A word from The Jacobson
"If Picasso or Rembrandt wanted to grab a bit in KC, the food and atmosphere at The Jacobson would make them feel like they were back in front of an easel." -Alex Kluesner KC Magazine

Like paint to a blank canvas, The Jacobson, or "The J" for regulars, transformed a 4,000-square foot warehouse into a modern restaurant and bar in the heart of the Crossroads Arts District. Staying true to the surrounding culture, its walls are bedecked with paintings from local artist and its one-of-a-kind heated patio and full service bar is anchored by a two story sculpture by KC's own Stretch.

A glance at The Jacobson's variety of contemporary American cuisine yields a collection for meat lovers, vegetarians and vegans. Much like an artist who draws inspiration from his or her own environment, diners in search of muse are encouraged to mix and match tastes when ordering appetizer & entrees from the Mingle & Center Stage sections of the menu.

Diner Reviews
  • "This was our first time at the Jacobson, and we were very pleased. The quality of the food and drink was excellent. I highly recommend the sesame mushrooms. They were very crispy and not greasy; could have used more sesame seeds . The hand-crafted cocktails were delicious and interesting, and had a decent amount of alcohol in them. Scallops were large, and prepared to perfection. Good service too. Only real complaint is that it is difficult to find; front door is not really on Central."

  • "My daughter and I went to dinner last night at The Jacobson. John, our server, was knowledgeable and in a word GREAT! The food was very good. Everything was fresh and home made. The drinks were notable. We will definitely be back. Thank you for a great night out."

  • "The restaurant was very good, but a little overpriced. Atmosphere was awesome and the outdoor patio was great. The bar seemed very well stocked. Our problem was the service, we waited forever in between our server coming back to check on us and our entres took a long while to come out. He blamed a short staffed kitchen but I am not sure."

  • "Went here for the first time the other night. We had the Seafood Medley and it was fabulous! That night it was salmon, scallops, mussels and shrimp in a lobster broth. We ordered mussels for an appetizer too. We also ordered a trio of spreads that came with 2 kinds of bread. The hummus and the blue cheese dips were our favorites. The roasted cauliflower one was so-so. For dessert we shared the pineapple upside down cake, which is not easy to find on many menus. It was very tasty. The other big plus was the music. It was a great mix of "dinner music", not so loud that you had to yell at your dining companions to be heard. It was very pleasant. We will definitely be back. Oh, the parking is a challenge. That's the only negative."

  • "We went to Jacobson on a Friday nite, hoping to sit outside but it was way too hot. Tried some of their new house cocktails, the summer of 75 was delish... We had lots of really good food and lots of laughs. Great place to go for a relaxed dinner with friends."

  • "Dined here for the first time last week! Great restaurant. Be sure and ask fo Michael A as he was an outstanding waiter. Steered us to a great bottle of wine on half price nite. Then we shared the most wonderful meatballs as an appetizer. Then all he suggested for dinner one had mussels, one had the shrimp, and one had the steak. All winners! Bananas Foster for dessert and the evening was a lovely nite out with friends. We will defiantly return"

  • "we first went to The Jacobson with a large group and everyone seemed to enjoy it. We went again, taking a friend with us. The parking is a challenge, the food was just OK and the service was very slow. At the table the order included 2 hamburgers (one was really under-done & neither were initially prepared correctly) and the summer pasta which was served lukewarm. The homemade potato chips had changed since the last time and were not nearly as tasty. Not sure if the seasoning changed or what. Also the coffee was just warm, not hot and steaming like a fresh cup of coffee should be. All 3 of us were disappointed and are fairly certain we won't be returning. Too many other great options in our city."

  • "The service can be hit or miss, especially at dinner. We went for lunch and the service was great. The craft/ artisan cocktails are great. The trio spread for an appetizer is really good."

  • "The Jacobson has something for anyone. Comfortable bar eating/drinking with TV or bartender entertainment? Check. High tables for casual or formal eating? Check. Discreet low table nook seating for romance or couple conversation? Check. Best patio drinking or dining in KC? Check. Private dining room for business, family or friends special event? Check. Varied and tasty menu? Check. Great service? Check. My "romfei" ("romantic female interest") and I needed a light, romantic evening and The Jacobson - and especially our terrific server, Randall, delivered it. Recommended entrees, appetizer, drinks and wine were perfect. And Randall kindly helped us maximize our GroupOn. The Jake gets 5 Stars from this appreciative patron."

  • "Food was just barely warm. Drinks were horrible. Server was overwhelmed even though the restaurant wasn't even busy. Owner didn't even say hello, or thanks for coming. Won't ever return."

  • "We were first time diners and we loved the whole experience. The food was delicious, our drinks were fabulous (pocket square - yum!), and the staff was so friendly and helpful. I had only one regret - that the baby cake was topped with bananas foster - not my favorite. We had the pineapple upside down cake (delish) instead, but I really wanted to try the baby cake - just with some other sort of topping - peach perhaps???? We will be back - even without a Groupon!"

  • "live in the neighborhood and come here quite a bit. solid servers. good cocktails and beers on tap. Menu is consistent but has nice changes every once in a while. The Jacobson Burger is amazing, one of the best burgers in KC. We've had a few misses here over a long period of visits (cocktail with jalapeno was undrinkable (i like hot and can eat peppers!), pork shoulder had a fat line in it and was all fat, no meat are a few that come to mind). When we've had issues, the manager has come over promptly and offered to comp the dish. The manager here is outstanding."

  • "This is a great place for patio dining or dining inside among modern decor. The service was outstanding. The server was very knowledgable about food dishes as well as all cocktails. We had a fantastic meal and a lovely evening out."

  • "Our waiter's enthusiasm for the diverse menu choices added to our enjoyment of recent dinner at The Jacobson. Some Crossroads restaurants get by on "being cool", but this one also delivers on delectable cuisine and drinks."

  • "We arrived 30 minutes prior to our reservation on a slow Thursday and enjoyed a drink on the beautiful patio in spite of our grumpy, non-attentive server. The hostess never came to take us inside for dinner as she promised. We returned to the hostess stand and were greeted and seated by the manager/owner who said that our server would take great care of us. Our second server offered the same poor service, as if we were an intrusion. We are friendly people and made no special requests. We ordered the salmon crostini, pork shoulder confit, scallops, salad, dessert. They were all good, but there are so many excellent restaurants in the area where we've received better service that we have no interest in returning to The Jacobson. "

  • "I had a reservation for 9pm as the restaurant is open until 10pm. I showed up with my date and the door was locked. I called and they said they decided to close early because it was slow. They didn't call me and the manager stated he didn't check to see if there was a reservation and didn't apologize. Ruined the night for me and my date."

  • "I had kind of accidentally stumbled upon The Jacobson, but I am VERY glad I did. This restaurant was fantastic; Frank Sinatra/Michael Bublé-esque music playing the whole time...bartenders in suit vests...great art and lighting. I was a big fan of this place. They have their own unique cocktails too (I had the Crossroads Fizz--great for summer) and the food was great! For dessert, I'd recommend the Swedish pancake with bananas foster...to die for."

  • "This was my second time at The Jacobson, and was delighted just as much as my first visit. Stuffed Meatballs, outstanding. The Jacobson burger, ohhhh mmmmyyyy goooosh. Pineapple Upside Down Cake w/ Banana Ice Cream, delicious. I will be visiting again. And again. And again."

  • "We love the atmosphere. The server did an excellent job of suggestions and accomadating our requests. The special of the evening, a seafood medley was excellent. Scallops, mussels, shrimp and salmon in a flavorful broth was delicious! We shared the house dessert which was a pancake with a berry topping and of course a side of ice cream. The meal was excellent and we enjoyed ourselves. Would recommend it to friends and will return."

  • "I've been to the Jacobson several times. Last year I went for my birthday and they were out of them. I went again this year and was disappointed to pay $30 for about what you used to get in their appetizer size. Should have stuck with the appetizer menu or the burger!"

  • "The Jacobson was an awesome find for us. We especially enjoyed the Jacobson Burger and cocktails. A little pricey for an average night but great for special occasions. We will return for special occasions and would love to frequent this spot during mingle hour for drinks."

  • "We've been to the Jacobson 2 times. The first, our server was outstanding, personable, and welcoming. This time was the complete and total opposite - slow, boring, vacant, and just doing his job. We felt like more of an inconvenience than a customer there to enjoy the evening. We started with the trio of spreads which was very good (bonus points for server - brought extra crisps when noticed we were running low). Our meals were okay. The spaghetti and meatballs was basic and fairly bland and one note while the Jacobson burger was terribly heavy, overdone, and really nothing special as I wanted it to be. There were other items on the menu we'd like to try, so we'll return; hopefully with better service & more flavorful food."

  • "We are always pleased with the food, the service & the cocktails at The Jacobson. The manager, Tom, came around to our table, and we commiserated about the lack of late night kitchen-open spots. We usually do a pre-theatre dinner, and post-theatre cocktails & dessert. It's difficult to find many spots open for late night eats."

  • "The drinks are great! I tried the recommended Crossroads fizz and enjoyed it but the cocktail Leap of Faith had me sold with the delicious blend of rye whiskey, wine and lavender syrup! The mussels appetizer was a great start. One critique I have would be to inform the customer if there are changes on the menu not listed. I ordered the Seafood medley expecting one thing and another came out. They were so generous to offer me a different dish that I would prefer and let me tell you WOW! It was a shrimp dish that blew me away! We topped the night off with a butterscotch pudding just oozing with decadence. I appreciate the accommodations and I can't wait to come back again! "

  • "My wife and I dined at the Jacobson and participated in the "Dine out for life" event. Our server, Lesley(?), explained the menu options to us and we chose the four course with wine pairings. I started with the shrimp appetizer(just the right amount of spice) while Da Missus enjoyed the crispy mushrooms. As a second course I had the Champagne gazpacho. BEST!! we both had the Duroc pork with round of Polenta as our main course. It was a large portion which had a real pork taste rather than the bland taste one often gets. Delicious!! Dessert was the butterscotch pudding with sea salt. WOW!! We had a great time made fantastic by the service and graciousness of the staff!! Thank you. "

  • "I've been to the Jacobson several times for lunch. They consistently have good food and great service. The patio is perfect for a nice day. It's far enough off the street so it's not too loud."
    Dined on 5/7/2014
  • "The sewer drains are located throughout the patio which makes it hard to enjoy a nice meal with the sewer smell. The mingle meatballs and shrimp were good but the wine list is very limited."

  • "The first time my husband and I went to The Jacobson we were seated but not acknowledged by any of the staff for more than 20 minutes before we decided to leave. We were out for my husband's birthday dinner and it wasn't off to a great start. My husband said something to the hostess on our way out that night, and we were immediately apologized to, asked to stay, seated in a different section, and comped an appetizer for our troubles. The service we received following was superb and all of our food was cooked perfectly and delicious. The end of our first experience granted a second visit, so a month later we went with our father-in-law, and once again, our food was prepared perfectly and delicious. The serious was great, too! We'll be back!"

  • "I was so pleased with our experience at The Jacobson. The vibe of the restaurant was ideal, not too loud, not too quiet. It had very good energy. The food was amazing, seriously amazing. Our server, John, was fantastic! He had several great recommendations most of which we followed and were not disappointed. I highly recommend this restaurant, and I will definitely be back."
    Dined on 4/26/2014
  • "First off, you have to ask for John...he will take care of you with a great sense of humor, a great grasp of the menu, and a Sommelier's knowledge when it comes to wines. For you Scotch and Bourbon snobs, you will not be disappointed. I had a Pappy Van Winkle and a Bunnahabhain 18. The Cocktail menu is really fun, lots of interesting combinations. Try the CROSSROADS FIZZ or LEAP OF FAITH...a couple of non-traditional uses for Gin and Rye, respectively. The food, oh the food! It's not a huge menu, but it was hard to choose (having trouble? Just ask John he won't steer you wrong). BAKED JUMBO CRAB & SHRIMP DIP to start, wonderful. The JACOBSON SPICE-RUBBED DUROC PORK was unique with an excellent flavor. DUTCH BABY CAKE!"
