The food was stellar -- not really a single dish was lacking or unsatisfying in the five courses, and their take on dishes was creative and tasty. We were all very pleased with what a good meal it was. The only negatives were: a slightly higher noise level (making it a bit hard to hear over a large table); the service was a bit slow in tending to us in a couple of spots; and our two children didn't really have many choices on the menu. For Mother's Day we had three teens with us. We were a little concerned that they may not find something on the menu to enjoy!! WRONG! They loved everything and want to go back there soon!! The salmon, scallop and chicken dinners were excellent. Those having appetizers instead of the dinners had plenty to eat and everything was delicious, especially the one with the crispy egg! It was especially nice having a private room where we were not disturbed by other dinners. Having travelled a decent amount, my wife and I have enjoyed some great meals in New York, Chicago, New Orleans - some of the truly great restaurants in the country - and our meal at Ivy Inn has been our favorite.
I am not sure where to start or how to describe the food other than just saying it absolutely blew us away. We started our meal by splitting a salad and appetizer, which was the single best appetizer I've ever had. For dinner, my wife had scallops and I had beef - both of which were cooked to perfection.
But as much as we enjoyed the food, I think the service was even better!

My meal was outstanding (scallops) but my husband's meal was ok (pork chops). Our salads were good and desserts were great. The waitress said the menu changes everyday and I asked what stays on the menu all the time. She said the filet, the lamb and the salmon. The lamb dish was 4 lamb chops on some coucous accompanied with half gyro sandwich. Sounded unusual enough to give it a try even though typically I am not a gyro fan. Buddy let me tell ya it was off the hook. really really good. When we got there we were seated immediately and the waiter was very helpful in explaining the menu and giving us recommendations. We received our appetizers and salads in a decent amount of time but received our en-tree approximatively an hour after being seated. The waiter apologized and tended to us as needed, but explained that there was a large party who got their orders in before us which forced everyone else at the restaurant to have to wait.
I got the Spinach Ravioli and my wife got the Chicken with Country Ham, both were impeccable. Overall, great choice for romantic night and excellent food. We had a 6:30 reservation but my daughter was declining fast as we finished up the UVA tour after a full day at Montpelier plus the two hour drive from home.
