chicken and home cooked steamed corn, green beans and a mac -n-cheese to rival my grandmothers. And, to know that the owners' mission to aid those facing personal challenges with work experience and job skills to succeed on their own, makes this restaurant a definite repeat visit! We ordered the sangria which was delicious as well as the fried oysters which were also tasty. We then got the flounder and fried chicken. Portions were good and we enjoyed each thing we ate. We also got dessert and went all out! When all was said and done, we had a fabulous meal for a more than reasonable price that all goes to support a great cause. Our reservation was 6:30 and we made it to the 8 o'clock show with plenty of time to spare. We were given a small private room which was cozy and very convenient so the moms in our group didn't worry too much about their kids disturbing others.

Upon getting our food, I was very impressed with the quality of everything (and I am a big foodie considering I was married to an executive chef for over a decade). The pan fried chicken and flounder were amazing -- both only lightly fried so not heavy at all.
