A word from The Jacobson
"If Picasso or Rembrandt wanted to grab a bit in KC, the food and atmosphere at The Jacobson would make them feel like they were back in front of an easel." -Alex Kluesner KC Magazine

Like paint to a blank canvas, The Jacobson, or "The J" for regulars, transformed a 4,000-square foot warehouse into a modern restaurant and bar in the heart of the Crossroads Arts District. Staying true to the surrounding culture, its walls are bedecked with paintings from local artist and its one-of-a-kind heated patio and full service bar is anchored by a two story sculpture by KC's own Stretch.

A glance at The Jacobson's variety of contemporary American cuisine yields a collection for meat lovers, vegetarians and vegans. Much like an artist who draws inspiration from his or her own environment, diners in search of muse are encouraged to mix and match tastes when ordering appetizer & entrees from the Mingle & Center Stage sections of the menu.

The atmosphere is nice and I love the location. The food was so-so, but it was really our waiter who ruined the evening for us. We felt judged the whole night and he seemed put-out to have to worry about our table. All-in-all, I personally won't go back to the Jacobson, but I definitely think it's a place that people should try for themselves.

The food was good, I had their signature burger and though slightly over cooked it was very good. Fries were good - hot and crispy. Nothing special about the place - a $14 burger is pricey but worth a one time try. I was not impressed with the parking situation, it's basically a decent restaurant in an alley with limited parking around it. Can't see this every being a destination I'd want to frequent - but no complaints about the food or service.

First time visit to restaurant. Interesting menu with several great appetizer options. We shared crab and shrimp dip...good but crackers with it were super good! My husband had a Moroccan seasoned pork shoulder that was flavorful and tender. I had Scottish salmon with warm garbanzo bean salad. Delicious...I ate every bite. Service was good , very friendly and attentive at times but distant other times (unfortunately initial contact) but didn't detract from evening. Ambiance is very nice and cozy. Outdoor area looks great but too cold when we were there so we'd go back on a nice day to try it.

My daughter and I made reservations at the Jacobson before a show at the Music Hall. The waiter made sure our food was out in time for us to enjoy an appetizer and dinner with out feeling rushed to finish. The food was wonderful. Would definitely recommend the Shrimp appetizer. The scallops were perfect and a great lighter meal before the show. We want to go back and enjoy more time at the Jacobson

We had fantastic service, some of the best I have had in a while! I would definitely come back and request Mike's section, as he was great! The meal was great. I would have given it 5 stars, but my swordfish was very undercooked when it first came out. Otherwise, our shrimp appetizer, my husband's steak, and the flourless chocolate cake were delicious! My other complaint was the temperature of the place. It was very cold. I told our server, who adjusted it, and it was better for a while then very cold again. I wish there was a 3.5 star option. This was not a 4 overall, but not really a 3 either. Properly cooked seafood and not a vent above the table blowing cold air on us would have fixed it to a 5.

Steak was perfectly cooked. Brussel sprouts a little too charred. Signature cocktails flavorful and unique. Slow to greet/seat us but table service good - Randall was friendly and engaging. There was a limit on the entree, cocktail, and dessert value which I do not recall seeing on the Groupon and which cost extra despite being below the limit on some of the other items. Had a party of 4. Desserts very good.

I've never taken the time to write a review because I assume most people who do and complain, are picky and too difficult to please. This was a disappointing experience. The food was good. Just good. Not great. The ambience was quaint, but what ruined this for me was the staff. I feel like the stigma of using a groupon ruined this right off the bat. Everyone around us was having issues, mainly due to poor and/or lack of service. The staff was busy talking about how annoyed they were by customers complaints...and they weren't even trying to be hushed about it. I wanted to turn around at one point and shout "she can probably hear you"! Truly disappointed because this place has great potential.

We wanted so much, to like this place! We were impressed by the decor and ambiance. Most of the food we ordered was very good, but the steak was underdone. Sent it back and it was still raw in the middle. Most diners will overlook a lot of "errors" if the servers are friendly and accommodating. This is the Jacobson's true shortcoming. When servers make you feel like you are an imposition by being there and asking for for things that you are paying for, it doesn't make you want to go back. First impressions are SO important, so my message to management is please hire and train your staff to be friendly, smile, and make your guests feel welcome! Restaurant competition in Kansas City is stiff, so you need to make more of an effort!

This was the third time I have been to the Jacobson and they have yet to disappoint. I love the Crossroad Fizz drink - YUM! I would say that the scallops I ordered, although great, the blackberry flavor was not in the sauce tonight. My other dining partners loved their dishes and I for one can't wait to return.

John was our water and was SO knowledgeable and quite entertaining. The cocktails were very "fun" and the Burger truly is the best in KC. Pineapple upside down cake was excellent...

Love the food and service is always good, but.. the noise level is very loud, even when the restaurant is not full. Lots of hard surfaces. I requested a "cozy"table - even then, it was noisy. Probably a great place for a younger crowd. Parking is always a challenge. Great menu and everything is always superb.

We treated ourselves to dinner after spending hours at KC's Irish Fest, and we were rewarded with tasty cocktails and delicious entrees - the seafood special was OUT OF THIS WORLD! We were disappointed to find out that they were oud of the pineapple upside down cake - and a little more annoyed to learn that they had run out on the previous day and didn't make any new for the Saturday night guests.

Dined here for the first time on Saturday night. Kind of tricky finding the place and parking was not a simple task. Hostess seemed nice and was polite. However, the waitress was NOT. When asked about a child's menu, she said they don't have one . . . and walked away. No suggestions for what we could order for a 1-year-old, nothing just "no" and walked away. While perusing the menu, we figured out that we could order a salad and add a chicken breast for $4. Something simple the waitress could have suggested but instead the mother got upset and almost ruined the evening. Food was good but service was very poor. I don't recommend this place because the waitress almost ruined our evening.

Great dinner at The Jacobson. Nice night however we opted for inside dining. If you don't have a strong sense of smell, the patio is a great spot but we chose not to eat outside. Sulfur/rotten egg smell is pretty strong in drainage grates in their parking lot (city reality). Unfortunately you get waves of it based on the wind. With that said, hosts were very accommodating in relocating us. The waiter was great and we found every dish we ordered to be excellent. We will definitely return. As for dining al fresco, it's a great place but we'll have to sniff it out again if eating. To the restaurant's credit, the patio was packed so maybe others don't have this particular viewpoint or were just there for the cocktails. You be the judge.

I'm a fan of The Jacobson. I've been here a few times and have been completely surprised and satisfied with each dish I've tried. The Jacobson burger is probably my favorite burger in the entire city, it's amazing. The crafted cocktails are also appreciated, as it's nice to be pushed outside your comfort zone to find something new you might like. With all that said, the service is a little spotty. The first time I came it was excellent, but the past 3 times I've been it's been on the disappointing side. Maybe it has to do with going on a busy weekend, maybe during the week it's perfect, I don't know. I find that to be the only downside to this fantastic place.

I haven't been to the Jacobson since last summer where my experience was wonderful. This visit not so much. I recently dined at Rye and spent the same amount of money and walked away saying wow that was amazing and worth every penny. I felt like I was welcomed, service and food outstanding. Cannot say the same for the Jacobson. Didn't feel welcomed, food was average. What was most aggravating is when you drop $250 on a meal and they have the audacity to charge you $2.00 for a tiny piece of bread that was ordered because we ran out on our $14 crab dip! It's the little things that take a dining experience for mediocre to outstanding. I walked away feeling like the Jacobson doesn't care about giving you an outstanding experience for the price!

Second time in as many weeks that I have been in for lunch with friends and really enjoyed both the food and the excellent service. What stood out both time was that The Jacobson offers excellent food choices for those of us who are seeking a healthy diet and also enjoy eating out. Portions were moderate but more than adequate. Love the tabouli salad with cauliflower. Grilled salmon sandwich was great and our server found some fruit to substitute for the higher calorie & carb sides. Bravo!

We have been to The Jacobson many times - more than 10. It was by far our worst experience. You were out of the first 3 wines we selected. My wife was given the wrong entre and our service was quite poor. It was not busy compared to previous visits, so we were surprised and disappointed in our experience. We will think long and hard before coming back. This is sad for us because until this visit we had always had a wonderful time at the restaurant.

My wife and I decided to try the Jacobson for her birthday dinner. In short our experience was underwhelming. The cocktails were excellent-the best part of the entire meal-but it went downhill from there. Our appetizer (seafood dip) was good and gave us reason to expect good things for our entrée. I had the steak and she had the seafood medley. We were not impressed with either of our main courses, given the price. We found them both lacking in flavor and were not cooked to the proper doneness. Desert was another step down. We tried the baby cake desert option. We had to send it back as it tasted mainly like chewy, overcooked eggs. We will be going back at some point to try more cocktails, but for dining we are one and done.

The food was excellent. Shrimp appetizer is great - although I wish it came with two polenta cakes instead of just one. It's got enough of a spice kick that the extra polenta would help calm. Scallops were amazing and when I stole a bite of steak, I was sorry, I didn't have more!
