A word from The Jacobson
"If Picasso or Rembrandt wanted to grab a bit in KC, the food and atmosphere at The Jacobson would make them feel like they were back in front of an easel." -Alex Kluesner KC Magazine

Like paint to a blank canvas, The Jacobson, or "The J" for regulars, transformed a 4,000-square foot warehouse into a modern restaurant and bar in the heart of the Crossroads Arts District. Staying true to the surrounding culture, its walls are bedecked with paintings from local artist and its one-of-a-kind heated patio and full service bar is anchored by a two story sculpture by KC's own Stretch.

A glance at The Jacobson's variety of contemporary American cuisine yields a collection for meat lovers, vegetarians and vegans. Much like an artist who draws inspiration from his or her own environment, diners in search of muse are encouraged to mix and match tastes when ordering appetizer & entrees from the Mingle & Center Stage sections of the menu.

  • "I will most certainly return to this place again cocktails were amazing"

  • "I'm a fan of The Jacobson. I've been here a few times and have been completely surprised and satisfied with each dish I've tried. The Jacobson burger is probably my favorite burger in the entire city, it's amazing. The crafted cocktails are also appreciated, as it's nice to be pushed outside your comfort zone to find something new you might like. With all that said, the service is a little spotty. The first time I came it was excellent, but the past 3 times I've been it's been on the disappointing side. Maybe it has to do with going on a busy weekend, maybe during the week it's perfect, I don't know. I find that to be the only downside to this fantastic place."

  • "Our server was fabulous. We slipped in under the wire for happy hour and still managed to eat the most delicious steaks in our memory. Weren't offered a steak knife. Didn't need one. Management checked on us. We were seated in a little alcove with just two other tables so conversation was easy. Would love to enjoy the patio on a cooler evening. Top notch new find for us. We'll be back!"

  • "I haven't been to the Jacobson since last summer where my experience was wonderful. This visit not so much. I recently dined at Rye and spent the same amount of money and walked away saying wow that was amazing and worth every penny. I felt like I was welcomed, service and food outstanding. Cannot say the same for the Jacobson. Didn't feel welcomed, food was average. What was most aggravating is when you drop $250 on a meal and they have the audacity to charge you $2.00 for a tiny piece of bread that was ordered because we ran out on our $14 crab dip! It's the little things that take a dining experience for mediocre to outstanding. I walked away feeling like the Jacobson doesn't care about giving you an outstanding experience for the price!"

  • "Second time in as many weeks that I have been in for lunch with friends and really enjoyed both the food and the excellent service. What stood out both time was that The Jacobson offers excellent food choices for those of us who are seeking a healthy diet and also enjoy eating out. Portions were moderate but more than adequate. Love the tabouli salad with cauliflower. Grilled salmon sandwich was great and our server found some fruit to substitute for the higher calorie & carb sides. Bravo!"

  • "We have been to The Jacobson many times - more than 10. It was by far our worst experience. You were out of the first 3 wines we selected. My wife was given the wrong entre and our service was quite poor. It was not busy compared to previous visits, so we were surprised and disappointed in our experience. We will think long and hard before coming back. This is sad for us because until this visit we had always had a wonderful time at the restaurant."

  • "My wife and I decided to try the Jacobson for her birthday dinner. In short our experience was underwhelming. The cocktails were excellent-the best part of the entire meal-but it went downhill from there. Our appetizer (seafood dip) was good and gave us reason to expect good things for our entrée. I had the steak and she had the seafood medley. We were not impressed with either of our main courses, given the price. We found them both lacking in flavor and were not cooked to the proper doneness. Desert was another step down. We tried the baby cake desert option. We had to send it back as it tasted mainly like chewy, overcooked eggs. We will be going back at some point to try more cocktails, but for dining we are one and done."

  • "Food was excellent service was excellent. Only negative was noise level. I think outside would be awesome"
    Dined on 8/15/2014
  • "The food was excellent. Shrimp appetizer is great - although I wish it came with two polenta cakes instead of just one. It's got enough of a spice kick that the extra polenta would help calm. Scallops were amazing and when I stole a bite of steak, I was sorry, I didn't have more!"

  • "Made reservations because of a Groupon and we are thrilled we did! The service was top notch, the food was exceptional with perfect sized portions and reasonable prices. We will definitely be back!"

  • "We had a Groupon for lunch at the Jacobson and are so glad we tried it out! The food was delicious (it was difficult to choose something because everything on the menu sounded so good!) and the service was perfect. The restaurant has a very hip and cool vibe, and it was quiet for the lunch hour, although many people were enjoying the outdoor seating. We are excited to go back to try their happy hour! We would definitely recommend for a special meal or fun date!"

  • "We sat on the patio and it was our first time here. Food was tasty, nicely served, good presentation. Menu is just the right size with lots of choices. A few specials each day. We had steak sandwich, salmon and carrot soup. Chips and pasta for side dishes. It all was good and we will be back. Service nice and pleasant. Casual, but attentive."

  • "This was my second time at the Jacobson. The first was when it had just opened and there was much greater attention paid to service and food. This time the food was average and the service was poor. I was completely unimpressed and don't plan to return. One exception: the Hemingway cocktail was fantastic! If friends asked for a recommendation, the Jacobson would not be on the list...."

  • "The salmon dish was really one of the best I have had...the rosemary flavor was really awesome! My girlfriend has the quinoa/kale dish with some added chicken. Nothing wrong with Whole Foods, but it was as if she was eating a few odds and ends picked up at the Whole Foods lunch bar. Not flavorful or imaginative at all. She was disappointed that she didn't order the salmon. They were out of the scallops that night. Atmosphere is upbeat and cool along with the location. A local place...I hope they succeed!"

  • "I made a reservation for an special dinner and was a little disappointed when they sat us at a high top near the bar. I asked to change tables but they were unable to re seat us, which was disappointing, but ok. After that, though, the waiter was pretty awful. He took my partners drink order and brought it before I had decided on a cocktail, and when I did order it sat at the bar prepared for 10 minutes. He came to take our dinner orders and the cocktail was still sitting at the bar. He had forgotten that I ordered. Then he took my partners dinner order before I was ready. We waited another 10 minutes and he never came back. Another restaurant staff came to ask how everything was and straightened it out, but what a hassle."

  • "We had a Groupon for the Jacobson and we will definitely go back even without one. The stuffed meatballs, KC Strip, and Chicken Picatta were outstanding. The Groupon covered two entrees, desssert and two cocktails, and to my great surprise we were encouraged to order the most expensive items on the menu in those categories. That never happens! The cocktails were excellent as well, and very creative. Good music, fun crowd, and excellent service. Can't wait to go back."

  • "I was not overly impressed. The food prices were high compared to the quality of the food and service was sub par. However, their cocktails were fantastic. I'll probably go back for happy hour sometime to give it another shot."

  • "Impeccable service, knowledgeable and very hospitable server and bartender. The manager introduced himself and was genuinely interested in our experience. The food...simply delicious! I've already recommended it to others."

  • "I was very pleased with my visit to The Jacobson last Friday evening. We went with another couple and had a really relaxing great dinner. We never felt rushed. Our waiter Randall was not only well informed but he had a nice sense of humor and answered all our questions concerning our dining choices. The drink selection was unusual but very good. I plan to visit this restaurant again. Since I do not live close to the restaurant I think that says it all. I enjoyed it enough to travel again for another great meal."

  • "We were there on a Tuesday night. We were placed at a table by the bar, where we were told that the busy bartender would also be our waiter. I thought this was odd since we did have a reservation and were not walk-in diners. The bartender was very nice, and did his best, but he was being pulled in two directions. We had to grab another waitress to ask to order dessert (she was rather unfriendly), and we waited a long time for our checks. The food was very good, we loved the meatball appetizer; the seafood medley and the chicken piccata were also very good."

  • "Two couples met for dinner and we had drinks at the bar before being seated. The bartenders were great and the drink selection was extensive with whimsical names like Pocket Square and Mark Twain. The hostess that seated us was friendly and accommodating to our request for a certain table. From there, it went down hill. Service was slow and the food was just ok. The appetizer's were good, but main course and salads not so much. The wine list was very limited. If you want a place to go for good drinks and appetizer's with a vibrant bar scene, head to The Jacobson and pull up a bar stool. Just stay away from the servers and tables."

  • "What an evening at the Jacobson. The service was fantastic. We were given prime seating at an indoor/outdoor table with views of the surrounding neighborhood. Food was superb and even the other patrons were so nice and gracious."

  • "This suburban couple loved feeling cool, hip, and modern in this fun venue! Wonderful ambiance and food, and easy parking! Highly recommend!"

  • "Had a terrific lunch. Started off with oysters. Presentation was well done and the oysters were very good. Tried the signature Jacobson burger and was not disappointed. Lots of flavor and cooked to spec. Partner had gumbo and muffaletta. Both were well executed. Extremely excellent server (Randall). Highly knowledgeable about menu items and a foodie himself. Very much recommend The Jacobson."

  • "So, anyone who has ever grilled an expensive cut of steak knows two things. First, medium rare is not brown in the middle. It is pink. Second, you don't serve a KC Strip sliced as part of your presentation. It loses the juices and the temp. Don't get me wrong, I love the J and will continue to go there. This is just one of those repeated, annoying issues that never seems to be corrected."

  • "Great place - new so some new servers that weren't the best but giving them the benefit of the doubt. My husband's KC Strip was tough and my pasta was soupy. Also, the table (high top) was not very comfortable or easy to get in & out of. Would have loved to sit on the patio but it was too hot - looks like a great place to sit! The crab & shrimp dip for an appetizer was awesome and my salmon was perfect. Decent wine list - would have like more options for by the glass. Overall would recommend & will try it again!"

  • "Great service with detailed attention from the waitress and the manager. Nice, unique cocktail list. Bacon Rebellion was a surprise find. Willing to make substitutions on sides. Perfectly cooked steak. Dutch Baby with fresh cooked peaches. YUM."

  • "This was m second time here and both have been excellent. The drink with bourbon and bacon was very novel. Oysters and the three spreads with flat breads were delicious. The salmon and the pork entries were both excellent. Tge salted butterscotch pudding is a great way to finish off."

  • "This was our first time at the Jacobson, and we were very pleased. The quality of the food and drink was excellent. I highly recommend the sesame mushrooms. They were very crispy and not greasy; could have used more sesame seeds . The hand-crafted cocktails were delicious and interesting, and had a decent amount of alcohol in them. Scallops were large, and prepared to perfection. Good service too. Only real complaint is that it is difficult to find; front door is not really on Central."

  • "My daughter and I went to dinner last night at The Jacobson. John, our server, was knowledgeable and in a word GREAT! The food was very good. Everything was fresh and home made. The drinks were notable. We will definitely be back. Thank you for a great night out."

  • "The restaurant was very good, but a little overpriced. Atmosphere was awesome and the outdoor patio was great. The bar seemed very well stocked. Our problem was the service, we waited forever in between our server coming back to check on us and our entres took a long while to come out. He blamed a short staffed kitchen but I am not sure."

  • "Went here for the first time the other night. We had the Seafood Medley and it was fabulous! That night it was salmon, scallops, mussels and shrimp in a lobster broth. We ordered mussels for an appetizer too. We also ordered a trio of spreads that came with 2 kinds of bread. The hummus and the blue cheese dips were our favorites. The roasted cauliflower one was so-so. For dessert we shared the pineapple upside down cake, which is not easy to find on many menus. It was very tasty. The other big plus was the music. It was a great mix of "dinner music", not so loud that you had to yell at your dining companions to be heard. It was very pleasant. We will definitely be back. Oh, the parking is a challenge. That's the only negative."

  • "We went to Jacobson on a Friday nite, hoping to sit outside but it was way too hot. Tried some of their new house cocktails, the summer of 75 was delish... We had lots of really good food and lots of laughs. Great place to go for a relaxed dinner with friends."
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "we first went to The Jacobson with a large group and everyone seemed to enjoy it. We went again, taking a friend with us. The parking is a challenge, the food was just OK and the service was very slow. At the table the order included 2 hamburgers (one was really under-done & neither were initially prepared correctly) and the summer pasta which was served lukewarm. The homemade potato chips had changed since the last time and were not nearly as tasty. Not sure if the seasoning changed or what. Also the coffee was just warm, not hot and steaming like a fresh cup of coffee should be. All 3 of us were disappointed and are fairly certain we won't be returning. Too many other great options in our city."

  • "Dined here for the first time last week! Great restaurant. Be sure and ask fo Michael A as he was an outstanding waiter. Steered us to a great bottle of wine on half price nite. Then we shared the most wonderful meatballs as an appetizer. Then all he suggested for dinner one had mussels, one had the shrimp, and one had the steak. All winners! Bananas Foster for dessert and the evening was a lovely nite out with friends. We will defiantly return"

  • "The Jacobson has something for anyone. Comfortable bar eating/drinking with TV or bartender entertainment? Check. High tables for casual or formal eating? Check. Discreet low table nook seating for romance or couple conversation? Check. Best patio drinking or dining in KC? Check. Private dining room for business, family or friends special event? Check. Varied and tasty menu? Check. Great service? Check. My "romfei" ("romantic female interest") and I needed a light, romantic evening and The Jacobson - and especially our terrific server, Randall, delivered it. Recommended entrees, appetizer, drinks and wine were perfect. And Randall kindly helped us maximize our GroupOn. The Jake gets 5 Stars from this appreciative patron."
